REVIEW - Screen Protectors - HTC vs Brando - Desire Accessories

First of all the htc screen protector was a cut to size HD2 one. Brando one was the Desire one. Second of all, sorry - no pics. Third of all, the HTC protector was used on my phone two weeks ago.
HTC - Price: ~£5 for 2
Brando - Price: ~£7 for 1
HTC - Friction: More than no screen protector (aka alot). Pinching is slightly affected in terms abit harder to do.
Brando - Friction: Similar to no screen protector. Pinching is as easy.
HTC - Fingerprints: Sort of, can wipe off but not so easy
Brando - Fingerprints: Less than the HTC protector but can be wiped off easily.
HTC - Glare: Been a while, but did seem to be more glossy than no screen protector
Brando - Glare: Not alot, was able to read from the screen with one of the most powerful bycle lights you can find on the open market only a few centimeters above.
HTC - Visibility: Cant comment, very poorly cut to size
Brando - Visibilty: Near to none, only on close inspection.
HTC - Touch Sensitivity: Only effected in terms of pinching is harder (due to friction) - other than that seems more or less as normal
Brando - Touch Sensitivity: More or less normal
(both hardly effect it - if at all)
Thickness: Both similar. Neither are flimsly like paper or anything and are thick enough.
Protectability: Dont dare test, but thickness and covering the whole of the screen (inc black parts) I'd say alot.
HTC - Installation: Expect air bubbles first time round.
Brando - Installation: Easy, no air bubbles but if you put it on and theres dust on the screen, theres no second protector (so just live with it - as I have done)
HTC - Overall: 6/10, biggest let down is the added friction, that was quiet annoying. The added glare factor or slightly more finger prints is only slight, and not much of an issue.
Brando - Overall: 8/10, its almost perfect in every way, but price is quiet high, especially since i got dust accidently on the adhesive while installing i just have to live with it.
Both the HTC and Brando will protect your screens quiet well, but if you can afford it the Brando will definetley make you happy.
Feel free to post other reviews of other screen protectors or question my ratings. Point of this is to help people choose the best one.

I hate you lot - I was taking a picture and dropped the camera ONTO the Desire screen, the lens of the camera scratched the screen protector (it was a meter drop)
Peeled it abit and the BRANDO has saved the screen!
Putting it back on causes some air bubbles.
But, <3 Brando, will replace the scratched damaged one soon
@Seriously, go for the brando one - Its well worth it - Protects your screen (protected mine already!!) and you wont notice its there (even my friends asked if i have a screen protector on it after using it)

Great review, thanks a lot!
Does both of them cover the entire display including the black area arund the screen?

The brando does - the HTC I'd imagine does but bare in mind I was using a hd2 cut to size one, as far as I'm aware they are all made from the same material just different cuts

Im getting my Martin Fields one delivered tomorrow, i will post a review after

I too have got the Brando and I agree it's perfect in every way.
Just to add a really good tip with regard to dust. If you apply any of these screen protectors in a bathroom that is steamed up you will not have to deal with any airborne dust particles. You will also find the application far easier. Once those dust particles are between the screen and the protector there is nothing you can do about it.

thats not entirely true. just take 2 pieces of regular tape and you can get rid of them, although you have to be really careful not to get even more dust under there (paste 1 on the protector, lift it up, then remove the dust with the second piece of tape)

Thanks for posting this.
Will be keeping an eye on this thread as I need to get one and want to know which is the best!

anyone used the PDAir screen protector?
I shud be getting mine this week

thanks for the review.

Which version of the Brando is it - the Anti Glare or UltraClear?

It's the ultra clear I got I think lol didn't check even when buying

My exsperience with Brandon ultra clear
Hi,
Just received my copy of the Brandon Ultra clear today, and first thing i noticed is that it’s not covering the entire screen, -if I align it directly on the left and the top, I can see that there is missing a few millimeters on the right and bottom. The sensitivity is okay, I can’t feel a difference. I do however think colors are not as vibrant as before without, but I think that might be the price of a screen protector…

my brando anti glare sp turned up yesterday, not fitted as yet. i have a butchered touch hd sp in place. which is doing the job. the Desire specific has a cutout along the top edge, apparently to not block a sensor. i will not bother fitting the new sp as the whole screen is not covered. sensor works fine with butchered sp. anyone want a brando anti glare sp for Desire ? pm me

Link to brando screen protector? I'll have my desire tomorrow

Maybe if you said,
Please can you give me a link to the Brando Screen Protector site, people might be quicker to help Just some advice

Totally fed up with screen protectors

I have now bought eight of the things from two sources (the HTC brand and the five for £2 ones from Amazon) and not one of them fit properly. All were too big, by which I mean that there was not enough margin either side to ensure that they didn't overlap and bubble. And cutting a tiny strip off doesn't work either - the pressure of the stanley knife seems to put the plastic under tension, so that it doesn't bed down.
Thoroughly fed up with it.
My HTC branded screen protector fits perfectly on my Desire though.
Only had bubble around the round hole on the upper right.
Here here, used the same ones as you, the touch after is perfect, but there just crap everything else.
Also used invisable shield on the screen, and just horrible to use.

But that's the point -I don't want sodding bubbles on it
Don't bother with a screen protector?
In a year I haven't used screen protectors on any of my capacitive screened phones (i8910, HD2, Desire), not a scratch on any of them. Just be sensible and don't keep the phone in the same pocket as keys and you should be fine...

I've got the 2 dollar ones of amazon too and they fit great. Just perfect if u can get it lined up propper it will fit exactly. It took me 5 tries but evantualy i got 1 lined up properly.
just getting my desire today! but a word from the wise, a few weeks ago I was scrabbling under desks patching phone cables with my touch hd in my pocket, when I finally surfaced noticed a great big, deep scratch on my screen, probably from a desk leg or something. You could run your fingernail down it and it really felt like the glass had scratched. With big panic I gently lifted off the screen protector only to find that the deep scratch had not gone through to the glass. A fresh protector and it was as good as new.
I have already ordered protectors for my desire... well worth the money.

When in pocket, screen faces leg to avoid this problem
But I sympathize with the OP. I've tried a Martin Fields one, and a Brando anti glare one and I wasn't happy with either. Got some of those cheap amazon ones en route, but I think I'm going naked this time around. I was quite happy with the HTC ones on my Hero though.
Not had any issues with my Martin Fields one, gets a bit grubby but a quick wipe and its fine - also have it in it's case and screen facing inwards in my pocket so shouldn't have any issues...never had any issues before with screen issues in the past, though
FWIW, I'm exactly the same.
I bought the invisible shield protector, and tbh, so far I'm quite dissappointed in it.
Firstly, it's very tough to install, without getting dust particles underneath - I didn't get opportunity to do the "steamy room" trick as had been suggested before on here.
That aside, the protector seems really quite thick - I'm sure it will offer decent protection, but the touchscreen effect is really poor by comparison to an unprotected screen.
The question I have is this - are there no "hard" screen protectors?
A "Gorilla Glass" sliver would be excellent to place on top of your screen.
Anyone heard of something like this?
The screen protectors they sell in verizon and best buy for the Droid Incredible are a joke. After some quick diggin around I finally found a good company to go with. I got the Boxwave Crystal Clearview Screen Protectors for my Incredible two days ago and cant tell i even have it on my phone. Fits great, covers entire front of phone minus the earpiece and optical trackpad on phone. Went on first try, absolutely no air bubbles! Comes with a lint free cloth, should you encounter any air bubbles...The cloth prevents you from scratching the screen protector when removing any air bubbles. Also cleans the screen protector to perfection. I recommend Boxwave to anyone who is fed up of orange peel, misfitting, or screen protectors with clarity/quality issues. Boxwave also has has an antiglare/anti-fingerprint screen protector. Check and see what they have for the Desire. Good Luck.

I got a generic screen protector free with a gel case on eBay and I have to say, I think it's the first one I've put on WITHOUT any bubbles on it (and hence the first screen protector that's actually likely to stay on a device I own for more than 10 minutes ) Only think I don't like is that it makes the screen a bit less 'slippy' - it's still not bad, and to be honest I don't think I'll ever like the screen finish on the Desire when compared to the unscratchable, always smooth glass on my old iPhone...
I had inivisiable shield on, took me 3 times to install it and finally got it pretty much perfect,
then as you do, i got a key and scratched along it to show it off to some mates, so then one of my mates decided hey lets get a key and dig it right into it to make a big scratch down the middle!
Looked at ordering a replacement , but still had to pay $4 postage, ontop of the £1.50 my bank would charge for it being from the US. so i thought not worth it.
Though when i took it off it did protect the screen! not a scratch on it.
Here mate. Try these: 140397585852 on ebay.
I initially got a generic one from the three shop and it was rubbish. Very plastic and scratched very easily.
I got these off ebay and I am very impressed with it! It has a very good finish to the surface. Very similar to the bare screen. Also they are actually slightly smaller than the glass screen area so very easy to fit. Also they are very easy to fit and got no dust or bubbles!
Pack of 6. Bargain!

This is the first screen I've scratched, after years and years of big screens in my pocket - I always abide by the rule of screen inwards - but just that one time......... still stick by the moral of my story
I agree...

I agree. I have come to peace with using my phones without because I think there is a bigger risk of me getting angry and busting my phone when i try to apply the protector than there is scrathing the screen without

Well that's the trick. The protectors are easy to damage so that you buy new ones and each time think 'phew that saved me' when in fact almost all the time there would have been no damage to the screen anyway.

I don't think the scratch would be visible even without the protector. The protector is some soft material which can get a deep cut like scratch just because its soft. I bet it wouldn't be visible on the screen if you had none either as long as the phone is in your pocket covered by jeans or whatever you have on your ass and the desk inst really made out from pure metal with sharp edges. You would sooner break it then scratch in normal case scenario.

Brando Screen protector and case review

Hi all,
I recently bought a "Google Nexus One Circle Patterned Soft Plastic Case " and an "BW UltraClear PDA S/P (Google Nexus One)" screen protector from Brando.
I have bought several screen protectors from this company and was always very happy with the quality thus I decided to give them a try for my brand new phone.
My impressions:
The case is great, design is nice and matches the color of the nexus one perfectly. Holes are included for all important things like docks, second mic, flash etc...
Since it's made out of silicone it has a better grip without sacrificing too much of the look and size.
The screen protector is of good quality and you can barely see it. As I thought, it's not really helping the fingerprints. Just like the screen of the Nexus one, you'll have to wipe it once in a while...
The overall experience : What really disappoints me is the fact that Brando didn't try out both together. The problem is that the case covers a little bit the screen and the screen protector covers the whole screen.
This causes both protections to overlap each other and in the end it's always the case which wins. The screen protection is lifted by the case, causing a bubble around the edge(s) --> You can't read stuff at the edges of the screen + dust can infiltrate. You have to lift the cover above the screen protection to correct the situation.
After one and a half day of using them I decided to cut about 1,5 mm off the side of the screen protector the stop this. It's way better now but the screen protector doesn't stick perfectly to the screen anymore.
My conclusion
Both protections are of good quality, specially the case. For 21$ including shipping its a fair price. It's just a pity that Brando didn't test out their stuff. Make sure you cut the screen protection BEFORE you put in on your screen to reduce fingerprints, and keep the protector as adhesive as possible.
PS: I wanted to upload some pictures but my account still has to be approved by a mod.

SGP or Martin fields?

Currently wondering which screen protector to go for, heard good comments on both and wanted to get some info from people who are using these or have used both
thanks
I saw a Martinfields on a HD2 that has been used almost 2 years, and it looked pretty new still. Tempted to get one.
The HTC Desire HD Screen Protector SP P430 is an excellent fit - I went for the Twin Pack and glad I did after trying others that didn't fit properly.
I'm using a Martin Fields Overlay Plus screen protector for my Desire HD.
I've no experience in the SGP protectors but I can say that the Martin Fields is extremely clear, smooth and easy to apply and reapply if required.
It's a perfect fit in my opinion and as a bonus it comes with a camera lens protector for that exposed lens on the Desire HD!
I purchased mine from Ebay for £10, free UK Delivery. Hope this helps!

Got my Martin Fields protector today.
Quality seems very good. Is perfectly clear. Not too hard to install.
However, it was ever so slightly too big in the top right corner so I had to snip a sliver off to get it to sit down properly, but that corner now will not sit flush - so not great there.
It also LOVES fingerprints.
It's nice and smooth, though, and touchscreen responsiveness is much better than the ZAGG I had on there before.
Be interesting to see how hard wearing it is (one of my favourite things about the ZAGG is that it absorbs dings and springs back)
Incidentally, the camera lens protector fit perfectly.
Hi have installed a Martin Fields screen protector the other day. happy so far.
nice and easy to install.

As above, the screen protector does like fingerprints but I think it's no worse than the screen itself and is easily cleaned. The fingerprints aren't noticable when the screen is on, unless you have greasy/sweaty hands.
As for the imperfect cut as referred to by dazultra2000:
When I first applied my protector, my top two corners would not stick and created air bubbles. I did panic for a second and thought I wasted money on a bit of plastic. HOWEVER, I noticed this has been reported by some people using other screen protectors. I believe this is caused by application a little too close to the top edge, which is easily done here, due to the protector being cut to fit to the bezel of the screen, not leaving much room for error.
After re-applying the protector very slightly further down the screen, I found that it stuck perfectly without any modifications. This is easily done using a recommended piece of 3M Scotch tape, which I luckily had laying around, to peel off the protector with ease so it can be re applied. I'm sure other sticky tape will work fine.
I hope this helps anybody having the same issues with this protector. I can upload an image for anyone who needs to see what it looks like when applied, if anyone is interested.
Thanks just ordered, hoping it would be better than zagg.
Have a brando anti-glare screen protector on the way. Hopefully that should hold off on some of the smudges as well as that's another plus point of the anti-glare range and it worked a treat on my iPhone. Every other screen protector I've tried so far has been a magnet for prints.
i have always used martin fields and always will, they are cut to the perfect fit and as said leave not much room for adjustments but when u have that puppy sat he will stay there forever and a day, they are very hard wearing and excellent quality
just my 2 cents

Screen protector bubbles?

I was wondering if anyone else has had the problem I'm having with my Sensation. I know that because it's Gorilla Glass, I don't need it, but
Being cautious, I put a screen protector on.
The protector does not stick well to the edges, likely because of the curved glass. I've tried two brands of screen protector so far, and both have the same problem. It does not sit flat, and forms bubbles. I've had to cut it down with scissors to minimize the problem, but it still bubbles and looks awful on this gorgeous device.
I asked Phil from AC, and he said he would look in to it, but surely I'm not the only one. A quick twitter search confirms that at least one other person has this issue... How about you guys?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
My Zagg InvisibleShield is fine. There were a few bubbles but as the instructions say, they go after a few days. Now it looks fine.
I bought the 3M Vikuity protector, took a little while in putting it on but you only know its there if you look close on the edges where I got a bit of a finger print. Otherwise no bubbles.
I am with the same problem. Just today I applied screen protector through very experienced guy. Therefore he failed. Now I am caring this phone with bubbles in all edges :-(
I will catch hell for speaking what "i" have come to believe as truth, but the Sensation accessories are paltry, nonexistent or faulty. This is particularly applicable to the screen protector that is sold at T-mobile. As indicated by the OP, the curvature of the glass ultimately creates air pockets and loosens on occasion to create air bubbles. On top of that there is no anti-glare/smudge protection on the plastic. To get around this:
1. get the fb coupon for 50% accessories
2. Grab a couple of HD2 anti smudge protectors
3. Measure the fitting so that the protector is a perfect rectangle. I also made sure that the protector extended a smidgen below the htc/t-mobile branding to just below there the screen cuts off. This, from what I have experienced, puts the protector on the flattest parts of the screen.
This is working for me. my .02.
(management note- It is beyond ridiculous that I have to do this myself).
Agreed. I was excited to get an Otterbox Impact series and pay whatever price necessary. Sadly, I'm stuck with a no-name case and these screen protectors with bubbles.
http://yfrog.com/kirj2kij (not trying to boast about speed, but it works for that, too) shows the bubbles that seem to form with every protector I try. It also shows that the protector had to be cut to minimize the problem.
Is the Sensation the first device with this curved glass feature?
Get the official HTC screen protectors instead of the T-Mobile ones. They cover the whole glass front.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
I got a Phantom Skin and it looks just fine. Sticks well and no bubbles or edges coming up.

screen protector - what is the right size?

I ordered a tpu case + screen protector for ebay , great price only £1.95 delivered.
I am not bothered about the screen protector, as i have a pack of seven full lenth ones on order, it`s more to get the seller to send the right screen protector for other buyers.
Now the tpu case is great, but the screen protector is too small, in both leanth and width, It`s only 110mm x 55mm , and the top and bottom are slightly rounded, as are the corners, I emailed the seller and this is the reply, see below.
Also is the sensation screen not totally flat?
Thanks
John.

Hi
Thanks for contacting us. We have been informed by our suppliers that we have been supplied the correct size screen protector for the HTC Sensation. The screen protectors are designed to be smaller than the screen. It is due to screen on the Sensation not being completely flat, it is slightly raised at the edges, a bit like a plate. If the screen protector were the same size as the screen it would not stick correctly.
The size you should have been sent is 107mm x 55mm. If you have a different size to this it is possible that you have been sent the incorrect one, in which case we apologise and will send the correct size for your phone.
Please could you let us know so we can resolve this issue for you.

I got full size screen protectors from ebay, and due the curved screen it didn't attach correctly, and peel off very quickly.
If you want full screen protector, you need to look for the ultra thin and ultra clear ones.
they are very thin and can be molded to follow the curve of the sensation screen.
Yeah, I have a pack of seven of the recommended ones, coming from the US , the ones you heat up with an hair-dryer.
John.
Try to search up iShieldz, by far the best screen protector, wet apply but covers every inch. Try to find it on ebay or an online site ?
I got some from ebay which are a bit short and only cover the flat part of the screen. They do the job and the edges can only be seen when the the screen is off.
I also noticed that some supply protectors that are smaller than needed and my first one I got with case was same...
But later I got this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220921502767?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 from fleabay and it was correct full size. I thought it might be hard to apply at first, but it went rather smooth, after removing top protective layer I was able to go around the edges and it curved in perfectly, now is full size of screen.
I'm currently using the matte full screen
it is slightly smaller than the screen, I was only able to "curve" the protector in 2 corners, the other 2 now has bubble and won't stick to the screen at all (one at the search button, the other one a the HTC logo) it's not that bad, just ugly
I used to have the Zagg shield on it, used it for awhile, then got annoyed by the feel of it, not the best touchscreen experience... kinda squeaky, not as smooth as traditional flat protector, but it does the job well, cover every millimeter on it
are the official ones from HTC full screen size?
enjoy this one.
Genuine SP P540 Invisible Screen Protector for HTC Sensation
perfect size!
ishieldz is the same as CParmor™ and Zagg™ ones "Made from military grade material used for protecting helicopter rotor blades"
i've used Terrapin screen protectors - they're pretty good and the right size, etc, the only problem is they are not matte
The material is the same in theory... but ive used all three, iShiedz has a enormous difference. No rainbow effect after installing and orange peel effect. As well, no scratching. I got 4 Zagg's, all had that problem. Never again. Now im good
