Looks useful with the limited storage available on the PixelC

I am curious if those ports will work as OTG hosts. That would be quite useful, but I'm not willing to pay $4o to test it myself lol

I preordered one for the card slots as the only flash media i buy is in microsd format.
It says it should ship in december, I'll post results here when I receive it.

I messaged Benson Leung on Google+, asking him if he recommended any USB OTG hosts. He said that OTG does not exist anymore with Type C. He recommended that I get this cable: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VTZ7GM0
Hopefully that hub meets the Type C spec, since it seems that 90% of cables and adapters don't.

That cable looks identical to the one I received from google in the UK, purchased from google with the tab.

I would love to know if this guy works. That would be awesome.

Just to let you guys know:
I contacted Benson Leung and asked him about USB-C hubs for the Pixel C and he said he has one on its way and will review it shortly.

Ok, I received it. I tried powering the PixelC and it works but not at the same speed as the same charger connected directly. I estimate about 1-1.2A
I connected microsd card and it seems to work fine. Not tried using the usb type A ports yet.
My main issue is that it the position and size make it feel quite delicate. It is in the exact place I hold my pixel C and the length makes it feel like a lever on the port. I tried adding a small tab to brace it against the tablet at the other end but that feels no better. I would prefer it connect with a short cable.
I might use it in extreme cases, when wireless is not an option such as on flights, but the aesthetics and the power compliance issue make it hard to recommend.

Does this Hub really work on the Pixel C ? I mean, can i use a USB Ethernet Adapter, or a USB Stick while charging the Pixel ?

Thanks a lot. Do you possibly have a USB A to ethernet you could try it with? I'm curious to see if it'd work.
Could it be an idea to use it with a USB C extension cable, something like this?

I have a USB3 3 port hub with ethernet (an Anker AH212). I get ethernet connectivity just fine, although I don't see any options for configuration, so you're stuck with DHCP.
Nice idea on the extension cable, I was hoping one would appear. I wonder if Benson Leung has tested any.

Skally could you please elaborate on that? Do you know the exact Name of the Hub you have? (mby even with Link) would love to get my hands on that!

Anyone have pictures of this thing on your Pi-C?

This:

It might be the thing we are after with a short extension cable. Its just super pricey, and only the two most expensive versions have the charge pass through at $60 and $70 USD.
Has anyone used any accessories from HooToo and can remark on the quality?

Well I went ahead and ordered the cheapest mode. It has 3 USB3 and the SD card reader for $35. That gives me what I need on the road, and should give me some impression of the build quality and compatibility with the C. Should have it next Tuesday.

did ypou receive it already? how is it?

The usb-c is a bit loose... have to really press it in to get a confident fit. I did get it to read an SD card, this was my most needed feature. Have not yet tested the USB ports. I feel that for the price it could be better.

I have one of these. I've yet to use it extensively but can confirm that the USB ports work (4Gb stick used so far) but haven't tried them along with pass-through charging (though this works independently). Build quality seems pretty reasonable but a lot of money seems to have been spent on the presentation/packaging, a little Apple, with sculpted box and foam holding the hub.

Hi,
I've recently received a Pixel C as a replacement for an older tablet which insurance paid for (Thankfully).
Before I seen this thread I got one of the Satechi Passthrough hubs pictured at the start.
I havent had a huge play with it, But soo far I would say I'm fairly happy with it. it feels a little loose but thats not an issue when being used with the magnetic keyboard (So I dont touch the tablet)
Best bit about it tho, if you connect a mouse you basicly have a full laptop!!
I'm stoaked.

This works as advertised, though I couldn't check the HDMI. Only one problem: the external power doesn't seem to reach the Pixel C, which makes it kind of useless to me. Not sure where the problem is.

Surface Pro - More USB ports

Hey guys, I just got my Surface Pro yesterday to replace my old HP Pavilion laptop which was really slow and has its fair share of problems. The one gripe I have with the Surface Pro is its lack of ports.
I want to be able to plug in a mouse and at least on USB drive but a singular USB 3.0 port just isn't going to cut it. So my question is, does anyone have an idea or know of anything that will allow me to plug in both a mouse and a usb stick? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
p.s I am aware of the docking station but its price point is a bit ridiculous. I just want a cheap alternative that won't detract from the design too much as there is a case but it's added size is very unreasonable.
The device you are looking for is incredibly common and so common that you can walk into walmart and have a whole selection of them available. USB Hub. Surprised you havent come across one before.

Depending on the number of ports and whether it is mains or bus powered they can be pretty cheap.

Thanks heaps for the reply. I was actually thinking of these but I wasn't sure if they would work correctly. I'm not very familiar with USB 3.0 and what it can and can't do. I just need a USB hub that has a USB 3.0 upstream and at least 2 USB 2.0 downstreams so I can still plug in my mouse and hardrive and all those other things that have a USB 2.0 upstream. I was looking at these in particular and was wondering if they were 4 USB 3.0 ports or if it was a 3.0 male connector and 4 USB 2.0 female connectors.

Both of the devices you linked claim to be USB3.0 downstream, so would indeed convert 1 USB3.0 slot on the surface to 4 USB3.0 slots, in theory anyway.
Of course in reality, you are sharing 1 ports bandwidth among 4, but for a mouse and a memory stick this is not a problem at all. I've run mouse, keyboard, xbox 360 controller and an external hard drive from a USB2.0 hub without issue, you get the massively faster USB3.0

Thanks heaps for that. I just realised that I can plug in a USB 2.0 into the 3.0 port. Sorry for sounding like an idiot but it's just my first device with a 3.0 port.
So now I guess my only question would be whether or not having a switch on each port would make a difference vs no switch?

not particularly, if it is a hub with switched ports you could save some battery but alot of hubs are autoswitching anyway and the difference isnt significant.
I use a bluetooth mouse with my surface pro. It connects directly to the bluetooth in the Surface, without anything plugged into the usb port. I find this very convenient and it leaves the usb port open for whatever else. I use the Microsoft bluetooth mouse 5000.

I have a USB3 hub, a inateck round hub, makes for easy plugging in various items and is powered, so not using battery up. Jim
Thanks heaps for the responses guys.
I was thinking of using one of the powered ones or the ones with switches so extra battery consumption is kept to a minimum. I have a bluetooth gaming mouse that i'm going to use but will end up getting a USB hub just so I can still have a memory stick plugged in if I need it.
I find that *in most cases* the load on the tablet battery is fairly low and doesnt warrant the extra fuss of a powered USB hub versus a bus powered hub. However, if you do decide to go with a self powered one, find that uses a usb style connector instead of a proprietary power connector. Then you can just use a regular usb cable to power the hub off of the surface's usb charging port on the power cord "brick". That eliminates the need to carry two power supplies with you.
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk
The main advantage of a powered (vs. host-powered) hub isn't the battery life impact, but rather the limit on how much energy the host port can provide. Things like keyboards take almost nothing. Things like mice take a bit, but not too much. Things like external HDDs take a lot. Things like charging a phone or other device may take all the power the port can provide. Using a powered hub lets you connect several such devices (for example, your phone and your hard disk, in addition to your mouse and keyboard) without worrying that there won't be enough power for them.
Agreed. Its a question of amperage. Anything I connect to my Surface Pro has minimal power draw, such as a card reader or usb drive. If Im going to charge my phone (which draqs 2amps) I just connect it to handy chargung port on the AC adapter. All my other accessories (mouse and gps antenna) are bluetooth so they are not part of the equation. Im not debating anything above, but just offering the OP that you should consider your power needs and then you can decide if you need a powered hub or not.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Officially you can draw 1.2A from a usb3 socket, reality is that you probably won't from my the surface. Mouse, keyboard and thumbdrive combined should be under 0.1A, 0.2 at the most. Not a massive impact on battery so I wouldn't be concerned.

Inateck USB 3 Hub with USB OTG

Hi all,
Im trying to get into tech blogging and reviewing stuff, so I thought I'd kick it off with a review of a USB hub, something people take for granted and no one ever seems to review! so here goes, im going to share with you mt thoughts on my new toy! Any feedback on my review would be greatly appreciated.
Just as a note, I dont work for Inatech, I work for a Pharmaceutical company and just enjoy technology
As an Update I've just spotted on their website there is an off on at the moment for back to school or something so there are voucher codes for some products including the USB hub
http://www.inateck.com/back-to-school/
Testing out a new toy, USB3 four port hub with USB OTG for mobile.
I'll be testing it on my PC which has 2 USB3 ports (Asus P8P67 Deluxe motherboard) and on my trusty Samsung Galaxy S4.
Unboxing and device overview
The hub arrived from Amazon, well packaged, no instructions, just the hub and a Returns and Exchanges piece of paper listing the companies policies.

Taking the hub out I was actually surprised with how well made and solid it felt, i've previously only had cheap USB hub so this is my first proper one. The housing feels like a thick plastic and around the top 3 USB ports there is what feels like brushed aluminium adding to the premium feel. There is a forth USB port on the other end of the hub making this a 4 port USB3 hub.
The cable that comes with it is 12 inches long, as the company says on their website, this is intended for phones and ultrabooks not for down the back of a PC, but feel free to use a USB 3 extension lead to use it with a PC. At the end of the USB3 lead is a little USB OTG adaptor which is attached to the main usb lead with a length of thin plastic which is formed from the outer housing of the USB OTG connector. Not sure how long this will last and keep the OTG adapter attached, felt like if you gave it a bit of abuse eventually it would wear out.
Overall if feels quite premium and solid. Let get onto the testing!
Testing
Ok everyone case most about android devices here so i'll do that first and the PC testing as an after thought!
Testing on the Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9505), plugging it in, it detected it as a "USB Connector" no problem. Ok lets plug some stuff in and see how far I can push the poor phone!
First up a Transcend USB3 stick, connected no problem . To test the speed I used A1 SD Benchmark from the play store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a1dev.sdbench&hl=en
On my PC the device (Tested with USBdeview) gets write speed of about 90mb/s and read or 18mb/s. On the phone it gets read 26mb/s and write 18mb/s, so a bit slower than plugged into PC but the Galaxy S4 doesnt support USB OTG ad USB3 speeds so its as expected. Just to check that the Inateck hub isnt slowing things down lets test it with my normal USB OTG adaptor, the results - exactly the same speed. So the hub isnt slowing things down.
Lets try 2 USB sticks Since im poor I can only afford 1 USB3 pendrive so the others are usb2. I have an OCZ Rally 2 4GB and a Texet 2GB, lets plug them all in and see if the phone can handle storage overload! 3 USB sticks plugged in and the power hasnt given up, all 3 are lit up and ES File explorer detects them as USBDriveA, B and C no problems on each.
Lets push my luck and try a forth! again no problem, 4 usb devices attached to the unpowered hub and its not a problem! Tapping the unmount option from the notification bar will unmount ALL the usb drives at once, tad annoying but its a Samsung thing and seeing as I wasnt expecting the phone to be able to power 4 devices at once im happy!
Final test I have for this poor device is keyboard, mouse and USB3 drive copying files all going at once. The benchmark app wouldnt let me multi-task and write an email while benchmarking so i just moved the mouse around a lot but it didnt affect the transfer speeds during the test. The keyboard, mouse and usb pen drive all worked no problem when plugged in.
Ok so thats how well the hub performs on an android device, im pretty pleased so far, i feel like i really pushed it and it was fine, but so far its no different to the cheap hub i bought on ebay that comes apart quite easily. The real thing with this is the USB3 functionality so lets plug it into a USB3 port already and see how well it performs at speed!
Ok plugging in the device, Windows 7 detected it no problem.
It worked fine in a USB 2 port or a USB 3 port.
Again the same pendrive, lets test the speed. Plugged directly into the PC I get Read 18mb/s and write 90mb/s on my Transcend drive.
So thats all good, lets see how it performs through the hub. As you can see from the pictures above the hub doesnt slow things down when using 1 port.
The only other USB3 Devices I have are a 3TB hard drive so lets speed test then with and without the hub and see if the hub is going to slow things down. When using my 3TB hard drive and the USB Pen drive the results were similar to using a single device, no slow down (i dont want to flood this thread with screen shots)
The results look pretty nice, no slowdown with or without the usb hub even when I pushed things speed testing.
Overall Im actually quite pleased with this little device and it will replace my Cheap USB hub im using at the moment.
Hope everyone found this useful!
Heres the link to their website, i got mine from Amazon UK.

A good powered hub is near a must for a device like the NP as there are so many uses for peripherals: hard drives, keyboards, mice, USB keys, Flirc IR controller, usb ethernet, etc. I highly suggest getting a decent powered hub with a lot of ports and a good track record. Monoprice sells a pretty good powered 7 port unit that has great reviews (I have four all over my home) and is relatively cheap:
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=103&cp_id=10307&cs_id=1030702&p_id=5328&seq=1&format=2
The hub you were looking at above is limited to 3 ports and doesn't come with an a/c adapter. I'd look elsewhere, imho.
So far I have had good results with a bus powered hub. Granted, it's not going to work for a bus powered power hungry accessory, such as an external hard drive. But it powers my wireless dongle for my F710 and a USB flash drive just fine.
I've noticed my Logitech K400 had some pretty bad range issues when the receiver was connected directly to an OTG cable, but when I use a powered hub it's working great. So, it may be worth considering, if you notice any problems with an unpowered setup.
Just want to update. This cord works fine
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B4GGW5Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have this one and it works great. I broke my rightangled one trying to force it to fit with the hdmi plugged in...glad they are not expensive.
I bought my right angled USB OTG before I got the unit and also had some trouble getting it in there. The problem was that the power cord was in the way. I resolve it by simply plugging the USB OTG in first and then inserting the power cord.

You are lucky because yours bends towards the power cord and not the HDMI cable like mine did...there was no way of having both installed at the same time.

Usb Type C to micro usb with Seek Thermal Camera?

I just bought a Seek Thermal Camera for my Galaxy S6, and planning to get a Nexus 6P, can the usb type c to micro usb adapter works?
I had to look up what the hell this is supposed to do.
So, for the uninitiated, it's a thermal imaging usb plugin for your phone.
Here are some use cases:
At Work
Contractors to find water damage, air leaks, missing insulation and other inefficiencies
Plumbers to detect water leaks and clogs
Electricians to identify electrical shorts, loose wiring and other safety hazards
HVAC professionals to assess areas of poor performance and check equipment status
Home Inspectors to identify and document potential issues with a house before purchase
Insurance Adjustors to thoroughly investigate losses and damage
Outdoors
Hunters can track game, scout terrain, and locate downed animals
Hikers and campers can navigate in the darkness and scan around a campsite for predators
Campers will be sure the campfire is completely out
Boaters can detect objects on the water at night
Pet owners can find pets at night or scan the backyard to make sure it is safe for their pets
At Home / DIY
Trace water damage up a wall or across a ceiling to its source
Discover energy inefficiencies such as missing insulation and air leaks around windows and doors
Identify the location of clogs in pipes
Detect electrical shorts, loose wiring, and other safety hazards
Confirm even tire wear on vehicles
Measure the heat distribution across the BBQ grill and the level of propane left in the tank

I read on some of the adapter posts that they are working for charging but maybe not for data. I don't have my phone yet so I can't test the techmatte ones I received, but I will see if it works for data as well as charging when I get my phone.

Cool. Thanks
I have just tryed seek thermal on One Plus Two. Type C adapter doesn't work for this camera. such a disappointment
Just tried my Seek Thermal with my Nexus 6P using the TechMatte Type-C to Micro-USB adapter (Beson-Leung-approved update) and it doesn't work. Camera doesn't power up, app can't see it. Too bad! (Even more too bad since USB-C lets me plug the camera into the phone the right way, unlike my Nexus 5.)
Hi,
I also have a seek thermal camera. And a Nexus 5x.
I have tried at least 2 adapters from eBay, got one in the mail today and it didn't work. Have 2 more on the way.
All of them claim they are OTG compatible.
EDIT:
I found a solution! On Seek Thermals homapage! Im not allowed to post links, but you will find it here:
-Go to Support
-Under "Promoted articles", choose "USB Adapters For Seek Compact"
-There are 3 links, choose USB-C adapters
They sell it on Amazon.
Im ordering right now! They also have a 180* adapter, that will fix the wrong way facing camera on my Nexus 5.
So, how its going? Is it work with that adapter?
Havent recieved it yet. Ordered it from amazone, to my sisters adress in New York, she is coming home to Norway 18. december.
So then i will be able to test it. But it should work when they say so on they're homepage.
Mine works fine.

Yep, the adapter linked at their site works great on my Nexus 5x
I was just able to get the seek thermal camera t work with my OP2. Go to settings/storage and turn on OTG. Then use the OP2 USB c to micro adapter. I was pretty disappointed at first but with a bit of tinkering got it to work!
This Meenova MicroUSB to Type-C OTG adapter is an option for Thermal Camera. http://www.amazon.com/Type-C-MicroUSB-Female-Adapter-Gray/dp/B018G6IK7E/ref=sr_1_7?m=A3UZZ0M53CX865&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1453387622&sr=1-7

You need this original OnePlus two type-c adapter. Remember to go to settings/storage and turn on OTG. http://www.amazon.com/Original-Oneplus-Type-c-Adapter-Invoice/dp/B01537B8IM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1453387959&sr=8-6&keywords=oneplus+type-c
slightly off topic, but how would you guys rate these little cameras? Seems like a cool little toy/tool. Does it work well? What about longer ranges while outdoors?

Hi,
I also have the nexus 5x and it is not possible to make it work, i have the same USB C OTG adaptor that is in the picture and i even bought the one from OnePlus, and does not work neither.
Did you change any configuration in the phone?
It looks to me that the android 6 does not recognice the camera at all
Thanks!

I dont have the phone anymore, but to answer your question, i didn't changed any settings on the phone, its just plug and play with the seek thermal app.
After initially buying a generic adapter, and it not working, I found this page. Ordered the Fanisy adapters from Amazon, an 8 pack. 2 of the 8 did not work, so if you order and have a problem, try more than 1 if you bought a multi-pack. All of the other 6 connected right away when I plugged in the Seek camera, work great, no issues.

Just for informations sake, I am connecting this Seek camera to a Samsung Galaxy S9+, no changes needed. Downloaded app, ran it, no changes, plug and play and everything connected and worked.
Mine too

Hello to all,
The SEEK camera (mine is XR version but that should not matter) works with any micro USB to USB C connector that you have previously tested to be working with an OTG cable (for ex USB memory).
Tested on One+ 5T and application version 1.9.5. that is the last one that does not require to listen to your microphone.... Download this from any other place than google play. And pass through virus/malware scanner.
Also works directly on an XIAOMI Redmi 4X

USB-C to HDMI adaptor

Looking for a quality adaptor to use my Pixel C for presentations... any good experiences someone can recommend? (not looking for big bulky cable, hoping small adaptor)
Sent from my Pixel C using Tapatalk
At the moment the Pixel C does NOT support HDMI-out through the USB-C port. This feature is being worked on, and will (hopefully) come in a future update.
See Reddit AMA a few days ago...
Edit
grrrr, thanks, missed that in the AMA - do we know if this is a Marshmallow or Pixel update needed?
And actually, anyone ever run across an HDMI out, battery powered device you could just cast to? Tempted to rig one up but prefer to buy something.

I'm a bit confused but the way I am reading that AMA thread is that DisplayPort support is coming, not HDMI. HDMI currently works with a few of my older Android devices with a SlimPort MicroUSB adapter. So I would think this support is still possible out-of-the-box? (someone actually asked this question on the AMA and didn't get an answer...)
being able to connect an external display to this bad boy would be nice.....
BUT - With the lack of true multitasking or multi monitor support what would it do besides just mirror the display? If my experiences with the galaxy tab s and HDMI out is any indication, it would basically just mirror with a short lag, not useful for actually using a larger screen for anything other than a projector. i have a couple of nice big display port monitors on my desk and it would be great to hook one up and go but the LAG!!!! That half a second input lag would make it a non starter...
Thoughts?

Wouldn't the lag be related to the USB 2.0 bandwidth?
i suppose, but on my Samsung devices it has felt more like the display mirroring lag on Chromecast. im just going form memory here but now that i think about it, its almost the same. like hdmi out and Chromecast use the same os mirroring.
if that's the case on the pixel, don't even tease me.. just leave it out.

No.
The lag has to do with what standard is beeing used for the mirroring. MHL for example has a much larger lag than slimport, although they are both USB 2.0 based.
So HDMI is being worked on, but has anything been said about VGA?

That is more less the same. What you will be able to do (once they update the firmware accordingly) is to use the USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter that you can buy in the Google Store. From there you should be able to convert to HDMI, DVI or VGA with another adapter.
https://store.google.com/product/usb_type_c_to_displayport_cable
Not to resurrect an old thread, but the USB C to HDMI adapter (https://store.google.com/product/usb_type_c_to_hdmi_adapter) listed on the Google Store says "Enjoy with Pixel C". Did this update to allow HDMI over USB C go out and I missed it? I haven't seen anyone talking about it or anything, so maybe it's just a bug on the Google Store, I'm not sure.
Would be very nice. But for me it is too expensive for buying without knowing if it works ..
I have just had a chat with Google Support about it. They have said that the Pixel C now supports HDMI out via the Google adaptor. I asked about specific software versions that are compatible and I was advised that you could also use a USB-C to DisplayPort adaptor...
I continued to ask about what software version enabled the functionality (as I tested on one of the N beta builds and it didn't work through my cheap eBay adaptor). He asked what version I was running, I said 7.0, Nougat, and he replied saying it will work.
I asked if I could get a refund if it doesn't work and I was advised that I would. This is in the UK, FYI.
I've not got my Pixel C with me, so can't try my HDMI adaptor out right now. I'll give it a go and let you know.
EDIT: Having had a quick noodle through the N-Preview to 7.0.0_r1 changelog I noticed a lot of things relating to HDMI, so I can only presume this was the enabler. I will check functionality and report back
Additional post to confirm that my cheap-o eBay USB-C to HDMI adaptor DOES NOT work with the latest Android Nougat build on the Pixel C NRD91D.
I may purchase one of the USB-C adaptors from the Google Play Store, but am as-yet undecided as £32 is a bit steep IMHO.
Final post following another conversation with Google Support - TL;DR - Pixel C DOES NOT SUPPORT HDMI OUT YET.
Daniel3:12 PM
Thanks for contacting Google Support. My name is Daniel.
Dan Shipman-Toon3:13 PM
Hi Daniel, I have a Google Pixel C running NRD91D 7.0.0, however HDMI out isn't working
Daniel3:13 PM
Ah right, I'm sorry to hear that. Are you trying to connected it to a TV?
Dan Shipman-Toon3:14 PM
To an HDMI PC monitor (1080p compatible)
Daniel3:15 PM
Right and this is from you USB type C on device to HDMI, correct?
Dan Shipman-Toon3:15 PM
Yes, I have a USB-C to HDMI adaptor
Daniel3:16 PM
Thank's. What happens when you connect it? Does anything happen on the screen?
Dan Shipman-Toon3:16 PM
The screen flashes, and then comes up with 'no signal'. On the tablet it comes up with a notification saying 'Supplying power to USB, touch for more options'
Dan Shipman-Toon3:17 PM
When I touch it, it doesn't give me any other option other than 'supply power'
Dan Shipman-Toon3:17 PM
I am a part of the Android Beta program if that makes a difference
Daniel3:18 PM
Right. Are you trying to watch a movie?
Dan Shipman-Toon3:18 PM
I'm just trying to replicate my display at the moment. Ideally I want to be able to use my Pixel C as a portable work machine, deliver presentations and use it as a workstation using Andromium OS
Dan Shipman-Toon3:19 PM
I take it to customer meetings at the moment and it would be good to be able to utilise their HDMI displays to show the presentation
Dan Shipman-Toon3:19 PM
Chromecast isn't an option due to the lack of wireless networks and lack of accessibility to the monitor itself
Daniel3:19 PM
Right, I get you. It would be handy for you to do that. If you don't mind giving me a moment while I look into this for you Dan.
Dan Shipman-Toon3:20 PM
No problem at all, thanks
Daniel3:23 PM
Thank's for holding Dan, I have checked this for you and unfortunately Pixel C does NOT currently support Type-C display adaptors (such as the USB Type-C to HDMI adaptor or USB Type-C DisplayPort cable accessories sold on the Google Store for US & GB customers). The Google product team is aware of this and is working on software fix.
Daniel3:23 PM
I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused Dan.
Dan Shipman-Toon3:24 PM
OK, so to confirm I understand - It doesn't support it YET but will in the future?
Dan Shipman-Toon3:24 PM
Just your website clearly says that the USB-C to HDMI adaptor works with the Pixel C?
Dan Shipman-Toon3:25 PM
https://store.google.com/product/usb_type_c_to_hdmi_adapter 'Enjoy it with Pixel C'
Dan Shipman-Toon3:25 PM
Daniel3:26 PM
Yes, I am confused too Dan. I thought this was something that was available. If you don't mind I'm going to pass this webpage onto our specialist and see what they say. If you don't mind holding a little bit longer?
Dan Shipman-Toon3:26 PM
Yeah, no problem waiting
Daniel3:30 PM
Thank's Dan. I can confirm that this is not compatible. Having read through the web page you provided, it doesn't state that this is specifically for the Pixel C or for a tablet. It is just an accessory for certain device's. It is something that we are aware of and will be making sure this is possible within the foreseeable future.
Daniel3:30 PM
Apologise once again if you felt as though there was some misleading information about that.
Dan Shipman-Toon3:30 PM
I don't really see how I can 'Enjoy it with Pixel C' if it doesn't work! lol
Daniel3:31 PM
Apologise once again if you felt as though there was some misleading information about that.
Dan Shipman-Toon3:32 PM
So, from what you've said, HDMI out is something that is being worked on for the Pixel C?
Daniel3:33 PM
Yes, I don't have much information regarding this but it is something we are aware of and will be working on making this possible.
Daniel3:33 PM
Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Dan Shipman-Toon3:34 PM
Not at the moment, but thanks very much for looking in to it for me
Daniel3:34 PM
It was my pleasure Dan. Thanks for contacting Google! There’s a short survey coming up, we’d love to hear your feedback about our interaction today. Have a great day!
This conversation with Google is similar to every conversation I've had with them.
They may have a script, but they are free to move off it if someone throws real data (e.g. website says...)
In three conversations with them, they have only asked me to reboot once. This was for a problem when my hammerhead repeatedly rebooted after loading a ROM. They asked me to clear cache in recovery and reboot. The problem happened again. They had a hammerhead in the mail by the end of the day.
Every other time, it was a a simple 'We will have a device for you in two days'.

Well, I really hope they keep their word and update the software to enable usb c to display port soon. It's a feature I've been waiting since the tablet came out, and somehow it feels like they've forgotten about it :/
Good that at least they told you they were working on it, although I know it doesn't necessarily mean they are, but let's hope!
While USB-C DisplayPort to HDMI adapters don't currently work (and may never work), the other option is to use a DisplayLink adapter instead. There's now a DisplayLink driver app that you can use on Android 5.0 or higher that you can use with one of their USB to HDMI/VGA adapters. They're the chipset maker behind pretty much any USB 2.0/USB 3.0 type-A adapter or hub, but just make sure their logo is on the box.
