Root generic HTC Desire without goldcard? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi guys i'm new to andriod but want apps2SD.
I have a generic HTC desire which i bought simfree.
Its got RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122704.exe firmware
Now every guide i read it says need a gold card but some people say because its generic i do not need the goldcard.
can some one give me a how to do this without gold card for my stock htc desire.
I do not need custom firmware, happy with HTC one just want apps2SD
Thank you

Basically, you follow the tutorial, but ignore the goldcard bits.
Mine is also a simfree Desire, and I rooted it today with no goldcard.

cheers,
did u install apps2sd? hows that working on ur desire?
* here is a good how to www.android-tech.co.uk

i have a HTC Desire with
HBOOT 0.80
Radio-4.06.00.02.2
its a generic Desire, from which part do you start without goldcard instructions, tried to follow the guide on modaco by Paul, but the instructions to me seem as if they were written by someone with a lot of technical intelligence but lacking in the finer art of writing tutorials
bit like a tourist asking for directions from a taxi driver:
go down the road and take a right, then take a left, do a 270° turn
when what he meant was:
go down the road for 2 miles, when you see a pub called "The Red Lion", take the immediate right after that, go down that road for 1 mile, take the next left by the phone box, when you get the roundabout, take the third exit
im new to Android phones but not new to computers but that guide baffled me, i was going to check google translate to see if they had a translator for technical jargon written tutorial to plain english
so can anyone help me out, cant find much info about rooting the desire without the goldcard!!
thanks

N00b needs help! (be nice we were all N00bs once!)

So i have made the upgrade from the HTC touch 3g to this lovely peice of kit! Bought it on eBay and it is currently branded and locked to Vodafone. Here are my few questions!
First of all! The bastard I have bought it off seems to have passworded the device and he doesn't know what the passcode is! How do I get past this little pickle?
Secondly. I understand one of you lovely people have a sim unlock proggy for this phone. How easy is it to unlock from vodafone UK to Orange UK? The guys in the phone shops would charge me £30 to unlock it!!!
Thirdly... can anyone recommend a good ROM to flash it to? I want to debrand the phone but I want the standard (or as close to it) original ROM.
Please go easy on me! We all started out life as n00bs! Any help would be much apprechiated!
Being a noob is a good reason to ask many questions - but not an excuse for such a poorly written post.
Please read the forum rules - especially points 1 & 3.
3. Post only using a clear subject and message.
1. Search before posting
However - i'm in a good mood today so:
To remove the passcode simply hard reset the phone (read the wiki for instructions)
To remove the sim lock look here
To choose which rom you want - please read the rom forum - there are lots to choose from and you will probably want to try a couple before you decide which one to stick with.
Ahh many thanks for starting me off and massive sorry for the poor post! I think i was in a rush when I received the package to get it up and running!
welcome n00b

We need to Declare boycott on Htc Magic

I bought my Htc Magic in Hong kong last August.
I paid for it more than $620 (usd) after I found that the seller tried to cheat me.
I root it and my last rom was MyHero 2.0.5 with Official SenceUI on HTC Kernel 2.6.27 and it allmost worked perfect in my languge.
After that on 17/11/09 when some guys here where "happy to annonce" about the official senes upgrade I did it and since then I'm stuck with a piece of ***** and I'm gonna loose my money after I lost some days of work and 4 sleepless nights.
I feel like somebody rapped me because I can't even downgrade to the rom version I hade when I bought my Htc Magic.
It makes me sad because if HTC wouldn't release us I don't know if I'll ever buy any machine from theme again.

Power to the people - the boycott as a democratic action
I think you're being a bit extreme... I own the HTC Magic and I'd gladly buy another if I broke this one...
There are methods to downgrade your HTC Magic back to the MyHero ROM. I upgraded to the Official HTC image and downgraded back to CyanogenMod in the same night with no troubles at all. Have you even tried the goldcard method? Have you done any research and reading?
And besides, crap like this belongs in the General forum where nobody will read it anyway.
Sounds like you're over reacting completely.
Instead of complaining about something that may, or may not, be HTC's fault you could try explaining your problem properly and seeing if anyone can help you fix it.

It is HTC's fault, as they made it almost impossible for us to get rid of the perfect SPL, as they should listen to us! and let us to do what the.... we want with our phone!
The perfect SPL he is talking about is not breakable for now! nobodey can do anything about it not even GOOGLE!
XDA is here because of the leak of support from HTC from the first place , it always has been and will be HTC's fault when people here get stuck with this kind of ****!
I will start making a dialogue with htc on Tweeter later today , we should show what we want.
My proposal is ==> let thous who want, register their phone on HTC.com and loose their warranty for ever and then let them have a S-Off spl so they can do whatever they want with their phones.

A: Its your fault its "broken"
B: What do you define as broken?
C: Can you fastboot it, ADB it.... anything??
D: post some info and we can maybe help you fix it.
E: Post in the proper place.
F: You can't boycott a product everyone loves, and even when the few break it, they buy a new one or have HTC warranty fix it (paid or not)
Z: Post some info, and we can maybe help you fix it.
J: Post some info, and we can maybe help you fix it.
P.S
I know this is going to come up, but please don't blame bad English on not being able to get/request help.. if you spent 6**(usd) on it, paying 10 usd to a friend to help you properly translate it, would be worth it IMHO.
It is NOT HTC's fault!
Can you imagine if they made it easy for every idiot on the street to install the wrong image on their phone and then send it back for warranty?
They use a 'perfected' SPL in order to protect their warranty department and their proprietary software and hardware. If you want a completely open platform then you shouldn't have bought an HTC phone.
Now really, if you don't want the perfected SPL, then DO SOME READING!!! There are instructions on this very forum on how to create a GoldCard that will allow you to flash an older HTC RUU that does not have the perfected SPL. I know because I tried the RUU that you're running on your phones and I'm now running CyanogenMod 4.2.5 with SPL 1.33.2010 and a custom recovery image.
Quit the *****ing, do some reading, and shut up already!

regardless of what you think, it is your fault, you made every decision to "HACK" the "known working" software and thus broke it.

This will, be exactly what we (people with rooted, death spl bla bla bla) have. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what ADP2 is for??
did you nandroid back up before you flashed the new rom? Why not just flash over the current rom that you have. Doesn't sound like your problem is that extreme. Can''t see why your having a problem. Any alteration of the OS that came with the phone would be your fault for changing that. But if you were smart enough to root and flash a custom rom, you should be able to get yourself out of this. Unless, someone did it for you. In that case. Hold them responsible. Good luck. I'm sure your not happy with this advice

Lol, angry opinionated poster FTW. Probably should have used an XDA dev's senseUI ROM instead then shouldn't he, as his previous ROM was working so well.
XDA is here to offer choice and because some people enjoy customising their devices - you then have the majority of HTC Magic users who wouldn't know what an SPL was if it hit them in the face, and are perfectly happy with their official sense ROM from HTC.
It's a matter of perspective, and yours and the OP's seem to be rather slanted. Have fun enlightening HTC about their wrong doing, but you're not making a very strong point here as you know the risks of flashing your phone - maybe he should have read up about perfect SPLs before he flashed his device.
Good luck
And if the OP would have waited a couple hours after seeing the Official update posted, he would have noticed that somebody very quickly deduced that the HTC update would install the 'Perfected' SPL.
You can't blame anyone else for your impatience and ignorance.
I Have the official HK sense rom 32A and I need help

sorry for my English.
i didn't breack the phone it works fine.
the problem is that I can't put my languge, as a lot of people here.
I spent all my time in reading and aearching s solution.
see as an exampale in the first post in this forum:
"right the SPL obviously doesnt like remote writing of the recovery, dont worry trying this wont **** up your device. i was trying to achieve what the oneclick root method does which basically just writes a recovery to the device to bypass the SPL but, it obviously wont allow remote flashing through ADB. il be back today to include the flashrec.apk within the rooting method unless i quickly devise a script to run off the device to flash the recovery ..... il be back
I apologise for this people i am on it. i just dont have a device with a perfected SPL to test it myself.

With a perfect SPL, not really. That thread you "quoted" from is your best bet if the goldcard method doesn't work on this SPL. redmc said he would be working on it, so worth a shot if you're really that screwed.
Or maybe send Amon_ra a well written PM asking if he knows a solution using a goldcard.
Nice guy nice baby you behave as a baby (baby face)
How i can know all this that i canoot root is as the original rom.
Isn't it an "open code"
That made very little sense to me. redmc is working on a way of breaking perfect SPLs with his Relentless Rooter software - so wait and see.
Android is open source, but this isn't the OS you're having an issue with, it's the SPL.

Lol, well considering you have no other options, that sounds like a good idea - and what I just suggested.
I'd say good luck, but I've got the feeling any amount of luck will be of no use to you whatsoever..

How to root perfected SPL HBOOT-1.33.0006 (HTC Magic 32B Vodafone NL)?

Hi everyone,
Although there is many information available on how to root all kinds of SPL, it still seems to be very hard to root the perfected SPLs, in particular the on I have on my phone.
I'm not that kind of a wizzkid, but some geniusses are around here, so hopefully somebody can help me in cracking this nut... uhm phone...
Since I'm really getting annoyed by some of the limitations Google or Vodafone have been putting on this phone, I would love to root it and get rid of them asap.
I'll even would like to think of a reward if somebody would be able to help me out !!
Thanks a lot!
Flo
Same here...
I know it's probably for the-flo a disappointment to see this reply, but I am facing the same problem and hope we might get more help on our annoying problem if we provide some more details and information.
I tried (in random and repeatingly order, im also not a wizzkid, but so far I even wasnt able to screw it up (happens normally), that much Voda and/or Google and/or HTC closed it all up, hmrpf...):
- flashboot
- hboot (via SDK)
- flashrec
- rooting (also several goldcard methods, with several SD-cards)
- flashing
- updating
- recovery
All the time problems like: "fastboot: remote not allowed", "Update failed, CID incorrect", "Update failed, unknown error", etc. It's driving me (and my gf, lol) crazy! (She has the Legend, I'm freaking jealous, of course...)
I think the problem is, there is still no proper Sappimg for our phone-models. And believe me, I tried a view in the meanwhile...
I have:
HTC Magic 1.6 (updated officially from 1.5 original) created by Google provided by Vodafone

I'm impressed how many people already did the trick (I googled my ass off and read almost every possible thread about it), but am desperate to be able to do it myself too!
Hope somebody replies on our scream for help???
Ow, and the reward the-flo is talking about, will defenitely be sponsored by me for the one with the right solution!!!

Haha, ok, ok, this must sound funny, but I really did it!
With this tutorial:
androidworld.nl/forum/htc-magic/4714-tutorial-om-magic-te-rooten-met-goldcard.html
BUT combined with creating a goldcard (brand Transcend 8GB) with this tutorial:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683
I'm now at the point of flashing to 5.0.8, but after I created the goldcard and saw the update was finally going from the hboot-screen, i really couldnt believe what I saw.
Ok, I'm helped for now, wow, what a good and massive work has been done here by all developers, really impressive!
Keep it going!!

[Q] I need help so I dont brick my phone!

I just got an HTC HD 2 today from a friend, and it already has a version of android on it. I dont know how to replace the android files without messing up the phone. Can someone help or walk me through this?
i know this aint help but have u tried the hd2 section
also is your name from coheed and cambria lol!
I have looked through the section and I cant find anything on how to replace the files. Yes it is. The greatest band ever!
sry i dont know anything about the hd2 and yes sir you are correct i just saw them in dallas for the neverender tour 4 hours of nothing but coheed it was amazing my 3rd show i may add new orleans, little rock, and dallas!
you shld be able to ask the same question in that thread im sure someone will be able to help
If your friend was so generous to give you that nice piece of hardware I´m sure he can guide you to replace the Android OS with that Microsoft crap. Your friend has invested some time and energy in the modification of his phone so he would be interested in having you enjoying it, too, wouldn´t he?
To be able to help it would be useful to know if android rom is nand (ie has replaced the original wm6.5 os) or is running from sd card.
When you boot up the phone, does magldr load?
I would suggest you do go over to the hd2 forum and look at the sticky threads, tey have all the info you will need to change/update android to something newer or even change os completely to say wp7?
If your droid is nand, it is very simple to update, just head over to the HD2 nand forum
Cheers.
Thank you everybody for being kind and not throwing noob slanders at me. The friend who gave me the phone actually bought it off of someone who put android on it haha so this nice phone is a hand-me-down for sure.

[Q] New to Rooting

I will be the first to tell you I am not tech savvy at all! I have been doing some research with regards to this and have used many resources avail, including this site.
I have read most of the answers to my questions but still require assistance. I have the HTC Desire with with my local internet provider Cox Communications and I have a 10.2 inch tab through wowpad that is powered by Android supertab. It is operating on 2.1. My HTC is 2.2. I am very new to the smart phone world and tablet world.
Is there a way to just simply upgrade my tab to a new OS? Do most of you feel that rooting my phone is the way to go, because I never ever have storage that I need. I know it comes down to a personal choice. Or, will my phone eventually upgrade to a new OS?
I really want to do my tablet but honestly I literally need step by step directions in doing so. If I mess this up on my own, my wife and daughter will kill me. Thanks in advance to all of you. This is truly the best site in the world!
How would rooting your phone solve your storage issue?
More Storage
From what I understand, I will have superuser rights and that would allow me to delete some of the stock programs to free up space. Is that right?
Help
Is there anyone out there willing to help with this issue? It would be greatly appreciated.
This Sucks
Ummmm Wow! I thought I would get some help with this, but I guess not. I guess I'll try another site.
Take it easy, look up your device in the forums and look for how to root.
It's not that hard to do and most devices have a manual how to.
Take a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044
Thank you
Thank you krt. That is exactly what I needed. Thanks again.
