hey, i live in Faroe Islands, and i can't see the paid apps on the marketplace, which really sucks..
is there any way to change this ?
thanks from Thetmac
Yes of course, if you have root access. use the app called market enabler and set it to t-mobile. be sure to back up your default setting though.

I am not going to root my phone or doing anything risky things to it... I want to do it safely... thanks

There is no other way, sadly. You either root your phone and get apps, or you wait until Google enables paid apps in your country (which could be a very, very long time).

I tried doing a search didnt really bring up anything so I thought I'd ask. But do i ask here or in the Q&A section? oh what the hell
If you download runkeeper pro, which is free at the moment and keep that until Runkeeper Pro goes paid. and uninstall it once it goes paid againt, are you going to have to purchase it?
Not sure if any of that made sense
You looking to download run keeper or just telling us about it?

Look for it in the market...its runkeeper all one word. It does not work that great on my S. Went to exercise last night and the GPS did not kick in till a half mile later. I am going to try again but who knows.

my question was I have it installed, and its free obviously, IF when it goes back to being a paid version, and I uninstall it, would i have to purchase it to download again?
I don't think so.

I don't really know how that works, but as long as you maintain a market link for the app (whether it's actually installed or not, but shows in your apps section of the Market), I think you'd still be able to install it. No experience with that at all, though.
I'm losing track in my head of who's rooted and who's not around here, but if you're rooted, you can always just copy the apk to your sdcard and reinstall it manually, later, right?
That's what I do

Yeah, and I do similar for apps that I can't see in the Market on the Nexus S. I download them on my SGS or N1, then upload the apk to my dropbox and install from there on the NS. Tedious, but it works.
I can't stand this Att branded market. A lot of my apps disappeared, even some I just installed 2 days ago. Is there a way to swap it out with an unbranded market? I'm rooted stock. Atrackdog tells me there is an updated market app but you know, not for us locked on Att branded. Should it be a simple swap of apk's in the system?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
it's not the apk that is branded and you are likey up to date on the market .apk. it is something in the rom that check with the sim to see what carrier you are on. and some regulation is done with market keys in the build.prop. infused is suppoed to be unbranded but on my phone (and im sure many others)it is not. im not sure why it didnt work. thre is a market app called market enabler where you can change the branding to t-mobile or verizon by faking a sim key but im not sure what you need to change in the rom to block the market from detecting it altogether. one way to avoid the branding is to put the pone in airplane mode and turn wifi back on, then pen the market connected through wifi, in airplane mode it cant detect the sim key and will result in an unbranded market.(not to say you wont have some regulation due to ro.build.fingerprint in build.prop)
if you cant see market enabler you can still log into gmail on a full web browser(either a pc or the phone) and google search for android market enabler. find a result that starts with market.adroid.com and open it. on a phone it will bring you to the market page, on a pc it will bring you to a web page for android where you can push the app to your phone remotely.
Hey thanks for explaining that and yeah, airplane mode makes it unbranded. I clear the cache and I guess it rereads the installed apps and shows them all again.

you can try a different rom. i have the infused rom and i have an unbranded market.
Default.prop and build.prop.

Great the airplane mode works for me.Saw all my apps now and got updates. Why is the branded one with att not getting me updates?

becuase att wants to hide apps from you that they think you shouldn't have...
Wow my bible app wont update but when i do the airplane mode deal and go unbranded ir does update. Well maybe have to go to att by the house and talk to them lol maybe get a gift from then NOT.
I try airplane mode and I have 2 new updates. One for Devil Ninja and Google Maps.
So in response to those of you who have a *branded* market, *and* are running a custom rom which is supposed to have a unbranded market. Try the following diagnostic:

If you have a branded app market:
1) Go to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications
2) Go to Market, Clear Data, Force Close
3) Go to Google Services Framework, Clear Data, Force Close
4) Long Press Power Button, Choose Reboot
5) Unbranded app market

Of course this will only do you any good if you are running a custom rom, but afaik it should fix it 100% of the time in that case. I had the same issue after my most recent reflash to infused. And yes, I realize OP wanted to remain stock, I am reposting this for the other people who are on infused and still suffering AT&T branding.

<3 Amazon freebie paid apps!!
So far I've netted Plants vs. Zombies, Gaia GPS, Pac-man, Mahjong pro, and now watchdog!
Haha. Good call. I had a feeling a thread would show for this.
When I opened amazon and saw watchdog, I swear, the 'get app' button practically pushed itself.
It's days like this that make checking the daily free app of the day on amazon pay off.
Get it, people.
I look at amazon apps every day and I get the free ones even if I don't need them. Todays was a great find though

A little off topic but search appstore reminder in the forums and you'll find an app that will pop up a notification at a chosen time of what the free app is

It will have you add a payment option to your account, but the free apps are never charged to the card.
Once you've added the payment option, it won't ever ask for it again, unless you purchase a paid app.
It's Amazon's way of covering their rearends.

Yes. This is what discourages me from using Amazon App Store. So I turn on 1 click, do the purchase, and turn it back off right away. Amazon does not refund. So very high chance of accidental purchases that would not be refunded.
When I first installed the Amazon app store, I download an always free app. I didn't like it, so I uninstalled it. Now it is always in my apps list with the option to install it. Does anyone know how I can remove it? I tried searching for an answer but can't find one.

I trust you guys and want to download it, but I really don't want to install it until I understand what it is and how to use it. I haven't figured out how to download apps without installing them yet.

Amazon works differently, while market installs apps when you click Ok, amazon downloads the app and then asks for install... You can just cancel it.
Or if you are scared then install and remove immediately after that using easy uninstaller app.

If I download the app and hit cancel, would I need to navigate to it with a file explorer like Astro and click to install it? Or, will canceling cause the app not to be saved? How is Easy Uninstaller different from the stock uninstaller, other than how you can uninstall more than one app at a time?

There really is no reason to post a comment like this, because what it says is... you don't trust us.
Fine, I'm not hurt. Really, I'm not.
You don't have to trust anyone here. But you sure seem to when receiving other advice in the numerous threads you've posted asking for our help. Now you're not so sure... Lol
Just go read about it on the market. Check how many times watchdog lite has been downloaded, and read the reviews people have posted on its market page.
And then make your own informed decision.

Im guessing that this is your country's firewall problem, this you can only combat with either using a proxy service or routing all your traffic through VPN.

Even if you can bring up the learning hub, if you're rooted it automatically closes "due to copyright", and also as your country isn't supported it will close. Tried by flashing a UK rom onto my note. Has it but won't allow me to use it...
Shame as it would be a good distraction for my young nephew...
