Linked contacts? questions.

So...I have a contact named Iris. I pin Iris to the home page. Fine. Now when I go into her contact I have the option to link her to another. Fine. I link her to David. I back out to the homepage. WTF?...Iris is now David?..Ok what and why has my Iris "pane" changed to David? I dont understand this. Not only that but if i search my contacts for Iris that name no longer shows up.
Very odd and I really hate this.
Is there a solution?
Hi,
I use the link option only to join together 2 entries in my contact list for 1 person.
For example, I have a friend in my contacts called Jim but his facebook contact name is James, i can link these 2 together to have just 1 entry in my contact list. I think I know what your trying to do - mabye link together a husband and wife or something, I'm not sure if you can do that?
If you unlink your contact you should get both back.
Hope this makes sense.
Hi there,
The link contacts feature is more for linking the same contact but from different sources together.
Say you have Iris on Exchange, the same Iris on FB but with slightly different info including differing email addresses, and say you have the same Iris (but spelt Irisss) in Live. The Link feature enables you to join all these sources together in one view.
Please remember though that this is a "view" and not a single physical contact. All three contacts will remain as they are in their respective areas in the cloud. There is no auto update or merging of data. I've asked this question on another forum and as yet, no response.

Our posts sort of crossed and I forgot to put in what you mentioned above
Yeah! I think yours makes more sense tho lol!
I understand what you guys are saying but if u select links from your contact it suggests names that you should link to...which results in the original contact name disappearing

They are only suggestions and you don't have to link to those. You can continue to search for them.
Funnily enough..... I have a contact for myself on the phone for when you could send your details as a BT transfer or over SMS. Used to use that alot. I'm also on Facebook, but the phone only shows my contact on the phone not the FB contact as well to link too. In fact I cant search for my self either lol.

Yes I know you can search for anyone but what I'm pointing out is that it presents itself as being able to link to separate contacts and that when you do that the original contact "disapears". The way it presents itself isn't the way it works.
it does not disappear only one of the contacts would be showed and the other contacts details is merged in the contact you linked in.
If you want Iris to show than first unlink the contacts and then select David and link Iris...
No it doesn't disappear but if you search for that contact name it doesn't show up any longer.

Is there any way at all to send contact info to a third person via vcard, sms or anything? No cut and paste either - so, do we really have to write it down on paper, then enter it into an sms?

You're missing the point.
The suggestions are there because the OS thinks that the contacts are the same person. This might be because of similar name, similar E-mail or whatever. Personally it has never suggested the wrong people before.
The original contact doesn't disappear, linking is done to link accounts of the same person together. The reason why your original person "disappeared" was because you linked 2 people together who weren't the same person.

[App] QRbook for simple contacts sharing

QRbook
What are you doing when meet your old friend or new people? You share your personal contacts. But how boring is to dictate the phone number and e-mail address. Now you have a solution - just generate your personal QRcode, which your friend simply could scan with camera.
Download free: Search on market "QRbook"

Never happens.
Although it would be nice to be able to 'send' a contact to another phone via a text...

Address & Phone number Linking From WEB Sites

I 've seen it with a G1, that addresses and phone numbers form the web are highlighted and when you klick on them it opens maps.google.com or initiates a phone call. How can I have this feature on my new HTC Sensation. Which browsers support it? Thanks!
The stock browser ("Internet") allows you to tap on phone numbers in order to call them. They are however not highlighted. Try it. Not sure about addresses, but should be supported. I think I heard something like that in a HTC Tutorial ("Show me" app)
Yes, that"s right. When you tap on a phone number whithin Inernet Explorer it copies it to the dialer. It doesn't work with the addresses though.
If anyone knows about an app for that, please share.
Thanks!

How do I email a distribution/contact list in the gmail app?

You'd think this would be a built in feature...I have a group of people I need to email on a regular basis, but the only way I can do it in the gmail app is by "Reply All" to a previous email and delete all the old email/subject...
Why in heaven's name can't I easily email multiple people from the app? I can do it online on my laptop...am I missing something here, or is this just a glaring oversight on Google's part?
Really? Nobody knows this?

Oversight.
Best suggestion, as you've already figured out, is save a draft with the contact info.

Ha, that's a very good point that I had forgotten...
Nothing chaps my ass more than little **** like that that's forgotten/omitted.
A year later, and those fools still haven't updated the app so users can send emails to distribution lists they've setup. Jerks.
A working solution
This method was described somewhere on these forums, and it works. I am just repeating what someone else discovered.
Make a new contact, using a name which is meaningful to you.
For the email address, build a list of the emails for everyone in the group, using this pattern:
[email protected]>,<[email protected]>,<[email protected]>,<[email protected]
NOTE the >,< between each contact, but nothing before the first email in the list, and nothing after the final email in the list.
This works around the missing group function.
Download and use ContactGroupU from the Google Play store.
on your computer go to gmail and add those contacts in some group and call it something for example "912dd" and go on the app and in the "To:" Area start typing the name "912dd" and select it when it shows up

[Q] Auto-send email message from QR-code?

I'm hoping somebody can help me out with this.
I've put a project together where I am using QR Codes to auto populate an email when scanned.
I have 13 Motorola Moto G's that employees are using to scan these bar codes. The employees scan these barcodes, it opens gmail with a pre-populated message, then they hit the send button to send it off.
I'm looking for a way to automate this process so that as soon as the barcode is scanned, the email sends itself automatically.
I've looked at Tasker, and I'm sure its possible... but I can't figure it out.
Currently I'm using the paid qr scanner from Scan.me.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
I think tasker is a good place to start. Can you use one set of data to generate multiple variables? Ex. QR Code has "###@gmail.com message.......text" and then separate the email from the message and post it in the appropriate place.
