Morning / Afternoon / Evening to All,
Not to be critical of this wonderful website which is full of great resources but, I have noticed that the useful info is hard to find.
So I thought it might be a good idea to post all of my items in the one place so here goes.
I will update these as i go.
TIP
If you want the CAB Files in remain in your PPC after install simply change the files preferences to "Read Only"

verry nice indeed but there are simpler ways of doing the discribed below

3. Copying your “Extended ROM” Files before Big Storage
You need to copy the files from your “Extended ROM” before you go the Big Storage as you will need to install some of them after you’re finished, i.e. MMS etc. They will be deleted after the upgrade (and that’s the whole point).
a. To copy them from your Magician do a hard reset (push the power button and reset button at the same time).
b. Go through the screen alignment, time zone etc and get ready…….. when you reach the “Completed” screen it will ask you to “Tap your screen…. As soon as you tap the screen you get 3 sec to soft reset (push the reset button). If you miss it as I did just do a hard reset and try again.
c. After you do b. above go to the built in file explorer and under “My Device” you will now see the treasured “Extended_ROM” with all its files. Copy the directory straight to your SD Card then to your PC, keep them safe.
its just a bit easyer when you just fill in
go to windows folder on PPC and search loadvdisk.exe
run it and you will see your ext_rom (until you reset )
not to sure the usual file explorer can do this but Resco file explorer will find it

By the way, and i think these questions are more tricky, is there any way NOT to charge the battery while the phone is connected to the USB?
And while using the calling software, when inputing the nunbers, to make the sim card entries dissapear and only have the ones that are in the contacts? Because most of the times i have a double entry and it really makes me mad!

The way to NOT to charge the battarie is to make some changes to your cable - cut +5v from USB (or make a switch).

the tray launch only app.... theres now way to BROWSE for the program you want on the tray?
sucks that you have to type out the entire path just to get it

Noob question here.
Once i install the camera & album to Storage how do i delete it from the \windows . Maybe not possible due to it being in ROM. In this case I end up with 2 camera software? So i'm curious what is the idea of installing in storage.

but my camera version was 2.70 (build 18727) and it is still the same. I reset the device but still didnt become build 2026.

Can anyone provide a link to get back those basic EXT ROM software so that I can upload it back? ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/ is not working for me. Any help pls?

Thanks a lot for your kind offer. I manage to pull up the files from the FTP using cuteFTP software. Some how my company laptop doesn't allow default browser connection....
My phone is O2 mini and has v.1.13 for both rom & radio. I think it's BigStorage (not sure though).
Any good advice for me? I mean anything at all....

interesting problem on tilt?

hello everyone, long time member of howardforums and just joined xda and find some very usefull info, thank you all. i ran into a small problem last night. i have a tilt , not flashed but i have installed the htc home screen and everything worked great. last night i tryed to install the touchflo program found in a few places in this forum and it didn't work but thats when the interesting stuff happen....after deleting all touchflo cab files and restarting the tilt every time at startup it gives me a warning " FTouchFlo.exe cannot be open, its either not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components can not be found. try reinstalling or restoring file." ????? and now the icon that used to be under the clock for favorite people that would send me their pics so i can just one touch dial is GONE? tryed installing the cab for the htc homescreen again but the same....there is a music short cut that lets me launch the music player that wasn't there before? i downloaded the htc home plugin customisor and even when i set for 6 icons on the bottom of the clock it still just gives me 5?
at the end of the day i would like to have the touchflo program but its not a big deal if i dont, i would however really like to have the pic dialer back on my screen as its really convinient to dial my fav people with it.thanks in advance

Keys are in the registry. To access and change the registry you need a registry viewer/editor. There are many but for simple "everyday" use this is a good one:

Be careful though delete the wrong things and you'll end up needing a hard reset.

thanks mike, sorry for the noob question but what do i do once i install this on my comp ? do i install on the phone as well and run the program or ? .....

PHM downloads as a .MSI windows installer. So it will not install properly unless you have your device connected via active sync when you run the downloaded file. So connect your device via usb cable. Let active sync connect and update. Then while still connected run the installer download. During the process a message will pop up on your device. If a choice is offered it will be ok to install to storage card if you have one.

First Time WM user - need desperate help with questions about HTC Touch Pro...

Hi Guys, and pleas bare with me since i'm new to WM phones, i've always been a Nokia Symbian and Sony Ericsson user.
I got the HTC Touch Pro (I'll call it it TP for short) and i have a buncha questions that I'd appreciate if you guys would help me with.
1) When receiving an MMS message, why does the picture appear as a small icon instead of the full picture, i would have to click it to view it. IS there a way to automatically view the picture/video as soon as i open an MMS message?
2) Do WM phones have shady/crippled Bluetooth? i have used the TP, Omnia, imate Jam, imate Jammin and they all have funky blue tooth when transferring pictures to PC. I used multiple Bluetooth USB dongles on my PC and same problem, the device searches for the Pc, then i get a "Device Found" message forever, for like 5-10 minutes(literally) then it changes my PC name(if i'm lucky, that's like 1 times out of 10) ....so eventually i tap the PC name transfer the picture and *most* of the time the trasfer/process failed! I've used Jabra and Belkin BT USB dingles
3) When taking pictures, i know you could email them and MMS them, but why no Bluetooth option? why can't i do it right away from the camera utility/gallery? it's so inconvenient......i have to go to "Pictures" and Videos" application to bluetooth the pictures/videos....and the worst part is that i can only transfer 1 file at a time!
4) when sending files from PC to TP (which works perfectly fine btw), where does the file end up? where in file explorer? and is there an easier way to locate it?
5) when recording video, which is better MPE4 or H.264? i'm guessing H.264? ....i can't tell since the files won't transfer over BT! yes and both BT are on on both devices and discoverable.
6) Where can i get theme's for the HTC TP?
7) any recommended programs? i'm looking for media and games....i'm not interested in business application.....oops, one more thing, does Blackberry work with the HTC TP?
sorry for the too many question, but im a WM convert and new to the OS and need the help to answer my questions, i appreciate you're help guys!

I dont use MMS, but "why" I think would be better to ask microsoft!
However I think there are many other programs to choose from if you dont like the standard one in WM 6.1! Maybe someone here can give you some alternatives?

I dont have any problems with bluetooth transfers, have you tried using "Resco explorer"? Or maybe you should check if your PC is at fault?

"Why" ask microsoft again!
But you should try Resco explorer, there is a option so you can transfer/manage several files at once!

If you mean sending files via bluetooth then it should end up under \my device\My documents. However that can be changed, if you go to settings/connections/Bluetooth/FTP you will be able to set another default folder! (SD card recommended!)

I am not sure about this one, but I have found that H.264 does not play in all devices!

There are so many programs to choose from, but for media I would recomend either TCPMP (Free) or Coreplayer (Comercial)! A good way to find programs is to look at handandgo´s website!

I don't know if you'll get your questions 100% answered, but friend, it sounds like you picked up the wrong phone for you. I myself have come from a long line of Nokia's and their S40 and S60 OS's but I'm glad to say that I love my TP and all it's little qwerks, don't really think that you can get everything to work like everything else. Each OS is a little different. Kind of like saying, "Can anyone help me? I want to be able to right click in MAC OS Tiger!" it's just never going to happen [and I know you can ctrl+click to get another set of options, but you know what I mean]

Hi, does anyone know if its possible to connect to Windows Mobile device from a PC WITHOUT installing Active sync?
I would like to connect to my HTC Diamond and although My Mobiler is very good, I would like to know if its possible without using Activesync?

as long as u want a software for file transfer, u need softick card export (but it's not free) or wm5torage (it's free but it doesnt work on my device)

How to remove/change HD2 windows files

Hey, this question maybe was asked before, but couldn't find it any where. We can do a lot of tweeks with removing/ changing file in WM6.5 folder, but every time i try to do so it says "Acces denied". what i do wrong and what i need to do. your help and tips are welcome!

Try Total Commander
For the language tweaks on this forum, and other stuff where you need to "overwrite" ROM files, use Total Commander.
It won't allow you hardcore stuff, but for many tricks advertised here it works.
Thinking of it, I wouldn't be able to come up with a good search term for this either. However, the threads with tricks do tell you to use TC.

Total Commander runs on the phone. It's basically a file explorer alternative that does a few other things, like registry editing, as well.
It allows you to overwrite read-only and system files that aren't in use.
You should have no problem replacing the startup images with it.

hey johncmolyneux, i see you are one of poor UK HD2 owners with skinned rom. i'll show up stupid again but where do i find TC on UK O2 rom. i had one on my touch pro but i just can't see one on HD2. maybe because O2 removed it? maybe you know link to download on for HD2? thanks in advance

Incidentally, I'm an O2 user, but my phone isn't an O2 one - I bought it SIM free. Also, Total Commander doesn't come on the standard ROM either, so you would have been looking for it regardless!
I didn't think O2 were doing anything to the phone. Have they skinned it then?

yeap, first what i missed is wifi router! and believe some other small bits and bobs as i haven't seen hrc rom yet. another thing bastards locked damn phone and need sim free as i travel alot to europe and use foreign sims. by the way i rcopied files for lock screen and welcome screen to win dir, soft it but no changes happened. any ideas where did i go wrong?

I've only played with the lockscreen myself, and I did that by copying the cpr file and the associated png files into the windows folder, and then just to be sure, I copied the cpr file into the \windows\lockscreen\ folder as well.
That worked for me.
As far as the start screen goes, I'd raise the problem in the thread that you got the screens from.
