Google Goggles - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hi,
i was wondering if there's such an/similar application for Win Mobile 6.5 (to be used with HTC HD2)
Thanks,

Not yet unfortunately (not from google anyway), although they say they plan to support other platforms (inc. windows mobile) in a future release (I guess once they've used it to enhance/promote the android platform for a while). They will probably come good on that as they did with voice search on their google maps app.

Thanks mate for bothering to answer. I guess all other forum users are only able to ask questions and none-to-very-few are capable of providing an answer!
Thanks again!

Google Maps Navigation (Beta)

Anyone know when this will be brought to our beloved Topaz?
http://www.google.com/mobile/navigation/#p=default
It looks great.
I read an article about it yesterday but there is no date for a release. I think there will be no WM release till it's a stable release.
Just read carefully:
Google Maps Navigation is an internet-connected GPS navigation system with voice guidance. It is part of Google Maps for mobile and is available for phones with Android 2.0.
Wow. Looks fantastic. I did come across this a little while ago but I think that its someones own program that just uses Google Maps as a background.
I was told by a friend who has a friend who works for Google that there are currently no plans to port Google Navigator to Windows Mobile. They are looking into bringing it to the iPhone, and it's obviously going to be released for Android 2.0 devices, but that's it.
I really, really hope they change their minds...
Why does everyone hate Windows Mobile? iPhone and now Android get all the love, and we have to beg to get some of the nicer programs...
we just have to port android faster

I call shenanigans. The same was almost certainly said for every major new feature in the current google maps (even google maps itself), but then it all showed up for us windows mobile users too. It doesn't make good business sense for google to ignore part of the market/userbase.

are you stupid? just because 1 app isnt on wm everyone hates it? Its just a platform exclusive, its just like how wm has windows live, my phone, media player, office etc... win mobile os alone is better then android 1.5, 1.6, 2.0.... windows mobile has some of the best apps running on its the platform and your complaining over some cheap turn by turn gps map software? Nav N Go's iGO 8 is probably better than this

Looking at his contributions to xda he certainly is not even close to being stupid.
igo8 costs a lot, pay even more for TMC traffic updates, and keep paying for updated maps. Google Navigation is free. Plus had street view feature which is not available in any other PND.
Google Navigation has already been submitted to apple for approval, so it is not a platform exclusive feature. Accept the fact, windows mobile is loosing respect. Even as a platform. Mio navigation is moving to android. TomTom has moved to linux already. Garmin has it's own platform. Windows CE hasn't recived any good updates for a long time. It won't be long before most of these cool navigation softwares will disappear from windows. I like my phone a lot.. but ocasionally I find myself compromizing. I can't even use my phone to it's full potential without using a custom ROM.
You are not really having an argument about googles release strategy, are you?
Google Maps Nav will come for WM quite soon. The fact that it was released now first for Adroid is not really a reason to argue here, is it?
For me windows mobile never again.
(Awaiting for a serious maemo.)

ok, but just to tip you on somthing it dosent matter what os, platform, manfacturer etc, you'll always have to do some sort of customization to get the best out of the product.
i just brought a mytouch 3g and to tell you the truth, ive done just as much flashing as my touch diamond 2 n i am far from satisfied with it. I hope htc continues to make ui's for android b/c they are surely turned wm into a dream.

[APP]Skype 3.0

I have been searching for ages but unable to find skype for my HTC HD2... well my troubles came to an end last night! some time after midnight.
I am sure this may have been posted here before but i couldnt find it, possibly because i suck at searching, but anywhos, for anybody who cannot find skype for their HTC HD2 or for that matter any WinMo Handset here it is.

i have the PPC version installed on my HTC and the only issue is on the create account screen, and you will need to download a patch that fixes the sound coming out of the wrong speaker
i think this is the correct one i am at work atm and havent had a chance to test it can somebody confirm this is the right patch?

Just look at this explanation!

Why can’t I download Skype Lite or Skype for Windows® phones?
Unfortunately, Skype Lite – a version of Skype for your mobile phone – and Skype for Windows phones are no longer available for download from our site.
We’ve chosen to withdraw Skype Lite and Skype for Windows phones because we want to offer our new customers an improved mobile experience – much like the version that has proved so popular on the iPhone, and which is now available on Symbian phones. Our focus is on providing a rich user experience that allows you to enjoy free Skype-to-Skype and low cost calls as easily on the move as you do at your desktop.
We felt that Skype Lite and Skype for Windows phones were not offering the best possible Skype experience.

What is skype. I've heard about it for these past 2 years but never bother to check it out.
I just went to the official website and the only thing I got from it was People paying for a skype credit to use skype services such as "free calling" and not using mobile minutes.
Can someone tell me what use do you use skype on their HD2 for? It seems like its great but I am not convinced enough to try it out.
I can upload to u a skype cab. but I suggest to use fring, since it allows to speak with earclip. voice experience provided by skype.cab is very bizzarre...the only loadspeaker will work!
I have Skype 3.0 for Windows Mobile which must be executed from your PC and an Active Sync connection and I have it installed on my Rhodium and it works great via Wi-Fi and wherever I have 3G. As just mentioned there is a CAB version available as well. I don't get this decision to make it unavailable to Windows Mobile users given that Verizon Wireless has Windows Mobile devices in their stable and if you get your hands on 3.0 for WM devices why no love for these devices?

What a shame... they cant develop good interface for winmo and they blame it easily on the OS itself
There is nothing the HD2 cant do what an iPhone does but there are a million things the HD2 can do but the iPhone can not

Skype no longer available for WM phones

If you are a skype heavy user with your mobile (as myself), let me tell you that is no longer available for download in the skype's website. They state the following:
"We’ve chosen to withdraw Skype Lite and Skype for Windows phones because we want to offer our new customers an improved mobile experience –much like the version that has proved so popular on the iPhone, and which is now available on Symbian phones".
So...if you have installed skype for wm in your phone, you will only have 2010 to still used it.
read the whole thing here
Can I still use Skype Lite if I already have it?
Yes. People who have already installed Skype Lite can continue to use it throughout 2010.
Can I still use Skype for Windows phones if I already have it?
Yes. People who have already installed Skype for Windows phones can of course continue to use it.

On the second question they do not say anything about stopping after 2010...
So?, do they will launch another version later?, or will be gone forever?
skype is not giving a detailed explanation on what will happen after 2010 finishes...
Hope they do something about it
Thanks for the article

You problably are right orb, my first impression was...mmm...maybe they are preparing skype for Windows Phone 7....but if they shutdown the service (app compatibility) by the end of this year for WM, I'll be scre**d....because I'm still planning to have my HTC devices until next year. I still have my Nokia which was a present, but my primary device is the Kaiser....man I love WM..and seen this makes me consider to migrate to other OS.

windows mobile for Android mobile devices

Please,
I'd like to know if is it possible to have a dual boot
for android mobile device (acer liquid) and windows mobile
thanks
I'd love to know about this too. Android's been impressing me on my FUZE, but I'm not entirely willing to dive in without a safety net.
If I could look forward to an AT&T version of Incredible in the future (or something similar) that would allow me to slip into WinMo if need be, I'd love it.
Or even better... an Android-native app that would launch WinMo apps. that way I'd be able to port over my beloved KinomaPlay. ^^d
Retro users?
Hi there,
I tried to search the question's forums and turned up to "no thread" on the subject.
When I tried to start one (and only then) I bumped into it!
Ok, I've being using Android for sometime now and do like it some but from time to time I just miss to have a smartphone that don't keep upgrading it's apps all the time!
Unfortunately there have been no decent WM phone on the brazillian operators of late (no Wm7 down here) and I quite could not leave the "eCompass" behind (saw no WM phone with it!).
Just now I'm waiting for some Nokia WM phones but until then...
(Possible I imagine that it is but)
... is there some hotshot out there to fix a WM version on an Android Device (like Defy or Galaxy Tab)?
C u!
There are quite a few compass apps on the Android Market.... Can you describe something unique eCompass does that you haven't found an adequate replacement?
Ah, before I go...
... Just to sign on the thread notification!
Just to the records...
(It appears that I was misunderstood and that my previous attempt at explaining it was unsuccessful!)
I was saying that I do not know of any WM device with compass capability! Just GPS.
"eCompass" was supposed to stand for electronic compass. It was not an app!

can "uptodate" be installed and run on android?

hi guys,
i am a winmob user and never used an android device. also i m much clueless about all the hifi technical stuff.
there is a very important application called "uptodate" that i use on my omnia2. ( pls see this link, https://www.uptodate.com/home/about/index.html )
my queries are, can this application be installed and used on a android device?
and what are the advantages of android over winmob? / can the same stuff i do on winmob be done on android too?
sorry for my ignorance, but, i work in a different field and never had to come across these before.
pls help me out here.
thanks
sorry doc, but uptodate only works on windows/ palm os, not on android..
but then you can browse the online version using your password...on any phone with an internet connection..........but cant run it from the SD card like in windows mobile.
you can run epocrates (better version than win mo), and all the skyscape handheld software on android..............
but i think, windows mobile is the best for docs like us, who want to run uptodate from sd card

thanks. that was very helpful. guess i would stick with my omnia2 and winmob.
Well the android web one is nice. Just need an internet connection. If you have reception it makes no difference. If not you're such ruth the archaic wm. I used winmo for several years. It's time to move on.
Could winmo be emulated on android to run any of these old medical programs?

hello again,
coming back to the thread after a while.
i ve heard that people at utd are planning to make it only accessible online. because most of us are using the cracked versions and obviously they dont make any profit
and guess if they do that its going to be very hard to access without subscription. (which is rather expensive)
any news on that guys?

that was reallly helpful. but no support for wp7 i guess. also this online access needs subscription of several hundred usd per year, am i correct? (unless there is a way to use it without subscription) and what exactly is offline support? does it mean being able to store in the sd card and use, like with the old wm devices?

for online access you need the subscription (or have someone give you his/her login info ), of course.
i think (and hope) that offline access means the old wm and palmos way of installing it to the sd card, yes. the new, 19.2 version just came out and sadly there is no support for wm and palm anymore, so no offline version for mobile devices ... i didn't yet see the dvd itself but according to the above quotes, there will be no offline version until the transition from wm/palm to iphone/android is finished.
cheers

(no mention about wm, wp7 or palm. wp7 support would come after a while a guess) probably an iphone offline application as well. and they are going to be online only, in the future. so there wouldnt be any desktop versions. guess i m stuck with 19.1 from now on. i ve seen some guys using the online utd without getting subscribed on their android phones. still dont know how.

there was a method of how to do this from a pc (which should also work on an android phone probably) including a proxy server and an institution which has a subscription described on a forum site www.drfouly.com, but the site has been down for some weeks now, and i don't remember the exact procedure, so no luck. if there is an offline version for android in the future i will probably switch to android; for now i'm sticking with wm and utd 19.1 ... luckily the institution where i work has unlimited online access to utd from all the computers in the hospital ...

Mail send me from UPTODATE in May 2011.
We will no longer provide updates for Windows Mobile as of version 19.2, which is released in July 2011.
We made this difficult decision based on limited usage of Windows Mobile devices and on our need to focus on more widely used devices such as iPhone, iPad and Android. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
UpToDate is currently working on a downloadable version for the iPhone. We are hoping to launch this version sometime this year. UpToDate is also working on a downloadable version for the Android with no projected availability date at this time.
While we do not currently have a downloadable version of UpToDate to load directly on your iPhone, we have found that the program performs very well either through Wi-Fi or your 3G network, and you will receive the most updated content by going directly to our website.
Helpful hint: When you go to the UpToDate login page through your browser, click on the + sign at the bottom of your iPhone, then click on “Add to Home Screen”. This will put the UpToDate logo on your home screen so you can get the online application with one touch on future visits.
Please let us know if we can provide additional assistance.

forget the winmo! uptodate is available for any OS, including Android, and even Symbian. I don't know how they did the trick, but I'm using uptodate 19.3 on my Android 2.3.7. I'm a copyright man, but as we cannot buy uptodate in Iran, we have to reach illegal ways
I know a filesharing link that you can download the whole uptodate 19.3 but I cannot insert the link here in this forum, due to copyright issues. so tell me how I can help you...
to run it, you should just address your web browser (any) to a file in the uptodate folder. in Dolphin or Opera, I type file:///PATH-TO-UPTODATE/
