Hi I finally got my first "Smartphone"...the HTC Tilt2. I have been looking around for apps to try and a place for any good downloads/games for it and I saw a lot about these forums. So I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction on how to get started. Thanks in advance...

Hey guys, just joined up with this forum. I just purchased the ATT 8525 today and hopefully it will be here in a few days. Is there anything that i should know more about this phone, besides specs and stuff? Anything that i should do when i get the phone? Any advice will be good.
Thanks
Welcome to xda! There is a wealth of information here for your phone. Before your next post:
1. Read the sticky at the top of the Hermes section regarding posting (trust me its for your own good)
2. Get VERY familiar with this section of the site:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
If I were you I would spend some serious time reading through the forums before you decide to do anything to your phone. It will definitiely help you in the long run. Good Luck!
hi and welcome
i'm not as familiar with the unit you have but i think it's also known as wizard....guyz, please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong here... but in any case, scroll down the main forum page and you should see the section dedicated to the wizard. from there you can browse around and check the extremely useful list of topics for the device.
cheers
No..see my signature. The 8525 is a Hermes. I have the same phone.
norwstman30, welcome to xda-devs!!!
please, please, please, please, search and read! everything you will run into IS on this forum and posting a question of what to do when your 8525 (hermes) freezes or drops calls.. etc will annoy the rest of us. The wiki has all you need to know, welcome to owning a great device!
i own the imate jasjam which is the same as the 8525 except its black and has a camera on the front. I'm on at&t aswell in austin, texas... hook 'em horns!
Hey, just joined, purchased the Softbank X01HT, and the person previously installed the english pack. Will definately read through the wiki first.

My advice is to start where most of us started the 3rd sticky down, faq's, wiki, and just trial and error. There is a lot of info but it will all come in handy. Just by doing the stuff yourself and getting your hands dirty, you will have a better grasp on everything. And there is not a lot of personal hand holding here because of all the information. But welcome, and once you start this you won't stop, it really fun!

It's all in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369282
Just read, read everthing
You need HardSPL before you can flash anything. And your ROM and Radio must be compatable when you flash. What that means is explained in there.

thanks for the feedback
Consider this a friendly warning. First Post is a New Thread, not a good start. You are violating the "laws of the land." Search for your answer. Read the Wikis and Stickies! Post your question in relevant thread.
I have over 1000 posts and I've created 0 threads. Because I post my questions in relevant threads.
Anyway, Welcome to XDA-Developers.
Have a look at the Information in my Signature.
I agree
I did it all myself... I just got my tilt last wednesday... takes some reading but it sure beats getting flamed.

Whenever joining a new forum, like visiting a good friends house, learn the customs & house rules straight away.
Take time to read the forum stickie threads at the top of each forum section. Your biggest helper will be the Stickies & the wiki. It's also a good idea to take a look at some of the older threads, specifically Blue Angel & Hermes when it comes to tools as you will learn much of the theory & knowledge that has gone into the tools most take for granted today.
Also, PLEASE post in the appropriate place! The development thread is for Developmental knowledge & issues only.
Thank you!

I have been reading the forums for ROMs for my HTC Shift X9501, HP iPaq hw6945, and HTC TyTN II. I am not sure what is phones are compatible with other phones, but I can be on one forum for one of my phones and then I go to link that is listed in that forum and that the linked forum is for a completely different phone. Is there somewhere that has a list of compatible phones? How do you know that it is okay to put on a ROM that is not under a forum for your phone, but in your phone's forum you were linked to the other forum. I am sorry for the confusion. Now you can see how I got so confused. I would really appreciate anyone's input on this subject.
a rom has to be ran on the phone it was designed for sorry.
Start at the wiki, and I think you'll start heading in the right direction. It has lists of the devices and their "siblings".

Tons of info on this site to sift through!
I have been looking around, trying to get a general idea on how to get started in the wonderful world of Android ROM development.
It seems that information is spread out amongst different sources, and that there isn't really anywhere that has all of this information together (to my knowledge at least).
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction, and or assist me in any way. It would be much appreciated! ^.^
I have been following stuff here on XDA for a while, and just finally decided to make an account. So, I apologize if this is posted under the wrong section, and/or this question has been asked a million times before. I know how annoying that can be. I searched around before I made this post, so I don't believe I am re asking a common question, unless of course I missed something.
Thank you all!
Here are couple of sources

Those Links are exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
Anyway, I'm glad you've found that, but notice that on future you'll have to make some research to look what you've benn looking for, about certain things at least... you can found tweaks and "how to" on devs general section, but you can also find some in device's forums... there's no one section in wich you'll find all you need while working on a ROM
Hi everyone, First post. Hope im not breaking any rules.
Anyway, to the point. I am interested in becoming a dev for android. My question is do any of you know a good thread or site that will help me learn what i need to know to start?
The "SEARCH" button should be your best friend right now, since your new. It will keep the bickering down from other members. I suggest you think about which device you want to develop for, then go to the said devices development forum, and there you will find all the tut's you need. If you wanna develop applications, then go to the Android themes and apps section, and SEARCH for "tutorials". Then you should Google the things you wanna learn cuz there's many great tutorials around that are not on this site. I can tell you now, that your gonna be reading for a while. Search, search, and when you think you've come to your end, and can't find the answer, search again. There's a "SEARCH" button at the top right hand corner of each and every forum here.
Hope that helps.
