HTC G1 Keyboard Layout - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hello,
I have a unlocked HTC G1 running firmware 1.5 baseband 62.505.20.17th_2.22.19.261
I would like to move to firmware 1.6. and update the baseband if necesary.
Can any of you genius make a slight modification to a build so that the kayboard layout is QWERTY and not QWERTZ (I am in UK). The phone is originally from Germany so the character Y and Z is swapped. In the past it had been rooted and the characters remapped by a friend but unfortunately as soon as the phone is unrooted the layout reverts back to QWERTZ. I think when the flashing takes place (during unrooting) the phone somehow knows its country of origin and picks up the QWERTZ mapping again as default.
Appreciate any help. Thanks.

Keyboard Bug in Dailpad (TILT flashed to HTC)

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but I flashed my TILT to the HTC ROM (excellent work everyone btw), and after using the device for about a week, I've noticed this strange bug.
Start at the Today screen with the keyboard out
Start dialing by name (example, type V E L M A)
The first letter will work correctly, but when you press L on the dailpad screen, you get an X. The output will be VEXMA instead of VELMA.
Start over (go back to Today screen), and try pressing V V which should bring up "VV", but instead brings up "VT".
Apparently there are some key mapping problems in the dail pad screen at least on a TILT flashed with the Kaiser ROM. I have applied the key mapping fix from the sticky post, and I'd like to see if someone else has this problem too!
In addition, there are MANY letters that do not work correctly, some do not work at all in the dial pad!
Verified here too. It's a bug in the smartdialer when running on the tilt. Will be interesting to see if:
it works ok on a tytn II
everything is ok with the AT&T rom
yes to both = interaction bug (I guessing this will be the case)
Unbranded HTC Tytn II, running HTC stock rom... no problem.
VELMA and VV work correctly.
just tried this on my tilt flashed with an HTC (MFG) ROM and this is definitely a confirmed issue for Tilt handsets flashed with the HTC ROM. Hopefully someone can figure out where the keymapping problems are coming from.
btw, i have TaurusBulba's Tilt keyboard fix installed, have yet to try without his keyboard fix
Nm, fixed my problem.
that is strange I wonder if its in the registry since you are using the same smartdail.dll since you are running the HTC ship ROM. I also confirmed I have no issue on a HTC TyTN II
Hey guys. Fixed the problem. I've updated the Tilt keyboard fix here.
**** taurusbulba i wish i could say the new fix worked but now i get "TEXMA" when i type in VELMA from the today screen
hmmm.... I installed your cab tb & now keys aren't mapping into the smart dialer at all. Pressing from today brings up phone app but not the smart dialer. Is there another reg entry under HKLM\HTC\SmartDialing perhaps?
edit: @Taurusbulba: if you have a tilt running AT&T ROM, can you dump hklm\Software\HTC\SmartDialing & all subkeys plz?
Sure wish I had tools that could dump this ROM...
Try removing the fix via Remove Programs, soft reset, then install the updated cab and soft reset again.
I did this and it worked fine.

Have you done what vasquja mentioned? Uninstall the old, soft reset, install the new, soft reset? It's working perfect for me.
At the moment I'm using a Tilt with the stock HTC ROM. Out of curiosity, what ROM are you using?
Here ya go Sleuth....
youre correct it works now, thanks.

[Q] Gingerbread 2.3.4 keyboard - no auto-correct and punctuation?

Hello
I have a Nexus One on Vodafone and received the Gingerbread 2.3.4 update on Friday (previously had 2.2).
THE KEYBOARD IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! Why does it no longer auto-correct? Or insert punctuation? Or a full stop if I enter two spaces? Or guess what I'm trying to say?!
Any help would be appreciated - (I searched for an answer and found someone with the same problem in December 2010, but no answer was given )
Thanks!
Same problem, i have messed aroind with all the keyboard settings but with no luck. I hope somehow this can be solved.
Thanks,
Malli.

Strange problem with Speed Dial

Hi,
I have a Desire S on O2 UK, I was completely stock with S-ON and no root. I installed most recent update to 1.47 and this FUBAR'd the phone (kept dropping off mobile network and not reconnecting automatically) so I used the method from this thread '[UPDATED]how to root 1.47.161.2 hboot 002 (and possibly others)' to flash it back to 'RUU_Saga_O2_UK_1.31.206.1_Radio_20.28b.30.0805U_38 .03.02.14_M_release'.
I then carried on and used AlphaRevX to S-Off, flashed the Ext4 recovery image and used Gingerbreak to root.
Now when I press and hold 1 on the phone dialler instead of calling my voicemail it calls a fixed speed dial number that I can't change, bizzarely it is assigned to 123 and titled Buzon Movistar!! Key 5 is assigned to 112/Emergencias and key 6 1004/Atencion Cliente.
Does anyone know where these are coming from or how I change it back to the proper numbers?
Thanks
I flashed the pre-rooted Stock HTC 1.28 ROM and this has fixed the problem. Would love to know where those speed dial numbers came from.
I think I can answer this for you..
I've experienced the same problems as you, and HTC have only just recently started admitting there's an issue.
I'm also on O2 UK, but O2 is owned by Telefonica - a Spanish company. The ROM you downgraded to is likely to be the Spanish version and their voicemail code will be 123 rather than 901. So I would very much imagine the ROMs are exactly the same across Europe bar these few local changes.
(123 in the UK is in fact the talking clock, but I guess dialling 901 manually or assigning it to another speed dial would be a small price to pay for having your phone actually work!)
To date, there's no official fix from HTC. Downgrading the ROM is currently the only way that people have been reporting getting their full signal and phone capability back. HTC do not support this and are only replacing motherboards for the same problem to continue.
Nice one, that makes perfect sense but it never crossed my mind.
Hopefully they will release a post 1.47 update that fixes the problem-I'm frankly staggered that such a bad update could be released.
I confirm that flashing back to a stock 1.28 ROM fixes the issue (for me anyway).
Thank you sir.
My absolute pleasure, it's been nice to be able to add a slither of insight into what's becoming a major problem for many.
In the meantime, there's a thread on the Android Forums you might find interesting. Having less than eight posts on here I can't link to it but search on the terms:
"396171-signal-drops-completely-htc-desire-s"
..and you will find it. It's the latest place to my knowledge where we're being able to pool updates. O2 - and possibly HTC too - have seen this thread at least once and know it exists.

Physical keyboard not UK on CM9

Hi
I've just unlocked my UK TF300T, rooted it and installed CM9 (the latest official stable release).
Only problem is that the physical keyboard is no longer UK. The @ key gives me a ", £ gives #, " gives @, etc. There doesn't seem to be any setting to set the language of the physical keyboard.
Any ideas, please?
Rob

[Q] SMS Issue

Hi,
I have an HTC One with the stock Firmware, so I had noticed that when I send a message to any other device, even my HTC One itself, the first 2 characters are trimmed. So I turned around the issue just disabling the special character option in the settings menu. So I use a lot special characters because I'm spanish speaker, any one knows how to solve this issue?
HTC One M7
Android 4.2.2 Stock
Spain CID.
Thanks in advance.
