not sure if this is common knowledge:
http://www.v3.co.uk/v3/news/2261749/google-adds-navigation

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667668

Seriously though ... I had Brut installed too - but its no longer required.
Google have given us full blown SatNav - better in some respects that the TomTom system
- voice is softer (easier on the ear)
- side streets names are shown
Only thing it need was voice search ... I cannot post the link here

Sygic Mobile Maps

Hi,
Anyone is using "Sygic Mobile Maps" for navigation?
What's your device?
Is this good alternative to TomTom?
Please if you can drop some notes about this software.
Thanks.
I'm using Sygic Mobile Maps 10. I've tried IGO8, and was a devotee of TomTom7... Sygic basically takes the bes bits of both - IGO is for too complicated and messy for straightforward navigation, tomtom is a little bit tired graphically - SYgic has the same tomtom look and feel, but smoother graphics, starts quickly, gets a fix fast, works well. Route calculation could be a little better, but in general I think its batter than tomtom, and a good solution if you don't want the over-complicatednesss of IGO.
I have tried the Android version, and I think it's crap. It calculates route slowly (Qualcomm 512MHz), it has weird behaviour when moving (the map flickers) and it has a huge GPS lag - it points me on the map with at least 100-200 meters delay. And I really cannot understand their UI experts, because the font is so tinny (on 3.5" display) that when I am driving I barely can read the information (current speed, remaining time, remaining distance etc). The only feature which I like is the implementation of the custom POI alerts. But this cannot make me to use it anyway.
In my opinion, there is not better GPS navigation soft than iGO 8 (for WM) on the market at all.
Sygic promo code
I haven't managed to find a more "appropriate" place where to post my Sygic discount (I looked for threads with "discount", "promo code" etc keywords)
So I hope someone will use the following code: 2709301711525 - it expires in 2 days (30 Apr 2013)
It gives you 30% off on Sygic for Android 13.x :good:
P.S. Please write back here if your purchase went well, so the other people will know that this code is not usable anymore.

I have broken Font on GoogleMaps and Google Youtube, how can I solve this problems ?
in may PPC
\Windows\
included these fonts: cour.ttf, Tahoma.ttf, Tahomabd.ttf, wingding.ttf
\Windows\Font\
included fonts: KinhDich.ttf
I have search on google and follow some instruction like:
"copy a tahoma.ttf then edit as zzTahoma.ttf, then put in system \Windows\ and \Windows\Fonts\
however it seem doesn't solve the problem of Font on popup menu in GoogoleMaps and Youtube Application.
Any ideas for this issue ? THANKS

SENSE-Plugin for Trapster - anyone can do it ?

Well, I am entitled "Senior Member" but still have no clue how to program apps beside some smaller mods I did (which are already superceded by the geniousses here )
I have downloaded "Trapster" on my HD2 to prevent further costly tickets from radar-shots.
Although GPS-Tracker 3 has included radar-warning I still dunno where I can get reliable and up to date data for this function and how to build up a data-bench that updates automatically (in GPS-Tracker by MooNah You have to do this manually)
Now the idea is simple but building an app not doable for me (not enough knowledge, not enough time to collect enough knowledge )
The app should work like this:
1. On home screen a switch to switch on GPS (or using GPS-Tracker as interface ?) AND loads radar-data from an updateable file on SD-card (preferrably Trapster ´cause it´s a very active community and data are very reliable also concerning "hidden mobile police traps preferred spots" )
2. Once movement is dedected the plug-in checks Your position toward any radar-trap and - even if HD2 is in Standby/Screen off - alerts by acoustic and graphic announcement, programmable in distances 1km/500m/200m before radar-trap and then switches to standby/lockscreen/screen off or whatsoever.
3. PlugIn should be VERY small in size and work in all modes (screen off/lockscreen/standby)
4. GPS-Tracker would be the perfect basis but methinks MooNah is not going to implement a fuction like this
Let´s see if someone hops onto this idea .................

Google maps 5.0

As google now have added map cacheing to the maping software, how difficult would it be to download a pack of maps e.g UK, USA or Europe. I have had a look round at some Offline navigation programs and none of the free ones are very good IMHO and the paid for ones are to expensive for what they are, seen as we have a decent mapping and navigation software built in to the phones surely being able to download your own maps to the phone would be an advantage, I am limited by my coding ability but surely theres a dev out there that might have an idea how to do it.

Best applications for Android +wishlist

[edit] This thread seems to be forgotten or unneeded. Last update. [/edit]
Hi. I've found no thread about this topic usable to me, so I want to create one.
I have already a bunch of apps for certain purposes. I would like to ask you all which apps could be better for same purposes or which apps could do different things in the same topic those apps do. If this thread will grow, i will maintain the first post to "rate" some propositions with short descriptions of cons and pros.
Of course, I prefer free apps. Only circumstance where paid can exist is lack of free ones. Where free exists, there is no place for paid ones until it offers great kick to functionality.
1. GPS navigation/toold/positioning
- [PAID] Sygic. Not free, but usable trial, as far seems to be best offline. I see no other choices free, and paid ones I've seen are just worse than Sygic.
- LifeLogger
- GPS Logger
- Open GPS Tracker
2. Drive loggers/recorders/blackboxes etc.
- Autoboy Blackbox, best so far
- CarEyes, good but crashes time to time (not often), mostly when phone rings - only one that is completely free
- DailyRoads Voyager, usable
3. Photography
- Original HTC camera app. I see no point to install anything more maybe not mentioning panorama - I would like to install just one app which does it, but saw nothing good and stable yet.
- 3D Gallery (Gallery++)
4. Video
- Same as above, HTC. Any propositions? (here and above I mean usable features, no fancy needs if you ask me like stupid filters or so)
5. Music/Sound
- Same as above, HTC.
- Need good quality recorder (both mp3 AND wav) with silence detections capable of recording whole day for example (DHD connected to power source)
- Need voice bookreader, not audiobook reader but reader of PDFs for example using voice synthesis like Ivona (must be unintrusive - original google shipped voice synthesis is a crap and lacks other languages)
6. File managers
- Total Commander
- Midnight Commander
- Astro File Manager
7. Backup
- Titanium Backup
- MyBackup Root
Both has bugs. Both cannot solve rom differences while exporting/importing phonebook and call hostory (titanium does not correctly do anything at all between Sense 3.0 and Sense 3.5, and mybackup does not do the call history).
8. Remote
- Avast as a firewall
- DroidWall waiting "in case"
- SSHDroid (the only choice?)
- Network Discovery
- Overlook Fing (actual name: Fing - Network Tools by Overlook), Overlook Whiz
- [BETA but working stable] Droid VNC Server
9. App management
- Android Market REPLACEMENT - AM is sh*tty app. Crashes, unreadable (no option to change font size or so, I want to save my eyes), has only basic filters on searches, etc. Someone should use the api and write stable and flexible one which can download apps too from market (local management isn't enough! - plenty of apps here)
10. Task managers
- System tuner
- Elixir
11. Battery guards/monitors
- System tuner
12. Call
- Call Recorder (only available for DHD recording from line directly)
- Sanity
And RunKeeper for fitness....
I've not seen it, but added to the list (good score on market, and seems to be quite usable from the descriptions)
Why not also posting games? Great topic, very useful.
I don't mind about games, but I'll not look at them, I can just re-post them at first post basing on market popularity rating. I have no time and eyes for such games . Feel fre to talk about any good software, games too
