I dont know how many of you all knw about this i did a search and no thread came up so im sharing info. Im running the latest damage, and i found this keyboard app in the market called ThickButtons, its easily the best keyboard out there that ive ever used in my opinion. What it does is when youre typing it makes the keys that it assumes you want to click big, like it enlarges the letters so that it makes it easier to type. Also it never lags dudes. I encourage you guys to give thickbuttons a try i fell in love with it. I looked for it in 1.5 but it seems to only be in the newest market. enjoy this info if you care. When you guys try it come let me know if you agree with me.
Awesome, ill look into it.

Yea, I heard about this app months ago. Just never tried it out. You would think after so many versions of Better Keyboard they would make it better and more responsive.
They should call it not better than stock keyboard lmfao

I would never EVER use Swype. I think its garbage.
I tried this and I had more lag and I'm use to the buttons where they are and when this app makes keys bigger I hit the wrong button. My stock keyboard runs with almost no lag.

Holy crap. The lag on this keyboard is horrendous.
I just went into sms and typed "This is a test for the new thick buttons keyboard". I then set the phone down, and 45 seconds later it finished typing it out, and it said "This id w trdt of thw nee tjivk nuttins keubiatd".
I'll try rebooting, maybe that will fix it.

wow!! we have a few different thoughts on this kb. But &roid rage is a reliable source so ill have to pass. swype, android and htc kb are all built into my rom so this is no great loss. Personally i dont really use any kb on a phone since i hate them, but if i MUST be tortured, for me its a tie between the swype swype, and the android kb responsiveness

PTL, my brother or sister. Maybe someone will take a look at that launcher and report in.
I used it for a little. Its still in its alpha phase, but it is great! Sure, you cannot remove any icons that are added, but the beginning transitions that are there are very cool. I recommend it to anyone that likes the curreny iphone looks.

A friend of mine has an iPhone and I have to admit, it's pretty slick. I think I'll stick with my 8125 for the time being though. Mainly because of price, but also because I like being able to change roms on my phone whenever I want.
Personally, I like the iphone look. Have you tried slide2unlock, icontacts, and the iphone dialer?

Yeah, I used my friends iPhone for about an hour...it was pretty awesome. I like what some chefs have done with touchflo, but it seems a little buggy on my 8125, but have seen it run really well on others.
Yeah, I like touchflo too. I've been using the NBD touch ROMS. They seem to run faster than installing each touch component from cabs

I was using NBD 8.0 but had a problem with some "numbers" so I switched to the official Cingular ROM in preparation for something else. It seems a good time to test this launcher, so I'm downloading now and will test it out tomorrow.
Yeah, I'm on a different ROM now too. Good luck with that launcher and let us know how it is.

I've the iPhone dialer and slide2unlock myself... I like both of them.. they are very nice.
but, now I just use the iphone dialer... slide2unlock use too much RAM.. I mean it releases it but just locking it with device lock works for me.
The iphone dialer is great.. for some reason I feel like my number dialing is faster than anything I've used.
Icontact.. i think I tried it for like a min..but can't remember.. but if you want to try.. try Contact manager.. it's like icontact but it's little diff flavor to it.
I like it but.. I don't use it because it doesn't have search feature.. like the normal contact.. I got over 200 contacts and for me to just starting to type few letter at top really helps me find the contact I need.

I tried it today and i have to say i like slideIT much much better. Swype looks better but i slideIT always seems to type what i am trying to say. I orginal got it on my old wm phone last year. I got it for android now and its just as good. Is there actually a benifit from swype that i am missing?

I have tried both and I'm a Swype fan over slideIT. I don't know if slideIT has recently updated, but I know Swype knows my contacts names, whereas when I tried slideIT, it did not. My wife's name is EstefanÃa (note the accent) and Swype gets it right every time. That itself is worth it. I also found Swype is more customizable...you can change speed/accuracy settings etc.
And yes, I think Swype is much better looking than slideIT...and while that shouldn't matter...it does.
I totally agree with @bwshockley
Swype is leaps and bounds better.. its programmable and looks much nicer..
I adjust Swype's line length down, accuracy up, pop-up box down and then it is unstoppably outstanding.

Strange. I've had the exact opposite experience. After using Swype for a few weeks I'm almost as fast with it as on my desktop keyboard. I tried SlideIT for a few hours last night and found it to be so inaccurate that I was even slower than on the stock HTC keyboard.
Everyone should use what works best for them, but if someone were to ask me for a recommendation, I'd have to steer them towards Swype. (If they ever make it legitimately available to the masses.)

yep, you MUST be missing it. SWYPE is sick. But i hate typing on phones so it is awesome, and it always picks up my words. you have to configure it as it has many settings that can alter its performance....
slideIT works with my contacts and u can add words to it also. Idk i guess its all prefrence i am just a bit annoyed that everytime i type good God pops up... nothing against god but damn of course it dose not pop up with alternative words. I messed with the settings a bit to fix it and then boom i some how add the word causr... I dont even know how i added it on accident.. i never have these issues with slideIT and slide it figures out words as u go so u can quick hit em while ur typing also i like where the alt words show up right where they do on htc and android keybord its nice.

Go to menu>settings>language & keyboard> Swype Settings>Tutorial
Go through it ALL OF IT. You'll be swyping so fast it should be illegal

The XDA keyboard is great an all, but I've really loved the AOSP Keyboard on the older DarchLegend roms. I don't see it on any of his new roms, and i can't find an .apk for it.
I've searched for awhile, no luck. Anyone know where it's at?
are you talking about the OEM android keyboard? if so then i second that. i'd love to find out how to get the keyboard back. i hate the htc keyboard with a passion
Yeah. The HTC keyboard, and our version of it, arent great. I also find them very laggy at times; I have to type very slowly and deliberately, which isn't cool.
This should work, just flash from recovery.

EDIT: Works with latest Sprint Leak, but also works with old Legend leak.
So try it on the new
Perfect, thanks!
So I flashed this keyboard and it shows up under my Keyboard settings but the HTC Keyboard still shows up when I want to type. Is there something I'm missing? I'm using a flashed version of the Sprint 2.1 leak.

Not in my experience. With the sound and vibration off, it's just as fast as the sense keyboard with sound and vibration off, same goes for them both on. Also, it keeps giving me nonsensical autocorrections. It tries to correct common words like "an" to "Android".

this keyboard makes my life a lot easier
what i'm really interested in is how to do it for future apps?
It seems that alot of cooks are cooking in the XDA Sense keyboard and I have found it extremely laggy. Glad I found this to install. Thanks.
When I installed the AOSP keyboard, the a and l both have gaps on the side of them and are transparent, is there any way to fix this?
Using the keyboard in Darchdroid has made me like my phone again. The HTC keyboard is so painfully laggy its mindnumbing. The stock Android keyboard is instant and accurate, love it.

Same here. I have been using it for awhile and I like it alot more. The keys are smaller which as I get more accurate I have found I can type faster than on the htc keyboard.
The keyboard is incredible in 2.2 froyo on the evo, but i'd love to see it in 2.1. I've tried to install the apk in froyo through adb to fresh .3, but no avail.
The apk is designed for 2.2, so it cannot be installed on 2.1, and gets a [INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK] error.
So what would need to probably happen for it to run on 2.1 is for it to be decompiled and then recompiled under 2.1. Can anyone help point me in the right direction.
PS if you havent used the froyo stock keyboard, its amazing.
I totally agree! If it's possible, I'd love to use it! The 2.1 stock keyboard doesn't compare to what's in 2.2. So much better!
What are the major differences? Aside from the keyboard and its numbers?
I would be impressed if the keyboard was enabled multi touch.
The 2.2 keyboard has a better way of adding new words, and seems to have better precision.
Any ideas anyone?

I believe this is doable but it'd be a bit of work. Probably would have to start with the 2.2 source and do some hacking since the 2.2 keyboard relies on 2.2 API's for things like voice input.

Cool idea.. but I wouldn't use it. Even his example got cumbersome.. like a zip code. Why not just switch to numeric and type it, rather then dragging up on every character. Plus, the sense keyboard already has these extras programmed into the keys with a long press. Doesn't intrigue me too much.
I use the voice to text all the time as a matter fact i'm using right now.

this keyboard is the best I've used yet. it's like swype except it learns from it's mistakes and adapts to your typing style.
It's in beta so you can try to get on, or if not search for it you can easily find it.
i highly recommend it!

I couldn't cope with the auto correction when pressing space bar .. and if i turned that off it wouldn't suggest words for me. Plus the swype was having problems with the word prediction. They are releasing a newer beta for it soon that should fix some of these problem though may have to re-try it again once that comes out.
