probably not the right area to post this. post in q and a

I just put both widgets, the small and big, on my screen. I got no problems with BW.

Mines work just fine. its prob something you did wrong?

Lol the market auto installed... Its installed on market.. But when i press and hold, go to widgets.. all i see is the standard froyo ones :S

Fixed by reinstalling lol

same here only froyo widgets

maybe a reboot will show all your restored apps.
I got a notification saying all apps were restored.

Wrong Section - Move this to Q & A

Can someone move this thread?
When I turned my phone on this morning all my Widgets are gone again!!
Waiting eagerly for a cm mod of this, maybe it's cus of the SD install
It keeps putting me back to android keyboard too

Same exactly problem here, thank god I wasn't alone...... Keyboard goes back to stock on reboot and beautiful widgets gets removed from screen/menu to add it back.....Have to uninstall/reinstall.......
EDIT: Even mounting the SD card removes my Beautiful Widget.......WTF Google!!!

Maybe we need to wipe and re flash? Im pleased it isn't just me lol. All my widgets go lol

well i been playing around with it..... Firstly, I uninstalled any apps that were giving me trouble (Beautiful Widgets, HTC_IME keyboard and cachemate widget).... The I used 'pm setInstallLocation 0' to have my apps install back to the phone storage..... I can now reboot without losing my shiiiiiit!! So hope this helps some of you, course there not on 'SD' then but hey they don't alllllll need to be

Read this and you'll see which apps won't be able to install on SDcard without breaking: Install Location Details

So i guess its best to install normal apps on sd, any widget programs etc on the phone?

You have to install the app on phone memory in order to make widgets work.
Apps on SD card will not have widgets available to launcher.
Maybe it's a bug in Froyo, or technical issues can't be solve by Google (unlikely) :/

Simple fix
1)
adb shell
pm setInstallLocation 0
This will set it back to factory settings, THEN reinstall beautiful widgets and every other widget that gives you problems upon reboot. This will reinstall it back on your phone
*after reinstall of widgets, or any thing else that disappear upon reboot, proceed to step 2*
2)
adb shell
pm setInstallLocation 2
This will default you back to installing apps to SD card.
=====
Apparently, even when i was setup as "pm setInstallLocation 0" moving the beautiful widgets back to phone memory via "manage applications" didn't not hold up after reboot. This method i mentioned does, after numerous reboots!
Enjoy

Terminal set locations works, but you can also just select the app(s) move to phone option and reboot the apps should be moved. Works for me

Help - App Problem

My rooted wildfire worked fine and just out of nowhere this (see attachments) appears. I have no idea which app this is and I want to remove it. I coveres my screen and is really annoying.
Anyone has an idea which app or what this is it?
That is pretty odd. I'm not familiar with that particular widget. It looks like a System info Widget or something along those lines. There are 2 ways I would attack this, one is just long press on it and drag it over the trash, hold until it asks you if you want to uninstall. This should work if it is an app/widget that has been installed in the /data/app folder. I am not familiar with your phone, but if you are rooted, most likely your launcher has the hold over trash to uninstall option. If your launcher does not have that option, then I would install ADW or Launcher Pro, as they do. If the app/widget in question is installed in the /system/app folder, then it will not generally uninstall in this manner. But, you should at least be presented with the name of it and then you can install Titanium Backup and uninstall it with that app. All of the apps I have mentioned are either free, or have free versions in the Market. Hope this helps.
Well it's not an app or a widget. When I long press it, it justs ask me if I want to add something to the screen as if this thing never existed.
And this thing won't disappear when I'm using apps or doing anything.
edit: my first guess was that Taskpanel is causing this problem but after uninstalling it with titanuim it was still there
help me plz
edit2: found a way to get it off. used the app andoird tweak, setting, advanced setting, show procesor load (or something like that )

Home Dock

If i were to use TB and make a back up of the blur home dock and then pull it from my SD card to my computer, then install liberty rom (which dosent have the home dock blur) and then take the backup and put it into my system folder again would that be able to work? end ressult haivng the home dock on liberty? (this feature is important to me to have as much as i love liberty i rather run GB because of this feature >.> )

You may try that but you can just try by installing your ROM then installing the home dock like any other app. And if need be, delete your old launcher.

yea i tried that with TB but it was crossed out in the app list and when i hit on it i wasnt able to restore it. im looking for a BG app of the dock home. ill try to get a foyo version and see what happens. this is aggervating.
okay so far heres what ive done
okay im running Liberty .3 on GB and im trying to get the GB desk dock back into liberty with no sucess (well very small maybe) ive downloaded a GB framework zip, extracted the dock.apk and went to install it. it shows up on the screen w/ permissions etc and goes to install and just says "app not installed" and thats it. so i went on the phone and looked at the file with Astro and extraced the files into a directory. then rebooted in bootstrap and tried to install the zip that way but didnt work either. ive found a few zips with the dock that KIND of worked. dock moto.zip was the file. i did bootstrap and installed it. i put it in my home dock and it said i was connected to a multimedia station and showed the icon on the notification bar, but thats the only thing that happened.
any suggestions with this? im struggling here to get this to work. this is a important feature to me to get back running.

[Q] Why won't certain widgets appear on the list of widgets?

I've noticed this problem since I bought my Sensation. I immediately started transferring over apps from my G2 and Xoom (the ones I planned on using on my Sensation, at least). I know which apps have a widget and which don't. When I long-press on my screen and choose widgets, I see most of the widgets of apps I just installed but not all of them.
There are times when I flashed custom roms to try them out and then go back to my nand (clean stock backup) and the same widgets that didn't show up before would now appear on the list.
Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know why this is happening?
Only thing I can think of is that maybe the parent program for the widget got moved to the sdcard. I know widgets have to be in,main, memory to work.
Forgive me if this is an infantile response, I am still fairly new to android, but eager to help if I can.

Hmmm... Interesting, if you're right. In my previous Android phones and on my Xoom, I move all the apps that I can to SD every time and never had this problem. But I will give this a try. I'll report back if this is the case with Sensation on stock Sense UI.
I just restored from a previous nand (good thing I happened to backup for no apparent reason just this morning) and it looks like the widget is there. I checked where the app was and it is in fact on my SD card. So there goes that theory. Hehe.
I wonder if others have the same issue and if they found out the culprit. Thanks anyway, Ivanstein.
One thing I've noticed that with no matter what sensation rom I flash first time i download an app the widgets don't show in the widgets menu until i reboot.

[Q] Valhalla 1.2 Launcher Issues

Have to post here since I'm new... Love Valhalla 1.2! I just get way too many reboots/restarts with (I think) the launcher. If I move an app around, it reboots. Is there a fix/alternate launcher for this? Whitehawkx is the man! I'll donate if it helps!
I'm using Valhalla 1.2 and I get the same thing. I've noticed that anytime that does happen, if I am patient and don't touch the phone for a few minutes, it will eventually settle down again. It only happens to me rarely now. It can be annoying though, I agree.
I think most of us use a launcher from the Market. I use Launcher Pro (I have the paid version but there is a free one) and it works Great. It is way better that stock in my opinion.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
i removed the launcher.apk before flashing. put launcherpro.apk in my system/app folder of the zip file. I then added the ro.home__app_adj=1 line into my build.prop.
finally, i removed w/e apps didnt want and added others to the system/app folder. then i flashed the rom.
i dont have any problems with the launcher redraws anymore cause 1. it is now a system app and 2. it has a high priority when it comes to ram.

you can also place the launcher pro key in the system/app folder prior to install and the pro launcher will automatically be installed. makes flashing very easy should you not want to restore data. it also give you a ton more space because the ROM memory and the internal are separate. instead of only using 200mb of ROM memory and 400 mb of internal, i use 400mb of ROM and only 140mb of internal space.

Hrm...jager555, do you think it would be okay to delete launcher.apk through Titanium and manually push launcherpro.apk into the /system/app? Also, my .apk for launcherpro is "com.fede.launcher-1.apk". Did you rename yours or did you just say that for simplicity purposes?
Does that extra line you add to your build.prop put the launcher into high priority RAM? If so, can't you just set that in the LauncherPro memory settings?
I've still been getting the redraws, so I wanna try this method.

is there any way to make an app high priority in RAM, for some reason my messaging app (go sms pro) always gets killed...didn't have this problem in froyo, but it happens a lot in GB

i would start fresh, to be honest. if you delete the launcher while it is the only launcher running, you are going to get fc's like crazy. i would put launcherpro in the system/app prior to flashing the rom. i do it this way because during the flash, it installs other things too (hidden folders, themes, other things). i usually test everything out before i delete it, but i get rid of all of the launcher stuff, download ui apps, live wallpapers, and 99% of the things i dont use. like with ftw, it had adw launcher, adw themes, and all of this stuff that i dont use, so i delete it before it is even installed. since we've all been scarred with the crapiness of the windows registry, i like to keep things neat.
i found an interesting way to get the actual launcher apk, so you guys feel free to use this method (woot). it will work for 99% of apk (does not work for quickpic, tegrak). uninstall launcherpro. now, redownload it from the market. once it downloads and installs, open root explorer, go to your cache folder. in that, you should see a file called download.apk. this is the launcher pro.apk you just downloaded and installed from the market (think about it. its like your temp folder in windows). take this file and copy it out of the folder to wherever you want. this is the file you put in your system/app folder. i do this for everything. so i dont have to redownload everything. sometimes, i like to start fresh and not restore my personal data and this method makes it easy. you can cust if i ever switch phones to help someone else, i can just flash my customized rom with apps and have it have all the things i have, but with no data. its nice.
the extra line does put it as high priority (credit goes to antonx for that). i did try putting it as high priority in the settings, but it still gave me a ton of redraws on lp.
try it out and if it still redraws, set it as high priority in the launcher settings. or you can change the line item to 0 instead of 1. (ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1) i put this line at the very bottom of my build prop. i only get launcher redraws if i am in multiple apps without closing them and the phone goes to sleep for an hour or two.
bkoon, hope this helps, man

i use go sms pro and i never have that problem. did you delete your mms.apk from the system folder? if you didnt, then that may be why. mms.apk will always have priority over gosms. use the method i told bkoon above to set it as a system app and once you remove mms.apk, you shouldnt get too many closes. yes, it should work with go launcher.

I don't know why every1 is having launcher issues. I never had any problem with it..Do you guys UV or OC to extreme setting or maybe have too many tabs or icons? btw I used titanium backup and remove even more stuff I don't use from the rom like wifi calling, google maps, latitude, drive smart..etc.

@jager555
Is there a guide or a thread somewhere I can read to learn how to mod a ROM BEFORE I flash it? Like you describe in this thread.
I follow what you are saying but because of my level of knowledge I need something more definitive ie what tools I would need and the processes.
I have a windows 7 laptop (brand new) and have 7zip installed. I am going to download and install ADB tonight using a guide from addictivetips.com..
I feel I'm ready to start modding like this... Flashing in fun but this is really modding your Android!
Forgive me if I have gotten off topic or personalized the thread but it seems related to me.
Thank you

lol. its easy, just open the zip file on your computer, go to system folder in the rom, then to app folder. from there, you can add/remove apks. no need for adb. you can do this in linux or mac as well. its a simple procedure that can make the world of difference.
once again, be sure to know what you are removing. what i would recommend is downloading a rom and making a copy to mess with. flash the rom on your phone, then use titanium to see what you can delete. once you know what you can delete, remove it on the copy on the computer. then once you are done, add all of the apps you want into the system/app folder (remember you have a limited space) and then flash the custom rom. its kind of fun to do because it gives you a much better understanding of the system.
i can write a guide, but honestly, i am so busy with work, it will take me a long time. i can try to work on it, but i know for a fact, not this week. i am just swamped.

It sounds easy and I understand what you are saying. It is definitely the way I want to go from now on. I will take your recommendation of downloading and copying a ROM to mess with. It is how I learn mostly anyway
I've done a ton of deleting using TB these last few months so I already know what can be safely removed.
As for the guide, hell you just wrote it lol.

[Q] Weird widget behavior (GB/Valhalla Black)

Hey guys, this just started happening in the last few days and it's driving me batty...
I have widgets that will randomly disappear... or appear in the wrong place...
For example, sometimes on rebooting, Fancy Widgets will not load... or two will load on top of each other...
For another example, my music player widget (4x2) will appear all scrunched into a 2x1 spot where my bluetooth widget is supposed to be.
Or... no widgets will load at all... and I'll have to re-add them to the desktop.
It's all very strange and annoying.
Anyone have an idea of what's going on here? I didn't even know how to search for this...
I've just had it happen to a few widgets in the last few days on my Nova Launcher on SlimBean v4. After removing the problematic widgets and putting them back, all was well again...
Whenever things get wacky the first thing to do is reboot recovery and fix perms. Then wipe cache/dalvik and reboot. Let the phone sit for a bit to rebuild davlik. Then use your phone.
By any chance are you using link2sd? Or putting the widgets on your sdcard? That causes issues as well
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
When I had it happen, it just decided that the Google Music widget was on page 4 instead of page 1, even though it still visually displayed on page 1. I couldn't click on any of the items in the bottom row of page 4... so I long-held on the bottom of page 4, removed the invisible widget, and replaced it on page 1 from where it had disappeared.
I expect that to be a Nova Launcher glitch not a JB or ICS issue though.

I've had that happen as well and concluded it is a launcher issue. Happened frequently on Go Launcher. Has not happened at all on Apex.
Interesting. I'm running ADW EX. Been fine for a dang year... just started doing this and I don't think it's updated recently...
Also - no joy on the davlik wipe / fix permissions. I still have a scrunched MIUI music widget where my bluetooth widget should be.
