I have just rooted my CDMA Hero and I flashed the Fresh 2.0d ROM using the flash recovery amon RA method. Now when I go to the recovery image(hold home during boot) it is back to HTC's default. Do I need to re-flash the RA recovery image? If so, do I need to use the adb method since flash-rec has been blocked since 1.5?
EDIT:
Question was answered by another post today:
To get to RA after flashing Fresh:
1) Press power while holding down volume.
2) Press Home

htc hero - SPRINT model
I've succesfully "one-click" rooted my phone. (i followed unlockr)
I succesfully dropped the fresh 1.1 "update.zip" file onto my SD card.
I then booted to "Fastboot mode" using the "down-volume + power" method.
I proceed to click "home" for recovery mode.
My phone hits a hiccup and gets stuck at a black screen with the text "htc" logo in the middle of the screen. It does not proceed to screen to allow me to run "update.zip" to flash the new fresh1.1
I don't have a hero, but could that just be the stock recovery screen? You might need to flash a custom recovery for your device.
Well, watching this video (Cant post)youtube.com/watch?v=hdmkTFAG3PM
at time = 4:08 is the exact part where my screen is locked at.
Its not bricked or anything. I can still boot and it runs the original OS (android 1.5)
I just followed your steps and mine sat on the black screen for a few seconds, but then works fine. You did answer a question I had about how to get to RA though, so thanks for that. Did you boot once before trying to go to recovery mode. I know the fresh site says it can take up to 5 min for the first boot.
RA - 1.5.2
Fresh - 2.0d
I waited for approx 4-5 min. Still, it hung at that htc logo screen.
I exactly followed the steps. After I had flashed the recovery image, I immediately proceeded to power down the phone. Then, I pressed downvolume+home, and entered into HBOOT mode. I pressed home for recovery. Still, no luck. I followed these steps exactly, downloaded the exact files, placed exactly on sdcard. Still hangs out that logo screen and does not proceed to the recovery screen.
Before I run the recovery, should I press HOME+POWER and completely wipe/reset my phone? Then I have to take out battery, Press DOWNVOLUME+POWER and enter into recovery mode? (In the instructional video, this is NOT DONE.)

Might I direct you towards a new post?
I did HOME+POWER after flashing the recovery Image (which should take you to the RA recovery. After you whipe and flash your ROM if you do this it will show the HTC screen that just whipes data and you have to follow the method you listed in your post.
These are the exact steps I followed:
1) Use flashRec to back up and flash the recovery image (RA-1.5.2)
2) Reboot HOME+POWER
3) Whipe > Whipe data/factory reset
4) Flash ZIP from sdcard > Select the ROM you want to flash (Fresh 2.0d)
5) Reboot system now (this can take up to 5 min)
6) To flash patch like vanilla lock screen patch boot with VOL DWN+POWER then press HOME to get back to RA.
A few of the above steps within RA require you to press HOME to confirm the action.
I have made 2 separate PC36IMG.zips for everyone that includes the contents of this EXACT RUU, except for one contains Amon_Ra recovery and the other contains ClockWorkMod recovery.
This will ONLY work for people who have run Unrevoked Forever and are s-off in hboot. This will basically run this RUU just like it would on the computer, while preserving your custom recovery.
NOTE: When tested this, I did NOT get the updated 1.71_003 PRI, i stayed on my same 1.40_003.
WARNING: I tested this twice before making this guide. I am NOT responsible for any problems you may encounter.
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE STARTING!
1. Download which ever PC36IMG.zip you prefer
2. Mount your sdcard to your computer (select Disk Drive, not Charge Only)
3. Put the PC36IMG.zip on the ROOT of your sdcard.
4. Unmount your sdcard from your computer (select Charge Only)
5. Reboot your phone to the bootloader by powering off your phone, then turn on your phone while holding the volume down button. The PC36IMG.zip will automatically load.
6. When the bootloader asks to "Start Update?" use volume up for YES.
It will now flash all the components.
If you wish to use this stock ROM,
7. When asked to reboot, select YES.
8. You are DONE Don't follow any more steps!
If you wish to restore your nandroid backup,
7. When asked to reboot, select NO
8. After choosing NO to the reboot, you will see a menu again. Select Bootloader from the menu, then use the Volume Down button to hover over "Recovery" and press Power to click on it.
If your phone gets stuck at the White EVO 4G screen, pull your battery, and then power on while holding volume down again. It should boot to the bootloader again, where you can select recovery.
9. Once in recovery, use the nandroid menu option to restore your nandroid backup.
That's all there is to it!

Would like to know this as well. If there is no pri 1.7 are there any diffs from a stock rom worth loading this for?
Well, I personally didn't get the updated PRI, even after doing the ##786# method after flashing this... Some people supposedly got the PRI from running this RUU... idk.
Also, I really don't care what PRI I have, I really think there isn't much of a difference between any of them.... whatever. I just made these for people who want to update to the newest stock RUU out, and keep a custom recovery. And no, this doesn't have root while the phone is booted, BUT you can flash a root package (like 2.2-root.zip from my rooting thread) to get root.
regaw_leinad, forgive my noob question but what recovery comes with a stock Froyo from Sprint. Go to the store, buy an EVO, has 2.2 installed.... and the recovery is....
I am so cooked now, I forgot what I had in the beginning Recovery, Radio, PRI, etc.
ok i am rooted but cannot seem to flash a custom rom. everytime i try to do it it takes me back to the clockwork mod recovery screen instead of the other regular one. i removed rom manager and clockwork off of my sd card but it still doesnt let me do it. i tried manually and using rom manager to flash a custom rom it wipes and restores but when it gets ready to load the rom it stops and takes me back to the recovery screen wtf.....please help me man im ready to throw this ****ing phone....arrrrrghh
You need to have "A" custom recovery installed. Currently there are only two that I am aware of; Clockwork's or Amon's.
You can flash a new recovery via adb but if you are unsure how to do that I would first try to see if you can do it through ROM Manager. ROM Manager is Clockwork's app but if you open it up and scroll to the bottom you will see an option to "Install Alternate Recovery." Selecting this will bring up the option to flash Amon's recovery.
If this is successful, make sure you have the "New.ROM.You.Want.To.Flash.zip" on the root of the sdcard and power down the phone.
Once off, hold the volume down button and then press and release the power button (still holding down the volume down button).
The phone should boot into a white screen with a few lines of text. At this point you can stop pressing the volume down button.
Using the volume up/down buttons to navigate the 4 options and the power button to select, select #2 recovery.
The phone will then boot into Amon's recovery which should be a black screen with green text.
Still using the volume up/down keys to navigate and the power button to select, first go to wipe and do a wipe of "erase data-restore," cache, and dalvik cache.
Once this is complete you can select "Return" to go back to the previous menu and select Flash Zip from SdCard.
Select the ROM.zip you want to flash and when finished reboot the phone.
Marvel at your new ROM
its greyed out. do i have to download amon recovery first?
Copy recovery-RA-evo-v1.8.0.img to the root of your sdcard
start the terminal app or launch adb
su(press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-evo-v1.8.0.img(press enter)
reboot recovery(press enter)
ok i did this and it told me that it wasnt found and then when i typed in the reboot part it said not permitted.
You obviously did not use ok's instructions above, so what instructions or programs are you trying to use? Clockworks recovery always loads a zip file from the sd card as stated above. Also with this method you do not use a computer at all, maybe to get the zip file to the sd card.

Is Amon the factory? I just want to get my phone back to the factory setting. I tried to unroot my captivate using a one-click app, but it didn't remove the superuser privileges. Do I need to remove this clockworkmod first? If so where can I get this AMON file?
Sorry, I know I probably sound like a moron, but I am new to this Android crap.

no Amon is a custom recovery. try downloading the stock RUU from your service provider and using that. i am not sure if that will re-flash the recovery back to stock, but that is the only thing that i can think of to tell you to try.
I rencently applied alphrev to s-off my desire. (Much love to alpharev, went without a hitch.)
Now when I ran the CD Linux program and was asked if I wanted to apply alpharevs custom recovery I said yes. Now whenever I boot into recovery manually (holding volume down button while power on) I go into alpharevs "blue" recovery. But when I boot into recovery via Rom manager I go into my old Clockworkmod 2.0.7 recovery?
Has anyone else ever had this happen? Is it possible to run two recoveries side by side on one device?

good day to you all,
i was flashing CM7 rc2 to my DHD the other day, and while starting the flashing my sd card didn't respond anymore, and the flash failed, no return to cw recovery just reboot. so i rebooted and now there's android with nothing on it, just system+sense. clockworkmod recovery everything is gone.
since there isn't an market app (versions floating on the web fail to launch) where i can download rom manager, this option does't work, been looking for versions floating around the web, but can't find a correct version that is able to flash clockworkmod.
is there a safe way to flash without clockwork?
so, i have root, eng-hboot, cid 11111111 and a broken rom.
how should i proceed?
<<
managed to restore a back up after finding that clockworkmod is hidden behind the recovery option in hboot.

Rom manager is available in the market. So can u boot into a working rom?
Switch off ur dhd. Hold volume - and press power button. It should boot to clockwork recovery.
If it doesn't. Download 'rom manager' from the market. Open it and press flash clockwork recovery. Re-download the rom and flash it again.
