PAN and access to internet

I've Make a Personal Area Network and it has been hard..for me. I've used Bluesoleil bluetooth stacks (PDA) and Widcomm 4.0.1.700 for USB Bluetooth (PC). Using resco explorer i can browse and use my "lan"...play mp3, video in streaming, open photo...the only thing i can't do is browse the http with internet explorer. I Just want to Use my bluetooth like a wifi-lan, but the only way i have to do so is to use PAN for the file and Connect via bluetooth-com port to activesync to obtain an access to Internet.
Is there a way to directly access internet with the PAN? I really don't want to use activesync for that.
Thanks for all.
Hi Lyka,
I haven't tried the Bluesoleil BT stack on my MDA Compact yet, but I just bought a D-Link DBT-900AP, a so called Bluetooth Access Point with the BT PAN-profile. It costed "only" euro 50, not that expensive.
I can now surf from my PC and laptop via BT, but then I found out that the MDA Compact fails the PAN-option.
Hope to back-up my MDA and try that BT stack from Bluesoleil soon.
Greetings, Ben...

lyka, i manage to connect the PAN in bluesoleil (wdcomm BT in pc) but i cant see any shared file in res explorer (in network). do i have to change some setting under res. or under bluesoleil? HELP PLSSSS thanks
on the pc would have most likely have to make a user matching what your pda identify itself as for it to get access to shared things
total commander is an ok tool to brows networks with
Lyka, it's easy to get internet via PAN...do this:
- go to your windows network adapters and bridge your "local area network adapter" with your "bluetooth network adapter".
- On the widcomm bluetooth configuration icon (located on windows systray) select "configure" -> local services tab -> PAN -> properties. Make shure that you have the option "allow other users to use this connection for internet" selected.
- Connect your PDA to the PAN.
There you go - Internet.
Do note that sometimes (At least on mine), you don't get an IP for the PAN...the trick is to initiate the PAN and then initiate the LAN. Disable the lan after you get an ip. (Check the status icon on the bluesoleil stack so to make shure that you got an ip)
eviltart2, i've some problems with PAN when the phone uses the Blusoleil stack and the pc uses a widcomm stack...sometimes you don't get an IP...check if you're getting one. If not, then initiate the LAN connection and disconnect it afterwards (do note that some bluetooth adapters (old ones) don't support the LAN connection - only pan..)

hi all.. i also tried blusoleil on my jam, but had to uninstall it because it didn't recognize my bt earplug (a plantronics 220) as a valid headset.. it paired the device, but didn't find any services for it.. anyone had the same problem? solutions?
sdalleave, the blusoleil stack doesn't support bt audio adapters (mono or stereo). You need to install the widcomm stack instead of the blusoleil one.

ok, so if i understand correctly, i need the widcomm stack on the jam.. is it reversable like blusoleil or do i need to reset the jam to remove the bt stack if i don't like it? do you have a link to where i can find the widcomm stack?
thanks..

hey keeper (are you the keeper from BF2142 that's in my buddy list??)
i've done some searching on the widcomm stack, but only found threads where they say it's not working on a magician.. is that true? do you have some link to someone who's actually done it?
thanks
I'm sorry for misleading you guys...there's no widcomm support for the magician...what i meant was a modded MS bluetooth stack with A2DP support which is located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=249219&highlight=a2dp+bluetooth
Do note that this stack ain't reversible, but you can install the bluesoleil one and use the "switch bluetooth stack" so to change between the modded one and the bluesoleil one. Also, do note that you need to reboot your PDA so that the stack changes from one to the other.
sdalleave: nah..i'm not that person...

BT PAN and HP nc6400 laptop

Anybody have an HP (Compaq) nc6400 laptop? It has built-in BT but doesn't appear to support PAN. WOuld the best idea be to buy a BT Dongle that does support it adn turn off the built-in one?
Prob is BT Stack
I had an HP NC6200 and the problem is in the BT Stack. Remove the software that came with the HP and install the MS drivers/stack and once the install completes, the option to "Join a Personal Area Network" will be available.
Just an aside....i dont prefer the MS BT Stack but in this case I know it works because my Dell has a Toshiba BT Stack and I had to do the same thing. Widcomm BT Stack is my preference.
Brad
OK, thanks for your help. Will give it a go. i guess the MS drivers are available on the MS site?
uninstalled the HP bt software but not sure where to find or how to install the MS stack?
OK, I've given up on the in-built BT. Got a BT USB dongle and Blue Soleil. Now PAN works and I can use my Hermes as a 3G modem.
good so far....
but how do you get ActiveSync to work over BT? Is it possible?
It would be much cheaper and easier just to download/buy Bluesoleil software from IVT - it works with all dongles, also with BT device you have inside your HP laptop.
yeah - it works with my dongle but not with the inbuilt device.
How do i get ActiveSync to work over BT?
If you disconnect the new dongle and install fresh demo from IVT website, Bluesoleil and then activate the built-in BT, it will work. Until you will buy license, there will be 5MB data limit.
I use BlueSoleil it with my built-in dongle from HP (nc6000).
ActiveSync is possible using virtual COM port on Bluetooth. There is sometimes ActiveSync service in some Bluetooth stacks, but I think IVT doesn't support it. If you want to use BT directly, you might need to switch to MS Bluetooth or Widcomm stack. Don't ask me how - never used MS stack.
BTW: there should be update for your Widcomm stack for your laptop - I think Bluetooth PAN is now standard (but painful to use with Widcomm).
When I try this the HP Wireless assistant takes over and BlueSoleil says "please insert your BT device".
Post moved.
Please click the following link to find out why.

OK, no probs. I put it in Hermes WM6 because of the requirement for Internet Sharing after I upgraded to WM6 and therefore needed PAN but I accept that it is more of a general issue

Bluetooth PAN client

I've got desktop PC with Linux and bluetooth but without WiFi so I am using BT PAN network access point service on the desktop PC and BT PAN client on my notebook to connect wireless when at home. Both are BT 2.0+EDR so the speed is about 3.0Mbps.
I've got Hermes with WM6 5.2.1933 and MS BT stack.
Is there a way I can connect to Internet over BT PAN?
I know there is some bluetooth PAN support as it can be used in Internet sharing but I haven't figured out how to connect to existing BT PAN network.
Any advice?
it's not for linux but you should read this one
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=InternetOverBluetoothNetwork
Thank you, it looks promising, I was able to find my bluetooth PAN interface and setup IP and DNS for it but I am unable to find any "Join a personal network" button in my bluetooth settings.
Where can I find the damn button?
OK, so just to close the topic...
the problem is in MS bluetooth stack which doesn't support bluetooth PAN client profile. The only solution for now is to install cracked Widcomm bluetooth stack on devices which originally came with the MS one. The project for this can be found on XDA wiki.
Current status for the Hermes (my sweety) is that you can make it work, can have BT PAN client but some other things doesn't work correctly (bt on/off in comm manager, bt audio profile doesn't work very well, ...).
What bout use WM6 with Internet haring Feature, that's all the stuff related to sharing internet using Bluetooth.
Regards,
Taguapire.
Internet Connection Sharing is the other way around: you can use your WM6 device as a PAN access point, and the PC (e.g. a notebook) is the PAN client.
KOPRajs, you can use ActiveSync over Bluetooth. On the PC you need SynCE (http://www.synce.org/). The wiki there is currently under construction, and I can't find anything about Bluetooth now, but there's a Howto for Ubuntu over at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=50932 .
Thx, I have actually SynCE working (even over bluetooth) but I was unable to set up MS proxy (or whatever it is) so even when it's connected, apps on the phone do not know about active connection and tries to dial up a GPRS instead of using Active Sync connection.
And more, the whole SynCE thing is highly unstable yet so that's why would be nice to use BT PAN client.

[Q] How do I use the Fuze as a bluetooth interface on my PC laptop?

I have a laptop without a bluetooth interface, and I'd like to hook up my Fuze to it so that the PC can use my Fuze as a bluetooth interface to connect to other bluetooth devices (say, printer, or handsfree set). Any clues?

[Q] Exist any solution to connect to a wired 10/100Base-T LAN via BT or USB with SGS2

I need a solution to connect to a wired 10/100Base-T Ethernet with my SGS2 via Bluetooth or microUSB. There is no WLAN anywhere and i need to connect to the LAN. I need a simple wired-ethernet connection to configure LAN-Devices via Telnet App. I need a mobile device powered by a battery and Android-compatible for use with a Telnet Application.
thanks
Marc
