Hi,
Have been thinking about getting a mini usb keyboard for TG01 as it's easier to send a long email if I can't use my PC, but the thing is I can probably only buy one off ebay and I don't want to buy it if it doesnt work (tried one before and never worked) so could anyone recommend a mini keyboard that would definitely work or give some advice on what to look out for? Unlike optical mice, I don't think corded keyboards consume much power do they, if any?
Cheers

In fact, you can use ANY standard USB keyboard for PC.
Today I have a wonderful mini bluetooth keyboard, but before it I had a flexible silicone keyboard like this:

You can buy it on Ebay (low price). I'ts rollable, so you can carry it in your pocket!
Have fun
Hey that looks really cool, will look out for one of those. Don't fancy bluetooth as it will consume power so prefer something that plugs in. Thanks for your response.
A USB keyboard also draws power.
I'm not entirely sure which would yield the most drain on the phone - for bluetooth, the bluetooth radio must be enabled, but USB, the USB host feature must be enabled, and the keyboard itself must be powered.
Two advantages to bluetooth - 1) you're not putting ANY more drain onto the phone's pathetic excuse for a battery. 2) the USB port is then free for charging when (and it certainly is WHEN) the battery goes flat!

Damn, i didn't think of this. Thanks for telling me. Unfortunately, I've already bought the keyboard lol. Perhaps I could buy a usb splitter adapter thing if they exist? That way I could keep the phone charged at the same time. Thanks very much for your comment.

I'll just have to use it for writing long emails. Ideally, I wanted it for IMing Maybe I could resell it one day and get a bluetoother. Cheers for your replies.

I use a usb keyboard with the TG01 every day of the week. I used to keep swapping out the usb cable - one to power it - and then the micro to usb attached to usb keyboard - for emails. However, can't charge the phone anymore (obviously theres some issue with the micro usb port...not worth fixing as out of warranty). However, using an external charger and 2 x batteries. I just keep rotating the batteries -and this works out fine. Can use usb keyboard this way without issue (although I always plug it out the moment I am finished writing a mail).

Now that 2.1 is has been unleashed (UNofficially) it has brought the desk clock app with it. So I am pretty sure by the title you know what I am asking for, A DOCK!!! Incase anyone wants to order a Dock to take pictures of.
I actually just bought one like the first one in your list there, but from Ebay...$21 shipped. The wife's birthday is next month and I think she'd like it for her desk at work for Pandora, which her network guys have blocked. So her phone is the only way she can still get it at work. So I haven't actually got it yet, but it should be here soon enough. I'll post up once I get it.
Cheap seagate dock
Well here's my solution. I have several seagate freeagent drives and didnt want to clutter up the desk with multiple docks so I just modded the seagate dock to work with my eris. Just a simple cut in the front of the base and it works just fine. You can find them for as low as $12. I would like the extra battery charger on the other dock referenced above but like I said this works for both my eris and my seagate drives still.

Is that a sync cable, or just a charging cable? The one I got off Ebay does both, that is you can plug two separate cables into the back and it comes with an AC adapter.

BTW I have an otterbox case on mine so i went in the bottom panel and cut the plastic for the usb mount a bit to raise it in the dock so it would connect correctly with my case but it connects just fine to an uncased eris with no adjustment.
Ok, the cradle I ordered off Ebay showed up yesterday, but I had to wait until the wife went to bed to take pics of it, since I'm giving it to her for her birthday. Here's a pic of it with the phone in the cradle and a spare battery charging in the dock as well.
Not a bad piece for the measly 20 bucks shipped. I think she'll like it for her desk at work. It has a mini USB input and also an ac wall charger adapter. I like it.
Ooooh nice! I may have to end up getting one of those.

@Darth
Actually I should amend that. I use my "modified one" everyday. As I showed in my photos I trimmed out a U section in the front so the eris will slide down onto the dock properly. This way it works with my eris as well as my seagate drives.
I like all these dock ideas, but since I use my phone as my iPod now it would be nice if there was one out there that used HTC's special USB port to send audio out through this dock. Anyone seen one of those?
The one I posted pics of early in the thread does. $20 bucks shipped from Fleabay.

I have the exact same dock you posted pics of earlier. How did you get it to pump audio out through the mini-usb? There is no audio output on the dock itself ,besides the top of the Eris anyway.

Well, there are two outputs on the back of the cradle, one is for A/C charging only, and one is for USB connection to your PC. Use the USB and connect it to your PC. Tell the phone to "mount as disk drive". You can then use Windows Media Player or whatever media player you're using to read your music off the drive.
Sorry, need 2 more
these all look like good options but i just got bored on day and just made one in my shop out of wood and some black paint it looks very nice and it cost me nothing

my phq works fine with usb-otg adapter, i can read some usb flash disk that i have.
but as far as i know, when usb-otg adapter connected, the phone will give voltage/power to the USB device.
at this point i have doubt about phq + the multimedia dock.
reason being is the dock provide USB connection and at the same time (I assume) it provide charging power to the phone.
this is conflicting as if the USB port means to connect to other devices (keyboard/mouse) as USB-OTG, then at the same time phone try to give power + get power from the charger. this may damage the phone.
but i may be wrong as i don't have the dock.
the dock mentioned by the OP is quite cheap on [email protected], i think i'll grab one. thx for sharing

Hi!
I thought so myself. After buying one from ebay I can say it dose NOT fit. First: the hdmi pin on the dock is turned by 180 degrees.
After fixing that by removeing the complete hdmi pin from dock I could test the fit. The Q is to large for the dock. It will fit uneaven if tried with serious force. I did not want to damage the usb port on my q for a worse 'fitting' dock...

I know its been over a half a year since you asked and no one replied but I figured maybe you would still appreciate a response. There seem to be two dock modes: Desk (what you call bedside) and Car. Motorola made an official dock for this phone which put it into car mode however it seemed to have been pretty limitedly available when it was out and is now discontinued; thanks for abandoning us Moto. I cant even seem to find it listed on amazon used which is annoying as I have one I want to sell off (hint hint).
It has a special USB cable that goes with it that has an audio out cable down at the end where it plugs into the car charger so you dont have to plug a headphone cable into your phone to get audio out to your stereo, worked quite well when my phone was still alive.
I also have one of these droid 3 desk docks mentioned here that I need to find a good home for now.

A good powered hub is near a must for a device like the NP as there are so many uses for peripherals: hard drives, keyboards, mice, USB keys, Flirc IR controller, usb ethernet, etc. I highly suggest getting a decent powered hub with a lot of ports and a good track record. Monoprice sells a pretty good powered 7 port unit that has great reviews (I have four all over my home) and is relatively cheap:
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=103&cp_id=10307&cs_id=1030702&p_id=5328&seq=1&format=2
The hub you were looking at above is limited to 3 ports and doesn't come with an a/c adapter. I'd look elsewhere, imho.
So far I have had good results with a bus powered hub. Granted, it's not going to work for a bus powered power hungry accessory, such as an external hard drive. But it powers my wireless dongle for my F710 and a USB flash drive just fine.
I've noticed my Logitech K400 had some pretty bad range issues when the receiver was connected directly to an OTG cable, but when I use a powered hub it's working great. So, it may be worth considering, if you notice any problems with an unpowered setup.
Just want to update. This cord works fine
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B4GGW5Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have this one and it works great. I broke my rightangled one trying to force it to fit with the hdmi plugged in...glad they are not expensive.
I bought my right angled USB OTG before I got the unit and also had some trouble getting it in there. The problem was that the power cord was in the way. I resolve it by simply plugging the USB OTG in first and then inserting the power cord.

You are lucky because yours bends towards the power cord and not the HDMI cable like mine did...there was no way of having both installed at the same time.

I am curious if those ports will work as OTG hosts. That would be quite useful, but I'm not willing to pay $4o to test it myself lol

I preordered one for the card slots as the only flash media i buy is in microsd format.
It says it should ship in december, I'll post results here when I receive it.
I messaged Benson Leung on Google+, asking him if he recommended any USB OTG hosts. He said that OTG does not exist anymore with Type C. He recommended that I get this cable: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VTZ7GM0
Hopefully that hub meets the Type C spec, since it seems that 90% of cables and adapters don't.
That cable looks identical to the one I received from google in the UK, purchased from google with the tab.

Just to let you guys know:
I contacted Benson Leung and asked him about USB-C hubs for the Pixel C and he said he has one on its way and will review it shortly.
Ok, I received it. I tried powering the PixelC and it works but not at the same speed as the same charger connected directly. I estimate about 1-1.2A
I connected microsd card and it seems to work fine. Not tried using the usb type A ports yet.
My main issue is that it the position and size make it feel quite delicate. It is in the exact place I hold my pixel C and the length makes it feel like a lever on the port. I tried adding a small tab to brace it against the tablet at the other end but that feels no better. I would prefer it connect with a short cable.
I might use it in extreme cases, when wireless is not an option such as on flights, but the aesthetics and the power compliance issue make it hard to recommend.
Does this Hub really work on the Pixel C ? I mean, can i use a USB Ethernet Adapter, or a USB Stick while charging the Pixel ?

Thanks a lot. Do you possibly have a USB A to ethernet you could try it with? I'm curious to see if it'd work.
Could it be an idea to use it with a USB C extension cable, something like this?

I have a USB3 3 port hub with ethernet (an Anker AH212). I get ethernet connectivity just fine, although I don't see any options for configuration, so you're stuck with DHCP.
Nice idea on the extension cable, I was hoping one would appear. I wonder if Benson Leung has tested any.
Skally could you please elaborate on that? Do you know the exact Name of the Hub you have? (mby even with Link) would love to get my hands on that!
Anyone have pictures of this thing on your Pi-C?
This:

It might be the thing we are after with a short extension cable. Its just super pricey, and only the two most expensive versions have the charge pass through at $60 and $70 USD.
Has anyone used any accessories from HooToo and can remark on the quality?
Well I went ahead and ordered the cheapest mode. It has 3 USB3 and the SD card reader for $35. That gives me what I need on the road, and should give me some impression of the build quality and compatibility with the C. Should have it next Tuesday.

did ypou receive it already? how is it?
The usb-c is a bit loose... have to really press it in to get a confident fit. I did get it to read an SD card, this was my most needed feature. Have not yet tested the USB ports. I feel that for the price it could be better.

I have one of these. I've yet to use it extensively but can confirm that the USB ports work (4Gb stick used so far) but haven't tried them along with pass-through charging (though this works independently). Build quality seems pretty reasonable but a lot of money seems to have been spent on the presentation/packaging, a little Apple, with sculpted box and foam holding the hub.
Hi,
I've recently received a Pixel C as a replacement for an older tablet which insurance paid for (Thankfully).
Before I seen this thread I got one of the Satechi Passthrough hubs pictured at the start.
I havent had a huge play with it, But soo far I would say I'm fairly happy with it. it feels a little loose but thats not an issue when being used with the magnetic keyboard (So I dont touch the tablet)
Best bit about it tho, if you connect a mouse you basicly have a full laptop!!
I'm stoaked.

Does that mean it charges the Pixel C as well?

It might be the thing we are after with a short extension cable. Its just super pricey, and only the two most expensive versions have the charge pass through at $60 and $70 USD.
Has anyone used any accessories from HooToo and can remark on the quality?

This works as advertised, though I couldn't check the HDMI. Only one problem: the external power doesn't seem to reach the Pixel C, which makes it kind of useless to me. Not sure where the problem is.
I have an SM T290 tab A. Is there a specific OTG cable that I can use? Has anyone had any success?

I know it gets to where you're pulling your hair out in frustration, but.... someone on XDA has nudged me in a new direction and helped, always friendly, and ALWAYS FREE. I had the same problem with cables, I thought anyway. I'm enclosing a pic of the OTG adapter that worked for me, and with every cable and thumb drive, etc. It says SAMSUNG, its just hard to read. Hope this helps Scampo.

can you attach a thumb drive to your tablet and watch a movie on it while charging at the same time?

What I did instead was to connect a small powered USB hub and connected my thumb drive to the hub. That way you reduce the power draw on your tablet and can run a wireless USB mouse with your thumb drive. (And yes, I watched movies that way). Hope it helps.

Here is the cheapo I've been using bought off eBay for like $1.50
Thank you but I need to charge while the thumb drive is attached and I need to be able to do this 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

On amazon you can get an adapter which gives you 3 X usb 2.0 (thumb drive) input plus one usb-a micro (usb 2 charger) input. Mine has a switch between OTG and charge, but if I keep charger in during OTG, it supplies power to thumb drives, and the battery supply barely gets touched.

This is an automotive install and I've tried all of these options and none work. These tablets and fiberglassed into the dash and need to be charging all day. Then a female USB mounted in the dash to transfer data via a thumb drive.

You'd think that anything installed into the dash like that would run on the car battery. I just use mine for development, which means nothing more than saving / loading text files. I am able to leave it on charge and just flip the switch for 30 seconds or so at a time to access the thumb drive. What about the usb to sd card readers? Same result, I suppose?

Yes, same result. This was a headache when I started this 10 years ago with the Nexus 7. But someone came out with a specific automotive installation where the tablet would turn on and of with the key and it would charge with a thumb drive attached and it worked beautiful until it fell out of service.
After a year of working on this problem I found a charger made by a company called lava. The charger is about $100 and it does charging while having usb support. The charger is worth more than the tablet but I didn't have a choice.

I know it’s been a bit since this post, but curious if the lavalabs adapter you mentioned worked with your sm t290 ? And if so, which adapter model was it? Trying to figure out the same thing, they are pricey but need to figure this out thanks ++
