Hi, I am interested in the taskbar layout seen in the screenshot below.
Does anyone know what program it is ?
Looks like it might be usefull & I would like to try it but first I need the name so I can find out more.
Many thanks.
It's some of my voodoo, PhoneAlarm running a custom skin coupled with my VJToggleToday (I or II, depending on your OS) to map it as a replacement start bar.
All the gubbins are available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27331&highlight=vjtoggletoday
That particular screenshot is shown running my VJTodayButton, used for quick toggle access to the Today screen.

Thanks vijay555
Voodoo.....
Was wondering my MDAIII feels like its got needles sticking out of it.
For some reason, when writing that post, I was thinking about Monkey Island and the voodoo lady/rubber chicken. Don't know why.
Although most of my programming requires the sacrificing of farmyard animals

vijay555, doesn't your phone crawl to a halt with all those things on your today screen? (like ages waking from standby, switching to today screen etc)
Cheers
Si
Mudstuffin: in the screenshow, I'm running PhoneAlarm with my skin, at the top (using VJToggleToday to remove the softkeys and the start bar at the top), then AlarmToday with some custom hacks, weather plugin, can't remember which, VJTodaySpacer, and finally VJEphemeris.
So it's not many today plugins, just 4 (not including VJTodaySpacer).
VJEphemeris has a lot of functionality, but it's highly optimised so it doesn't use the resources of say 5 different today plugins - it replaces my quotes plugin, claunch, a battery meter, VJAudioNotes = a plugin I wrote to show my current operator and telephone number (because I use a dual sim), incoming SMS, missed calls, and a huge stonking analog clock/alarm indicator/calendar shortcut. The layour is optimised for right handed thumb usage.
All in, it works extremely well. I suggest you set up your system efficiently first, make a backup, and then try the various today plugins you want. Don't go for bells and whistles, stick with efficient and effective. This setup works very well for me; I like the idea of Wisbar etc, but find that I can do most of what I need one handed with this setup. That's paramount for me.
I've never had problems of the system slowing down or running out of resources, although I use VJOkButt to close running apps, so the only thing ever running is one app, the Phone, and Today.

vijay, that quotes today plugin, what is it called?. it looks nice.. can i download it somewhere?
The quotes plugin is part of VJEphemeris, but it's based on code for VJQOTD, which is based on QOTD.
QOTD is open source, google for it, VJQOTD is unreleased although I make it available if asked, and VJEphemeris is unreleased. The VJEphemeris version is much improved/re-written, self resizing according to quote size etc and quote navigation etc.
You can see VJQOTD at the bottom of this (old) screenshot:

thanx vijay
found this one, QOTD 1.5 Copyright 2001-2003, priebesoft
will try it later today
well .that one from pribesoft didnt work so well, doesnt update everyday
So the dialer on Dutty's ROM is nice but it includes the video dialer and there's no point in that on AT&T. Anyone have opinions on the best dialer to use for AT&T? Preferably one that uses the same reddish theme as Dutty's or could be skinned to match?
TIA
I'm using the reTOUCHed dialer I used on my Wizard. The keys are a little bigger which helps (somewhat).
I'm just going to be blunt: Pick a dialer that suits you.
I'm using the I Phone dialer. I found it somewhere on this forum. Easiest to use, for me anyway.
yea cause the keys must be bigger but a bigger key on this stupid small screen pssh. htc needs to work on there screen size man.
I use regular one
I removed phone skin completely, for some reason i noticed every custom phone skin messes up the smart dialing, even though i hide the sim card contacts the smart dialing starts searching shows them, but when I keep the original phone skin the smart dialing does not look in the sim cards when it's hidden.
Please let me know if I am wrong about this, because this has been bugging me for a while, that's the reason I always revert back to regular phone skin.
Is it possible to compile all of the links for non-video (At&t) dialers in this thread?

I second the motion...
I personally like the windows dialer. I find it loads much faster than any skinned dialers.
Post some ****ing dialers. The AT&T dialer sucks.
EDIT: Found some.

I've never played with changing the dialer before that's why I was interested in other people's opinions and there really isn't one good place to find dialers.
Any further input on good dialers (opinions on them and locations for them) much appreciated.

does anyone know where to get Dutty's dialer, the one he uses in his roms?
thanks

how very nice a new chef. So little has been happening in this forum lately I'll try this in the weekend and write my impressions
thx man!
Have just tested your rom in one day.
The common impression is fast, stable, good look.
But there are still some problems need to solve:
- Camera doesn't work - most important thing
- Lack of options to control and change user interface ...
- Lack of some basic software (not important)
I'm testing. I'll feedback more later.
Totally, you did a great work. Pls, try to continue
I just tested your rom and it was great but i found out some bugs:
- QuickGPS did not work
- Camera won,t start
keep up the good work
working on issues
need little more information about options to control and change user interface
and wanted basic software
i'd rather install my own basic software if possible. I prefer a stock os.
Also i have found the menus seem very huge unlike wm6.1
But thnxs for the os, using it atm.
for making menus smaller take a look at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=511759
post number 5
here is copy pasted:
Use Advanced Config and change the Popup menu font size under User Interface.
I change mine from Large to Custom 800
Thnxs that did the trick.
Function key on keyboard does not work, therefore if im typing an email and want to use the '@' key i can't (and all the other keys the function gives).
The onscreen keyboard is not in center when opened. (half of it is chopped off)
Also i can't seem to find voip. Were is it?

great camera working
Great news
please fix some more problems:
- QuickGPS and Voice Recorder can't start
- Image in Home Menu can't load pictures from flashdisk
Hi all,
This project started out as my basic mod of SpellDial (by Lawrence Greenfield, thanks for making it open-source) initially, but I've since made quite a number of changes to it.
It is now able to search by both name and number, and you can always use the "#" key to denote a space. Most of the other changes I made are under the hood, but I've attached a few screenshots so you know what you're getting.
Lastly, there are a couple of bugs, among them I believe it only works properly with Nexus One. I've yet to finish up all the mdpi images, and I've also not updated the code for SDK3/4 and below (Cupcake, Donut).
Download: Search "NubDial" on the Android Market.
Source: http://code.google.com/p/nubdial/
Request/Help Needed:
I hope that this will become a community project (but I doubt I'll be able to do much since sch's getting really bz), and would appreciate if someone could come up with a nicer design that still fits the Android look . If you have, please post your mock-up or send them to me , actual 9-patch/images will be awesome.
Change Log:
1.82:
Added patch by seidler2547 to support accented characters.
Added patch by qingcai to speed up performance (I changed the delay slightly).
Should not show up on Donut/Cupcake Markets anymore.
1.81:
Fixed another FC bug. Thanks to xiutian for running the test version and providing me with logs !
1.8:
Fixed a FC bug when searching for some contacts.
1.7:
Added pref to auto-hide the dialpad on fling action .
Also, fling up/down on the dialpad to show/hide it.
1.6:
QuickContacts picture
1.51:
Fixed hyphen bug again.
1.5:
Added "Add to contacts" to Menu options
Highlighting now works across dashes (Please report)
Able to set as default Dial app now (Tested with SMS widget)
Enabled fast scroll for the contacts list (similar to default contacts, you've the fat tab to hold and drag down)
1.4:
Fixes a regression bug with name matching
*Should* fix hyphen bug
1.3:
Added preference to match any number sequence, not just from the start
1.2:
Bug fixes
1.1/1.0:
I forgot
To Do:
Add menus to go Contacts/Logs/Favourites
Add 2-sec pause/etc.
Implement features to Donut/Cupcake (Low-priority)
Known Bugs:
Long pressing on menu for the soft keyboard messes up the layout. Any ideas?
Looks awesome!! Where's the download link? Thanks for your work
You're fast. I normally post once when there's a lot of stuff already before I edit it to add more . Link's up .

Haha I actually JUST happened to be checking the forums (which I don't check so often). Looking good and I just tested it out on the Market. Smooth so far, but after a call ends it unfortunately does not go back to the app, but instead it goes to the stock Dialer. I know that's probably difficult to intertwine and you're aware, but just thought I'd post about it!
a good start
Wysie,
I've been following your development of the contacts apk and now this t9 dialer is adds function not currently available on stock dialer. A good start.
Is there any way to merge this dialer into the stock nexus one phone app?
Jonathan
^^ yes this would be cool
Nice idea. I would like to see this tool rolled into your Wycontacts Eclair apk.
Some quick feedback - I am getting FC when searching for a number/contact that either begins with 2 (ABC) or 6 (MNO). This is repeatable and happens every time. I have rebooted and still get FC whenever the 2 or 6 are entered first. Searching with the other keys works as expected. Can I send you any log files that might help in remedying this? My sig has the ROM and kernel details for reference.
Thank-you
works just fine. It wod be cool the app open by dobbel tap on tracbal
Great work .... but can you do the following?
1) Change the icon to represent the standard Dialler Icon?
2) Have the option within the dialler to goto the other tabs, or better still implement this into the standard dialler?
Thanks for your work !
Hi guys, thanks for the support and comments.
Integrating into the system Contacts app is definitely possible, but I'm afraid I lack the time to do that. Moreover it's not high on my priority list.
I made the icon, so nope, not gonna change it . Sorry.
Check out my to do for what's coming next, as well as currently known bugs (would be good if someone can propose a fix).
That's all. Updated a new version to Market which fixes some minor bugs.
A new icon would be nice. Don't get me wrong, but the current one looks strange. You've made a great app, why spoil it with a fugly icon?
Anyway, it would be great if the app searched contact numbers with wildcards, i.e. if I have a number with an international code (+44xxxxxxxxx), I could search it without having to enter +44.
bro wonderful stuff!
feels good using sg products..
May I add in some suggestions to make it even better...
- Add Speeddial (long press a number to dial a assigned contact?)
- Give options to show default number only and hide the rest
- integrate with call log
if all these is made possible, I will uninstall acontacts and use yrs =)
request
Wysie. awesome work but i have one request. it seems it does not find any sequence of digits, it has to search from the begining of each number. when i remeber numbers i dont start with the area code first (as i assume many people dont) so this app would be perfect if it searched for the sequence in any part of the numbers. once again, beautiful app i would pay for it if it had this feature. (and maybe a nicer icon that matched the 2.1 stock ui a little better)
1951 360-5555
insead of
1951 360-5555
i feel like i made zero sense here i hope i got through. lol
To filter out country code at the start is something I want to do but have yet to think of...
Just uploaded 1.3 on the Market which has an option to allow searching from anywhere in the number . Does not filter by country code, it simply matches any subsequence of numbers.
Thanks for the updated version .... I'd love to see the contact photo built into the left of the name too .... just like it is all over the 2.1 phone app.
the prefix issue is how caller id matching works for incoming calls, only the last 6 or 7 digits of the number is searched for.
I am not sure you would want this on a dialer though? for example sometimes I cant remember a name but i can remember the town and therefore dialling code eg tradesmen in the town where my holiday home is so on my winmo phone i would type in just the dialing code to bring a list of contacts in that area.
Anyway I stopped putting in the international prefix on numbers now, the last few times i went abroad it seems that the networks are smart enough to know your roaming and where your have roamed from so no need of idd prefix when dialing back to your home country.

Sorry wysie but im with this guy, I would love to use this as my replacement default dialer but putting this on my homescreen makes it pretty ugly. Looks like a game of sudoku tbh lol trying atm to change the icon with bettercut but having problems.
very nice update, I just wanted to login here to the forum to suggest to you that it searches anywhere in the number
Thank you very much.
Another suggestion: Is it possible to integrate contact picture ? That would be superb
Thanks again for all your work.
Bug report x2:
My Nexus One uses US locale I think but all my numbers are saved as +4670155778 etc. So when the first hyphen appears it'll throw the search off as it appear to search with the added hyphen.
Also, when having language code in numbers (as all my numbers have) you remove the leading zero: +4670155778 is actually 070155778. Please have it match a search for 070155778 as 70155778 to fix this.
Hi, I am not sure if this theme is not discussed already, but I just had a thought about useful dialer feature. It would be great to see a person that is calling additional information such as Company and/or Title. This feature is really needed and useful in business partners and clients because now you can see name and surname of person that is calling but no company information or job title.
Maybe there is any chance to make some tweek to original HTC HD2 dialer, or there is another dialer software that alows to do this?
I would like that as well
That is a great idea! It would be most useful.
Hi I'd also like to see that function and do any of you know of a way to change the sound of the dialer? I want to either make it silent when dialing a number or clicking sound. is that possible? Thanks

Start/settings/personal/phone its in there.
so, has annybody a solution? and besides, is there a possibility of modding/tweeking HTC original dialer? Is there annyone working on that?
I'd love that feature as well.
I'm getting a lot of work-related calls from many different people whose names I can't remember, so seeing company/title would be most useful.
Does anyone have an idea how this feature could be added? (if that is possible at all, without it being "cooked" directly into ROM)
Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing like the caller id mod that sammich did, if the dialer doesn't support the info, then it probably can't be done. Someone would have to create a dialer that would pull that info as well.
something like fulls screen caller on s60 3rd
The dialer skin is far more touch sensitive than it should be. I think some modifications should also been introduced.
I am not talking about a standalone dialer like iconsoft or iensoft but some tweaking of installed dialer. Is it possible?
