[Q] Weird widget behavior (GB/Valhalla Black) - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hey guys, this just started happening in the last few days and it's driving me batty...
I have widgets that will randomly disappear... or appear in the wrong place...
For example, sometimes on rebooting, Fancy Widgets will not load... or two will load on top of each other...
For another example, my music player widget (4x2) will appear all scrunched into a 2x1 spot where my bluetooth widget is supposed to be.
Or... no widgets will load at all... and I'll have to re-add them to the desktop.
It's all very strange and annoying.
Anyone have an idea of what's going on here? I didn't even know how to search for this...

I've just had it happen to a few widgets in the last few days on my Nova Launcher on SlimBean v4. After removing the problematic widgets and putting them back, all was well again...

Whenever things get wacky the first thing to do is reboot recovery and fix perms. Then wipe cache/dalvik and reboot. Let the phone sit for a bit to rebuild davlik. Then use your phone.

By any chance are you using link2sd? Or putting the widgets on your sdcard? That causes issues as well

When I had it happen, it just decided that the Google Music widget was on page 4 instead of page 1, even though it still visually displayed on page 1. I couldn't click on any of the items in the bottom row of page 4... so I long-held on the bottom of page 4, removed the invisible widget, and replaced it on page 1 from where it had disappeared.
I expect that to be a Nova Launcher glitch not a JB or ICS issue though.

Don't know what link2sd is. The Widgets are wherever the phone saved them when I DLed them.

I've had that happen as well and concluded it is a launcher issue. Happened frequently on Go Launcher. Has not happened at all on Apex.

Interesting. I'm running ADW EX. Been fine for a dang year... just started doing this and I don't think it's updated recently...
Also - no joy on the davlik wipe / fix permissions. I still have a scrunched MIUI music widget where my bluetooth widget should be.

Strange ADW Launcher EX issue

I'm running ADW Launcher EX v1.3.3 and CM7 nightly 81.
So I rename quite a few Apps that I have on my home screens. Now if I restart my phone some apps revert back to their original name and some stay renamed. For example, I rename the Xfinity Mobile app to Comcast and any time I restart the phone it reverts back. Where the the At Bat 11 app that I renamed to MLB does does not revert back. There are quite a few other examples...I guess I could list all apps that do and don't revert if that would help.
It's driving my crazy because I can't figure out what is causing this issue. I've tried using lower versions or ADW and it doesn't make a difference. I doubt it's the nightly build causing it but who knows.
Any thoughts on what I can do here??
After doing some further testing I found that if I try to change which screen is the default home screen it doesn't save it either.
I've been having an ADW Launcher EX problem too on my wifes phone. It's been going on for the last 6 or so nightlies. The problem she has is certain widgets resize themselves or disappear altogether. All that we've been doing is going into ADW settings and clicking "Restart ADW". I can't find the cause of it.
I run ADW on the nightlies as well and I only have widgets set, I've never had a problem. It's weird.
I'm going to install Launcher Pro, uninstall ADW, search for adw in root explorer and delete everything left, restart, and install ADW again.
If that doesn't work I don't know what else to try besides wiping my phone completely and starting fresh. I really don't want to do that but we'll see I guess.
You could just uninstall clear data. Or just restart ur phone and wipe cache and davlik. I've done this before to fix odd occurrences

Well I just did a complete wipe and started fresh with CM7 latest stable build and I'm still having the same issues.
Is there any reason certain Apps can't be renamed/saved for some reason?? The ADW launcher that comes with CM7 works just fine and saves the renamed App names. So It's really confusing why ADW EX wouldn't do the same.
Any other thoughts out there on this??
UPDATE
I just installed ADW LAuncher EX v1.3.1 and it seems to be saving my renamed Apps so far. It seems like v1.3.2 and v1.3.3 are causing the issue for some reason now.....very weird

Springpad issues

Has anyone else run into issues with Springpad on their Infuse? I cannot get my notes to go to my homescreen and the widgets wont show up in the widget menu. I reinstalled it yesterday and got the widgets to reappear in the widget menu, but when I shut my phone off last night and turned it back on this morning, the widget transformed into a problem, and the Springpad widgets no longer show up in the widget menu. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it? Or just have a better replacement?
I use Springpad but do not use the widgets. So I tested it by adding the list view widget and the small one, rebooted and the widgets remain. I am using a custom ROM (Infused) so not sure if that has anything to do with it. If you are looking for a replacement, try Evernote.
There is an easy fix for that. I had the same problem with pandora widget, it would always disapper from widget list after the reboot. Go into settings, applications, manage applications then move the app to phone and reboot. It will never disappear after that.

I am using a custom ROM as well (Refuse 1.6). It could be something with that ROM I suppose; I haven't tried any others for long enough to get to using Springpad.

Yep, that'll do. I had not even thought they were being automatically placed there; don't remember ever setting this. Just noticed that all of my apps are being installed to sd card. I'll check around for how to change it. Thanks!
Edit: Springpad was not among those stored on the SD card, turns out. Widget is working again though. It must have been something else.

Wallpaper Bug

Ok. Ive been having a weird wallpaper issue. Every time I reboot my phone it defaults to some weird wallpaper. Ive wiped data, system, cache, davlik. The problem started on Th3ory Nons3ns3 Rom. But i suspect its an app I installed because im running Bamf Forever now(best rom to date) and im still getting this wallpaper change on every reboot. Thanks beforehand for the help
Post the wallpaper.
Or a screencap.
Bamf has a built in utility.
Sure. Here you go good sir.
The weird thing is that the first couple times i noticed the change of wallpaper it wasn't this pic. But the last 3 days or so, it changes to this pic every time. Next im thinking to delete all wallpaper apps. After that I figure i should reformat SD card?

Sounds like the best course of action at this point.
Good news:
I know where that picture came from:
http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap110926.html
Bad news:
I do not know why it would default to that image unless you downloaded it and have it in a wallpaper app folder.
My wallpaper was acting screwy because I use adw but the defualt sense launcher would overwrite because it connects to the Personalize changes option you make in sense (for the lockscreen and background). If you are using a different launcher the sense launcher defaults could be screwing with it. You have to clear the new launcher as default, go back to Personalize for the sense launcher and fix the defaults for lockscreen, background, etc.

Go Launcher Ex - major issue

Last night I was manually updating 4 apps from Google Play and after the 4th updated my Note restarted itself. When it came back to the homescreen it was with a clean install of Go Launcher Ex; 4x4 icons, requests to download Go widgets and none of my icons, folders or widgets to be seen anywhere. Majorly pi$$ed off with it, so much so that I'm back to using TW at the moment. I can't for the life of me remember what the last update before the reboot was but I do know there was a Go Launcher update ready to download after that. Anybody else have this issue, or did I just get 'lucky'?

Never faced such issue. But why not use something called "back up", it is exactly for moments like these!

You're absolutely right and it's my bad that I didn't. Still hacked off that it happened though.
Something like this happened to me. The Note restarted on "safe mode". I could read it on the bottom of the screen, a bit transparent so it could be there and you don't see it properly. On safe mode almost all apps that aren't stock are disabled. I had to restart the phone 2 or 3 times in a row to reboot in the normal mode.
When it happened to me I thought that it was a factory reset
Hope this is your case

I empathize. You don't even have a Titanium back up or something like that? You could restore system settings from that. Just in case. And high time you start having back ups now .

Yep, lesson learned. Always backed up my previous devices but got sloppy with the Note. Starting again today. Empathy appreciated.
only ever had that happen on my old hd2 when go launcher crashed
Go Launcher has now been reinstalled, reconfigured and backed up to the sd card. I best get on and do some work now.

I'm not talking abt something I read but something I experimented. It also happened to me on my SGS1
I have a problem even with ADW Launcher EX - lags when you have 3 screens of widgets... Go Launcher isn't my favourite launcher, but has less lags than ADW... I dont know, which launcher shall I use...
Today, I tried SPB Shell - very smooth, fast, no lags and nice - but I don't think it is worth it's price
Problem with last update
Since the last update I cannot use Preferences: the screen shows up one second, then back to the home screen.
Also, some widgets settings do not show up, and I cannot add applications to home screens.
why if i use go launcher ex (active), can't find S-Planner widget in the widget list in home screen, does anyone know?
it works well with TW launcher, widget looks like hidden in go launcher
I think S-planner become one most important app here

I think I read somewhere that the S Planner widget shares some components with the TouchWiz launcher; hence it won't work with 3rd party launchers.

Power Control Widget Vanished

My Nexus S (i9020a) is running on Jelly Bean, and after recently uninstalling the beta of Apex Launcher and then reinstalling the stable version, I noticed that my Power Control widget was gone.
After I noticed that, I uninstalled Apex Launcher completely (cleared data for the app first to be sure). Still, the Power Control widget was no longer available on my phone.
For the time being, I have downloaded a third-party equivalent off of the Play Store, but I'd really like to know what happened here. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, is there any way to get it back?
App is called power toggle now in play store

Nope. That's a third-party app. The stock Power Controls Widget is nowhere to be found in the app store.
Hi
I'm on the Nexus 7 and have noticed exactly the same thing. This is the stock Android Power Control Widget. It was there with stock launcher and also with Nova Beta, but with Apex, its nowhere to be found.
This just happened on my GNex as well. I figure we're suffering the same issue. Mine vanished after trying out a few 3rd party ones strangely enough. I haven't found anything yet to fix it. Rebooting after an uninstall didn't help either. Any ideas, peeps?

Lol. What the hell? I'm using Widgetsoid for the time being, but this was totally random. I tried reflashing my stock ROM, pushing the launcher via ADB. Zip. Ziltch. Nada. Wonder what could be causing it...

Perhaps a full wipe is in order... But I can live without it for now
Word. I don't really care anymore. It's more of a nuisance that I can't find out why it did.
It becomes unavailable in the widget drawer? What if you on press an empty area on the desktop and select widgets, is it in that list?

No, no longer in the list (for me anyway).
Hi,
Just my 2 cents.... I'm not sure About JB but all other ROMs the app had to be on the phones memory for the widget to even be available or on the widget list.... so perhaps whichever file the power control is in, maybe it got switched over to SD card
Or
An App that was installed moved the files that are needed for that power control widget.
I know its a stab in the dark but ...
Good luck

Go launcher ex
Replace your launcher with GO LAUNCHER EX, free on the Play Store. It is the BEST launcher by FAR. Super fast, tons of options, always free.
Thanks but no thanks
Did a factory reset and Power Control widget is back (on stock launcher), stock N7 JB.
I figured that's what I would have to do to get it back. Thanks for reporting back with a fix .

No worries. Have posted the problem on the main Alex thread, but no comments on it. Also have emailed the Dev, so hopefully it can be resolved soon.

backup your data, and do factory reset maybe it can help to restore the control widget
