I was messing around with root explorer and noticed that i was able to delete my boot animation with it when i was mounted as R/W so i thought i would try to copy one and it also works... so no need to push with adb shell.. here are the steps
1. take the boot animation make sure it is named bootanimation.zip and copy it to your SD card
2. then open root explore and mount R/W and then navigate to the file and press on file till the menu comes up and select copy
3. then navigate to data/local and paste the file in the local directory
and you are done, this can be done with the android_audio.mp3 file as well just paste it to the same place.
just thought this would make it easier for people instead of using adb shell
credit goes to yojoe600
Exactly what I was looking for, I'll give it a try, thanks.
The Animation worked but the Audio didn't, do you also need to put the Audio in a zip file?
I didn't think that you needed root to access /data/
So in that case, would need Root Explorer? Wouldn't any file manager do?
Yeah, you dont need root access at all for this.
just adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/

need to look at the text file in your bootanimations.zip and add the words android to the front of the text in that file
Anyone know of a way to change the system font yet? Can you use update.zip after rooting and installing CW recovery?

Make a backup in CW Recovery before you do anything.
You can try someones font zip file but it has to be made for the new CW recovery
You can also do this
Get the fonts from the zip file you want they end with *.ttf
In the directory where you have ADB make a folder named fonts and put all the *.ttf there that you are copying over
Reboot to CW Recovery
Then open a command prompt from that directory and at the prompt enter the command
adb push fonts /system/fonts/
adb reboot
Thanks for the reply. I tried to copy and paste with root explorer, but got hung on the "thunderstorm screen" on reboot. Doing a restore now, then I'll try to adb push it.
update.zip failed.
adb pushed each .ttf file separately and it worked, thank you.

You dont have to push each one separately.
Extract them to a folder in the directory where adb is and call it fonts
c:\adb\tools\fonts\
then do
adb push fonts /system/fonts/
it will push the whole directory and you don't have to enter each file name.

Look for font changer in the market... (free)
Create a folder on your sd card (i called mine htcfonts)
Look in xda for some fonts and extract them to your new folder
(suggest u rename them like zegoe.ttf, zegoe-bold.ttf)
Open the font changer app.
Mine got stuck on reboot - needed battery pull
enjoy!
There's also a custom font switcher on the market with a built in don't catalog that will download the font and install it in one or two clicks

I have frozen my Droid X using Font Changer and had to re-flash the ROM. There is an approach that works on the EROS, see thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801160 where they flash the fonts. I don't know if this works on the DROID X in Gingerbread or not. I don't want to have to flash again, so would like to find a method that has worked for others.
Here is a 10 cycle battery mod
Instructions:copy "framework-res.apk"to your PC
Rename .apk to .rar(zip) then right click"framework-res.rar"then extract it with WinRAR(WinZip)
Enter framework-res\res\drawable-hdpi and select"stat_sys_battery_0.png" to "stat_sys_battery_100.png",total 101 pictures which from your sources folder and copy all of them to the destination,replace older files like these
When you finish doing that back to find folder"framework-res",then use WinRAR to compress it to a .APK file the"archive name" is end with .apk And "Compression method" is "Store"
Modify the attribution of this apk!Its attribution is "rw-r--r--"
Modify with Root Explorer or other programs and now copy "framework-res .apk in system/app
Reboot and enjoy.
I think that there are easier ways to do this,but i'm a beginner.

Let me tell you my experience:
I tried this method but it didn't work out in my case, i got bootloop always. After some research, it seems that i got a problem with the sign of the file, and this is what i did and worked out:
Fase 1:
a) be root;
b.) copy with root explorer (or somelike app) from system/framework the file framework-res.apk to the SD;
c) move it to the PC;
d) in the PC, you have to got all the icons you wish to change into a folder;
e) there, open with winrar or 7zip (this is wich i used) the file framework-res (don't rename, just choose 7zip to open that file), go to \res\drawable-hdpi (you browse with 7zip);
f) with Windows Explorer open the folder in wich you have the icons you want to put into framework-res, select all the files, and just drag and drope it into the window within 7zip and where you have open framework-res\res\drawable-hdpi;
g) close the window of winrar o 7zip.
Fase 2:
h) copy the file framework-res.apk from PC to SD;
i) there move it with Root Explorer to System and chane permissions to rw-, r--, r-- (you can´t change permissions in SD);
j) then move the file framework-res.apk from system to system/framework
k) reboot and done!!
Advice: altaugh the icons you copy are ready to go from 1% to 1%, it doesn't mean it will work in your device. You have to modify something else that (yet) i don't Know.
See you all.

Hello Guys. Can anybody upload SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk of Sony Xperia Tipo(ST21i)?
I tried to copy using root explorer to SD card, but it can't be seen on computer when connected using data cable. How do i copy those two files? I need it for UOT Kitchen! I'm not able to find the procedure or files in XDA. So please do help!
They are probably hidden files in SD Card, try to enable showing hidden files on your PC.
Secondly, try to make zip file from those two files, send to PC and then extract.

I copied to SD Card. It didnt show up. So enabled show hidden files. DIDN'T WORK. Zipped it. Again DIDN'T WORK.
Use another root/file manager, maybe change something on phone to show like not hidden?
I managed somehow and i downloaded UOT zip file. Now when i try to install i get Status 0 error. I saw "How to" section of that site, i read that status 0 procedure, but i didnt get it. What is overriding UOT's file mean? What actually i should do?

I'm really sorry for my english! The problem is I want SystemUI and framework-res files for UOT Kitchen to customize the notification bar. I downloaded the UOT zip file. But when i try to Install it using CWM, it gives me Status 0 error. In the website there is instruction if this error occurs. But i didn't get it.
WORKAROUND for recovery error (Status 0):
1. Unzip your ROM and find
META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary file
2. Put this file in the UOT zip (overriding UOT's file)

Can anyone explain me what does this mean? What should i actually do?
Ahh I get it.
That is an error in update-binary in META-INF... folder, you should replace it with some other update-binary file.
But you don't need CWM, you can manually put those files with some root manager if you can not get that workin'.

You mean except the apk file you have a folder and inside some files?
If that's the case than those files are game data that is usually modified to work with that apk..
So you install apk(game) and then copy the folder either to Android/data, to root of your internal sd card or in some other folder.The folder depends on the game developer and most of them put the game data folder to Android/data.
If you get the .apk+.obb files than you install apk and copy the obb files to your Android/obb folder..
You'll figure it out..

apk files are actually zips, you can open and change them with winrar, winzip or 7zip...
that's why renaming worked.
