Tools to show GSM cell ID - General Questions and Answers

I am looking a tools that can show the current GSM network cell id, lac, & it's signal strenght, any tools?

Do a Search!
Er, yes - there are LOADS of posts on this.
I did a (very quick) search on the forum, and the top result was called "Yet another CellID application"!
I can't vouch for which of the many is the best - but you could do the search yourself and try some!
Hope this helps.

thank very much !

Network Monitor - Cell & Signal level

I am new to the world of BA and looking for a utility or a software which show the Network status, which cell attached to, signal level, Frequency Used, Neibouring cells etc. The utility is the same as the one used for Nokia Phone and called Network Monitor or the profisional one developed by Ericsson called TEMS. I need this utility where I can get information and record it directly in my BA in the field.
Thanks.

Curiously enough, I already answered this in the xperia sub-forum LOL
Just dial *#*#364#*#* or browse your /windows/ folder to launch fieldtest.exe
Don't have that exe on my Trinity.

Cell ID Info

Hi Everyone
I'm looking for a program that could tell me the Cell ID information for the tower that I'm connecting to.
Does anyone know of such an app?
Hi Pieter.
There are several windows mobile apps that can determine the cell ID info, but none of them seems to work on our Universal...
Phonealarm
Phonealarm is a phone suite program that gives the numeric number of the cell tower and lets you create a name for the tower.

Thanks ... will search for it.
Try this....
There's a program called CellProfiler. I've previously used it and it's really comprehensive when it reports nearby Cell Towers.
Give it a try, and see.

Thanks looking for it right now.
Pieter,
If you find anything that actually works on our Universal, please let us know!!
Well, CellProfiler should theoretically work. Too bad the forum seems to be hacked, and it's not free
None of them so far works properley on the Universal but I'm still looking.
I guess you need a special rilgsm.dll - as with the HTC Fieldtest-tool. Search the forum ...

HTC FieldTest?
What can you tell us about it? That is BOUND to work on Uni, or to be easily adaptable!
See the attached file. Launch it on your device and you'll see that most of the information is missing. I'm not sure whether there is a patched rilgsm.dll for Uni available somewhere....

Will start playing with it now to see what we can do with it.
I don't know if you noticed, but BeastyLeo's amalgam ROM uses the Radio service of the HTC Himalayan. And I can't find the rilgsm.dll you've been talking about, is it in the Windows directory, or somewhere deeper?

In the Windows directory but you must use Total Commander to see it.
Oh, okay. I was using the ActiveSync explorer. I'll try to mod something into it soon...

GPS software for Tornado

Hello you fine bunch of people out there! I was wondering what was the best gps software for the tornado? And if someone can post a link to where I can find it.THANKS!!!
Use Route 66 Mobile 7 for Windows Mobile Smartphone
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/31361762/Route_66_Mobile_7_WMS_7.0.3040_EasyInstall.zip
not working on my imate SP5. Application starts, shows startup screen, apparently connects with GPS, and shuts down. Any ideas?
of course not, nobody on here knows how to fix anything! I've been looking all day for an answer as to why route 66 7 keeps telling me that there isn't enough memory to load the map and then shuts down, nobody knows. Plenty of threads from like 2006! but nobody knows! AHGHHHHHHHH!!!!! I probably won't get a decent answer for that anytime soon either. Good luck man! and sorry bout this.
try an map for smartphone and will load
i had the same problem
Maps for PPC are not working
Maps for Symbian are not working
Please buy the apropiate map

You need to buy an SMARTPHONE map for your location
I was looking for GPS software myself a while ago. What I finally decided on was GPSDash (http://wimobi.com/gpsdash/overview.sph2.php?pid=sph2). What I liked was the ability to use custom maps, which are easily made with Google map downloader (for either satellite maps or street maps)
You have to register both to get full functionality and there's no navigation function, but it works well enough for dataloging and knowing exactly where you are.
Aside from that, I also recommend the Google Maps application for smartphones if you have a data plan. It ties with your GPS and, even if you don't have a GPS, gives you an approximate location based on cell tower triangulation.
One more site to mention is http://www.maps-gps-info.com/fgpfw.html. I stumbled across it looking for j2me apps for an old Nextel phone I have. There's lots of smartphone apps there, but I haven't tried most of them.
GPSVP is free too

Have you tried the Windows Live Search? It includes Maps, Driving Directions, From-To-Reverse Route, and many other little features. Maybe not as powerfull as the paid GPS softwares, but surely has got me out of trouble on the road many times. I can post you link if you care to see it, or just search for "Windows Live Search". Its a 700+ Cab. Good Luck

I would say you need to calm down and wait. Posting to your own thread like you are isn't going to get anyone to help you. In fact it can/could do the opposite and make people not want to post.
*#*#4636#*#*
Is that what you are looking for?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
i said i dont want this code plz read all the post
I don't think it is possible to do this on Android because you would need to interface with the radio code in a way that is not permitted. If I understand you correctly, YOU want to choose which tower the radio code locks onto and not allow it to do it automatically?
Does anyone have a list of the documented radio API that would allow you to make the cell selection? If there is no API call, then it can't be done.
thanks for your answer but why can symbian or nokia phone do this?
i could do this with symbian
each network tower had sepecefic number and with field test.sisx u could see some number of neighbor tower and enter the number and lock on another tower...
i still hope anyone or any android applicatoin provider can bulid this application
i dont know where i sould ask for building this applicatoin if anybody know plz send my requst to them
just dont forget that symbian phones have this app
thanks alot for all
i love my android
I think the reason that Symbian can do this is that was closed source and the manufacturers could do whatever they wanted.
Android on the other hand is open (slightly) and you have to make all calls to radio functions through the Android's Radio Interface Layer (RIL). I think this is because the actual radio code that drives the hardware can be manufacturer specific, so you need a generic wrapper to the upper layers.
If the RIL doesn't offer that functionality, then there is no way in to make it happen.
