Anyone know of an app that will monitor data usage on an app by app basis? I know there are heaps that will monitor total data use, but I'm looking for something to show the data used by apps individually.

I use 3g watchdog. it has a widget with it and can stay in your notification bar
Have you found the tool?
I also search a tool that can show what app used how much data.
Actually, i have something eating a lot of data, and even uploads a lot and i don't know what it is (40 to 50 MB per day are used on my data plan only because of that).
I don't want to necro a thread, but just in case people are interested in the answer:
I found 2 apps on the market that can do this. TrafficInfo and TrafficStats.

Im logged out of all social networking even gmail and Gtalk, but something still eats up to 30MB per day, by the time i wake up in the morning almost 10MB alrady used up.
You should give My Data Manager Free a shot. It keeps track of mobile, wifi and roaming separately. It shows data usage per app and displays usage by bar graph or pie chart.

Sorry for the bad recommendation. I don't think there is anything that will do what you need on 2.1. Why are waiting for gb why don't you update to froyo in the meantime?

I believe this is iPhone only?
SPB Wireless Monitor is an excellent application for keeping track of data usage of almost any sort.
Resco Contact Manager is also great to keep track of both call usage and text messages sent and received in a given time, usually the current month.

SPB Wireless Monitor is on v3.1.0
Resco Contact Manager is on V2, I think. The app only says "2nd edition".
Hi,
I have Galaxy S I9000 Froyo update (German version) and would like to know if there is an app on the market (free or paid version) which would keep 2G Net connection and would switch to 3G Net (UMTS) only when one other app looks actively for data in Internet.
The reason for this is that I do not need to check e-mails regularly or as a push version (I'd rather do this manually) and do not need syncing with my google account on regular basis (once a day I can do manually something like this).
I would hope that an app like this would save me a lot of battery time.
If there is a way to do this on Galaxy I9000, please let me know.
At the moment I use APN on/off switch to achieve this, but an automated version (which would react to starting an Internet app such as Opera, Market, E-Mail app etc.) would be VERY nice
Thanx in advance for any and all info/suggestions,
Pavana
P.S. Yes, I did use search function but after wasting some 6 hours of reading all postings non of which came close to my wishes I gave up.

(to turn 3g or WLan on when a specific app is started: Internet browser or Market and turn it off when the app is killed).
I am sorry, but you have to deal with a complete idiot here: I bought the tasker
but after several days of trying to do it - I was not able to do this.
Could some "good, sweet soul" help me waste no more of my "quality time with my family" with simple introduction on how to do it?
My tasker is still a virgin - no tasks, I have I9000 International edition.
Thanks in advance.
Pavana
Hello,
I wanted to know if there is any app which displays data usage for 3G/WiFi in detail. I want to know details of data usage for download/upload, and also it would be better if it can analyse data usage by any other application like browser, Youtube/Facebook/etc.
Check this

Kaseya agent is not a network monitoring tool per se. You will not be able to disable it without uninstalling or your administrator knowing about it.
All I can suggest at this point is to either keep your network traffic clean and suitable for work or to take your concerns forward with your manager.
ah is thats so? so like wont it be like monitoring our data usage you know... the most computer with the next work usage? btw have you tried it?
I know the software pretty well. The agent can do many things and it CAN monitor network usage so that reports can be run to show the top consumers - it all depends what your admin has configured the agent to do.

Hey there,
If using API 21 or higher, you can use the UsageStatsManager, which can tell you how much time each app has spent in the foreground.
what about the older API's ?

No, you won't be able to see the stats.
For older APIs you could use getRunningTasks in ActivityManager, but it's not nearly as nice. You would basically have to compute the usage stats yourself. The first app in the list returned by this method should be the app currently in the foreground. So you could call this method fairly frequently and measure how much time each app spends in the foreground.
thanks a lot Kolejnik for guiding me.
