WM5 Internet Explorer porting issue - General Questions and Answers

alright, i've had this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409966
on my uni since i bought it. however i've noticed it is getting increasingly unstable the longer i go without a flash. so i'm attempting to whip up my own.
which was working great, until i realized something. that rom has an internet explorer that has an option to switch to VGA/high resolution mode.
the qtek rom im using? does not. i'm unsure as to where to go from here.
my question is, the qtek rom is version 1.30.77. that one is 2.00.xx. they're different AKU versions, i'm wondering if thats the cause, and if its portable back to an older one.
any thoughts would be appreciated, im somewhat stuck.

Windows Live Cab for WM5

I'm getting fed up with the WM6 frivalousnous. I believe i should go back to WM5 now. I really want Windows Live though. Is there any type of cab to get Windows Live on the MDA? I searched but came up with nothing. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If you dislike WM6 sooo much, then try posting in the appropriate forum NOT the WM6 forum. You'll probably get better reception without "frivaless" comments...

He's asking for a WM6 feature, therefore, he did post in the right forum.
P.S. WM6 does appear to suck nuts... GPRS disconnect issue trumps all of its benefits.

Odd... my device and the 18 or so of my client's that are running Faria's latest (not the vanilla) are estatic, very few issues. Must just be us...

Not too sure I agree with you on that, but that's a matter of personal preference, I suppose. I've had three different versions of WM6 on my 8125 in the past couple of months -- first the MB, then the Underground, and now Faria's. I have to say I've been happy with all three. The only reason I keep changing is for more RAM. (I like having LOTS of RAM -- LOL!!)
I haven't experienced the GPRS disconnect issue with ANY of the three and my internet gets a GOOD workout on a daily basis with tethering, emails and apps that update via the internet throughout the day. In fact, any problems I've had with any of them have had to do with "Button Actuator Deficit" (i.e. user error)
I for one can honestly say that I'll NEVER go back to WM5. . . even though all the chefs on here did a FABULOUS job of cooking them up for us -- WM6 Rocks!!!

Although I don't think it's as bad as herzzreh says, it (WM6) definitely does have problems for some devices. 2.19 didn't consistently fix the GRPS drop problem for me - it worked intermittently. I also randomly got 'Phone not ready - wait 15 seconds' (or words to that effect) when trying to send SMS messages. Those issues combined with the poor reception of the 2.19 radio (compared to 2.61) mean't it wasn't worth the hassle for the few extra features WM6 gives.
cheers,
Andrew

Who knows? Mine had 0 issues, except for this annoying GPRS disconnect issue, evne with 2.19 radio. If not for this, I'd be all over about using faria's WM6 rom.
BTW, thanks for the link to 3.3 rom!
you guys might be on to something
Maybe i've been out of the loop for a while but i have the MB version of WM6. I was wondering if i should stick with this version or maybe jump to a newer version. I've seen the other version's however don't feel confident that it would solve issues dealing with MB version. I really wouldn't want to jump to another rom just to find out i have the same issues. Only issues i still currently have are the GPRS and WIFI not staying strong after i connect(more so WIFI than GPRS). The WIFI connects and is ok one minute than says "connecting" the next minute. Anyhow,i appreciate all comments either bad or good on this thread. It certainly opened my eyes to some other issues.

Your call really. If you have MBE tweaked out and all and its working good, then it is a good ROM (I liked it). But for me WiFi on it never worked right. Wifi just works (no issues) on Faria's or NotTooSmart's (which is what I'm on now). Plus you have more memory and there is no soft key lag (that I had on MBE). I've heard others complain about other things in the newer roms, so it really depends on what you use if its worth it. Definetly get a good backup of MBE if you decide to switch as you may want to restore back to good settings if you don't like the newer roms.
Personally I'm waiting for Faria's Vanilla to test out the ability to use 2.61 Radio since he's putting in the AKU 3.3 comm stack. If that works, that will be fantastic!
Leaving WM6
I almost left WM6, but I changed my mind... what did it? The Nottosmart vanilla
I had tried Faria and MB, and was having connectivity reliability issues with both of them. Now I can put up with device instability (it is Windows after all ) if I am trying to run programs, browse the internet, or do other stuff, but when it comes to the phone and e-mail capabilities I just need it to work.
I hadn't had any problems with WM5 from the first summitter ROM I tried, to unluckywivesclub, and multiple Faria and Molski variations as well. What I think I discovered is that quite honestly, different handsets act differently, even with the same setups! This may not be logical, but we are talking about computers here.
Anyway, I had actually gone back to Faria's 3.3 when nottosmart's vanilla came out. it was a weekend so I figured I would flash it, hate it over the weekend, and put WM5 back by Monday.
Well my phone has never worked or looked better. I have no GPRS reconnection issues (and I am running 2.47 radio!!!) and I honestly see myself sticking with this for quite a while. I want to see faria's vanilla since the man is so damn talented and to see what the variations are to my current (but basically vanilla is vanilla, right?) and since what I have works I probably won't change.
Will this work for you? I have no idea. I have a few programs & tweaks installed but not a lot. For all I know I am one program away from a meltdown, but for now I am a VERY happy camper.

The X-plore's a good ROM no doubt. It DOES have a few issues, all ROM's do, even carrier stock ROM's.
Faria's is the most stable over time that I've installed however, it just works
And it was originally a Wizard ROM and not ported...
(Please understand that I've been running various renditions of his present ROM for the past several months that weren't made available to the masses..)
And everyone talks about free RAM....just how much RAM does one need ?????

Do you have WINDOWS mobile 6 rom? (not talking WIZARD. I'm talking OFFICIAL WM6 ROM)

Do you know where can I find a REAL version of the OFFICIAL Windows Mobile 6 ROM? Do you have it? do you know a link?
There probably wont be anyone who will claim this. No one has it officially. Plus if anyone does they will not speak up. You might as well try getting milk from a bull.
Thanks for your prompt response... It means that all WM6 (Wizard Mobile 6) roms are a Windows Mobile 5 customization, or aren't they?
So, what's the big deal on changing from your original rom to an unknown version when you can install all apps included in these roms without risk?
At least, in your opinion, which is the best, most stable, faster and tools-rich rom out there for an HTC Wizard G4 ? Faria? X-Plore? Love? mUn? other?
I'm asking this because I tested almost all roms here, and cannot say that there is a real difference (except for the make-up details) from one to another... Maybe as an expert you can help me to take the right decision on what's the best Rom to flash...
do you want and excelent ROM??

Try out Xplore v1.1 ROM you will love it. If you dont find it usefull or dont notice any difference at all. Go back to your WM5 ROM.
Look at my signiture!
BTW: O2 Germany will bring a HTC P4350 with WM6 in 2 weeks.
In all honesty, they are diffrent, just not a M$ release. They are not WM5 OS files. Now as for the best, it depends on what you like. Some like my Vanilla, slot of people like Xplore. It all really depends on what you are going to use it for.

I'm very proud to talk with a ROM creator (seriously). So tell me more about your vanilla ROM... I tested the latest (I think) version of this rom. It was really nice but it doesn't have some tools/programs than others have.
I'm looking for a fast ROM that contains useful teaks and tools to manage the phone as easier as possible.
I use my phone as a mobile office (MMS and SMS are critical to me, good reception at call time, Word, Excel and PDF viewer are critical too, connect to WiFi networks, ActiveSync) and sometimes (specially in airports while waiting for a flight) as a fun center.
Rarely I browse the Internet or use my phone as MP3 player or movie player.
Sounds like I can use the WM5 that came with my phone but I found it SOOooo slow for every task I do.
based on these expectations, what do you think is the best rom for me?
LOL. This is the reason i Started cooking.
Mine does not have all those apps, you are correct. But thats why its a Vanilla version. It gives a (somewhat) stable building ground for ROM Cookers to get a close to clean version without all the tearing and ripping out others includes.
Reffering 2 Xplore v1.1 ROM
Okay, whats up with the WIFI(won't turn on)? doesn't work on my Cingular 8125 plus the MMS too, can't receive o send. Apart from that its okay(doesn't have memory issue like other Roms)...but i had to go back to Most beautiful coz of the WIFI & MMS.... anyone got a solution?
Oh and another question i downloaded the ipl/spl 3... but when i extract it with WINrar... it shows the nkf... something blah blah file... like how do i flash the ipl/spl 3... on my fone?

If you want an official WM6 ROM you can get those from the Official Windows Mobile 6 SDK . You can get them here.
But I don't know if these ROMs can be adapted to an real PDA...
That's a Nice and interesting question, my friend...
Anybody knows if it is possible to rip the rom from a virtual PDA and load it into a real PDA?

ROM Advice for SPV C600

Hi,
I am really wanting to upgrade my SPV C600 to WinMo6. But first i need advice.
What ROM will keep all of my current working functions, working?? i want to be able to use my phone as i do now, just on WM6.
Also, i would quite like it to look like this IF possible.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=wv5aeDB6kwY
What are your recommendations?
Keith.
Which ROM?
The video you've been looking at is the standard WM6.1 Home screen. GnatGoSplats WM6.1 Clean ROM uses this interface, and it seems to be a good, stable ROM. Personally though, and this is just a matter of personal preference, I've found that although WM6.1 is the latest, WM6 ROM's tend to work better, be more stable and keep your device running with most if not all of your current 'stuff'.
I'm using SGregory's WM6 with the 'Neo' home screen, which in my opinion is a far better home screen interface than the standard WM6.1 you're talking about - but again, it's just personal preference.
One thing you will find though is that most ROM 'cookers' remove a lot of useless apps which most people never use so you can have more free memory to install the stuff you do use - I think it's called 'user choice'! Rather than Microsoft dictating which software is on your device, you can add the stuff you want and leave all the crap out.
If you're worried about upgrading your ROM because your device won't be the same, don't do it... that's the whole point of upgrading - your device WON'T be the same, it will be BETTER!!
Haha, thanks.
Have you got any screenshots of NEO? Also, could you link to that rom you thought was best and say what i would be losing/gaining?
Also , how easy is it to get it back to stock orange?
All the info you need my friend is right here in this forum. It's too time consuming for anyone to list all the pros and cons of various custom ROM's - just try one, if you don't like it, try another.
If you want to put the original Orange ROM back on (you won't when you've tried a decent ROM), you can download it from Orange website. Just type 'Orange SPV C600 ROM' into Google.
Is it really that easy to put it back as it was? If i did the recovery (hold 2 soft keys) would that not work anymore?
Also, will upgrading the radios not bother it in any way?
And by the orange rom, do you mean the one that adds the push email?
By 'Recovery' I assume you mean hard-reset. If so, no, that won't put it back to how it was. That will just reset all the settings to default and remove any third-party software which you have installed, thus leaving the device in a 'new' state (new, according to the ROM you have installed, not new as in just bought from Orange).
If I were you, I would leave it as it is because you're obviously way too concerned about messing up your device
I dunno about that last part, he's just a newbie. When I first got my Tornado I was scared to death to upgrade from WM5 to WM6 because I was afraid of bricking my phone. But I had a buddy who owns a Wizard watching over my shoulder while I followed the tutorial step-by-step, which was a big confidence-builder. And when it installed perfectly, I had the hang of it, and I've been experimenting occasionally with new ROMs ever since.
Keithoms, as long as you follow Karhoe's tutorial you're golden. And you'll never want to go back to the original ROM again - this I promise you. WM6 and WM6.1 are light years better than WM5. And don't you worry about bricking your phone - you have to seriously screw up the process to do that. Upgrade the radio for better reception, upgrade the ROM for better functionality.
And, I recommend doing like I did: read. Spend some time on this forum and just read threads. Read, read, read. Forums like this are great for getting questions answered, and chances are your question has been asked at least once before, and you're quite likely to find the answer to your question before you need to post it. If you can't find it, post, and we'll answer away. And, as an added bonus, by digging through the forums each day, you're likely to come across questions that you never thought to ask, and answers that fix problems you didn't realize you had.
And, last but not least, ENJOY! I've been in love with Windows Mobile phones ever since I got mine, and the number of things you can do with them are limitless.
Some threads you should read:
Karhoe's WM6 upgrade how-to. It looks like a lot of steps, but it's not really. It goes very fast - if you're SLOW, it might take you 25-30 minutes.
Nitro's WM6 ROM - you can substitute this for the ROM suggested by Karhoe's tutorial without any ill effects at all.
A whole collection of ROMS and software for the Tornado.
Hope this was helpful, and hope you have an awesome day!
Hi, thanks for the replies. For the radio, i was only meaning, would it bother the old orange rom in any way if i decided to go back with the radio still updated.
I am a bit paranoid, but that is only because i bought the phone yesterday and spent all of my money on it.
I have read karhoes guide around 20 times. Giving it a thought, i take it the only way to brick it is to either not SuperCID it before its flashed, to do format BINFS wrongly and to knock out the cables and/or run out of batterys as it is doing GMSUpdate and the actual rom flash.
So if i avoid those things, i should be fine? :S
I'm on nights so I'm moody!
- Perhaps I was a bit short with you to tell you to leave it alone. djsleepwalker is right... if you follow the guide to the letter, you shouldn't have any issues. Even if you do, someone in this forum has the answer you need.
You will never regret upgrading your ROM and you'll never want to put the original Orange ROM back on, that's for sure. I've used Windows Mobiles since 2002 and I've only started messing with ROM's a couple of years ago.. I wish I'd done it sooner. The benefits far outway the risks
Well, i just went ahead and did the full shebang!
I bought a new housing from fluffcat1, fitted that.
Then.... installed GGS's WM6
Uber-Epic romz....
Thanks to all that helped me get through this without any damamamagamage to my phone.

Best custom ROM to use??

Hi guys, what's the best custom GSM ROM to use for HTC Touch Pro? Should i use WM 6.1 or WM 6.5?? Is this one good coz it seems a bit outdated:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=454906
I just wanna find a good custom ROM that gives a lot of battery life and performance. And no bugs at all. Please recommend one.
EDIT: Also, since i'm not sure which ROM to use atm, i'm still sticking to the stock rom. But I find the signal kinda weak on my fone and was advised to upgrade the radio rom or something......from what i know, i have to install HardSPL first be4 flashing the radio rom, so i have 2 questions.
If i install HardSPL, does that hardreset my device? Will i lose everything or does it just install on the device and that's it?
And same with the radio rom, can i simply install it without hardresetting the device or anything related to it? I found this topic here and it seems i just need to install the cab file, is that it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=494632
I like EnergyROM. It's 6.5 too. In my opinion, 6.5 is much better than 6.1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536751
thanks for ur reply, how is the battery and overall performance of ur fone compare to using the stock rom?
The battery is fine as ROMs go. I'm a heavy texter and it usually gets me through 12 hours. I hear EnergyROM uses a tad more power than other ones but I haven't really noticed.
The performance is fantastic. It's fast and responsive and I've tried several other roms. A few 6.1 ones like Elite RC 2 and 3 and a lot of the 6.5 roms and this is my favorite. Seriously, my only two gripes with it are than the messages act buggy sometimes and that my MMS doesn't work but that is a T-Mobile specific problem.
I didn't even answer your main question. The stock rom (if you have AT&T) SUCKS. It was unusable in my opinion. This is leagues above it. The stock ROM's interface would just lag everywhere. It's been so long since I've had it (and I only had the stock on for like 2 days) I can't really answer the battery life part. Flashing to a new ROM is totally worth it.
And if you flash a new radio you keep your phone exactly how it was.
i bought my HTC Touch Pro from Taiwan and the performance is quite ok to me, the TouchFlo 3D etc are fine, i just have the issue with the battery problem, it lasts barely a day for me and i have to recharge all over again whereas my old phone (SE W950i) can use up to like 4 days straight......also, i have the problem with the signal since when i'm at Uni, whenever i tried sending a SMS, it often fails and pisses me off.
Just a couple of questions....
1. when u said ur fone lasts 12 hrs a day on average, wat do u normally use ur fone for? Do u just txt? Or do u use Wifi and play music etc as well? Coz i mostly use my fone for txt and the battery drains like crazy.......
2. How can i flash a new radio without installing HardSPL, which basically hard resets my fone? Do i use CustomRUU? Coz i don't know how to use it, i'm a total newb at this since i've only just got my first WM fone a while ago.....
EDIT:
Ok i'm getting really confused. After reading through some important notes from Energy's topic which you have linked me, I am just fully lost right now by this line:
3. "If your radio does not match your rilphone.dll you can get crazy bad battery drainage. Make sure they match. There is a separate thread for that."
So what do I do? Do i first flash the radio rom and then copy the rilphone.dll (which has to match the radio rom) to somewhere on the phone? Or do i simply install the rom??
4. I live in New Zealand, any New Zealanders can recommend the best radio rom for me? My provider is Vodafone NZ
5. And also, since my phone is bought from Taiwan, i am able to input chinese on the hardware keyboard and i use chinese when i txt friends sometimes. I know there are programs like CE Star but those use the software keyboard, is there a way i can still use my hardware keyboard to input chinese?
6. After updating to a custom rom, will i still be able to install hotfix or updates for the official rom? I.e can i still install the updates/hotfixes i download from the official HTC website and apply them to the custom rom?
PS: Sorry for the amount of questions.

new to fuze, have rom questions...

i just started browsing this site a few days and am very impressed with the whole community..
anyway, i just swapped out my samsung epix for an htc fuze and love the phone so far. I've already succesfully removed the at&t tab, fixed the small mms issue, and changed the default device.home.
thats apperently the the tip of the iceberg as far as customizing this phone goes. I am now interested in a different rom. I've noticed a lot of good things about the energyrom 2.0/3.0 and am very interested but also hesitant to flash my phone since i only just got it and dont want to void any warranties.
my quesions;
1. whats the latest energyrom 2.0 build? (maybe give me a dl link)
2. does the rom come with a bunch of apps im not gonna use?
3. Do i need to flash the radio before/after the rom or at all?
4. and which radio is best?
tia, im looking forward to learning more as this phone will do until i get the touch pro 2 or whatever comes next.
edit: i do realize there is a wiki and have been studying it, i've also seen the rom flashing for noobs section and have a rough idea that hardspl is a failsafe should anything go wrong
I'm just going to say that you need to find the answers to your own questions.
Start here.

Welcome to forums
Energy ROM is great!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536751
im still iffy on going to a 6.5 rom cause i guess its still a beta version on winmo (i think) so i was more thinkin on 6.1, i dont need newest just something different from stock but stable as well.
i was lookin at this list (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_Cooked_WM6.1_ROMs) and noticed energyrom 2.0 build 41609 was the newest but the thread link doesnt work.
i clicked the energyrom 1.0 build 32609 thread link and it brought me to a thread for energyrom 1.0 build 41609.....is that the same as energyrom 2.0 build 41609?
i also looked around and noticed the radio is untouched with just a rom flash so ill leave that alone for now. thank you for showing me how to use google anyway.
I am using 6.5 EnergyROM. It's very stable. Try it. The radio in my signature really works well in Northern California.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536751
aight, i think i will. thanks again for the info.
i flashed the rom to the energy 6.5 rom and am pretty amazed at people are willing to do for free. now ive only messed with it for about an hour but am loving it.
the only thing im worried about is how high the memory usage will go and how the battery life is affected..
