Watching YouTube videos - they look terrible

On some online demos the vdeos look crisp and clear. On my phone if i select a video from youtube it looks terrible. Even the HD trailer for Tron2 looks bad. Is this normal? Are people in teh demos using special videos for the demo?
Also how do I select an HD version of a video in YouTube? Ir a new resolution?
Is tehre something better than the stock YouTube application?
Thanks!
I don't have a device so can't say for sure how to set it to HD since I think that may be your issue...but have you tried navigating to the mobile Youtub site in your browser?

Left button on the bottom of your phone , there are 4 buttons MENU HOME BACK SEARCH.
You click menu button while watching video with YouTube application and select playback in HQ.
are you connected over cell network or wifi? when the video is playing press menu, more, watch in high quality or their might be a small box in the bottom right corner that says HQ. if it is grey it is low quality, if it is red it is high quality.
if you are connected over cellular data it might be defaulting to low quality.

YouTube High Quality by default

I had an HTC Aria before my Captivate, and noticed a difference in the YouTube app. On my Aria there was a setting to enable High Quality mode by default. Every movie I watched was in HQ mode. On the Captivate I cannot find that option. I have to start the movie, pause the movie, and press Menu > More > View in HQ. At least in the Aria version there was a toggle for HQ/LQ in the seek bar to the right.
Does anyone know if there is an option I am missing, or a way to install a version that would have this option?
i would check out this thread:

i took the youtube app from that one and it works great

[Q] Screencast/Screen Record/Screen Capture HELP!

I have searched google and various forums and watched youtube videos and best I can come up with is to download SDK with [email protected] and get 30fps.
I want to know how I can get better frame rates and/or also see on screen when I touch the screen.
For example, in the video below, the frame rate is rather high. A nice flowing video AND you can see when and where the screen is touched. How can I do this?

The screen capture app I use is ShootMe. It requires root though.
From XDA App on Infused v2.1.0 OCed to 1.6 GHz
There are a few out there. search the market for screen capture and screencast. shoot me now offers video capture and screen pics. i have a couple of apps that allow you to send a screencast to your pc wirelessly but i jave not tested them yet. (droid vnc server is one)

I used shootme but the fps is bad. I look at app tutorials on your tube nd they are very high frame rate and you can see spotlights pop up when the user touches the screen. Check the video link I posed and you can see what I mean.

[Q] HD 60fps

I cannot seem to make this work. I choose HD 60fps in the video camera options and yet when I play the video back it is not slow motion. Is anyone else having this issue?

Is it playing back at 60fps?
Thread moved. Please post in the correct sections of the forum in future. Questions go in Q&A.
Thanks

I wondered that too. But. When you go to the camera application, the one it shipped with, then press the video camera icon to switch it to video mode, on the bottom left a slide out toolbar is revealed. if the icon that looks like film negative is pressed, I get four options: normal video, video mms, slow motion, and time lapse. On pressing the slow motion button, "HD 60fps" is shown at the top left of the screen. When I press the record button, and play the resultant video back on the phone, It plays in real time. I copied the file to my computer and it played back on my computer; it plays in real time. Right clicking the file and then >properties>details showed 60fps. When I record in the "time lapse" mode, the resulting video plays as it should, fast, the clouds or what-have-you roll by. I called Motorola today, spent half an hour, talked to two customer service reps. Nothing. The second one went and got their "hands on Photon Q" He didn't even have a "slow motion" icon in the place I described. I then asked him if the firmware was updated on the phone. It was not. I have "77.8.10.XT897.Sprint.en.US" which is the recent update I believe. Would someone mind just trying this slow motion feature out and telling me whether is works for my piece of mind? Thanks!
Just checked this, an apparently when you record a video with 60fps mode, you then have the option to adjust the playback speed in the lower left corner (landscape orientation) from 1x to 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8. This option is missing on normal videos. Haven't tested yet how it translates off the phone on youtube or such. Maybe setting the playback speed sticks in the file?

Well done man Thank you
Wow! you are observant!
I did not notice the x factor in bottom left! I tapped it, changed the speed, exported the file to dropbox, played it back on my computer and it was in slow motion. Is this documented and i totally missed it? Even the Motorola folk were confounded...

That made me lol
Umm, I was mistaken
The video is apparently taken in 60p. It plays back in 60p which makes it real-time. The Photon can play it back at 30 which makes it 1/2 speed, and smooth. Exported, a player (VLC etc) wants to play it back at 60fps = realtime. As far as i can tell, you need to change the playback speed with an editing program to have it play back at another speed (say 30p) in a normal player. Hope this helps ...

Very Bad audio quality in video recording

Hello guys First of all it's my first post in the nexus 5 group (i've did a pre-search) and i contact you with this problem
Last night i went out with friends at a pool party and used my nexus 5 for recording some videos from the stage. The music wasn't to loud, just like normal club music, in open space. Today when i took a look on the video i got scared...the sound quality is insanely BAD !. It's like the phone is set to +100 gain in the microphone... I tried normalizing audio in premier pro but with no chance. So i ask you guys, do you know any solution on how i can repair the problem. The best audio quality i had in recording videos in club (audio especially) was with my Nokia E51 that had the best mics i can find one a phone...
so here is a comparison:
In club music (closed space) shot with my Htc One S (no dual mic or things like that) -> https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=487777791348118&set=vb.100003477036350&type=3&theater
in club music (closed space) shot with my Nokia E51 (a 5-6 years phone that still records audio crispy clear for a phone ! - don't look at video quality) -> https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=247706518688581&set=vb.100003477036350&type=3&theater
last night with my nexus 5 ->https://www.dropbox.com/s/3vtisokit5ontwl/VID_20140727_032412.mp4
All the link are so you guys can see that exact problem that i have. I want to repair it, if it is possible in the stock rom (with a app) or if i need to install a custom rom, what is the best rom that resolves my problem and has best performance .
Thank you in advance !
I have exactly the same problem. Tried recording at a couple of indoor parties(so a little louder than your situation. Couldn't recognize any music when playing the video's afterwards. Terrible quality

Partial fix - i think
Ok so last night i got an app from play store called microphone that has a setting on the mic called mic gain. it was set to +32 dB....overgain ! so i set it to 0 and did some recording in the house with my audio system on a high volume and afterwards put the phone next to the speaker and seem that it records decent . but i think it is a problem related to software settings... will keep you updated on what i found
Sounds awesome. Thanks for your effords

Problem solved?
I can't post links so if anyone wanna fix this or just post the links from my post that would be great, thank you.
So I've found a solution, or at least a temporary one
Get the camera app called Lgcamera. In this app you can manually set your audio settings.
Set it to AAC and set the stereo option to On (this did it for me atleast).
/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.lgCamera&hl=sv
I made a little video about it since I couldn't find this solution before, hope it helps!
/watch?v=RVWcE3dQoMk
Please help spread the video on forums where this issue is discussed so more people (and perhaps even Google?) can record without that awful noise reduction/cancellation! If enough people complain then they will probably (hopefully) implement these settings in the "Google Camera" app!
Thanks for the video! This is the video.

BE CAREFULL though with LGCamera, because I found that no matter what you choose in settings, fullHD (1024p) videos are ALWAYS recorded with 15 frames per second only (vs 30 as normal), making the videos look very choppy. So I deinstalled LGCamera again. Otherwise great app.
But I found a good substitute, it called Open Camera, link to the (free) app and also a possible video mic fix (reduces mic gain).

Hmm, strange. I do not have that problem. I record with 30FPS without any problems. Maybe something is wrong in the settings? Have you tried changing the video format around? The app is not that great but it does the job for now, atleast for me.
Edit:
I noticed that the front camera is not that great in Lgcamera, but the back I have no problems with. I recorded a video on my instagram if anyone wanna check it out. I'm still changing the bit values around hoping it will sound even better.
Speakers are "semi-loud" and i recommend watching the video in your phone or atleast lowering the bass if you're watching it with "real speakers".

Here are my settings for this particular video:
Back camera
1920x1080
H.264
Vid Bitrate 17mbit
Vid framerate 30
AAC
44100 Samplerate
128000 Bitrate (unsure of what value is best here)
Stereo OFF
Ok thanks, I might give it another try... Open Camera works well for me, though.
Did you check the actual framerate of your resulting video with a tool like mediainfo or VLC Player codec Info?
Nice guitar work btw

Open Camera works too, but I still get the audio artifacts when recording with a backing track. I get those in LG too, just not as much. Lg is in no way perfect, but the sample and bit rate allows a bit more customization if you ask me.
I'll upload one with OC when I get home! And thanks
By the way, what settings did you use in Open Camera? Or did you just lower the gain?

higher bitrate = better quality/higher filesize :good:
HUUUGE discovery today!
Update your LG-camera, go to settings and set audio to "voice communication" = headset. You can now record with your headset, see my instagram @Callemusicman for results!
It completely removes the noise cancellation!!
Isn't there any other solution? Because if i use, for example, Instagram, the sound is still very bad... so this LG app isn't usefull for recording with Instagram or other apps...
