hey hows everyone doing? i was wondering if there is an app that i can use for my htc hd2 phone? any help would be appreciated thanks.
are they not illigal in most places?
But as far as I know there isn't. sorry.
WTF is a police scanner? You mean a GPS-navigator, which shows you the radar-cam in traffic? Try a look a sygic-mobile maps.
But without any information what "a police-scanner" is and where you have seen this app, the information from your side is very poor....
Hmm.
I think you mean Scanning RF channels, As this isnt part of the HD2 Hardware the answer is no, sorry. Dont think I have heard of any mobile that does...
Only thing I could think of would be streaming via web realtime updates but also never heard of any sites that do it...
So basicly no..

Yep, you can listen to police scanners from around the world with WunderRadio
police radio
Hmmm, why. Just why would you want this?
The iPhone has it.
There are also programs for the HD2. A Dutchman has made a program where you can track the police, firefighters, ambulance and Royal Dutch Rescue Society via RSS feed and google maps mobile. Perhaps there is something in other countries.

To avoid the cops? I thought that was obvious
Thanks for the post, listening to police in the USA is not against the law.
Actually Radio Shack sells receivers, but with the digital invasion, it is getting tougher to hear them, frequency hoping and such.
Analog signals were easier to follow
I couldn't get wunderradio to work for me, but this is what I did do to FINALLY get a LIVE POLICE SCANNER.
Download http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA032810/
GSPlayer for PocketPC and install it.
Then go to http://m.radioreference.com/?a=la and find the .mp3 stream you like.
Then just copy it into GSplayer. I did this copy and paste way with mymobiler.
It should buffer and then connect.
IF you guys find an easier way please share.
OMG... I'm an idiot. It works with Wunder Radio. Just copy the url into the "OpenURL" and it should connect. For the life of me I didn't see "OPENURL" and was trying to use the search function....
Now we have two ways...
You're looking for an app called WunderRadio... It's kinda no frills, but I can stream internet radio from around the world - and Police Band Frequency is pre-installed for MOST U.S. cities
yeah metta 24 is absolutely correct. my friend with an iphone has an app where you can listen to live police feeds. lol its not illgeal and usually you can get them from the county's website of where one lives. lol some old people listen to live police radio feeds to see if there is trouble in a neighborhood. i just thought it would be nice to have one and i saw it on the iphone
Yeah the iPhone has a couple of these apps. They are pretty cool.
That is one thing I'm going to miss and probably be pissed off about once I make the permanent switch to my HD2 from my iPhone.
The iPhone is the preferred platform to make a mobile app for in the eyes of most businesses. I mean the App store has only been around for a couple years and it has pretty much blown away what WinMo has to offer.
Yes there are a lot of "apps" for WInMo but they are strewn all over the place. If you look in M$ Marketplace under free/utilities there's like 14...
14?! Come on. There are like a few hundred or thousand for iPhone.
Oh well though. The positives still outweigh the negatives for me.
uhh trapster?
anyone know of a UK one ?
Did everyone completely ignore my post? I showed how to get police scanners on your WMO device...

Then you need iTunes my friend... And good luck!
didn't know Iphone had forums that coded FREE programs for personal use(they don't)....without having to 'Jailbreak' it.
Jobs, won't even let Iphone transfer songs via bluetooth to other phones....That's Bullsh*t
there is no Iphone counter-part to XDA!!!
did you try Apple.com forums which I am not linkin here...here is 1 of many I ran across just by typing Iphone forum in google
good luck with finding stuff for your crippled iphone.. no more FREE stuff for you!
what you don't understand yet is people are giving you a hint that they don't like iphone, which means this is the wrong place to ask this questions about iphone.
Yes My Friend. Apple has not relized there SDK yet. They said it should be out soon. But I doubt it. IIRC they are going to charge for it too, So I'm betting anyone who takes the time to Buy the SDK and Develope Software, is going to charge for it.
Oh and given the MEDIA horse poop that surrounds the iPhone I bet everyone is going to try and cash in. I see very little if any "Free" programs for the iPhone. Unless you count iPhone Capatable AJAX pages... Which I don't. Plus the iPhone Doesn't support 3G, good luck with your Slow Interwebs.
There's a really great magicseaweed surf app for the iPhone. I was wondering if there was anything similar for the HD2 rather than just having to log onto the internet or bookmark a particular site.
Thanks
Rik
yeah a surf report app would be cool. but the one on the i-phone is on the i-phone and hence it sucks. plus how dare you speak of such rubbish phones on this forum. YAK..
yeah so anyone know of one
haha, yeah sorry I mentioned that other phone thingy.
You don't even surf spzero. lol.
This is like a total neccessity for me! Maybe we could design a snowboarding app...that would benefit both of us mate.
yeah but theres always nice snow at xscape & chill factor dude it would seam a bit pointless, lol tho we can go out for free now i might come over next week with my landrover and go drive us up some mountain for some sweet fresh powder.

But that's what the iPhone app is... pretty much anyways.
I thought it was a marvellous marketing swizz by Apple to rebrand internet shortcuts as "Apps"... sheez!
But that's by the by, the old Magicseaweed "app" (ahem) works fine for fashionably challenged phones too.
http://iphone.magicseaweed.com/#_home
If you want to avoid stepping thru' the location menu (Europe/UK&Ireland/England/etc) each time you browse, here's a tip.
To get a direct link to your surfspot,
Visit, http://iphone.magicseaweed.com/#_home
Drill down thru' the links to your spot
Look at the URL and make a note of your spot number (at the end of the URL)
In the URL replace the #_spot bit with forecast.php?id= instead
Save a bookmark for it
For example,
For the Bude report, the menu will take you to http://iphone.magicseaweed.com/#_spot6, change that to http://iphone.magicseaweed.com/forecast.php?id=6 and bookmark it.
HTH
Personally tho' I still prefer looking at the full webpage
(that's why I've got a 800x480 screen for, ain't it??)
Hey, thanks man. I must have been having a totally brain dead day that day when I actually did look at the link on the magic seaweed site. It is just a URL, not an app. I'm a total idiot.
So yeah I have saved my spot as a favourite that I can access straight from the HTC sense menu...one click and I am there. Perfect, now I can check on the fly. I seem to recall looking up the magicseaweed site on my phone and it not particularly behaving for me, that's why I made a thread asking for an app. This works fine.
Thanks mate. Now all I need is for my broken elbow to get better, then I can hit the waves. lol

sounds good but i wonder how much space this app will take up? i know i tried to use IGO and that app took up way too much storage space for my tastes.
I had Sirius for 2 years, before and after they merged with XM Radio. The radio I had was awesome as I could record songs that were playing, save mp3's to it and carry it in my pocket like an mp3 player. However, their content sucked. I heard songs from bands I never heard of and alot of them sucked. I did hear some that were good that I don't hear on the radio, but time after time it was horrible.
And even though the app is free, it looks like you still have to pay for there service.
yeah, that app is coming, but it really chaps me that they they charge extra for the service to use this. IMO they are complete idiots for not giving it to customers already pay for their service. I have xm in both of my cars, but I really think slacker is better, I doubt I'll renew next time it rolls around because slacker is free on my phone or least some version of it is.
Hey, this is pretty good news. I had Sirius in my car and it's so good to be able to choose the content you want to hear... saves so much time. I've discovered so much new music that I haven't heard before. Best of all, there are no ads!
My wife has sirius in her car, but i will not be using this app because it looks as though you have to pay extra for the online service. Pandora works for me!
I'll stick with slacker/pandora/last.fm/iheartradio/imusic tao
Yeah, I'll probably stick with Padora unless i can get that one show. What's that guys name...
I've been using Pandora for quite a bit now and find that the same songs keep popping up for the same station! I wish it didn't replay songs that were already played before... that is, without thumbing down on all the songs. That's the only gripe that I have about it.
Looks like it's for the nexus one or droid...
If they had howard 100 and howard 101, I would be all over this!

Hoo hoo! I invented Android, Robin
Not sure what content will actually make it on the app but I'm figuring that if you are a paying sub you might try logging in via the website once the new flash player is released it would probably work.

I find it welcome news. I have a subscription to XM and own stocks in SiriusXM. All I can say is...it's about time.
This is a good thing for Android users, but I wont buy it. I will stick to Slacker, at least Slacker has explicit contents
*Crap- I posted this in the wrong section... Can an admin please move this to general
I am a Verizon user, and from what I hear, only sprint users are privy to the new Blackboard Mobile app on the market... I didn't even know that Google differentiated between providers as to what they are allowed to download until today... Anyhow, if someone could upload the Blackboard Mobile apk, I would greatly appreciate it. I know other Verizon users are also looking for this and I'll gladly share it with them also.
If you don't know what Blackboard Mobile is, it's an online classroom environment used by universities so students can see assignments, download notes, and upload homework - The app is free to download, but is, for whatever the reason, restricted to Sprint users only.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the upload! But the program itself is still restricted to sprint phones... The apk installs, and the app opens, but when I chose my school, it says that I am not on a Sprint Device and refuses to load anything... How restarted.
Thanks for your help though! Maybe some genius programmer on the Verizon side knows how to fool an app into believing I'm on a sprint network..

You could possibly trick it by shutting off your cellular connection and use wifi... not sure though.
Good luck, bummer it didn't work out.
I didnt even know this existed either, hoping my school enabled mobile also.
just like the iphone version.. still doesnt work with my school either.. whats the deal JUST ACCEPT THE FREAKING APP UNIVERSITIES
should i go ask tomorrow? hahha
wow, nice find! My school hasn't enabled it either though. What can you do with it?
Just a thought. Try loading a Sprint PRL. That may do the trick.
Awesome thanks! My school uses blackboard and I never thought to look for an app for it.
This is great. Downloading now
Edit: It crashes all the time on me. Not stable for my Evo
Why would anyone want this? It has a 2-star rating on the Market. It looks like total trash.

If you go to school, or your organization uses blackboard its actually quite handy my friend.. only reason the review is so low is because its sprint exclusive. So people try to use it, can't, and rate it bad. What do you want in a blackboard app, naked women and free drinks?
It wasnt working on the evo, emailed dev and they fixed it within a day. it works now and it works great, id give it 4 or 5 stars definitely worth it.
Alot of school's havent activated this, I asked my school about it, and they said they haven't added it because they haven't got the site where they want it, feature wise, before they add it. Even though I doubt what they do will have any effect on this.
And yeah, the bad ratings are because of all the people ranting about it only being for sprint.
I would love to see someone with the new T-Mobile Garminfone pull out the apk and see if we can use it in our Incredibles. I would just love to see how it would work on a real powerhouse of a phone ;-)

Thanks for sharing =)
So anything you rip off another phone is illegal, how come we do it with alot of stuff on here... then again what do i care /ripriprip
The problem with this is that it's the map data mostly. When I was on Windows Mobile, we had the same problem with Microsoft Voice Command. Even though it came with most WM phones, you weren't aloud to share the .cab (equivalent to .apk) file for it. In fact, cooking roms with it was kinda frowned upon. The problem was the licensing, because Microsoft actually charged for the app, for the few phones that came without it (the manufacturer had the option to use it, I'm guessing they decided to just pay for it to have it come loaded). Even when TomTom came out with a "trial" for one specific WM phone, the cracked program wasn't allowed on XDA, even though cracking it just made it possible to use it on other phones...... You still had to buy the maps from TomTom for the phone..... It's all just a CYOA policy, and it's what makes sure XDA won't be shut down!
So I guess the question is: if I am able to find the.apk, would it work on my inc. Has there been any success stories?
It would certainly be interesting to find out. I remember someone in the past had made a GPS Phone based off Windows Mobile. I can't remember who offhand, but I'd think it would be more profitable for them to release the software for a reasonable price than to offer it only on their phone, which who knows how much they're really making off it. I mean it comes down to profit, but I'd think that considering my DInc came with built in Nav for free, and is a much better phone, why pay a premium for a phone with GPS, when you can get a better *phone* and add GPS software for a minimal cost (or use the FREE one included!). Just my thoughts though.....
