thanks for the info
I though I'd post this in the general Android forum as well since this works in most Android devices.
The developer of Launcher Pro has released an alpha version of a music player which is functionally and visually similar to the Zune and WP7 music player. Personally I really like this app. Visually it's the best looking music player on Android.
You can follow the developer on twitter here, where he posts updates on the app as well as links to the latest release: https://twitter.com/#!/fedecarnales
I've found information on the app, download like as well as a how-to install it here:
http://www.stuff-review.com/2011-05/zune-and-windows-phone-7-styled-music-player-for-android/
Tip: make sure you have 'unknown sources' check before you open the file.
The current version is Alpha3 with changelog:
Fixed some out-of-memory FCs related to album artwork and artist backgrounds.
Fixed a FC when "shuffle all" was pressed before having played any songs.
Fixed the previous song's album art showing in Now Playing when no artwork is found for the current song.
Fixed a visual glitch for album art in the Now Playing screen on Honeycomb.
Enabled vertical scrolling in Now Playing (portrait mode) for low resolution devices devices like HTC Wildfire.
Modified status bar notification layout to include album art of the currently playing song.
Added menu item to go back to Library from the Now Playing screen (Menu > Library)
Added menu item to open the Now Playing screen from any other screen (Menu > Now Playing)
In the Now Playing screen, clicking on the artist name will take you to that artist's screen. Same with album name.
Disabled artist background downloading when roaming, and data roaming is disabled on your phone.
You can now long-press any song/artist/album/playlist/genre to add it to the current play queue.
Added compatibility for scrobbling with the Last.fm app
Added a Settings screen (in the main "Music" screen press Menu > Settings)
Added support for controlling playback with your headset. You can disable this in the settings.
Added option to download artist backgrounds only when connected to Wi-Fi to avoid data charges.
Added option to change the UI accents color (default is blue).
Added a provisional icon to the app.
Hope you enjoy!!!
p.s.: as of Alpha3 this app now has an auto-expire, probably to make sure you have the latest version.
Alpha 4 is out:

instructions as above.
Change log
Alpha 4
Fixed a bug that caused the app to fail to restore the shuffle setting when restarted.
Added a 4x1 Widget with album art, song info, and playback controls
You can now long-press any song/artist/album/playlist/genre to add it to a playlist. You can also create a new playlist by choosing "New" instead of an existing playlist.
Added a new "Folders" tab that lists any folders that contain music from your library. Clicking on a folder name will open a list of the songs in that folder.
Added a new option in the Settings screen to choose which tabs to show in the main "Music" screen.
Added a new option to show/hide album art in the "Now Playing" screen..
Alpha 5 is out, fixing some of the issues people have had with the widget and playlists.
Changelog:
Fixed startup force close that happened on some HTC phones.
Made the entire widget clickable, so that clicking anywhere (outside the play/pause/next buttons) will open the app.
Added the ability to delete playlists by long-pressing on a playlist and choosing "Delete".
Added an option to set the default tab to show when the application is started.
New option to use a custom status bar instead of the system status bar. Touch it to reveal more info (battery charge, Wifi status, signal strength, data connection). Swipe it down to open the notifications panel. Please note that due to limitations in the Android system, it's not possible to show notifications in the custom status bar or customize the notifications panel.

Added a menu item on the Now Playing screen to go to Settings.

Thanks. Do you know if there are any compatibility issues w/ ICS? I haven't re-installed the app since I started flashing early ICS E4GT builds.
I'm wondering if tasker (or other program) can not only launch an app, but also perform actions within that app such as opening the music player and choosing a specific song or toggling settings such as shuffle/repeat.
thanks much
I need some help since i could not seem to define the default app for playing sound file under slim launcher. Whenever i try to open a .m4a sound file in an app it would not know how to open it but if i go back to the desktop and click on the file it will play. I go to setting but i could only see two definitions: browser and assisted voice input but where are the others?
Hello, I have a new oneplus 6 as my first oneplus phone and I would like to ask you if there is better option to change ringtone instead of scrolling among plenty of music (I got about 800 songs) in the default chooser. Is there any option to choose directly a folder or even a music without scrolling as it is as default? I have tried choosing ringtone via poweramp but ringtone option is grey; unavailable.

I use an app called ringdroid. It has a search function and an easy to use interface to crop songs on internal storage for notification, calls and alarms. It saves them in your media folder.
Ok, so it means there is no option to do it by default and we have to use third-party app right?
U can select local ringtone and chose something from your playlist but there's not a built in program to crop your songs to make ringtones

It doesn't have a search function, but you can select to have only short media files selected. There's nothing built in though, unfortunately.
That's the lure of 1+.
Why put a bunch of apps in it that the majority will never use. If u want something, grab it out of the PS.
