Treo 750 users: "Which WM 6.5 rom is your choice, and why?" - Palm Treo 750

Hello everybody;
i looked at the WM 6.5 roms at this topic but i have no idea that which one was the best and the most stable rom in here. All of them are updated long time ago (2009).
So please Treo 750 users tell me; "Which WM 6.5 rom is your choice, and why?"
Thanks for your advices...

you can try by yourself which is better
no one of the two roms is perfect,
i'm now using the newest one but it has some serious bugs as well
i'm using it since it's newer and have a newer version on winmo 6.5

I'm using MietasSR's rom at the moment, but will be switching back to 6.1 or dumping my Treo in favor of some Android flavor this week.
Both main WM6.5 ROMs (MietasSR's and Navendrob's) have serious deal breaking bugs in them. It's just a matter of what you can put up with.
I know several people have asked both of them to at least post their kitchens if they aren't going to finish the bug fixing work (despite promising they would), but both have disappeared.
Those of us that like the form factor of the Treo and want to keep using it would love to see ROM development continue, but realize that the Treo is long past its prime and well below the radar screen now so updates are unlikely. It's even worse when someone posts something that has potential to be good and then vanishes. I have been holding out hope for continued use of this device for way too long and now I am very close to just being done with it.
As seblog siad, there's really no point in getting responses to the question when it takes 10 minutes to swap them. Just see which one you like better and go with it.

The ole upgrade...

I current have a old Sony Erickson...gay...and a Cingular 3125...love it...when it stays on
Im getting my upgrade....like im elgible now...
I want a smart phone...here is my list
ATT 8525 129.99 Refurb
BB Curve 99.99 Refurb
Palm Centrino 99.99
Palm 750 199.99
Palm 680 149.99
I am only 16....text addict...so i want good texting...My friend has a palm 680(that was supposed to be mine) and i love the threaded text/chat freature that it has. So i found an app for wm5/6 that can do the same. I want to mod my device..so that gives a lean to wm. I like wm b/c of the similarity to my computer. BB seem to be very stable compared to the wm devices. and i hear palm has an outdated os...but thats pretty irrelevant to my life...lol. But the 8525 has wifi...and i would love to have that...but which route would yall go?
anybody...i need some opinions...
Those are pretty much the same phones I looked at when deciding what to buy.
My thoughts were, Blackberry - add on software to expensive and little of it.
Palm OS, Not multitasking
Treo with Windows Mobile, ok, but I have large hands and keyboard kinda small.
HTC 8525, my choice. Best of all worlds. Not perfect, but close for me.
My son just got a blackberry perl, and he loves it. Does lots of texting, but keeps asking me where he can get the games and stuff I have on my 8525. Most aren't even available.
I text quite a bit too, but not like my son, and most of the time I don't open the keyboard to do it. I use a program called Calligrapher, and just write on the screen and have it converted to text. Works great.
Final choice is up to you. Go to a few of the stores in the area, and see how each device feels in your hands. That will help you make the best decision.
Good Luck.
Thanks...and can somebody explain to me how to mod this device...because i just want to put a couple of apps on it..maybe a few games and such...nothing major...i wanted to do some iphone similar interfacing mods...but i probably wont.
so can somebody explain how to upgrade to wm6...and what all this ROM stuff means to me and the performance and customizability of the device?
anyone else
Installing apps and games is very easy. You have 2 basic methods, you can download a cab file directly to the phone and install from there or download a windows installer and install to your phone from the PC through the activesync connection. Most of the applications or interface customizations you talked about would be done in one of these two manors.
Upgrading your device from WM5 to 6 will require to to flash a new rom on the phone. You have many options to choose from when picking a new rom. You can use the generic version from HTC, or go with one of the many custom cooked roms on this site. You just have to read each of the threads for each of the roms to see the pros and cons of each. Just like the phones, there is no perfect choice and you are the only one who can decide which rom is right for you.
These phones can be as easy or as complicated as you want them to be. If this is all new to you, try starting off with the Generic HTC rom, or the official WM6 rom from your carrier, if one exists.
To get started, read the wiki for the hermes and start reading the posts in the hermes forums, and as always, ask questions, but try searching first.
Hope this helps!
anymore opinions as i am very close to my purchase...

Question about the forthcoming HTC Touch Pro 2 & Firestone

Hope this is the right place to ask this.
Will both these devices be running on WM 6.5 out of the box or just the Firestone?
I ask because I have seen conflicting reports on this.
I am told that even if the Touch Pro doesn't come with 6.5 it will be offered as an upgrade by HTC as soon as 6.5 is available?
I never got a Touch HD in the end or X1 because I saw 6.5 was on the way & thought I would wait for that & if I am going to get a HTC device I want to know 6.5 will be in the equation.
Your information is correct. If 6.5 comes out before the new phone, the phone will contain 6.5. If the new phone comes out first then it will contain 6.1 and an upgrade will be available.
While I have yet to see a definitive list, the general concensus is the phones that were released in the last year or so Raphael, Diamond , Blackstone, et.al, will have an upgrade to 6.5 available from HTC, the older Touchs, Kaiser, Titan Mogul, will not have 6.5 updates avaiable.
But around here does it really matter what HTC or the carriers choose to make available ?

That's interesting to hear as I thought they weren't going to offer 6.5 for devices such as the Touch HD. Be interesting to see if 6.1 and 6.5 devices released in 2008/2009 will be able to be upgraded to WM 7.
While HTC's profits lie in selling new phones and there is no profit in supporting older phones, there is a certain PR standard that has to be maintained. I should think that to not offer an upgrade for a phone that was released less that a year ago ( Blackstone ) wouldn't sit well with many customers and potential buyers.
But as I said, around here it is a rather moot point as I was running a 6.1 rom well before 6.1 came out, and have been running 6.5 for over a month, well that is until M$ issued their cease and desist order, at which point I complied and immediately downgraded to 6.1.

We have all probable seen the pictures of how WM 6.5 differs as far as the UI is concerned by how different is it 'under-the-hood' so too speak?

WM 6.5 for Treo Pro for the rest of us...

I have had the SERO plan (free data) from Sprint for over 2 years, which I like, and a Treo 700wx, which I don't like. I am leaning toward getting the Treo Pro, but I need to know that I will be able to upgrade to WM 6.5, or otherwise I've had enough of the unfriendly, slow and buggy WM on my old phone.
Will I be able to install WM 6.5, if I get the Treo Pro? I don't care if it's official or not, as long as it works fine, and doesn't give me any more grief.
If this is possible, can someone please write out detailed instructions about how to get WM 6.5 onto the phone, assuming that they are dealing with a total idiot, as far as WM phones go?
You can't install 6.5 at the moment.
It's anyone's guess as to whether there will be an official upgrade. Palm appears to have forgotten about the Treo Pro, so it seems unlikely (although some say they've heard rumblings that Palm has been testing it).
An unofficial custom rom looks like it might be on the horizon. There's been a lot of work put into it over the past few months. I'd say this is more likely than an official update, although it's still not 100% guaranteed.
Do you think, there will be NO Treo Pro WM6.5 upgrade?
I hope, they will at least support us with this upgrade unless they have stopped working with windows mobile...

At least not an official one. There is now a custom ROM with WM 6.5 and 6.5.1 out there, so it is possible to get it to your TP... if it's CDMA. GSM is a no go still.
Cheers!
rom
Hello, I am one of the biggest noobs in here and I just got a treo pro off ebay from someone for 110....
It has win 6.5 on it and it took forever and a day to change over phones and everything with Sprint.
I am not sure if I like this or not.
I am so new to all of this, cant even sync the dang thing yet.
Help
I will ask the question in another thread just to be appropriate.

AT&T Upgrade to 6.5 for Fuze

WIth the Tilt 2 and WM 6.5 coming will the Fuze see an upgrade or will it be only for the Tilt 2?
Good question, but highly unlikely.
AT&T has already released a new rom for the Fuze with several fixes over 6 months ago. I'd be really amazed if they do offer a 6.5 rom for the Fuze. Though in all reality, i still fail to see why people stick with an oem 6.1 rom when 6.5 has so many improvements.
rumor has it that they're not going to give the upgrade for fuze owners. You'll have to deal with the cooked roms, (which i think really rocks, especially NRG's rom). People don't like trying new things and it's also about the big change from 6.1 to 6.5 which require a slight learning curve. but if you're here, then you're willing to learn.. i hope.
Agreed, huge NRGrom fan here, the latest release (genesis) is really nice!
you'd be quite happy with it - there is not much to fear about cooking. So long as you can have activesync connected to your phone for 10 minutes without interruption for the hardspl and rom install, you're golden (translation, don't try with activesync 3.0 or something really old that may not be reliable)
I personally REALLY like the new start menu for windows 6.5 - especially on newer builds where you can click and hold to move around programs
You will definitely not regret installing a cooked rom (again, my personal vote for newbs goes for EnergyROM)
rumours that AT&T is upgrading samsung jet & epix to wm6.5.
There are changes that fuze will be upgraded too.

Does anybody know of a date yet?
Seeing as how 6.5 is not officially to be released until october 6'th when the windows marketplace goes live, we'll see how long after that so AT&T can 'customize' the experience / Butcher the hell out of the rom.
I have a good feeling as soon as 6.5 comes out we are going to see a LOT more people hate their oem rom's.
i really really doubt there will be a 6.5 upgrade. to get an official rom approved, it requires the check off of the manufacturer (htc) and carrier (att) and maybe microsoft, im not really sure about them and winmo licensing to devices. but it would be easier to only focus on the newest devices. if you really want 6.5 they would prefer you buy a new device with it. ive been running 6.5 on my fuze for forever. it rtm'd in may so thats the real "release date" of 6.5. you dont buy windows mobile so dont focus on dates. new builds come out everday since forever. itll be interesting to see what htc does with 6.5 cause the new builds are ugly. for some reason microsoft decided to "improve" the interface without consulting on htc's design brilliance but whatever. we will see.
Does anyone know if you can install a cooked rom using Vista or Windows 7? I don't have access to a WinXP box right now.
Thanks
of course you can. theres no real difference. i have both vista and 7 for cooking. just right click and click run as administrator.

Really? Seriously? Granted, there are "under the hood" improvements but the UI is a bad joke.
How did it happen that MS can't even line up a grid of icons on a rectangular screen?
I'll tell you how. The artistiicly inclined design folks missed a meeting, and a geek with a slide rule explained how there would be more area for your fat thumb if icons were arranged in a "honycombed" grid.
This absurdity never got caught in time. Too late. Can't change it now. Wait for WM7.
Remember this whenever you look at your device.
Just my opinion. Doesn't matter. Some will be happy with whatever slop MS ships.
Sorry. I couldn't resist.

htc hd2 or htc desire

Hello guys.
I am an owner of Imate Jam or Qtek S100 and after a lot of problems after 4 years that i have bought this phone i want to buy a new one.At first when Htc Hd2 came out i was in love!!! and then the Desire came out recently. After many reviews and comparisons i am in the middle now.I know that maybe they have almost the same features but are different due Android and Windows mobile system.I didn't have problem with Windows mobile(only some resets after some days) but is usual with my phones features and programs i had installed.I love messing around in registry or tweaking.I am confused because i don't want to buy a phone and after one year can find an application to install like windows 2003se and after i learn that windows 7 are coming soon and i will cannot upgrade my phone.I want a mobile to last this time.On the other side i am angry that i cant install applications in SD card(even in s100 i have 4GB installed and is almost full). Also i love the iphone like applications that only android supports some of them.(I know about some clones for wm but is not the same-like i lighter). The other dilemma is the screen and colors.Amoled with 16M with TFT with 256K,the amoled looks brilliant and is new but some they say that is a little pinky in white areas.I was having symbian before windows mobile and now i get used the windows mobile for four years,i will get used to android?or i will regret it?or wait for windows mobile 7?
Any help from you that you own or see from close that phones it will be appreciate.Thank you very much.
Welcome to forums
I personally would choose Leo because of WM
Let us know what you´ve got
Desire. I gurantee you won't like the way the WinMO OS is going within the next few months.
Thanks guys for your reply's but i will be glad if you tell me reasons why to choose the specific phone
I'm on the exact same problem lol, I have a Diamond now (it's almost completely broken now...) but I was a flash addict! That, and the fact that the HD2 might (I use that loosely) get an unofficial upgrade to WP7, and probably will get an Android port later.
Yet, I want the Desire because so many people say they think it's the best phone ever (I remember seeing that on a review in the Desire forum), also the Android version of Sense is absolutely stunning.
Again, the HD2 has an amazingly large screen, but the Desire has a better screen...
Ahh I'm stumped...
Ok, even i am in this prediciment as i want to upgrade from my HD.
I look at things like this :
Do you like android or WM? - For me its WM so i dont need to look at android.
WP7 is indeed going to be a major departure from wm6/6.5 and it is unlikely that the HD2 wont get an official upgrade....................but....
....it was also unlikely that my old Prophet would get a winmo 6 upgrade and it didnt. It did however get cooked winmo6 roms from our chefs here.
So, if you want top hardware and like lightening fast devices and is willing to flash everynow and then when wm7 gets cracked then i would go for the HD2 any day.
Of course, if you want to try something different, think about the iphone with os40........Ok its not an HTC but there are big changes happening in the summer so im gonna wait until then.
You have a point my friend.I like WM but i havent tried android and they look very attractive and i think is the future.I have flash many roms from here(THANKS XDA FOR THE INCREDIBLE JOB) but i dont want to buy 600 euro phone and loose the warranty and greek language support;/ (maybe 1 or 2 years later).I think you have right about the changes will happen in the summer and i know i should wait, except i will get crazy and i will buy the first i will see in front of me
