Im so sorry, I think I ask stupid Questions you people might get a little angry for my Q's ...
Sorry 4 that

Camera picture prefix instead of image_###.jpg

XDA-readers,
I had a question about the prefix you can select in the camera settings.
With this I mean, when a picture is saved, the name is image_024.jpg,
but with a prefix it's for example 20091215_14:00.jpg.
I read that the prefix can only be selected if you save you're pictures to you're phone in stead of the storage card? This I find weird.
Is there a tweak or am I missing something?
Because on my P3600 it was possible to use the prefix.

I did see this the other day, when I was digging round in the registry, and I'd be happy to try and find it again for you, but before I do, I'm pretty sure that you can only set a static prefix. For example, it's currently image001, image002, image003 etc.. You can change the word "image" to something else, but you can't make it save the image with a datetime like you've suggested.
Still want me to look? I don't really see the point in changing it, personally.
Reason
Thanks for the time!
The reason was that I got used to is with my HTC P3600. Most of the time I have my pictures sorted by name and not by date. The handy thing about the date-time prefix is that I could keep the pictures sortbed by name, and have the pictures sorted by date-time at the same time. Also, you never have the same name for new pictures, for example if you reset the counter.
So that's the reason, for you to deside if you put more time in this topic.
many thanks,
Timo

Yeah, I understand why you'd want that, and I'd probably switch it on myself, if it were an available option. I suppose the next best thing would be an app that when run would scan your images folder and rename all the files, according to their date/time.
Hmmm.... may be something for me to look at tonight
Possible
If that's possible, it would be the next best thing indeed.
But the possibility to put the 'prefix' option on would be awesome
I still don't understand why it can only be switched on when saving on the phone memory instead of storage card...

I'm very dubious about that. Where did you get that information?
Just tried it, and it's stupid, but true.
-Put storage on phone (instead of card)
-Then go to the 'prefix' setting and you see you can change it to date-time
it's also in the manual, page 244:
----
Prefix. The file name of a newly captured photo or video is set to “IMAG” or “VIDEO” followed by a sequential number, for example: IMAG0001.jpg. You can also choose the current Date or Date & Time as the file name prefix.
Note You cannot change the file name prefix when saving captured photos to a storage card. Captured photos are named using the convention IMAGnnnn.jpg (where ‘nnnn’ is the counter), and are saved to the \DCIM\100MEDIA folder on the storage card.

Yeah, that is stupid.
Luckily, there's a registry hack to enable datetime prefix when you have storage on the card
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3036115&postcount=4
Do the registry change and then soft reset. You can then select storage as card and prefix as datetime.
Thanks mate - I've learned something new today, and I'll definitely use it!

Adding custom notification tones / ringtones / alarms

On my nexus 4 I could create new directories ("Ringtones","Notifications", "Alarms") on my virtual sd card and place tones in there. Then the preference lists for choosing these notification types showed the extra tones.
On the nexus 5 this doesn't seem to happen. Does anyone know of a different way to do this?

I'm getting files show in the preference lists up from /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones - however they're just playing a "bong" noise, not the actual mp3.

all my ringtones and custom notifications are working just fine
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Not working for me either on n4, n5, or the n7 with stock Rom. Worked fine when I used aokp.
The only way I can get it to sort of work now is use rings extended then select es file explorer and naturally navigate to the file. Then it plays fine. They just won't show up to preview them the way it normal did.
It does work I put them in the system audio notification ect folder, but I'm trying too avoid messing with system for the first time.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I got it working. Very frustrating. Initially what i did was download all my notifications and such from dropbox directly to my phone and put them in the correct folders. Rebooted ect and it didn't work. I was told to try plugging my phone into the computer and moving the folders and around and back into the right folder. Then I disconnected from computer then they showed up. I wonder if the media scan isn't working unless you unplug USB? IDK, but it works now.
Sounds silly, but try it.

If the device rooted, you can move the files the /system/media/audio/ringtones, notifications etc. folder. Work like charm!

On my Nexus 4 I had my ringtones in /sdcard/Ringtones and that doesn't work with the Nexus 5. I also tried /sdcard/media/Ringtones and that didn't work either. In both cases I even tried rebooting the phone after putting the mp3 files to hopefully trigger a media scan.
So what would the correct location be?
Thanks in advance,

i downloaded it, AirDroided the mp3 to my phone (default is storage/emulated/0) /notifications, and selected it as my Hangouts sms tone...sent an sms to myself, turned off the screen, and bazinga, it works
when you say /sdcard, do you mean you made that directory via pc, or are you referring to ESFileExplorer (or the like) reporting the directory as /sdcard? on Nexii, '/sdcard' just points to storage/emulated/0 [i think it's something called a simlink, but i don't know what that is]
Works for for me... I use ASTRO File Manager
Notification MP3 went into SD Card > Media > Audio > Notification
Ringtone MP3 went into SD CARD > Ringtone

I am referring to the way ES FileExplorer reports it, so /sdcard/Ringtones is in fact /storage/emulated/0/Ringtones.
Could you please try it with putting it into /sdcard/Ringtones as well and see, if Media Storage shows it as a Ringtone.
No idea, why this doesn't work for me, when it works for others.

sorry mate, I'm not doing it again, the result is going to be exactly the same
After some testing I can confirm this on a NON-ROOTED Nexus 5.
You can place notification sound files in either of these two locations, they work equally well. Note that this post, unlike many is typed with care and shows the EXACT path names from root with proper capitalization. I did not try all the bastardizations but case and plural/singular actually matter a lot of times.
/sdcard/Notifications (/storage/emulated/0/Notifications)
/sdcard/media/audio/notifications (/storage/emulated/0/media/audio/notifications)
HOW-EVER-ER...
You must move at least 1 file to the directory from your PC before ANYTHING will show up. It seems, and stands to reason, as others noted that moving from the PC while attached as a media device causes Android to rescan the directories. I did not test if you only need to move 1 file on the whole file system or if you have to do it per directory. But by moving one file out and back FROM THE PC all files in those directories became visible in notification pick lists.
I also rebooted after moving the files around. I probably should have checked before since it may not be necessary. But I am so accustomed to rebooting I forgot to test that.
Hope this clears things up.

hey I got the same problem as you
The ringtone is not being picked default media storage and even it picked in some cases im getting the bong sound
so here is the work around
dont use the media storage as default ringtone picker .if you already did that ..go to settings->apps->all apps->media storage and clear defaults of it
then go to settings ->sounds->ringtone and use esfile explorer in this case ..select the ringtone you got using the file browser then it works
another file manager
as said some posts before i suggest to use another file manager than the stock one, it worked for me
I pluged the phone into the computer USB. Cpoied the ringtone of my choice to the ringtone folder. Did the same with the notification ringtone. Go and select the file in Settings...Sound. Mine were .ogg files
Once you install the sound files in the various locations on the sdcard, such as /sdcard/Ringtones, you can update media storage by doing either of the following:
Go to settings -> apps -> all -> media storage and clear data, then reboot
Or
Use the app ScanMedia to update

Note 3 Tricks for File sharing from PC over WIFI

Its been a long time since I’m transferring files to my Note 3 and previous android phone from my PC over home network WiFi. My ultimate goal was to sync files from PC to my Note 3 locally automatically so that I will be always updated with latest docs.
But so far I’m unable find a best way to do a sync for all files. The one I got is use dropbox to store documents and then use Note 3 stock file manager Dropbox option to get docs files. But this stores all in internal memory, bad luck but no other option. Also Note 3’s this feature has limitation like it can only sync Docs, photos and videos, no other files formats like zip etc.
So here is a tricks I found which may help you in many ways:
I really dislike putting the cable on to transfer files so earlier to transfer files over home network wifi, I used Wifi FTP app to turn on FTP into Device and in windows create a add network location in my computer and once put the UID/Pass, transfer files into phone any time. But this can only write files into Internal memory, not external due to kitkat. Also if it’s a big file I have to copy them again from phone file manager to external memory. In my previous phone I could store large files directly to sd card the same way.
So I was looking for a more convenient way. What I don’t like I have to take the phone out each time to activate FTP and then transfer files. Many people suggested samba file sharing which require root access and it can share your phone into windows network and many other apps but I didn’t like any.
So I got an idea to use this FTP features in reverse way. If you’re using Windows you can easily create a shared folder as FTP server by using IIS manager (no extra software require and nothing will run in background to show your PC) So by this video instruction you will get how to share a folder as FTP server https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWpZkhXnhds even with your router’s help you can access it over internet.
After the IIS setup done you can share a single folder or an entire hard disk partition. After done on your PC, go to your phone stock file manager, at bellow just after the memory status there have a column with + sign folders, those are for shortcuts. Click in one and choose FTP shortcut. Give it a name and put all details from your PC. In password field put your PC account password and choose passive mode. After done tap to connect and you’re all done. Now you have a virtual storage memory. I shared a 100GB media Partition where I stores songs and videos and anytime when the PC is on I can copy files into external memory and can access all files on the phone. Also if you have high-speed wifi (300mbps or over) you can directly stream HD videos.
This way you can create multiple folders and multiple FTP and multiple shortcuts in your device for separate purpose. Also the advantage is you don’t need to share anything over windows network and so other PC can access your shared folders. Its completely different and secure way. Only people having your system local IP and your PC username and password only those can access those shared folder and files.
With this way you don’t need any separate apps on your device and PC as well. Still its not a auto sync wirelessly which is my primary requirements so if anyone have any idea on this please share.
I don’t have any instruction for Mac and Linux as I use only Windows but IIS like stuff should be available in all.
On another perspective I find really useful to send links, pages, images from my chrome browser to my phone. I use 2 extensions for this. One is Google Chrome to Phone Extension and the other is Mighty Text.
And if you hate the cables you can always use "ADB Wireless" . Just connect your pc & phone in same network and transfer your files over wifi.
Or use something like Samba File Sharing, which sets your Note 3 up as a network accessible storage device, so you just open a Window to it on your PC (or get any file sync software to use it as a network device, or set it up as a mapped drive if you like)

fix for extSdCard write on kitkat has been posted. Root is needed ot edit file but the fix is simply add one line to /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml
Code:
name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
<group gid="sdcard_r" />
<group gid="sdcard_rw" />
<group gid="media_rw"/>
<group gid="media_rw"/> line needs to be added.
I'd use Smart Disc Mounter for easy access.

It’s a good app. But it root access require, so no way….. then there is also apps like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nalic.app.wifishare&hl=en which is very small, less memory consumption and its works great. I’ve been using this since long. Just set FTP uid/pass once and easy use. But with this on kitkat no sd card writing. So the process goes like for large files :
Send file to internal memory > open phone file manager > copy that file to sd card.
And with the process I mentioned: open phone file explorer > browse files that you want to copy > copy to sd card.

I would love to use this app, but the issues was:
1) Personally I don’t like this apps UI and look and feel, it’s a small point though.
2) I use this in office too, so sharing the phone internal/external memory isn’t safe over windows network. I doubt this app could let it access by UN/Pass. I’ve never tried this app but knew about this since long. Be solve if one share a particular folder for transferring. But again the same scenario, copy and move in phone explorer.
( If anyone have security concerns like me, on my above mentioned method, you can use a separate windows login with difficult password, you can use a typical port like 9137 which itself work as password, as it will work only locally so no hacking concerns )
3) On kitkat, the same thing, no sdcard write permission. So again copy and move. As for large media files I and many people do not prefer to store them in phone memory.
4) If I could map the phone on PC then sync would be my best solution as I have to work with lots of documents. But this cant do the same for media files otherwise I’ve to store all in internal memory to sync them. Instead I use Dropbox and it works awesome.

Just tried this, probably a nice app. Many installation requires on windows pc .Net framework + Smart Disk app on pc. But the free version only have internal memory option, external require a paid version. I’ve emailed the developer to confirm the paid version have the ability to write on Kitkat. If it does only then I will buy it.
Yeah it's amazing app and I have paid version and I can read/write Ext SD with it.
But if you don't have ExtSD fix applied (earlier you have mentioned you don't want to root) then there may be possibility that it may not work without fixing permission, It's kitkat issue not application problem.

Yes it is absolutely a great app for me so that i can easy access my file work/home with 24/7 mounted on PC so that i can disconnect and connect it again. I installed this on my Note 3 KK i have no problem at all The reason why i recommended this app is it simple, secure fast rather than any wifi file transfer software (FTP) which need to open chrome, or type in ip address or what so ever.
Edit, Btw what do yo mean you cant write into external memory? Did you choose externel mmc option? Check Screenshot below

I agree its a great app and 1st i tried the free version and then the paid one, but except internal memory it still cant write on card. If no card right feature then no use for larger files. Also i dont know if this mounted all time and running background if it could cause battery draining.
If this could support sdcard write in future, I will need this 1st as I cant sync over network by FTP mount.
For now uninstalled it.

Also it has to click mount twice one in phone and again on PC, otherwise it doesnt connects.
Earlier I tried Samsung side sync but that doesnt work over wifi.

LG 360 Cam Download to MicroSD ?

Hi,
I was on a vacation and used the LG 360 Cam heavily. I was so excited with the pictures & videos I took and tried to download all of them from the cam's microsd and not realize that they were actually downloaded and saved to my internal memory until I got the popup saying that my internal memory is full.
Have been trying to find any setting to change the path to my microsd instead of internal memory but couldn't find one. Already provided my feedback in app store to ask the same thing and also dropped an email to the author but received no response so far.
Is there any of this forum member can advise if we can change the path somehow? Thanks.
Have you tried manually moving the files with a file explorer like es file explorer?
Sent from my LG-H830 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I have scoured the camera settings in the app and haven't found the ability to save to the SD Card.
As mentioned above, I've been manually moving the to the SD Card using Astro, tough I have been meaning to test Redirect File Organizer to see if that might do it for me automatically.

Moving the files manually is possible using stock gallery app but only after I downloaded to internal memory. I'm avoiding a condition where my internal memory is full so I can download directly to microsd in my phone.

the app just updated with some new stuff and it mentions something about other storage, and the cam also has an update but i still do not see sd options
it says support adoptable storage for download image/vids

Hi,
I was on a vacation and used the LG 360 Cam heavily.
Thanks.

I was able to edit the photos and videos from the 360 cam I have made a video about it here
https://youtu.be/wszkGqhooxE
Also Fyi there is a new firmware and app update which seems to have improved the quality of the images a bit as well as introducing an interval meter (timelapse) which is cool in 360 for that I used adobe premiere but the results where great
Hello,
can anyone tell me where the files from the 360 cam are stored in the internal Memory on my phone ?
I dont own the camera anymore but want to use the app an my phone for viewing purposes (and taking some screenshots as Little Planets)
