Free apps. - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

For everyone asking for free apps, you are all looking for "warez" which you won't find here. You will get betas but if its in the market you are expected to buy it. So instead of asking for free apps search Google for android warez. But please be considerate, someone spent time, energy and probably money developing these apps and deserves to get paid. There is a reason all the devs on this site have donate buttons...
PS: if devs don't make money what incentive is there to develop and release things for us?

XDA-devs on marketplace?

I'm not sure if this has been discussed already, i already did a quick google search and didn't find anything...
But i was just thinking, there are always great apps that i find honestly every week on XDA, mostly because they're just burried under pages, or maybe dont have the same wild popularity that ifart does. But does anyone else think it'd be a great idea if we could maybe somehow take donations from XDA users, and then use this money to register XDA as a developer on the Microsofts upcoming Marketplace store? Maybe it could be turned into something where we the users actually vote which applications should be submitted on a weekly or montly basis. I just think there's so many great apps on XDA that it'd be a great way to get them, and xda-devs as well, some exposure. I'm sure there's lots of people on XDA that have developed great apps whether they be keyboards, or scroll modification tools, or other utilities that may not want to spend 99 bucks and dont think they will actually develop 6 apps.
Chime in guys, i dunno if i'm crazy...but i think it might be a good idea.
I suspect that the first major hurdle would be this:
You are able to download so many great apps from XDA-Devs because they are generally free, and that is why people are allowed to post them here. If they were not free, I am pretty sure they can no longer be advertised on XDA-Devs, correct me if I am wrong.
So if there was a way to recoupe the $99 join fee when all people are doing is offering free apps and taking no profit, them I am sure people would be willing to consider it. I also believe that after you have uploaded six apps, then it is another $99 for every app after, no?
It is a good idea, and deserves some thought, I just can't think of how to make it viable. XDA is popular enough that if there was a way to make money from it, it would have made its own marketplace

Designer for your apps - Free

Hi
Currently web & print designer, I recently felt in love with Android. I will soon switch from Blackberry to a Nexus One.
Thus, I just post a thread to offer my help by designing your apps' layout.
Of course, for free. But in a first time, I will only give my help for apps that will be released for free.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking. But yes, I'm an actual freelance graphic designer, but I don't want to ask money for this. Most of developpers take on their free time to give free apps, and I understand they have no money to give to a designer. This is these developpers I want to help.
Please feel free to visit my portfolio (link in my profile )
There isn't apps designing examples, but I hope there will be some soon
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, and same way I'm waiting for your projects
See you soon !
Feel free to ask any question.
I'm ready to get involved in your projects
Kind heart yet nobody wishes you to help. Strange eh? I think its great you offered your expertise for free.
I am amazed more people have not taken you up on your offer yet either!
Your designs look great. Although, I am not too shabby with graphics, it is always great to get a fresh eye and skill set involved. Do you have problems with ad supported apps?
Also, I have an app that I would actually like to translate to French.
I might take you up on this offer when I get my Android device in a month or so and start modding/developing for Android. I'm not quite that good with graphics.

FREE apps possible?

Like the iPhone, when you jailbreak it, people who cracked the app can download it for free. Can we also do same?

Support your devs, apps and roms. You have no clue how much time goes into either, the least you can do is pay/donate for their hundreds of hours of work. Its possible but me/or probably anyone else that knows how to do it isnt gonna tell you. I've even donated to developers who do good work, and I'm a developer.
Nada broski. It's illegal and unethical.

applanet
I dont condone either but they are out there...
We don't discuss Wares, pirated software, etc. here on XDA. Read the sticky. Please close this thread!
sorry. guys...
Anyone immoral and unethical enough to crack and post "free" apps on the internet is also immoral and unethical enough to include a virus, steal your identity info, or anything else. One way or another, you end up paying for that kind of stuff. It is much cheaper and easier in the long run to support the developers so that they have the incentive to continue to develop.
God forbid you don't spend $.99-$5
Skip the Big Mac for one week and pay for your app.
Support the community.

the only place i used pirated software with apps is on my iPhone, but i would only try them for no more than a day and then i would choose to buy it or not due to the fact that theirs no refund policy with ios

When I got my first android phone almost 2 years ago, I [plead the fifth]. Within 20 minutes I felt so guilty that I immediately bought the app and donated an extra $10 to the developer. I don't understand how you can do such a thing, Android even lets you return the app if it wasn't what you were looking for!
Thread closed, this is illegal.

[Q] Best Way To Get Exposure

I am currently developing a couple applications for android. I just released my first one which you can see in my signature but I have a few questions before I release my next application which will be the "big one" I guess you could say. I am having a hard time getting exposure for my current application mainly due to the fact I think that I have not submitted it to the Android Market. I have submitted it to GetJar where I was accepted and it is currently under review at the Amazon App Store. I am trying to earn enough for the $25 fee for publishing to the Android Market but I can't get to this goal with people downloading my current application and viewing ads. So my question is what is the best way to get people to download my app?
- You can make a thread about the app in the Paid Software Announcement and Discussion section.
- If your app is innovative, special and high quality you can email Gizmodo/Lifehacker/AndroidCentral/Phandroid/Droid-Life and ask if they can write about it.
That's about the things i can think of that doesn't cost anything.
Thanks for the suggestions! I am trying to gain some by posting about my developments and programming on my blog which seems to be helping a little bit but I am having a hard time gaining downloads. I will try a few suggestions with my next app and see how it goes.
This thread is interesting although it's old.
Why Didn't you consider the advertising option.

How much does making and developing an application cost?

Hello world,
I am currently in the process of designing/creating a Twitter application for Android. I've searched the web for cost of development, and a lot of websites state that it takes thousands of dollars to create an application. These answers have development teams in mind though, and I am looking to do everything myself. I'm aware that this is an extremely HUGE project, but i'm willing to devote the time simply because I enjoy the process. I'd just like to know if there are any development fees involved when making an application entirely by myself. Are there fees i'd have to pay to Twitter? Fees i'd have to pay for development in general?
Any insight is appreciated!
Thanks for your time.
A lot of it comes down to a few things.
1. How much of the work are you going to do yourself and how much will you have to farm out to coders, designers, etc?
2. How much is YOUR time worth? That is, will this project take you away from a paid job?
If you're developing apps in your spare time all by yourself, then the costs should be negligible. That's part of the reason why there are so many free apps in the Play Store. Well, that and a lot of advertisements.
Developing the appps is free.
If you want to upload it to play store account which will cost you 25 $
And nothing more.
