There's no aggression here. Your eyes must be screwed in backwards. A question is NOT an accusation.
Please stop. No need for the back and forth.
Thanks for the post, I'm sure there's sombody out there who was unaware of the SDK drop.
So.. sorry for the non-developer question here but.... Now that the SDK is out.. does that mean we will start seeing the devs pushing out 2.2 roms or is there something else that will still need to happen for this to work?
I am no dev but my understanding is that this is just the sdk we need to wait until circa June.
Maybe a dev can be more accurate but I am not sure we have a dump of the Rom yet

Not yet. As far as I'm aware, the source code for Froyo has not yet been released to the AOSP git (where we can access the Google-maintained source). Until it is released there, all we can do is play with the SDK and develop Froyo-ready applications.

Devs could try to use SDK images or device dumps to create roms, but this will be "hacking way" until Google will upload Froyo sources.
Froyo, already has apps2sd integrated. I just wet myself

no, we wont start seeing ROMs for release on here until some 2.2 sourse is given to the AOSP(android open source project) which will hopefully not be too much longer.i give it end of first week in june.
2.1 has been out for how ever long and they still have not released the correct drivers to us users on G1/MT3G.....(video drivers and such)
I hope they do give the Dev what they need, but why should we expect it when what we still lack on 2.1 has not been released?
I am not even close to being a developer and don't really know what Im talking about, but just my thoughts....
so froyo should work better than eclair on our g1/mt3g's?

What's the point in writing/porting drivers now? T-Mobile will release via OTA the full working version anyway, and from there the developers will be able to extract and implement the drivers in cooked roms.
Good idea this!
Been waiting ages for t-mobile, voda, htc etc to sort it out! Been far too long now
Whens this OTA update gettin pushed out then??
HTC drivers are closed source, we need opensource drivers for future releases. Or you need wait? Maybe HTC release any update?

I wasn't aware that T-Mobile would be pushing 2.1 to G1/Dream?
There has been no word on T-Mobile pushing an update to the G1/Dream. Though, chances are, they will be pushing one to the Mytouch 3g/Magic eventually (later this year), and that should be enough to get drivers working on the G1, as for what I know, the Magic/Dream are very close to the same phone.

Update: Alright guys, after collaborating with others on the port it seems we have hit a wall. The nexus s doesn't use our adreno egl drivers and instead uses newer drivers. The drivers are needed and we can't call on adreno drivers without errors. Because of this, we are putting a stop currently on development as first and foremost we need the build to be usable. The inc devs seem to have hit the same road block. We need a nexus one dump or source to move forward. Until then. :tips hat:
This is a dev rom. Things are still broken. Please don't play unless you realize this. If your boot hangs, try a dalvik wipe.
Note to devs:
-homescreen still slow (using ns EGL libs right now)
-no sound, sound crashes on boot
-dont have time to test more
-no wifi
-data works (browser force close on google boot)

Good luck trying to port this... you're gonna have hell of time. The problem is that us EVO users are currently using 2.2 and the Nexus ROM's are built on 2.3; the lib files and bins will more than like fail if you try to boot.
I would wait until the 2.3 AOSP source is released to try and do a proper boot.
Porting different versions of Android especially from different manufacturers is a huge *****... believe me, I know... right Barnacles?
Edit:: I take back some of what I said... apparently it can be done, with some problems -- looking into right now with some other devs; will update later.

Now, you may have seen the other CM7 thread, and those who saw it know it was a cluster*MOD EDIT*. I'm just going to clear up some of the misinformation about the port.
1. I am currently running CM7 on my phone.
2. It is not a dual boot, unlike supercurio's NSONSGS work, it is an actual rom.
3. It is only being developed for the i9000, but with a few reorientations, it's usable as captivate rom.
4. There are no official releases for either phone, you must build from source. Instructions are on the CM forums.
Any other questions, I'm happy to answer. I just don't like when misinformation is wrongly spread.
Sorry about that. Heh heh. I apologize for that thread.
So couple questions.
1 If it's a full ROM did you have to convert NAND to EXT4 as well? My understanding was the WHOLE file system on NS was EXT4.
2 If you did have to convert it, have you tried going back to any other "regular" ROM's?
Thanks for the information/clarification. Honestly though, I think it's unfair to single out DG, he's helped alot of people here. If he is wrong he's wrong but no need to hate.

misinformation? They are using supercurios kernel work to boot it. (i said KERNEL not initram, where the dual boot comes from)
If there is any further work being done by codeworkx and others, its in private., but I can tell you there is NO chatter in the dev channel, hasn't been in some time.
Can't we just get over everything and stop with the petty insults... This thread is going downhill already, lets try and keep it clean.

1. Nope, everything is mounted as yaffs2. When you flash the "initial" zip, it creates all the partitions.
2. You can, but you must either use "repartition" in Odin, or use the one click to stock.
And I know, I was just joking about. I can certainly edit that out if it offends him.

It is because official updates usually means a stable bugfree version of gingerbread for our devices so that it can be used as a base for custom roms or if it is good enough, use as it is rooted/deodexed.

then you can at least reorient the kernel and whatnot.
edit: should also add, no development related to this, just a gingerbread announcement therefore general.

hey Kaik, when (if) the source becomes available, will this help in any way the CM7 development for the SGS?

it's not Friday! anyway, there have already been two other leaks for Gingerbread besides this (though this one went out through KIES and is likely official). this isn't any use for us until sources drop.

Unless you think that part in bold is sarcasm... that kind of sounds like it means it'll help CM7 development.

the major thing this will be able to help with is stuff like GPIO's and whatnot
Well usually the source for the I9000 rom releases always comes out within a reasonable time. So heres hopin we dont have to wait that long before we can grab it and start workin on some reoriented kernels.
Has anybody or will anybody flash this on to their Captivate?
If you have what was it like? And how did it go?
for me Im just sticking with CM7 but still intrigued
