[MT3G LE]recovery remote:image update error - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

ive tried everything to fix this error. ive only seen 3 other post about this error, but nothing in them is helping.
i rooted my fender mytouch, got to the point where the magic rom is on and no touch screen, reboot and flash the radio and HBOOT of the stock fender rom, but Amon Ra's recovery.img always gives me this error. is there any other recovery.img i could try maybe?....

which version recovery u using?? g or h?

i am using 1.6.2G

You have the right one but I have never seen this error before. It wont let you flash any roms? Considering if you didnt have a touch screen you didnt flasha rom for our phones. We only have 3 real roms lol

i could only find this error on G1 forums and even then i think there was only 2 occurrences on other sites. i just dont understand why only the recovery file would be the one that doesnt work....
the HBOOT and radio i flashed went on the phone perfectly, but the recovery, even the older unperfected ones wont flash . they all give this error....

The only error I get is when I try to perform a Nandroid backup + ext or a Bart backup. Normal Nandroid works fine. I dont think we have A2sd working but I would love to see that option come back and not have to push via ADB

at the moment, im on the Magic's home screen with no touch screen drivers so i know my phone isnt bricked or anything. all i really need now is a recovery.img that will write to the device.
a little more detail about it: when i was flashing the files to the phone in fast boot. i did see that the green status bar loaded when tranfering the recover.img to the phone and it did show the red status bar like it was trying to install, but the bar never filled and after about a minute, it disappeared and the image update error showed on the command line.
im pretty much just trying to give every detail i can and keep trying different .img's to see if something fixes this weird problem.....

So is this before or after reflashing the stock SPL/radio? It looks like your trying to flash the recovery after putting the locked spl back on.
If not, I suggest trying it from the beginning.

this is when im trying to put the fender stock SPL/Radio in fastboot after getting the htc magic rom with no touchscreen drivers on it. i am following the steps for flashing using the goldcard method and ADB from the Unlockr's 1.2/fender rooting tutorial, and i got the radio.img and HBOOT.nb0 flashed on there successfully, but only this recovery.img isnt flashing.
i swear. this is the like the last hurdle before getting the whole thing done, and its the only thing that didnt work perfectly. everything else was going great.

Nandroid+Ext will fail unless there's something there to backup on an ext partition. A2SD works fine on the cm port at least, in fact, it automatically works, which I discovered after deleting my ext2 partition and discovering most of my apps were now broken links.

Problem is if you flash the hboot first you are blocking anything going through fastboot. Try booting the recovery rather then flashing. . Fastboot boot recovery. Img. . If it doesn't load or gives same error start from scratch. Do recovery first. Reason touch didn't work us because we only have 3 real ROMs to use noted by fender/1.2

ignore this. sorry.

oh okay. i will try this when i get home. i am at work at the moment and will be for the next 6 hours.....
just asking, but does it matter the order of flashing? like if i did radio, then recovery, and hboot last? or i guess it would be best to try loading the radio and hboot, then booting recovery...

this is important to know. thank you for that info. i will flash radio, hboot, then try booting recovery. i will report back on the results.

Try flashing an older version of Amon Ra. I think when I rooted I used v1.5.2 and then upgraded to 1.6.2.

i bricked it. for the record, i tried that version of amon ra but it didnt work either. i ended up bricking it by trying to load the recovery.img before the hboot.

Errr...this may sound a little patronizing, but you need to flash boot.img (extract it from the mikrunny zip file) manually using fastboot.

You need to extract boot.img from the mikrunny.zip file and place it in your android tools folder (where you have your adb and fastboot batch files)
Then boot into fastboot on your phone, and after making sure your device is detected... type the following command;
fastboot flash boot boot.img
no need to rename anything.
To read about fastboot and adb setup in detail, click on the link under Helpful Links in my signature.
You need to flash the specific boot.img extracted from each particular ROM every time you flash a new ROM in the future.
P.S : I can't see the attachment you posted... maybe you need to reupload it.

[HOW-TO] Upgrade matching Radio for new ROM base

Please use this new guide to flash a new radio
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684477
We are glad we have our unlocked devices and can happily flash Custom ROM`s, backup and restore nandroids or flash mods. Nevertheless there are still some restrictions, since we still have no S-Off. This week the latest 1.78 OTA update arrived and devs are working hard to upgrade their ROM`s to the new One S ROM base.
BUT...
assuming you already use a Custom ROM and you want to flash latest stuff, in any of these ROM`s built on latest base you will still use your old Radio, which was shipped initially. Since 1.78 OTA brought a new Radio (baseband), with S-Off it would be painless to flash it via fastboot or recovery, but we still aren`t there.
BUT...
there is a way to use latest ROM base with latest Radio. You just need to be willing to go that extra route.
What`s the benefit of upgrading a Radio?
The baseband is responsible for:
Signal quality
WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity
GPS / aGPS
Can improve battery due to improved signal quality
Can even improve camera
and more...
Who needs this?
Everyone who flashed first Custom Rom BEFORE OTA 1.78 arrived and wants to enjoy latest Baseband. Please check first, whether OTA for your region / provider is already available.
This is how you can upgrade your RADIO without S-Off
Step 1:
Make an nandroid in recovery
Step 2:
Download my stock 1.53 nandroid (maybe someone can upload to a faster mirror), unzip it and copy the folder in sdcard/clockworkmod/backup folder
http://minus.com/mquC9WDG6/4
Dropbox mirror - thx @ angelsanges
https://www.dropbox.com/s/av1w0aip9a...3_original.rar
Step 3:
Restore my Stock153Clean.zip nandroid in recovery
Step 4:
Download my fastboot folder (in case you haven`t installed SDK) and copy stock recovery image and clockwork recovery image in the unpacked fastboot folder
Fastboot folder: http://minus.com/mIA3OFkYq/3
Stock recovery: http://minus.com/mIA3OFkYq/18
Clockwork Recovery (or use another CWM version, whatever you prefer): http://minus.com/mIA3OFkYq/4
Step 5:
Boot in Bootloader (with adb reboot bootloader or Power and Vol. down) and connect your device. Navigate in cmd to your fastboot folder and flash stock recovery with:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
Step 6:
Reboot and check for system updates in settings info (that can last a while, sometimes you need to try several times), download and install when prompted. Wait a few minutes for your device to install the update and reboot.
Step 7:
Boot in Bootloader and connect your device. Navigate in cmd to your fastboot folder and flash Clockwork recovery with:
fastboot flash recovery r2-modaco-recovery-clockwork-touch-ville.img
Step 8:
Restore your own nandroid (which does not backup and restore radio images) and now you have upgraded your Radio

he_stheone64, I guess I am out of luck again and this won't work with CID T-MOB101?
any one got a mirror for the 1.53 nandroid ? got a estimated time of 5 hours left !!, also, couldnt i just use a 1.53 rom ?? its clean, untouched stock, from RUU, no root or nothing...
will i also get this update with vodafone UK CID ? VODAP100 i think it is
EDIT, The update isnt even available !! yet according to my provider it is !
i have stock ROM and stock recovery ! still no bloody update
nice, probably this will fix the umts<>hspa toggling problem i am experiencing ...
since the download of the nandroid backup takes hours i tried restoring my own backup of stock 1.53. only difference is root. the update was detected immediately after i rebooted from cwr. sadly the update process did not succeed. the progress bar stopped after ~25% and then i just got a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it. after 1-2 minutes the phone rebooted and it's still stock 1.53 with old radio. any ideas what could be missing?
i did revert to stock recovery and there was ~2gb of space left on /sdcard/
probably root?!
//edit: found the problem. i changed 3 lines in build.prop which gets patched in the update process ... removed changes (and unrooted) and now the update works.

As mentioned in the OP, check FIRST whether your provider already delivers an update. If you have a matching RUU for your device, you can flash back also with the RUU. This certainly requires some extra steps, but does the job.

This is info I got from the guy who posted the OTA zip:
Need stock recovery to install. And you may loose root.
Root Keeper from market is said to work for keeping root. The "one click-tool" here in the development section can easily flash stock recovery for you. You can always re-flash CWM after update is installed.
And this is how you would install OTA zip file for sensation, guess it works the same way. You can give it a try, I can't since I don't have matching CID (the list of supported CIDs is in the OTA zip file in firmware.zip): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16862231&postcount=1

Just being unlocked is not the same as being rooted. You need to be Unlocked AND rooted to install CWM through Root Manager. You're only half of that.

nope im having trouble doing that i need help on that part
With an unlocked bootloader I simply copy the fastboot and adb files, as well as whatever recovery image I want to flash and push the recovery via fastboot... however if you aren't confident in your skills with the command prompt or fastboot there is always the all-in-one toolkit for the MT4GS that can be downloaded from its own thread in the dev forums (I don't have the link handy but it seemed to work for me on my sister's mt4gs).
I'm having trouble flashing CWM from the market as well. I've rooted (or at least I think I have) via Hasooon2000's tool and the superuser icon shows up in my drawer but when I try to run it I'm never prompted with the usual permission request, just the permission error that OP posted. I am also unable to install anything like Busybox or ROM Toolbox. It seems like the root just wasn't properly set up but none of the methods I've found actually work. I have tried to redo the rooting process, but to no avail.
I flashed CWM from Hasoon200's tool too, and can boot into it, however when I try to take a backup it just goes to a screen with the CWM logo in it and doesn't do anything. I have to pull the battery to get it to reboot.
Never had this much trouble with rooting or flashing a recovery before, but if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
I'd say do a flash of CWM via adb. Then install Superuser through CWM using a zipped Superuser. Worked flawlessly for me.

Are you using the trackpad to select things in recovery? All of my other phones used power while in recovery to select things but the doubleshot uses trackpad to select
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk 2
I'm of two different schools of thought here - my first thought is bad download of CWM... Honestly I'd just read up on fastboot flashing the recovery image and do that to ensure a good root. However as noted above the trackpad select did throw me off at first.
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using XDA
OK, it looks like I don't actually have S-Off and I've got the newer Hboot which, from what I can tell, prevents me from using this method and the only two ways to do this seem to involve either doing some crazy stuff with wires or flashing stuff without taking a backup first. Both of these methods make me very nervous, especially since as far as I can tell there is no way to use anything like Odin or RSD Lite with this phone to restore it in case something gets messed up.
If anyone has a way I can take a backup before flashing a ROM or, better yet, has a way to restore the phone completely in case something goes awry that would be awesome.
Update: Yeah, looks like it was the trackpad thing preventing me from doing this properly. Totally bizarre considering the fact that I was able to select things just fine using the volume buttons but when I hit power (which selects on most devices), it didn't work right.
Thanks for helping me get past this hurdle everyone! Hopefully I can figure out how to get s-off.
Edit: Update - I flashed a ROM that already had root and now that works too. Good enough for now, I'll wait for a less scarey method to get S-off. I'm not about to start messing around with wires.

Bricked my MyTouch? I hope not.

So now I am posting here the exact thread hoping you guys can help me out with this. I havent touched my phone in a while and forgot a lot of the steps I took, I just remember what I put into this thread. So if anyone could help me out, that would be awesome.
Well recently I was trying to root my Mytouch 4g Slide and ACCORDING to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801106
All I had to do was flash the custom ROM as it would have the root already in there.
-6. ROOT YOUR DEVICE.-
Now that you have a custom recovery, you can flash custom ROMs. These custom ROMs are already rooted with Superuser and binary files.
NOTE: If you are S-ON, installing a custom ICS ROM will require an extra step in fastboot. You will have to extract the “boot.img” from the ROM and flash it with fastboot after installing the ROM in CWM recovery. More information from Limewirelord.
HOWEVER, if you want to root the STOCK ROM and/or continue to step 7 to achieve JuopunutBear S-OFF, you’ll have to root the device yourself. This is very simple. Download Superuser ZIP from androidsu.com/superuser. I can only recommend version 3.0.7 efgh because that is the only one I have tested, but newer versions may work.
Place the “Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed” on the ROOT of your SD card. Go to CWM Recovery and use “install zip from sdcard” to flash the Superuser zip. If installation aborts or fails the first time, try to flash the zip again until installation is complete. Reboot your phone and check in your apps to see if Superuser app is there. If so, congratulations, you have successfully rooted your stock MT4GS!

Which I did.
I was using this kids download tools to get the files I wanted. So I extracted the boot.img and used this tutorial to flash it for me.
THAN I ran a back up in clockwork. I haven't put the files on my SD card yet, I was just jumping ahead and was not prepared.
So I tried to go back to my phones regular state, but it is stuck on the "MyTouch 4G" splash pages, doesn't move what so ever.
I than grew worried about the phone, and thought I just bricked it or something. I am still able to get into Clockwork and do stuff in it. I tried to do a restore from my backup, didnt work. Tried wiping everything then do the backup, didnt work.
So I said, well maybe its because its a custom boot.img or something and it doesnt want to work? Luckily I had a old Mytouch 3G laying around so I could put stuff on my SD card.
So I put everything the kid provided from his mediafire folder and placed it into the root of my SD card. Switched over to the 4G and tried to install the packages.
The first was the ROM. At first it didnt work, it gave me an error:
Code:
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "glacier" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "glacier"
By googling the error, I come to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250785
And a few posts down, a person writes this:
Step 1.Open the ROM.zip with winrar
Step 2.Found \META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script ,use Notepad open
Step 3.delete assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "p880" ||
getprop("ro.build.product") == "p880");
Step 4.OK,safe

I followed those steps, and it did work. It "Installed" this time.
I followed the rest of the steps until it got to the last package. When installing "grapefruit" my phones display shut off, and then when it went back on, I was back at the beginning of Clockwork. So I went and tried to install it again, and this time it gives me a (Status 0) error, with no other information.
I assumed that it was already installed or something, and it was just saying it is already installed.
I tried to reboot back to normal and I am still stuck where it says "Mytouch 4g"
So now I am on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844910
And there are the download links, I click on both of them to get this:
{

}
And now I am here. Cant find the download for this dang it file.
Anything helpful will be greatly appreciated.

TL;DR: Im stuck at the "MyTouch 4g" splash page. I can get into CWM mod fine. It is S-ON. Halp.
You are lucky your phone still boots!
Do right now you have been trying to put software and firmware from the mytouch 4g onto the mytouch 4g slide, is this correct? Your phone has a keyboard and is made by HTC correct?
If so hopefully all you need to do is flash a proper recovery and then a ROM (and possible use fastboot to flash kernel)
Will you boot into your bootloader and write down every word line for line here

I didnt realy understand your first question, sorry.
Yes It does have a keyboard, if its made by HTC, I have no clue. It says HTC on the back, but imsure all MyTouches are made by HTC.
I wrote what it said in the bootloader up there. CWM is installed but I dont know where to get the stock ROM nor do I know how to install it at this point.
Thanks again for your support.
Not all mytouches are made by HTC
So go to the dev forum here, grab a proper recovery (there are a few to pick from)
Pick a ROM
Use fastboot to erase all
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
Now flash recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(Replace recovery.img as needed)
Now boot to new recovery
Flash ROM (and gapps if needed)
Extract kernel from ROM you flashed
Reboot to bootloader and flash kernel
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
This should fix your phone up, check the stickies in development and general section for more help
If you get really stuck feel free to ask
Best of luck!

Would any ROM do? Is there any you recommend?
Im assuming since we are typing things in, we are doing this first part inside of cmdprompt on the computer.
Also can you give me more detailed steps for that last part? I dont fully understand the process.
Thanks again
I'm not in the business of recommending ROMs, but yes any will do if you follow the steps in previous post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41374534
Here's a guide on fastboot that should help you further. Be careful with your phone, too many people here rooting is amazing and all androids need to be rooted. Truth is too many people brick their phone because they aren't willing to do a little homework first. So please read up, if you don't understand something search for an answer, if your still confused then ask here

Sorry for the late reply, I just got around to fixing this thing.
I tried to fastboot erase [cmd] But I keep on getting a FAILED (remote: not allowed).
So I ignored it and went on. I tried to flash "cm-10.2-20130810-UNOFFICIAL-doubleshot.zip" in Clockwork and I got a error:
(bad)
Installation aborted.
So I hit a wall again
I have a sneaking feeling the recovery you have is not meant for your phone, will fastboot allow you to flash the recovery (you don't have access to the erase commands I guess but hopefully you can flash a new recovery)
If so flash one that is in these my touch 4g slide forums (in the dev section) then wipe all, then flash this ROM in recovery

I have tried to download the ROM from the thread you gave me, but I got a Server not Found error:
Weekends has a mirror thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30280777
Be sure to thank him
Make sure you download gingerbread version so you can skip flashing the kernel with fastboot (in other words only use a stock based ROM now until you get things working, no cm10 or 9, no pa, no anything but stock rooted ROM)

Sweet! I gained access to my phone again. :victory:
Im going to hold off on the idea of rooting for a while, going to get a little bit more educated on it before I try anything else. I thanked that guys post and Im about to thank your posts.
Cheers!
No need for the thanks, that's not why I help
FYI, if you followed these steps you are rooted and have a custom recovery and custom ROM (based off stock and much better)
But yes, stick with what you have for a while, research your phone a bit, read all the stickies in these threads, and before you do your next adventure read up, and feel free to ask questions. There are many talent people here always willing to help
Glad your up and running!

I have this app that checks if I have root access, and it says I still do not. When I got the phone up and running, nothing seems to have changed from last time I used it. Was it supposed to be wiped?
well, tell me more about how you got your phone up and running
if you flashed the rom i told you to you should have root, if you did something else than i cant say for sure without some more info
1)what steps brought you alive
2)what does it say under settings>about phone

I got the ROM you told me to get. I extracted the boot.img and did the following in cmd prompt:
fastboot flash recovery boot.img
I went to the menus again and selected Recovery. It booted to my regular phone interface :highfive:
This is what it says under Settings>About:
Software (Which im pretty sure your looking for)
Version: 2.3.4
HTC Version: 3.0
Software #: 1.63.531.2 710RD
More:
Kernal: 2.6.35.13-gf3a1982
BaseBand: 11.59.3504.00U_11.16.35.04.20_2
Build #: 1.63.531.2 CL315903 release-keys
Now I am kinda thinking I should have done it to fastboot flash boot boot.img, should I?
You flashed the kernel you extracted from the ROM to your recovery partition and then all worked
If this was your exact steps I'm sorry to say but I'm as confused as you are...
In truth I never have thought to do such a thing, what I gather has happened is you have a stock ROM that never got wiped, you then flashed the kernel to this ROM into your recovery partition and then selected recovery and got the phone to just boot.... If this is all true I'm intrigued, I'll have to run some tests later as this may just be a sneaky way to fix borked partitions... Or a fluke, but I'm risky so I'll test and report back to see my findings....

Temp Root Question

Sorry if this question does not belong here, I'm a noob. A few days ago I was trying some things with the sunshine free apk and after a few minutes I got a message that said "congratulations now you have temp root", then I installed TWRP through google play, rebooted into recovery and it worked. At that time I did not try to install a Custom Rom through this method because I wasn't sure about it, my question is Can I install a custom rom doing with this method? (like the google play edition sensified rom)

I'm not really sure what to tell you. If you managed to install TWRP without getting S-Off and an unlocked bootloader (never heard of this) I would think you could flash a rom. However, I don't know if it would work for you or not. If the rom comes with a boot.img file, it would almost certainly fail to flash that part of the rom. You would need an unlocked bootloader for that to work. If the system part of the rom did flash, it might be nothing but headaches if it relied on the boot.img. I'm not even sure if the system would flash without an unlocked bootloader. My guess is probably but I think you might be in for a world of headaches if you do it. I would recommend just running sunshine and paying the piper . Maybe somebody else more knowledgeable than me can answer and tell you for sure. I'd tread lightly on this one if I were you. I just don't know for sure. All I know is that boot.img isn't going to succeed.

I suspect you haven't accomplished as much as it sounds. I don't believe you can flash a custom recovery with s-on and a locked bootloader. When you ran sunshine, did you go all the way and pay for it or did you stop after gaining temp root? Temp root may allow something like the TWRP app (different from the actual TWRP recovery) to think it's done it's thing without the flash actually completing. When you say "it worked" do you mean you booted all the way into TWRP recovery?

Yep, I installed the app from google play and then it asked me if I wanted to reboot into recovery so I did it. I was able to use TWRP but I didn't try anything because I wasn't sure.

But you're sure that you still have s-on and a locked bootloader? What happens if you turn off the phone and then enter the bootloader (volume up + power) and enter recovery from there? Does it take you to TWRP or stock recovery.

Ok, but if you enter recovery from hboot as in your picture do you actually go into twrp? I wonder if either the TWRP app (with temp root) was somehow able to boot twrp instead of flashing it to the recovery partition and booting to recovery or perhaps some previous owner flashed a spoofed hboot and you actually do have an unlocked bootloader but don't know it. Did you buy the phone new with this being the first time you've tinkered with it?

I went to the States a month ago and I bought it pre-owned in Gamestop, so maybe as you said it is modified. And answering about the TWRP I tried to boot into recovery yesterday but I had no success (I got to the default android recovery).
Summing up I'll just buy the full version of the sunshine app and do this thing in the proper way, thank you for your help and time.

Why not verify first you are truly s-on with a fastboot getvar all
That way we can make sure someone didn't flash a faux hboot.

Sorry for the delay. I checked it with fastboot getvar all and it is stock, there's nothing wrong with it. S-ON and locked bootloader.
