Disable Library refresh Manilla (sense) Music tab? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hi All,
Since i have like 11 gb of music on my storage card it takes about 6-7 seconds to open te music tab. How can i disable the refresh each time you open the music tab? Since i don't daily add music it's useless to refresh eacht time i open it.
I want to be able to manually refresh the music library, how can i do this?
Since a lot of people here are changing things in manilla i hoped someone can help me! Thanks in advance!

I am surprised nobody has found a solution to this. Or maybe they have and I just haven't found it. I've been using S2P because waiting for the Sense music tab refresh is a pain. I automatically restart my phone every day and this requires waiting for the refresh daily. Frustrating!

Seems HTC have released an update, try this http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDow...at=0&dl_id=938
I just tried it and it seems better

Here is proper link. However, I think it will be useless unless you are using older stock ROM

Overall I'm impressed. Opera seems to work a bit faster, but this loads the page perfectly (unlike opera) Also, Opera tends to have issues with some links, not so on this. So perhaps this'll be my main browser.
For the video I've been seeing an issue where it'd load a video but midway the loading bar will still be there when the video plays in the background...
So- I'd have the video playing with the loading bar still in the way ^^;;
Anyone else having that issue?
I'm in Japan on wifi~
Here's a video of what I'm talking about ^^;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxHoqeMCyOo
Yep.. same problem here.. tried watching a video from the BBC website and it got to 71% before it started playing in the back... then stopped down loading and wouldn't let me control the playback.. all I could do was let it run.. or press back to exit the video player.
How did you install skyfire? I tried to download it from get.skyfire.com and i can't install it.
just search for it on the android app market, it installed fine for me from there
Partial flash support > no flash support i'm sure it'll get much better

connect your phone to the pc - place the file you downloaded from the skyfire.com site into it. Use an application that lets you see inside your SD card (try astro something or other program )
run it and install . (heading to bed at the moment if you still can't figure it out by the time i wake up, I'll go into more detail )
let's not forget that this app is still in beta so isn't going to work perfect all the time!
even in beta it works quite well! i like the flash support even though it has its problems atm
Hm, when comparing with Skyfire flash support on WM, there is still some long way to go. But great to see Skyfire on Android
Uninstalled it for now. It was causing random reboots on my device which were not present before the installation. Most of them from actually using the app. Probably just my device so no biggy. Hopefully the bugs are ironed out cause I actually like this better than the default

Tried some googling and coudn't find any info on it..?
Is this an x10 problem or is it common for all Androids?
I think it mainly x10 and maybe the droid also.
They released an update last week (I think!).. that seems to have fixed it for me.
Still having issues even after the update

Me too - video still plays behind 50% popup.
skyfire never worked once properly
Anyone hear of a fix for the loading window in the way of the video?
It is quite tantalizing to see the world cup game playing perfectly in the background but not be able to watch it due to the loading window being in the way and frozen at 50%.
I have seen it work perfectly on the droid which is running 2.1.
Is it a 1.6 or X10 issue?

MASSIVE battery drain with Sense music player?

Has anyone else noticed this?
I cook my own roms, so perhaps it is a problem with my cooking, but I dont think so.
This past 2 weeks I have been on holiday, and so it has been a time where I have used my hd2 alot for its music player, and obviously ive never used it as long before, otherwise im sure I would have noticed this in the past (which leads me to believe that it MAY be a certain package) butin the 2 hour drive to the airport, my battery went from 100 to about 50! surely that cant be right? The screen was off and when it WAS on the backlightwas about 20%, all wireless controls were off other than the actual phone and I didnt use any other apps whilst listening. Is it is just me?
Has anybody else had these problems? I will of course do more research when I return home on thursday as I am still away, but I just thought I would get this Q out in the mean time.
If anybody has had this problem and found any fixes / work arounds / improvements, please let me know, or if you can just report you also have bad battery drain that would be interesting. If theres anyone else who uses my roms, and has the same music battery drain problem PLEASE report it.
Thanks in advance
How many music files did you put in your storage card ?
I noticed that if there's more music files to play, the batt drains faster &
often your music player is trying to keep syncing which causes the HD2 to be hot.
*Just my experience, so i usually put not more then 50 music files.
To be honnest with u i think the sense music player and overall interface looks like ****. It should however not matter if you cook your own roms or not. The overall drain of battery on this phone is tremendus. There are several plaises where you can find cheap ass musicplayers witch will rape the sense music player at any time. If you wish to save battery life to actually use this phone for whats its really meant to be used as (a phone), get a cheap ass music player from somwhere else. there are methods of redusing the drain on the phone (Which i guess you already know since you cook your own roms and ****) though it will put a limit to you overall experience of the phone which in my eyes is most important.
An idea is to try something that requires less of the sence and more of the phone since the htc sence is famous for draining batterylife. s2p is a iphone like musicplayer witch is not perfect but can maby help you with your draining problem due to its non interferance with the sence interface
Hope this problem sorts out for you m8.
I will follow this tread to see if a bright mind comes up with some solution that can mingh get me to use my phone as a musicplayer again
Cheers
Remember to turn of the auto download of album art! The sense music player probably went through your whole library and downloaded album art.

Hey man!
Im having the same problem. I just noticed it last week. It wasn´t like that at the beginning, but I had fewer songs by then (2GBs prob). Now I have 6Gbs of music, and the HTC player is reaaaaaalllyyy slowww now. It takes about a minute or more to actually be able to use the HTC player. At the beginning I thought it froze, but after 1 or 2mins, it actually started working :S Is it because I have a lot of music installed on my storage card? Do I need another class card (such as 4 or 6)? Or do I just install another player on my htc to avoid that problem?? And if so, which mp3 player would you recommend me??
-album art off?
- use of playlists?
- deleted sd ->application data before flash a new rom?
- deleted music and at best "my documents" and then copy music back to sd?
- use of class 6 card?
I think that's the best questions for this issue
oh, I personally think that Nitrogen is the best player atm

Hey Michel,
I dont use any playlists. I havent flashed my rom at all. Im still using my hd2 with all settings that came when I bought it from TMobile. And I havent deleted my music and copied it back to my sd. And I use the memory card that came with the hd2, 16GB, but Im not sure which class it is. Now that I've rearranged my music in folders it loads waay faster than b4 (between 5 to 10 secs ) But the battery still drain pretty fast. In one or 2 hours it decreases about 25%. Im using EDGE technology, and my mp3 (once in a while). Is it supposed to drain that fast?? I think it has something to do with my music, cuz since I put my music into my sd card, the battery drains a lot faster than b4"!!!! Please help Oh! and where can I download that Nitrogen player??

Hey - I wanted to say: Use playlists and look if drain is still so high.
Then... your SD Card can really be a problem - do you have a buddy, who can lend his to you (8MB?) and you put the same music on it?
It seems, as if Audio Manager would always search to update the library.
Test: Kill it with TaskManager and use Nitrogen and look for the drain.
And nitrogen... ehm... just on the top of xda-devs is a search button (I would use the google xda-search)... it's released here
( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523505 )
I've experienced the stupid battery drain from Sense Music as well, I have switched to S2P now but the battery drain doesn't seem much better but to be fair I haven't done an extensive test yet.
I have also applied these reg edits. I thought they should have been done by BSB tweaks but clearly they weren't. I can't comment about battery improvement as I said I have not done a long enough test. One thing I can say though is that when I was listening to music via sense, my HD2 did get warm quite quick, with the reg tweaks done the temperature doesn't seem to increase now.
I do have a 8gb A-data CL6 card installed. I will be swapping this out for a 16gb CL10 card when I find one .
I do think that the battery drain is caused by the microSD card and mine was clearly getting warm after prelonged use but as I said with the reg tweaks the HD2 isn't getting warm now.

Hey Xavier, thanks for your help. Im gonna try that, but now I've noticed that even when Im not using my phone, the battery drains pretty damn fast!! It goes from 100 to 45% in 4 hours or so =S I have to charge it every freaking day!!!!! And i dont use it intensively. I read an article relating suspicious battery drain with viruses. How would I know if my phone has viruses, is there any free antivirus for Windows Mobile phone??? Or any other solution to this??

Sense 3.6 mail & music player meesed up

Hi,
Yesterday I updated my phone with the official android 4.0 update. Some things work faster, for the most part things seem to have taken a turn for the worse. Never mind that all the menu's now show way more information than you need, more importantly it seems htc broke the mail and music player app.
The mail app seems to revert push mail settings to every 15 minutes by itself and also reset the amount of days of email it should download back to 3 days. Basically the mail app became a useless piece of crap. No more push mail and no more having all your emails. Way to go HTC.
The geniuses at HTC also decided that it'd be nice to **** up the music player. It used to work perfectly fine. Easy and fast to navigate with just your thumb and playing music worked like a charm.
Not anymore. Switching between artist, albums etc is a horror now. Drop down menu **** instead of just a bar at the bottom of your screen. Worst of all is that music playback isn't smooth anymore. Try to skip more than 2 songs by swiping the screen fast and **** hits the fan. Also instead of playing music until you stop at a song you want music now stops playing right away and gives a 'pop' every time a new song starts.
Basically we now got a bit faster home screen scrolling. All other things got ****ed up. Way to go HTC. How about maybe bothering doing some quality checks next time?
Hi,
I was also annoyed about the Mail-app in ICS. At first I downgraded and wanted to wait until the official release was there. However, the official release didn't fix this issue, so I ended up searching for a fix for a very long time.
After all, I installed Aqua-Mail from the Market - it's free and you can set up IMAP-Push - it's working great without any issues.
Concerning the music player I'm using Real-Player - just give it a try!
Best regards
Manuel
Wait, what? the bug was there in leaked versions and the ****ers didn't even bother to fix it?? How can you possibly release a broken email application? The mind boggels... Do you happen to know if they fixed it with sense 4.0? I'm thinking about rooting as soon as there is a way of rooting Hboot 1.27 and than upgrading to 4.0.
Thanks for the pointer about aquamail but I can't find it in the market for my device. Seems the dev didn't roll it out in my country yet.
I really wonder what the whole deal about ICS is. For me, it only made things worse. There is a very small gain in smoothness but you get broken basic applications and the whole messed up ICS menu option overkill.

The Music application issue is not with my phone, but the Mail app thing is. It's very annoying since I like to get my e-mails via Push Mail. I've been using the built-in Gmail app more and more because of it. Hope they either issue an update to fix the Mail thing or give us Sense 4.0--- though I suppose that would be too demanding since a lot of people with EVO3Ds and such are already complaining about Sensation and Sensation XE users getting the ICS + Sense 3.6 update first.
But seriously. I use the Mail app a lot. A whole lot. I hope they fix it.

Multitasking is a joke on the One X!

What in the world did HTC do to Android ICS mulitasking!? Apps seem to be completely removed from cache every single time they're closed for ~30 seconds. They also no longer re-open in the same state that you left them! If I leave the browser, it needs to reload the web page. If I leave a game, I need to start from the beginning. If I pause and exit Slacker radio for a minute, the app closes and I can't even resume my music with the headphones button! I need to re-open the app and start playing all over again.
With my old Galaxy Nexus I never had ANY of these issues and multitasking was clearly the best of any smartphone on the market. HTC has completely crippled this device and it's becoming more and more frustrating (push email notifications & sms notifications are a whole other mess). It seems HTC has created Sense to focus more on preserving battery than focusing on creating a good user experience. The first few days with the phone were great but as more and more of these "instances" pop up, this phone is beginning to seem less and less powerful and intuitive.

So much so that multitasking seemed significantly more advanced on my iPhone 4S. This is supposed to be Android's strong suit!
Ya its not even like saved state. Its just a new icon for your previously opened apps.
This is one area where I wish I still had my gnex. HOwever everything else is better on this phone.
With root available, you can probably tweak this a bit with the likes of auto killer, or a similar min free tweaking app.
Music works fine, hell it even remember my last song and position played after a reboot, using htc music.
I made two videos of the problem:

HTC Music is an HTC developed app so it's possible they tweaked their own app to work well. I listen to most of my music online and prefer Slacker radio which has been nothing short of a disaster with this device b/c of the multitasking issues.

Does streaming google music play(app) work in the background ( while using navigation or a browser ) ?
With auto killer, i just tested, and i can keep 3 apps running in the memory. Try it out.
edit* scratch that, i tryed after a few minutes of inactivity, reloads.
I believe the reason they are using such aggressive memory management is because on the One X International Version Sense would constantly crash and you would see the "loading" screen.
Frankly I dont know which is more annoying...

Music works in the background for me while it's playing (even Slacker). But if I pause the music for a minute to go do something, it's impossible for me to begin playing from where I left off and I have to re-open the app and start playing a song from the beginning. It's very annoying.

Thank you for portraying what I mean...but your issue is even WORSE than mine. If I switch back to an app THAT quickly it won't reload like that. For me, it has to be around 30 seconds.

Root is already possible since yesterday. Custom ROM is not possible until we get bootloader unlocked.
i'm guessing that's why my simiclock doesn't update after i don't touch my phone for a long period of time (overnight)
In the developer settings, there is an option to set the limit of background processes. The default is set to "standard limit." Does anyone know what this limit is, or if changing it to 4 processes might actually help?
Edit: just tried and it clearly does not help.

Try going to settings developer opinions and look under apps and make sure those settings are to your liking. It has a setting for turning off apps right away and how many apps can run in the background.
Edit: I keep on going in and out of apps trying this but unless I'm out for like 5 min its not making me start over Pandora. Try clicking and unclicking apps close right away.

The issue definitely needs addressing, and I'm sure it's not a "what was HTC thinking" situation so much as a bug that they'll fix.
I've noticed the issue myself, but it hasn't annoyed me to the point of complaining. Maybe it's better on my phone. It'll almost certainly depend on what background services you have running. By that, I mean GMail, Email, Twitter/Facebook updates, playing music. Also, some apps seem to handle multitasking pretty well. NFS Hot Pursuit was obviously coded to accommodate Android multitasking, as I can quit it, check my email/twitter, maybe browse a website, and when I go back to NFS, it's on the pause screen and I can pick up the race where I left off.
Different processes receive different priorities as far as Android memory management go. If you're playing music (in HTC Music, Play Music, PowerAmp, etc,) then Android recognizes that this app is actively doing something, even if you consecutively load up every other app on your phone. You can go back to the music app and it won't have to reload anything. That's just an example. Other apps can do this too, as long as the programmers coded it right. I'm guessing NFS Hot Pursuit does this as I've never had a problem with it.
Of course, none of that excuses the poor multitasking, since the gnex seems much better at it. (And I'm assuming you people who have tried both have been running virtually identical apps on each phone.)
I don't know a ton about memory management and multitasking in Android, so I could only speculate as to where the problem really lies. Could be that Sense takes up too much memory (surprise surprise!), could be that HTC made the memory management too agressive, could be weird other things that I don't even know about, such as some sort of time-out for background apps.
I'm going to do some playing around and let you know if I can find any ways to improve it easily.

Minfree - optimal settings/exclusions?

Hi Everyone,
Currently using the ViperX ROM, and loving the ability to toggle minfree on the fly. This isn't exclusive to this ROM but I've always had a problem playing music on the One-X, which I find amusing.
Basically if I open the player, and background it, it'll randomly kill itself. I might get 30 seconds out of it, I might get an hour.
Not only that, but I pretty much can't use anything else. If I go on a webpage - dead. Music killed.
What are the optimal settings for keeping my backgrounded apps alive? I'm happy enough to lose some 'free' RAM in order to constantly keep my music alive, even if I have to manually kill it I'm okay with this.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone.

What music player are you using? Either the app itself or the ROM might be the problem, I'd say nandroid and then flash something else to see if you have the same problem.
I don't know how I keep doing this, keep getting into the wrong forums! Really sorry about that
As for the music player, it happens with a few different ones. The one I use most is actually a YouTube streamer - it streams the audio without the video, and works backgrounded too.
Long shot here, bit have you checked settings, developer options for kill back ground apps after so many are running or kill stuff not on screen..?
If not something like that, it's over my head.
