Hi,
Looking to use my N1 to help manage my money, however I'm finding managing everything on the phone a bit fiddly. Ideally I would like to be able to manage things on my desktop, either with a separate app or through the browser
Does anyone know of any Android apps which have a desktop component or allow syncing with some other service?
Thanks!

I'm looking for a Blackboard Application for Android (obviously). If you don't know what the program is here is a link. It's used for class work at a lot of colleges. There is a mobile app available for iPhone and I believe one is in development for Blackberry.
http://www.blackboard.com/
I previously have worked with Blackboard as both a student and an instructor. Aside from the fact that Blackboard, eLearning, WebCT, etc are all crappy tools, I believe their API for access is completely closed off so developing an Android app relies mostly on Blackboard's end to develop it.
I know it's not the answer you're looking for, but there are other tools on the web like Blackboard that provide your own private course set up to keep track of your documents for class, etc. If you just keep on top of what's being uploaded for Bloackboard then you can keep a pretty nice management suite for all of your coursework, but it obviously won't be up to date with what your teacher uploads.
I hope you find something that works, cause I've looked into this myself. Let me know if you have any luck.
If I recall, blackboard is basically implemented as a website.
That being the case, just point your browser at it and be done.

Yes I figured as much. I wrote blackboard on the situation and I've not received a response and I don't think that I should. I had heard however that certain rooted Android based phones are able to run iPhone apps. I don't know if thats because of developers converting the apps or there is actually an emulator available.

That was my initial attempt actually. Their are various plugins with the site that make that complicated. The website rejects logins from mobiles. I actually have trouble accessing the website unless I'm using either Firefox or IE.

You sure about it rejecting mobile sites? I do remember accessing the site via Opera Moblie 9.5 beta(when it was just leaked) on my WM phone and via Opera Mini 4 with out an issue.

Yes it actually has to do with the school. While Blackboard is run via a website that website is administered by the school. The school I go to blocks all connections from cell phones for some reason. I've spoken to the IT support guys but they don't seem to care about working with me. I'm transferring schools next semester so hopefully I won't have to worry about it after that.
Im not positive, but i am pretty sure i have accessed blackboard with my mytouch. i am running CM 4.2.8 and enochx. what you have to do is go into the browser and go into settings, there is an option called mobile web settings and in there you can choose desktop and it makes you phone like a regular browser. thats what worked for me, hope it works for you too.
Works on Dolphin for me, check my grades there often.
I have also been able to access blackboard just fine on the default browser and Dolphin Browser.
A stand alone app would be cool, but would require alot of work and possibly authentication from the school? which would not happen
I use blackboard with my g1 browser quite often. I cannot say that there are no problems, but can that ever be said in regards to blackboard?
as a student I've used Blackboard, WebCT and Moodle..and i gotta say I found Moodle to be the coolest (and as I recall it's open source).
Anyway, if your school blocks connection from mobile phones, you can use the Dolphin Browser (or the default one if it's modded) and change the user-agent to Desktop instead of Android. Maybe that would work?
Bb on G1
It's always been a bucket of headaches, but i can confirm that perseverance pays off. The main issue is endless loop/failure on trying to login. My most reliable way around this is by accessing my school's main student portal page first and after logging in there, using the Blackboard course link. Kind of a backdoor in but if your school provides that sort of portal, it's worth a shot. Also FYI, when I had a BlackBerry I never had any luck with stock browser, but Opera always worked. Good luck, hope this helped.
so apparently there is a Sprint only Blackboard app out now for Android phones, does anyone know why it's only for Sprint phones or if it'll ever be a standard market app?
YES!! my school has quite a bit of trouble working blackboard, and there are always issues getting students into class, allowing them to see the class shell etc... And on dolphin I can check it, but sometimes it would block me. This app is extremely needed. Sucks its only on sprint....but I'm glad i got a sprint hero!
I am desperately trying to find this app so I cant install it on my phone even though i am with T-mobile.

Why doesn't someone just use skyfire, let's you fool a page that you're a desktop and not a phone.
I found an easy way to do remote desktop with the G-Tab to my PC....
Download and install an application called ShowMyPC onto your desktop computer and run it.
Download the ShowMyPC app from the Market and run it.
2 steps and your done....
Works great....
Heres site for more info...

alternatively you can install Team Viewer on your pc and then their app on your tab and you now have full access to your pc remotely. Like this the best. can login and help friends and family on their pc's too and they only need to run a temporary program with nothing to install. Also has a great web interface to access from any computer running mac, win, or linux. Switched from logmein about 6 months ago and never looked back. The app runs fairly well on the tab.

Looks about the same idea. Now we have to good ways of doing it simply.. Thanks...
I just installed the team viewer app today. Wasn't worth it on my droid-X (can't believe i'm saying this but the screen is too small on the X for it) but its one of the make or break features I needed in a tablet. Navigating takes getting used to though.
Yeah it did take a few moments to get use to how to move the mouse around and click or double click on the touch screen but once I got the hang of it it's OK...

Very cool! I've been looking for a way to not pay LogMeIn $30 for their Android App! Thanks!!! Works great!!!
The team viewer is great way better than the application I use at work (tightvnc)
I installed easyvnc on my laptops, then androidvnc from the market onto the gtab, works great! Nothing like watching what the kids are doing on the computers remotely.
Just installed team viewer on two computers and the tablet. I think it works great! Thanks for the info.

Played with that a few months back but couldn't get it to work for me on my Droid-X. Might have to give it another try on the tab. Don't like leaving things not figured out. not sure if it was an issue with the phone or the router or my install. Might give it a shot this weekend.
And another good one is
phonemyPC
DL'd from slideme and it does the job for me.

better option
I’ve tried some of the free options and I personally didn’t like the idea of needing software on my pc. I wanted a Real RDP client the best thing I have found that fit my needs was Pocket Cloud Pro. It’s not cheap it’s like $15 in the market but it is the most robust option by far.
Another option is WYSE PocketCloud. I use it and it seems to work fine as well. Also FREE.

Not all versions of pc operating systems support RDP. Plus I'm cheap .

Gunkle, thanks very much for a great tip! With TeamViewer I can now log into my broker's site that uses a Java app. I hadn't thought remote control would have been possible with a tablet without this thread. Thanks to all for the heads-up discussion.

LogMeIn Ignition
TeamViewer is a great tool but it is crazy expensive (Over $900). Since I need it for work I decided to use LogMeIn Ignition which is less than $40. I don't miss any features TeamViewer may have had as LogMeIn has everything I use. It's great and it's affordable. I highly recommend to folks to buy and PAY for apps rather than use free versions if you can so you can help support the developers and/or companies that will continue to make good apps for our Android OS. I felt $40 was fair and $900 was just plain crazy.

So what are you doing/evaluation to incorporate Xoom into your environments?
I have been asked to test a Xoom for company use, and I'm curious if there are other administrators out there who are doing the same thing atm.
There is little to no "administration" features aside from being able to remote wipe with Exchange 2007.
You can't create user accounts that I am aware of.
The tablet syncs to a gmail account. If I use an account for administration, such as placing purchased apps on the Xoom, how can I keep users from accessing the market or the account? If I remove the Market App are they able to put it back on? So far we don't care if they put Music or Movies on it for when they travel. But since these are a company provided we just don't want unapproved apps.
There are more things, like basic document editing, RDP etc that we are evaluating several apps for.

Hm well I assume you understand that someone could root the device and put whatever they want onto it, which is unlikely if they value their jobs but I was just putting that out there. I don't believe there is a way to remove the market unless you have root access so that makes it a bit more complicated :/
I'm also interested in seeing what others have to say so consider this my subscribing post
I would think the same barriers to using Android phones would exist for the xoom.
Your question about market, paid apps, etc.. would be the same for android phones.
Apps/Products like Touchdown for Tabs, Roadsync (Can't tell if its been updated for tablets or Xoom yet), or something like Good for Enterprise (better for a more "complete" solution, per their site v1.7.1 of the client supports Xoom) could help with some/many of the challenges and obstacles.
But it sounds like some of the control you are looking for will only come from a closed environment like RIM's Blackberry... where when using a BES, you can completely lock down or restrict the devices via IT Policy.
I work at a K12, and we have 32 tabs to lend out to teachers for use in their classrooms. So far, they've only used them to read books on Amazon's Kindle, but we have requests coming in about "can they do this, and can they do that?" which has me researching, is there a good way to manage these devices?
We have iPads that are managed by Apple's Configurator program, and it's decent, but still lacks a lot of function in itself. I'm wondering if there is a way to manage the Tabs from one computer in such a program where I can tell the tabs what they can and can't do (user access) and what admins can do (install apps/remove permissions/grant permissions, etc). Has anyone ever dealt with this before?

The only app (as far as I know) to remotely manage Android devices is AirDroid. I believe there is also TeamViewer available.
Hey Guys
i was wondering if anyone of you ever spend some time figuring out which app is the best PC Remote app for our beloved photon q is?
Thanks in Advance
Well, it obviously requires install of a service... but seems to work with all OS's, and will punch through pretty much any firewall - TeamViewer. Free for 'personal' use, and works great when I'm on the go or just sitting in another room.
If you're looking for an app which just does RDP, I've heard good things about 2xRDP.
Chrome Remote Desktop e.g.
