Hey Xda,
For a HTC Desire and a speaker dock, I am really struggling to find a short 20-30cm cable which doesn't have straight plugs at either end.
I have searched and cannot find a short cable with the 'L' plug at both ends...
I think it would be great for everyone who has an iPod dock or any dock with an Aux in to find a perfect 3.5mm cable that is portable and easy to use without port stress.
The long plugs are unsightly and also put pressure on the sockets in the desire and dock, with the cable I have now.
I am not a dab hand at wiring... I don't have a soldering iron.
And on that note I also would like it to hold together multiple unplug-plugs as it is a portable social dock kinda thing, lol.
I can only have the L plug at One end with everything I can find... here is a diagram of what I wish it could be like!
(I have plugged the single L I have in both)

It is really annoying, I just can't find any that are <30cm in the UK!
Even Hong Kong eBay doesn't have short ones!
The shortest I can find is Three Ft Long!
Anybody have any clues on this trail?
Thanks
Create 1 ur self?
Get 2 plugs and the appropriate wires and solder the things together.
If you cant find the appropriate wires just get cheap ass earplugs for a euro/pound/dollar orso cut off the ear plugs and attach a new mp3 3.5mm jack at the end and ur done. This means you only need 1 plug and 1 set of earplugs.
I replace connectors of my earplugs all the time if they fail and they do fail allot XD.

Hey,
Thanks for replying, but in the post it says I don't have a soldering iron or anything, not everyone does lol.
I would rather just spend £2 on a solid cable instead of buying earphones and making something really weak
I wouldn't want to "replace connectors of my earplugs all the time if they fail and they do fail allot" haha
If anyone thinks of a link on a decent cable, please post your ideas in here.
Thanks
soz mate over read it
and about the failing i mean the failing of my earplug mp3 3.5mm jack cauz it gets alot of stress at the point the cable enters the plastic housing of the jack(This happens the first time with the original jack and then i keep soldering new ones on so i can still use the earplugs). This is the cauz of lots of movement inside my pocket when im cycling. You cant realy avoid this stress if u wear your phone inside your pockets of your pants ;-).

That is exactly what I am looking for, lol, but...
It literally in my case needs to be a minimum of about 20.5cm to reach from phone to dock if It's sitting on the dock Haha.
That is an amazing keeper link though, thank you!
15cm is just a little too short haha, fussy days.
Cheers

My vibration motor in the Nexus s broke. Now I want to replace it. I'm planning to order this motor: http://www.tvc-mall.com/details/Replacement-Vib-Vibration-Motor-for-All-Samsung-Models-SAMO-SAM/
I opened up my Nexus to a degree where I could see the motor, but I couldn't see how the wires are connected. Do I have to braze the wires or can I just plug them in or how does it work?
Thanks!
Are you positive it is broken? Mine stopped working on me a few times before. I would tap the phone firmly, powered it off and tap again and reboot. Problem solved. Just a fyi

Yes I'm sure it is broken.
Thanks tylerwatt12, for that picture.

A 15W soldering iron should run you around $10 US.
I highly recommend soldering wires on random scrap if this is your first experience at soldering or you're gonna end up with a mess.
Edit: Or you can cut the wires, strip the ends, twist them together and solder (then cover them with heatshrink/electrical tape).
Should be easier for a beginner to do this than solder on tiny pads and remove epoxy from a PCB.

Thanks, pretty stupid, I didn't think of that. I might not even have to solder at all if i twist them together tightly and then bind them with tape.
riichii, have you managed to do it? I'm positive my vibration motor is broken as well, but I cannot find an exact replacement online. A friend of mine had a broken samsung j700 lying around so I salvaged the motor from it and soldered it in my nexus s, but it didn't work (you could hear the motor rattling, but it wasn't vibrating enough, it was less than my broken original motor). I was wondering if the part you linked was working or not. Thanks
I bought this dock for my wife's Sensation, and tried it on my MT4GS, and it fitted without a problem.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007CU1XZM
when the HTC Sensation is fitted, the headphone socket is obscured, but with the MT4GS you can slide the display up of course and expose the headphone jack. It does shift the centre of gravity which could be a problem.
the fit is quite tight you if you do have a case you'll have to remove it - or at least the case back if you have the keyboard open.
if anyone wants, I'll take a photo with it fitted.
I guess you could drill out a whole for a headphone....

The phone sits pretty well, the keyboard is a little bit slid out as the phone is a bit thicker, and there's no access to the power button. Pretty good thing for 9 bucks value. I'm considering about adopting this dock for my car and it would be nice to have audio-out also there at the same time. Anybody done this?

Well, I bought different dock (also for Sensation) for $10, which you can see in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710736
I had the same idea as you do, to use it as a "stand" in my car. I have tried that in a "dry test" and it seemed like a good idea at first, so I ordered second dock and when it arrived I just placed it on rubbery-gel mat on my dashboard and voila - good to go, or so I thought.
Unfortunately when I started to drive with it, the phone rattles. Placing thin rubber strips didn't help, it only eliminated the noise, but the phone was still (silently now) rattling there on the dock while driving. I was afraid this constant vibration will damage the microUSB port sooner or later, since the port is the only thing holding the phone on the dock, and after couple days I quit using it. Also inserting and removing phone to/from dock wasn't comfortable, because my windshield is at pretty high angle I couldn't just insert phone into dock or remove it from dock, unfortunately I had to take the whole dock towards steering wheel to do it.
I'm just placing my phone on a dashboard mat against the fold (so it stays in horizontal mode upright) and plug the sound cable from my wifi transmitter and power cable if needed. This way is the most convenient way for me. If I won't forget I'll take some pictures.
Anyways, I would strongly advise against using any desktop docks in a car, because - regardless of dock's model or shape - they all have 1 thing in common: phone is being hold there just by the microUSB plug, which is not designed for this purpose, and it is rather delicate and easy to damage (once I broke miniUSB plug in my HTC TyTN II just by slightly prying phone into the dock because I was too lazy to get up in my bed... and the miniUSB socket by design is way sturdier than this crappy microUSB socket in our MT4GS).
Driving will cause the phone to shake/vibrate/rattle in the dock on your dashboard, and I am sure it will cause damage to the microUSB port sooner or later.
HTH
Thanks for the advice. Went to ebay for the official mytouch car kit with holder (with intergrated micro-USB connector) and found one for just a 10.5 bucks + S&H cost. Unfortunately, that seller doesn't ship internationally So I found another one, this time it costed total of 28 bucks. But for such price I get an ultimate solution.
Nice
I've had my nexus 5 for a couple weeks now and started using it instead of my iPod classic for music since I can access all my songs at work through google play.. Well, when I do use my phone to listen, not only must I remove the official bumper case, but the tiniest little bump of the headphone jack will cause it to pop out. It's as if it is spring loaded and ready for the slightest touch. I'll have it in my pocket and if I get bumped, the music will shut off because the phone thinks the headphones have been taken out.
Anyone confirm this issue? Should I RMA? My headphones have a custom cable made using a Neutrik NTP3RC-B 3.5mm plug so it's not like the connector is crappy. It's a professional quality connector..

If there's nothing stuck in the jack, There could be a chance that the custom plug is not thick enough, or too short as well, I'm able to try 3 different
Headphones on 2 nexuses 5 and all combinations click in strongly. The cases i use have a big aperture though.
Try with another headphones before anything.
Here are two different plugs. One being the culprit, one being a $2 cheap cord that indeed plugs in fine. The neutrik adapter doesn't seem to click flush like the cheap cable.. Don't understand why, they are the same length..

Looks like that dome it has at the base of the connector isn't agreeing with the N5's socket. Guess an option would be to use an adapter. I use a portable amp myself so I never encounter this problem.

Makes sense. Kinda crappy. I noticed inside the headphone jack at the bottom there is a little piece of blue plastic which has some marks in it from the headphone plug. I'm guessing this is preventing it from clicking fully, but I also assume that it is there to keep dust/dirt out of the inside of the phone.
Every phone I've ever owned always has some issue with the headphone jack that drives me crazy. I don't have the need for a headphone amp as I use Shure SE535 IEM's which are insanely easy to drive. I'll just stick with my 160GB iPod
Hi folks, several days ago I bought an 18cm high GSM antenna (really cheap, about $5 if I convert it to USD), and also bought a cheaper (if I convert it to USD it will be $0.66) SMA connector for it, and realized that the antenna connectors of the Sensation are on it's back cover, so I could simply connect the antenna to the phone.
well, first of all you'd better to watch W2AEW's awesome video about Decibels to actually understand what you're doin'.
here's the antenna I've bought (the seller told me it's 18cm high but it's 19.5cm :silly:

and this is the SMA connector, before you buy the connector, you have to find out if your antenna's connector is male or female. in my case it was male so I bought a female connector for it:
then you have to solder some wires to your antenna, one for the ground and another for the signal. coaxial cable is the best solution because of lower noise but it's so thick, here is some antenna wires I just found with a quick search on Ebay, and they're not that thick. also keep wires as short as possible, in my case I just wanted to test the antenna so didn't care about the wires:
the two connectors above the camera on the back of the phone are for WiFi, and the two below the SD Card are for GSM. so I connected the wires of antenna to the bottom ones, and, here's the result:
with the original antenna (which is the cover door of the phone):
without any antennas (without cover door):
with the external antenna:
I'm planning to drill a hole on a cheap cover door and mount the antenna on the cover, and also add some more antennas like GPS and WiFi. (then probably it won't fit in any pocket :silly:  )
if you tried it too, please hit the thanks button. :good:

another thing I wonder is that if we can add an external antenna without loosing the 3G capability.
edit: I'm working on adding the antenna beside internal antenna so it will have both EDGE and HSDPA.
Thats really cool!
Will have a try this week
It works and increases the db, but unfortunately it doesn't solve my problem, I wanted to keep in touch in a place which is far away from the operator antennas, but it doesn't help me because of the huge distance, maybe I should switch to another operator. so I discontinue this project but it doesn't mean that it doesn't work.

Many of my headsets and other stuff with mini jack won't go all way in my Galaxy S6. They doesn't reach the "click", and the connection is fragile, many times it moves a micrometer out, and then the phone thinks i have unplugged the device.
Is it a known issue or do I have to turn the phone in?
The problem is with the head phone jack and not the phone . You will need to trim some of the headphone jack coating. I had same problem with my favorite headphones.

Maybe there got some dirt inside. Turn off your phone and try to carefully sweep inside with a needle or something.

I would not recommend poking around with a needle in there. The battery will still be connected, so current might still be present in that part of your phone and you might short something. Second reason: You might just break the contacts with the needle. Better use a flashlight and try to see if anything got in there. Because if not, it's not worth poking around.

actually, no. The power through the headphone jack is so small that it wont do anything. And just dont use force on the jack. dont think a needle would break the contacts versus the headphone plug. A headphone plug gets put in with more force.

There is nothing wrong with phone, it's the headphone jack(plug) itself! Just need to trim a little of the coating on the headphone jack. Had same exact problem with my favorite headphones.

Got to agree here, I've used atleast 6 or 7 different headsets and all work fine. But to rule out this theory that it's the headphones is to use the official Samsung ones and if the issue is there then it's the headphone jack on the phone that's faulty
This is what I had to do to get headphone to go all the way in. Just trim the end a little. You can see how little I had to remove of the coating to get that click when I push in the headphone jack. Had to do it to 3 different headphone (all non-samsung headphones). Samsung headphones go in fine.

My problem is on the other end, because none of my coatings are in the way. But thanks.
I have sawed off some of the end of some of the plugs, and that helps a little, but the click is still weak, and the plug can fall out when moving the cable hardly
