Hey Guys and Gals...
Just been messing with the sliders and settled on a grey bar across the top of the slider back ground..
I have a small problem with the alignment on the slider icons.
From what I can tell.. There are two bar icons one that is always present and one that appears as you scroll and changes to the tab that you are selecting.
The The top most is the one that changes as you slid across the bar. This one seems a little larger than the permanently visible.
Does any one know the manila files or a method to change so they are the same size or move the topmost down a couple of pixels.
Thanks
Neville
What did you use to change it? If your using HD Wall then I would say not that I know of since it does all the work for you. If you are using Mode9 or CFC_GUI then you can just edit the picture in photoshop.
I used manila editor to extract the PNG of the slider and changed that...
I'm ok with that part Hence the small grey line above the home icon...
I'm looking for a source that will tell how to change the slider foreground or background icons.
Any Idea?
Thanks
I´m not sure that i understand it right.
But you can use HDwall to create a slider. Put the images in HDwall convert and than you find the manila files in the HDwall programm folder. These you can copy to your Windows folder on your Device.

Hope that is what you want.

I like what you're doing with the slider mate. It's always bugged me the way it is, and what you're doing looks really subtle. Are you planning on cabbing up the manila files when you're done?
johncmolyneux - I may be asking you to cab it
I've replaced the slider with the line above the icon. I – like you – hate the way the slider sits above the tabbar. However I’ve found that making the slider transparent shows that the two icons don’t sit over each other. This has always been a peeve for transparent slider frames.
So I’m now trying to find the foregrounds Icon and turn those transparent, so that it only looks as though there is one icon.
Whilst I’m there I was thinking of making the back ground icons transparent, so that you would only have current tab icon showing, one step at a time...
Thanks for the interest.. here is the slider if you want to try
Not zipped, just rename and remove the ".zip"

Backup Backup Backup
It's a simple alignment issue. I found the same issue when I made my sliders. I just use photo shop to make the current tab icon a bit bigger an move it ever so slightly over so that it full covers the lower icon. It's not hard just set the two images over one another in a layer to make sure it will cover it properly before uploading back into manila form.

If your looking for a list of the manila names and exactly what they do I can't help you there. Depending on the ROM you could have 3 to 4 files that are associated with each tab. The slightly larger one is the foreground image while on the tab. The others are the static, highlighted, and tab selection on the settings page for tab order.
You can go through and change each one at a time till you figure it out or you can wait till somebody responds with the list you are looking for which I don't think will happen. Sorry........
I thought that may have been the case - Thanks anyway - Wanted to do something like this for an ages... will have to mark what the files do when I find them. I'm sure I saw a Wiki page but can't find it at the moment...
Managed to reduce the height on the selector of level one and two.
I know there is a list that will tell you what each manila goes to ie Home,MMS,Email, etc but it will not tell you what it does in relation to the tab as far as foreground,selected,static,etc...
KNows you where that is?

there'e all files I used:
more additional and simpler method
used only 2 files:
Nice and thanks
I tried the two files and they worked well here (Pure running Tess 4.1)
I had a few personel changes I would prefer
White(er) clock digits would be more visable on my dark background
And I sometime have a hard time finding the current icon (to slide it )
with the transparent slider, I mainly changed it to get the 5 icons
Either of these "user" adjustable?
(wasn't there a select from multiple clock faces setting somewhere?)
I also noticed (its what really 1st got my attention!)
you have 5 launcher icons
I really like that feature! or even 4 wide how many total icons (rows?)
and how did you do that?
Thanks

Sorry as a follow up I decide to remove the clock and slider
unfortunately I was unable to remove the clock completely
(remove programs failed) Fortunately I had backed up first and
was abel to get back the original white flip clock with a cold reset and restore
I might have had more luck if I turned off TF3D before attempting removal?
but just as a heads up the cams I had the problems with were
No_BG.cam and No_slider1920.cab
I've also noted that it Doesn't look like the task bars with the two file solution
are actually transparent? they look solid black?
The pic thats with the three files TF3D 2.5 top and bottom curtain files
and clock 26 trans. looks more like what I'm looking for, bit I don't understand how you replace the single manila files with the 3 masks (they all have the same name. even though in different subdirs) but can't help but wonder if these will work with the set of "colored task bar icons" I'm using? (aren't the masks
specific to the icons artwork?
I know I've asked "a lot" and from two different authors, but I'd be willing to
bet its an interesting topic that at least a few people would like to know more about.
Thanks

I'd like to have the bottom slider (the one for selecting tabs) semitransparent.. Actually it is in today screen, ma I'd like to have it semitransparent also on all tabs.

Where are the images of these stored and what registry keys do I need to change (if any)?
Thanks
PS: I use JWMD for the start menu icons, is there a similar app for the home screen tab? - probably not
please guys, somebody help me with this.

Hi Antaed.
I'm surprised too that no one has replied to your question.
I think the problem is not so much that it is a big secret, but that it is very complicated and therefore difficult to reply to.
I've done a bit of work on changing icons myself, so I can probably explain to you what is involved and what you have to do. But you will need to decide for yourself whether you want to put in the effort...
The slider icons (and the slider itself) are .png images stored in manila files. So the first thing you will need to do is find out, for your version of Manila, which files contain the slider icons for your version.
The best way to find out which files you need to change is to 'unzip' an existing cab which changes the slider icons on your version of manila and read the setup.xml file to extract the names of the manila files in the cab.
Please note that there are 3 files for each slider icon!
Then you will need to extract the .png files from the manila files. I use CFC GUI (available on this forum) to extract the .png files.
Once you have the original .png files, you will see that the slider icons do not take up the whole 128x128 pixels of the file but are placed approximately in the top left corner of the .png file. This will be your guide as to how big to make your new icons and where to place the new icon within the 128x128 matrix.
Please note that there are two different positions depending on whether the image you are replacing is the standard position in the row of icons or the icon visible 'within' the slider (seen as you move the slider along the row of icons), which is slightly higher and to the left.
Once you have created your new .png files in the same format as the originals, you should then use CFC GUI again to replace the original image with your new ones in the appropriate manila file.
You can then either manually move your new manila files across to your device (not recommended) or create a cab file to install them (and uninstall them) in one go (highly recommended!).
I would advise (from experience) only doing a couple of icons first until you have the exact position for the icon with the file. The position should then be the same for every icon.
The slider itself is fortunately only one file and therefore a lot easier to change. Again the best way to find out which manila file you need to change for your version is to unzip a cab file that changes the slider on your version and read the setup.xml file.
Hope this helps... (Well, at least you got an answer!)
And "No", I do not know of an easier way of doing this!
Johnkst, thanks for your kind reply, I started to have doubts I'll get an answer to this .
About the procedure - yes, it's pretty challenging but I'll try .
First because it's kind of a new adventure for me and then because I feel I owe it to you now, as I don't want to leave your effort in vain .
If I'll succeed (and I don't see why not) you'll be the first to receive my work.

I don't know if it will help you, but I am attaching two cabs to this post. They are ones I made myself for my HD2, which uses Manila 2.5.1920. I THINK the same files are used for 1921, but I don't know for sure...
There might be some stuff in there that you do not need, but they might also be useful to help you identify the files you need to change.
One is for the clear slider on the main tabs (it also slightly changes the black '2nd level' slider), the other for the slider icons.
The slider icons it installs are those from Jaguaralani. Let me know once you have downloaded as I will remove them again. I know Jaguaralani does not want his/her theme split up and my posting a cab which installs only the slider icons probably goes against those wishes... - Done!
Good luck!
done, thanks.
i'd like to remove/make the grey background transition non visible, but the transition icon still there, when u slide from tab to tab.
i know it's created by santod by have been searching for it for almost an hr and can't find it..any kind souls to provide me with some direction? he created one that covered all including the tab but not that. Thanks in advance!
click on the link to the slider - under my signature
oh hmm that was the one i found, instead of making it all black, i want it to be totally, altho leaving the large icon there, but instead of blacked, it's gotta be transparent..thanks anyway!
i'm wondering if there is a way to do away with the slider bar in the default wm6.5 home screen. in the pic below (i'm a new user so just copy/paste without spaces, lol.) i just slid the bar all the way to the top to take a screenshot, and i wanna know if i can just remove it for a simple clean homescreen.

Why not switch to "classic today" screen, then check out the themes forum for themes you can apply or search for specific plugins? Is it just that you want the titanium function but not the outline around the selected panels? I'm not sure how to do that, but it should be possible by editing the xml file.
well, when i switch to the classic today screen, or just uncheck Windows Default, under Items, i lose the transparency of the toolbar and taskbar. i guess that if i cold just get rid of the big dark bar in the middle of my screen i would be satisfied. i would just like to be able to see my wallpapers. and yes, i want the titanium function but not the outline around the selected panels.
Ok, gotcha. I don't know off-hand how to do that, though It probably would be as simple as editing the file, or finding the .png that is of that image (in the windows directory) and replacing it with a panel that is completely transparent.
Maybe someone with some experience will come along that already knows how to do that.
To get you started, you may want to look at this theme, which has already made the panels transparent. if you like it, you can just use it. Otherwise, you could potentially compare the xml files, of find the transparent image that he is using in there and copy it over to your device. It's been a long time since i checked/looked, but the xml that controls the sliding panels today screen is usually something like home.xml or something.
[note: if your phone is not touchscreen, use/look at this thread instead]
If you start playing around, back everything up first! You may also want to browse the "post your screenshots thread" and see if you don't come across some other UI that you like better (or another theme w/o the panels). good luck!

The bronzeres.dll is on the windows directory, but modifying the dll is more complicated than editing xml or cpr files, in my previous post there is a link where you can learn how to unsigne, edit, resign the dll file.

I've always wanted a clean, slick looking shade on the notifications pull down and thanks to JsChiSurf, it's pretty easy to theme it.
Here are two that I made today. I haven't gotten around to skinning the buttons yet though.
Try these, static images don't do them justice, it's neat seeing the way they move. For more details on flashing these, please refer for JsChiSurf's thread above. These already contain the updated 2.1.1 services jar.
After zipping, you can use this:

Is it just a matter of replacing the PNG's?
What PNG optimization do you recommend?
Also, how do you change the color of the fonts? I tried to look at the xml files but they open up as strange characters in any text editor I use (Notepad++, notepad, etc)
I also noticed that I lost my battery % after flash jschisurf's mod?
Thanks for your faith! The hardest part is knowing where all the PNG's are that need to be replaced!
Replacing png's is the noob way to do it. But is is the best place to start. You need to find apktool and learn how to use it. This will solve most of your problems with xml's. You also need a program called xml editor. This is my starters list. Here is a link you might learn a lot from.
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/index.html
As far as learning which png's, most are in the drawable-hdpi folder. Stay away from .9.png files untill your ready for them. Apktool will let you know when you make a mistake and where the mistake is to fix. Search youtube and do a lot of reading in this forum. It seems like a lot but after a while you will start to understand how the OS works and manages the files. Happy Themeing!

Go to the sticky where the rom wiki is and at the bottom of that page you will find kitchens. One is for changing battery icons. That one is the easy fix to getting the icons you want into the his mod. But if you must know more, there are 3 xml files in the drawable folder that needs to be replaced to work with more png files than his stock ones. All I can say is APKTOOL and 7ZIP is the bread and butter.
Thanks for the awesome tips and info!

I found the website: FWI use v1.3.1 as v1.3.2 has bugs
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...8j1-bcnOf1Rz8k9fA&sig2=4MkcxzG_ROaqAr4-tWwlGw
As stated, just changing the .png's is the starting way of theming. Just make sure you do a nandroid backup before you go around messing with anything.
When you get comfortable with that, the next step is to look into XML. XML is generally easy to learn but can be complicated at parts. I don't really know of a good starting guide to XML for android but I'll post one if I see it.
NinePatches (*.9.png) aren't as complicated as people think. Once you get the concept of it, they are actually pretty easy. I'm creating a guide for it when I have time. But the basic concept is:
The NinePatch tool ads a 1px border to an image.
The new border can be colored black (except the 4 corners).
The left and top borders defines the stretchable area.
The right and bottom borders defines where content is allowed.
Like I said, I'm making a guide to it which will explain it better and have pictures.

I tried the 9patch app and it's pretty easy to use (I have experience with Illustrator and Flash). However, when I replace the original 9path file w/the new one, it shows the 1 px border on my android. Also, it seems to scale it wrong. I attached an example of what I'm talking about. I measured the bkg of the power toggles to be 80x75, but on the Android, it shrinks the graphic and you can see the 1 pixel border?
Looking forward to that guide!

the background of the icons look fine to me even zoomed in.
if your trying to make the entire power area be the caution image, then there is an xml edit involved in res/layout-hdpi-v4/status_bar_expanded.xml. ill give you the exact change you need if you cant figure it out.
just keep in mind that ninepatch will only stretch images, not repeat.

i found this png: stat_power_background.9.png
which other one is for the background of the entire thing?
about the extra 1 pixel showing, you can see on the sides of the background a black vertical line. on 9patch png's, is the 1 px border that defines the 9patch actually supposed to show? i think there might be something wrong with my 9patch png's.
also, if you look at the screen cap again, there's horizontal white space above and below the toggle widget bkg graphics. is there a way to make them larger so they cover the white space? seems like android likes to shrink them to that size (in the screen cap) no matter how tall the image is.

Well theres a solid color using a ARGB hex (for the background of the power control area) and a png for each icon background by default. you can set it up so there is an image for each.
the stat_power_background.9.png controls each icon (as you may have guessed already)
i'm not sure why the power control area isnt a solid color.
when in the ninepatch editor, you are supposed to see the black extra pixel but when you load it on your phone, they should dissappear. i honestly dont see them in the ss you provided.
can you send me the framework-res.apk you are working on so i can see if everything is set up correctly?
