(GUIDE) How to come back from brick - Hero CDMA Android Development

First off let me say I'm not responsible for anything that you do to your phone.
Well I decided for reasons i won't get into I decided to purposely brick my phone. I ran the 2.1 ruu and while it was sending the radio I pulled the plug and battery. Brick. Nothing came on so after about three hours of shenanigans dealing with other folks I came home and thought of something I put the battery back in turned it on but it didn't come on then pulled the battery put it back in then pushed the volume up key and power. Nothing. At that point I plugged it in and to my computer and started to run the ruu. Don't know why but I pulled it out again and and for a split second I saw something. (JOY! HOPE!) So I started the ruu all over again and wouldn't you know it, it ran all the way through. Phone unbricked.
I will later post up a link as well when I get back from school if your too lazy to search on proof from another guy that you can't brick your phone just by running the wrong radio or rom. Actually here is the link

I have no idea why anyone would purposely brick thier phone but this is great news, thanks!

Are you sure you weren't just stuck in fastboot? If so that's not bricked.

So far you are the only person with this problem so we are running through the basics.
Did you get any errors or messages during the update? Did the phone run out of battery mid update? Did anything odd or unusual happen?
quick question in while in the topic, had he done a FULL nandroid backup and was able to atleast get to boot screen would he be able to restore his phone? just a quick questions because to this day i have no idea how the nandroid thing works i cant do it on my x64 vista either and dont see how it comes in handy lol. Sorry just trying to fig it out.
after i tried to install the radio update it showed some sort of chip with an arrow and then it froze for over 10 mins so i ended up taking out the battery
@zgjbeta Yes. If you can get to the blinkin android screen, your not really bricked. Nandroid would fix it right up.
If it wont even turn on, like your case. I dono what to tell you.
For starters, try to connect it to a wall outlet to make sure its not the battery.
Also tell us exactly what happened during the update process.
EDIT: I read your most recent post. That's strange because everyone gets the chip thing, you shouldve tried home + back or menu + green + red.
One of those wouldve most likely worked.
Good luck.
Also maybe try to take it out again and put it back in.
I had the chip and arrow after the radio update, I didn't take the battery out, started pressing random keys, lol... and then it went away and booted back to a JF recovery style screen. Pressed home + back and it rebooted to a stuck flashing android. Then did call+menu+end to reboot and it has worked fine ever since.
There is definitely something whacky going on...
yes i tried to do the home key plus end and camera plus end options while in that chip state but didnt do anything so i resolve to take out the battery and it wont turn on again. i also tried all the button reset combo nothing happens
If it wont even turn then there is really nothing that can be done. Another thing I would try is if you know someone else with a G1 try their battery.

Also try cleaning the battery contacts in the phone and on the battery. This happened to one of my dumbphones once - cleaned out the battery contacts and it worked again. Bizzare situation, simple solutions first.
You might've turned it off while it was writing a vital file. Thus your phone might be bricked.
Here's an idea - sent it back to T-Mobile/HTC - and I don't think they will notice you violated your warranty until it's too late (they have to fix your phone to find out) so you could just refuse to pay and have them send it back to you.
I too saw the chip with the arrow thing, so that makes 3 people in this thread. It happened when I did the radio update. Anyway, in my case, I held down the recovery mode keys for a while and it went to the menu. Then I just rebooted and everything was great. Glad I didn't take out the battery (I considered it).
I had the chip and just waited and it took care of itself. Just be patient people.
plug in the wall charger, wait 10 seconds, then hold the red power button for 3-5 seconds then release, it should turn on
i tried that didnt work anymore advice?
also is there any way to run diagnostics of this phone to pc to make it work?
If the phone won't turn on, go back to the T-Mobile store and ***** em out. Not much else to say if we can't even get power to it.

My Phone Keeps Restarting Help.

I was carrying my phone and i dropped it, and now it won't turn on. Well i plug it to my computer and then i pressed the on button and it turns on but it gets to windows screen and reboots and does this over and over. BUT if i unplug it doesnt turn on anymore.
I've flashed it a couple of time but the last time i flashed it was back to the stock alltel rom because I wanted picture messages to come through.
I've reflashed it again and it goes through but when you unplug it. It turns off again.
So, when did you drop it? Like, right after you flashed a gsm rom onto a cdma phone (or vice-versa, not sure what alltel is, though I suspect it's cdma). Is dropping the phone even relevant to the story, or is flashing the cause of the re-boot cycles? You need to be a little more clear. By that, I mean, what did you do immediately before the re-booting started? Flash, or drop?
I suspect you need to go back to the stock rom and you'll be good to go. If dropping is the cause, go back to stock, and if it's still broken, send it in for repairs/warranty/insurance or whatever.

Yup, Alltel IS CDMA.....
If it works while connected to the computer then you might have broken the battery-phone connection...or who knows. I'd definitely send it back if it is tstill in warranty.
Good luck.
Okay, i flashed it like 6 hours earlier to droping it, no i don't have warranty on it.
so i flashed it with back to the stock rom
then i dropped it 6 hours later and it keeps rebooting only when i have it plugged in but it wont turn on without it being plug.
You haven't answered whether or not you flashed a GSM ROM to your CDMA phone.
Can you see physical damage?
Oh, idk why but i typed something wrong, i've had this rom forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=42741 the alltel one since yesterday, and i dropped it today, After i dropped it put the battery back on but it didn't start up so i pluged it to my comp and it started up so i did hard reset while i had it plugged up to the computer and it didn't fix it.
*NOTE it can only start up (well try to start up but reboots) when i have the cord pluged up as soon as i take it out it wont start at all.*
So, i figured since it will only start up when i have a power source and reboots it might have a booting problem. So i reflashed it with the same rom i posted a link to..
I still have the same problem
Also i have no warranty bought phone from a friend.
*Also no damage just battery poped out when it got dropped*

So before you dropped it it was working fine on the stock Alltel ROM?
If that's the case, its probably physical damage, although the constant restarts would indicate a software issue.
Make sure your battery is getting a good connection.
It may just be a damaged battery.
Yes, it was working fine, I got a spare battery at home so i'm gonna try that, but ya the restarting make me think a software problem cause its getting power really from the computer port.

BIG WEIRD Fuze problem PLZ Help

Ok people let me tell you i love my fuze and i have followed all directions to updating my rom and i had a nice new cooked rom and everything was running fine until one day i go and take my phone off the charger and it turns off as if it had no power from the battery so then i try to turn it back on and still nothing :O "Sad FacE" then after staring at my phone for 20 minutes in complete disbeleive i started being creative starting with a soft reset to a hard reset , also take note when i put my phone back on the charger the light that breathes no longer came on, then i got my phone to boot to hard-spl olinox 1.90 and it said no boot image and sat there so then i turn the phone off and did a rom update thru my hard spl after updating the phone went to reset but only turned off and the only thing i can pull up is hard spl. plz help it would be so so so much appreciated and im not slow at computers so u wont have to explain everything to me i do programming but never cooked a rom or delt with this
Sounds like you may have a hardware problem; maybe there was a power surge or something and part of the phone got fried. Just a guess, but sorry, man. Could it have gotten wet somehow?
I guess the other possibility is that the battery is just completely dead. You can get into bootloader without a battery (pull the battery, plug it in, and you'll see). You can even flash, but you can't boot up. Try cleaning the contacts, and make sure they're contacting the battery electrodes. Now that I think about it more, I bet it's just the battery, or it's related to the battery (maybe the usb port is screwed). If this fails, go buy a cheap battery for the phone and try it out. If that doesn't work, just flash the stock rom and then the stock spl and return it for warranty. All isn't lost.
Thnx
ok thank you for you're reply. the battery is good i can flash rom off my micro sd card with out power source to phone also the phone had dropped about a foot from the ground onto carpet the same time i started having this problem im wondering if somethen is loose idk. im figuren if the phone can boot olinex on its own then it is still working as in the screen has full fuction as far as i know all buttons work, as i was looking into this phone im wondering if the thing that stops ur phone from charging and turning on when its over heating might be damaged. there is no warranty so im tryen to look into this as much as possible

[Q] Please help, bricked Nexus S 4G

I did search, both here and google, and have not come across a similar problem.
I picked up a nexus s 4g recently and unlocked the bootloader using fastboot oem unlock, flashed clockwork mod recovery on, and installed cyanogen 7. I then found out I'm a complete idiot because that rom was made for the GSM phone, and the radio doesn't work.
Tried to use fastboot to load an original rom back on, which failed, so found a windows machine and installed Odin, followed a tutorial on how to flash back to stock, Odin reported a pass, but the phone will no longer turn on.
No amount of taking the battery out, button combos, or charging has changed this.
I had about 70% battery when I tried to flash with Odin, so I'm fairly sure it's not a battery issue.
I also tried to adb devices with the phone hooked up, and nothing was found, so it shouldnt be an unresponsive screen.
Help?
did you make a nand?
I did not. Not sure if it would help, because I can probably download someone elses nand but I don't know how to do anything with it with my phone not powering on
I could be completely wrong about that, not very familiar with nandroid.
You can't get it into download mode?
Correct.
Essentially the phone is dead, it will not respond to anything.
Very similar to the battery not being installed, but I know for certain the battery has a charge.
I just checked the battery, and I retract my previous statements. 560mAh and 3.08 volts. Would that be low to the point of it not taking a charge through the charger?
I have it on a special charger directly on the terminals right now, I will post results once its through.
Read in the fascinate forum that a guy purposely flash a rom from a different device ans used Odin to revert back, also he gave a tip that one should keep trying to use Odin if the first try didn't work. Not sure if this will help never happened to me...
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Fully charged battery did not help
Try what they used to suggest with the epic when it was stubborn. Remove the battery. Plug the usb cable into the phone then into the computer. Try to put it into download mode. If that doesn't work, I can't think of anything else. If you have insurance, maybe they'll swap it when they see it's dead for a refurb. Be nice and play dumb. Tell them something like it froze one time and you pulled the battery and after that it wouldn't turn back on.
I could use my insurance, but its $100 bucks now. Sprint really changed their policy on that.
I also don't really want a refurb phone, when mine was NIB 3 days ago. I realize it's my fault but still.

Bricked gs3 HALLLP

Ok so i am brand new to the xda forums and i joined because my friend said the people over here are very knowledgeable. I have a Galaxy SIII from verizon and i had it Rooted and i had cyanogen mod flashed on to it. I went to sleep woke up did a couple things then went to look at my phone. I tried turning it on i got nothing. I plugged it in and got nada. I then searched on the web to find out that it is hard bricked. I am only getting the battery notification LED when i plug in the phone without the battery inserted and sim inserted. Ive had this phone for a little bit but cant afford a new one so if you have knowledge on how to fix it please post. I have a p that can handle most anything so running programs and what not is easy if it comes to having to do things computer-side :crying:
Have you tried booting into recovery/download using the 3-button combos? Some people have found that leaving the phone on the charger for a while also makes it come back to life. If those don't work than you're most likely hard bricked. You can try the SD card de-brick method. Everything you need is in this youtube video (there are links to all the files you need in the video description):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU5H8NJ7vTM
Alternatively, you can send it to http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/ and they'll fix it all up and root/unlock bootloader/install any custom ROM and ship it back to you for $50.
I did try to boot into my twrp recover but it wouldnt work so i left it plugged into my pc while i played some garrys mod and then decided to put the battery in so i didnt lose anything. Out of instinct i hit the power button and it showed the battery charging boot logo. I nearly shat myself . but i remained calm turned it on and then it booted showed the cyanogenmod booter and loaded in with all my old files :good: My replies may be few and far between but i know its good to give and take in forums so ill check maybe once every 3 days and reply to anything i see by directing the messages at people personally
