This is a great site, but us noobs are treated like...you know, noobs. lol
Noobs must be patient and see how it unfolds. Stay active reading the forums and keep noob questions to a minimum. Good thing is these guys have a sense of humor so my current approach won't offend anyone, at least my experience. I support these guys. Unfortunately, they have to deal with noobs every now and then. I've been interested in learning more about code simply because of the Android movement, time and life has made it a slow process.
I can't wait till these guys get Android over to TMOUS. I believe these system files may be the first step.

The first step is getting linux installed and working with all the drivers for the device (radio/video etc..) once that's working properly devs can start the android tackle. These drivers don't exist for this hardware so it's a rather long process of developing customer drivers for linux.
From what I've been reading there's some decent progress in this but there's no step by step process to making this happen. The best thing you can do is wait and donate to the devs working on this project. They gotta eat too

root and recovery im looking safe way to do so
can anyone link me to a place where i can get a safe root and recovery, I have bricked three htc evo v 4g in just two weeks. IM used to samsung and there much easer to root and put recovery on htc is very different to say the least but love the phone

[Q] Got Root can't install ROM

I have a captivate that previously ran cognition 2.x but I upgraded to Froyo ATT 2.2 through KIES. I used SuperOneClickv1.8-ShortFuse to root the phone and Titanium Pro says I have superuser access and performs backups. AIO did not work for me on Froyo though it was very helpful previously when I had cognition and was trying differnet ROMS.
I now want to get rid of the ATT bloat and get wireless tethering back so I am trying to install Cognition 4.3. When I try to install a new ROM using either AIO or ROM Manager the "reinstall packages" selection gives me the following error
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Following the directions from another post I went to Clockwork site and downloaded the Captivate file "recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-captivate" which I renames "update.zip" and placed on the internal SD card. I removed my external MicroSD card and SIM card and retried. I have the very same error message.
I see a lot of discussion about this error message but most seems to involve not being able to root the phone which is not my problem.
Any pointers to helpful treads are appreciated.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I've never used Cognition.
BUT I think you have to check out this page.
Try this...
1. Using Odin 1.7 flash the Kernel off of the above page (I'm not sure if you need to use the CWM or Odin one).
2. Then try installing the ROM from CWM. I've heard a lot of people advising not to use ROM Manager, as it's not the best at flashing...
Let me know if this works...

Lol Stud, I'm with you on this. I must've told atleast 15 person in the past week to PM me for a good rundown for the 3e recovery fix :/ And as you said, it's already posted and has been for quite a while now

hmm firefox is being dumb...
think im going to switch back to ie, installed the ie9 update the other day and havent used it yet... ive always liked ie after netscape 4... (long ago...) tried firefox for the sync pages to phone but firefox android is slow as hell

I lurked for a couple months reading ... Granted I did just jump in to flashing head first (second day of having the phone my first android) ... I only started really posting once I knew what I was doing and thought I could be helpful ... Or funny either one is an addition to the thread.

[Q] Simple question: Where can I download the Hack Kit?

I checked the forums and it seems some people pissed the the guy off and he closed the thread as of 11/16/11. But I don't see any links to the actual kit. Everything I read has been out dated and points back to that thread that has been closed. Can someone please direct me to it?
Also, this phone is already on Gingerbread. So can someone tell me the best tool to use to root if the phone is already on Gingerbread? Will the ACE Hack Kit work on a Gingerbread device? I also found Visionary at Modaco but it's only for Froyo.

Huh, interesting. I didn't realize the Hack Kit was removed. Looks like it was just taken down yesterday. That's a shame. That was really the best tool to use. I haven't seen any other tool for months. And I believe there are some changes in the Inspires manufactured in the past couple of months so the older methods may not work. I could be wrong about that though. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if another dev pick up the torch and releases a new tool.

One day late. This Sucks!

Aahk was the only tool for gingerbread shipped inspires. Sorry

attn1 plans on putting it back out under a few conditions. Follow this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377119) thread. Post 10 has an alternative hack kit that should work

According to JSLEnterprises his method should work. CyanogenMod also has a root method for both Froyo and GB (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Ace)

Correction. As stated, jslenterprises method will work for gingerbread shipped phones.

No. Since yours was a froyo version the old hboot won't cause issues. Even though you upgraded. It's something about the hardware in the new ones that is incompatible with the original hboot.

From what I've seen/read - it should work with new ones too, however the issue that comes up is with that hboot installed it will take 15-20 minutes to boot, and vibrate for like a full minute while booting, leading a lot of users to think they're hosed. From what I've read, patience is the key to using that method (full downgrade vs partial downgrade) with newer shipped devices. I can't speak from experience though

Is that 15-20 minutes to boot every time you restart the phone? Or just during the rooting process?

It only has to use that hboot to utilize the exploit to get s-off. A new hboot is flashed after s-off is gained - I believe.

I just recently shifted to android from ios. bought inspire 4g but sigh, no ICS officialy. but i really need ics.. but i dont know how. It would be really helpful if someone could help me in doing it .
I need to learn how to
1. root the phone
2. get the ics
on my inspire. I did official update and have HTC sense 3.0 on android 2.3.5
I did search a lot, but i would really appreciate if I could get steps and links on how to do it here..

Well, right there at the hack kit page explains the workaround to get it working. A tad more complicated, but it works.

It shows two links, one before image of the phone where site has written of not asking each step. and the other link is later down. Which one do i have to dwonload? And after I download what do i have to do? please help.

I'm confused. I only see one link labeled aahk. Download that one. As for what to do after you download it, it comes with a manual. Read it. It gives extremely clear instructions.

You don't need to. It will work on windows as well.
I would strongly suggest to read the whole manual (effen manual - it's actually named like that) before starting. If you downloaded the hack kit/ran the kit with your antivirus on, the chances of it not working are high.
Thus, read before starting anything. Because if you mess up (the hack kit is quite simple if you understand what you are doing) but if you mess up with something so easy, it's going to take a whole lot more to fix it. READ EVERYTHING IN THE SITE BEFORE YOU PLUG IN YOUR PHONE, THEN READ IT AGAIN. WE ARE NOT KIDDING ABOUT READING. IT IS YOUR PHONE, YOUR RESPONSABILITY.
Keep in mind what android version you are on. THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT.

anyways, i have got all what to do,
but 2 slight problems!
1st. again i would like to ask, you again mention on android i run on, 2.3.5 with above rom mentioned, its good to run with aakh, right!
2nd. when i try to instal the disk drive of htc, it dosent install, just run as admin window appears nd nothing happens later! Am I doing something wrong here!?

Yes, it does.. i have 2.3.5 and it runs on 3.20.502.52

Make sure that when you run aahk the you shut down any firewall and anti virus programs or you will run into issues. Some people been having issues where anti virus programs treat aahk as a virus and will stop it from working. Last thing you want is in the middle of rooting for aahk to stop working.

Ok, my humble advice is that you spend MUCH more time reading before running the Hack Kit. This is not like other phones that the process is painless. Unfortunately, HTC locks its bootloaders so you need S-OFF before anything else.
If you really can't find something in a web site that has 2 or 3 entries, then take time to think about rooting. Don't do it untill you get acquainted with all the information you are being given.
Rooting your build OS is not enterily for noobs, so or you get help via teamviewer or just take some more time to fully understand what you are about to do...

I know, Im just too confused with all the terms, S-off, bootloaders, RUU.. I think I do need to search more and wait till I totally know what is to be done, Else I'll mess up my phone surely!
I think I should wait, and stay with whatever I have. I needed ICS. But I'll wait!
One ques., the most confusing thin is that "No temproot for Inspire for 3.20.502.52" which is written on the site of aahk, means what? Inspire can't be rooted which have this? Coz i have the same one.!
But anyways, thanks guys for taking time out! I do need some learning to be done.
If possible could u plz put up some youtube videos to help beginners like me, so that they can make full use of their phones! Or post link here if u know any video that might help me.
I need the ICS! It would be really heplful!
