Kitchen Problems - Wing, P4350 ROM development

Ok using Bebe's kitchen from trib's cooking tutorial. I have some ext package folders that I am trying to paste into the Ext folders. When ever I do and wherever the platformbuilder crashes and I have to rebuild the Ext folder because deleting them out doesn't fix it. As soon as I rebuild (unziping original download) it all goes back to normal. I don't have cabs for these packages. Is there a way to paste ext package folders in there somewhere?

My suggestion is to download this and put it right into C:\
http://rghost.net/download/1353368/621cd1e433ea93137db5f7720d9e155ec0a758b6/CAB_Converter.zip
It is a Ext package creator.. You do use cab files and it makes ext folders from that cab..
I have every cab that I ever had turned into an Ext folder in my C:\CAB_Converter\Converted_EXT directory so I never lose the packages that i've created.
Whenever there is a new kitchen I just copy from that directory into the C:\kitchens\SuperJustKitchen\Working_Folder\EXT\SHARED\0096 directory of the kitchen directory.
If you need any Ext folders or .cab files post back here and I'll help you find them, chances are I already have it.

Thank you. I will try it out. I used the the built in cab converter for some cabs that i did have and had the same problems.

attention all big storage users and others !

hi guys / gals
i am using the big storage
as soon as i hard reset ... all the files of the ext rom that i have personally selected get installed one by one automatically !
just like when i used to have the ext rom !!
i have been using the following method for quiet a while now and am quiet surprised that many dont know about it !
this is TOTALLY the product of a very talented developer called ..TOENAILED (thanks man )
steps :
1) create a zipped file containing all the cab files of the extrom and any other if u want like resco , etc and name this .. ExtROM (please name exactly like this)
2) make a normal folder and name it 2577 and put the zipped file into it along with the "autorun" file i am posting here (so there r 2 files in the folder)
3)put this folder into yr sd card
4)hard reset .... and .... enjoy seeing the installation of the files as if u had an ext rom !!
and then go to the "memory" settings and see the 27mb and enjoy "not having" the ext rom !! Shocked
How about just applying the storage hack real-time, without installing any of those CAB's? I don't like them taking up my preciousssss space
Anyway, can you upload this file to the ftp?
ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Magician/
Cause the file doesn't appear to be downloadable anymore, i'd like to give it a try, thanks!
well thats a personal choice !
those files dont take up much if any of yr precious space
but
saves u the trouble of installing some of the small but very good utilities in the form of cab files like .. tray launch , psShutxp and some of the files form the ext rom
anyways
i have updated the file above and its working now
ps . even after installing all the files of the ext rom and a few extra and that too automatically after hard reset ... i still get 15+ in the both storage and programs sections on the memory slider 8)
please rename the autorun file exactly like this ... autoRUn

How can I install EXTROM file?

After upgrade to Big Storage, I would like to install the ExtROM file originally in O2Mini ROM. Can anybody tell me how I can proceed? I would like to have automatic execution of all CAB file in the EXT ROM.
Thanks !
Basically you need to copy the folder "Extended ROM" from your device to your Storage Card *before* applying the BigStorage patch, because obviously after the patch they are gone.
To do this, you must cold-boot the device, and after screen calibration do a warm-boot *before* it starts to install the Extended ROM programs.
Then you will see a folder "Extended ROM" in File Manager (it is hidden after the automatic installation of Extended ROM files).
It is advisable to make a backup copy of that folder on your PC, because the files are in CAB format which means they are deleted after installation (if you do not write-protect your Storage Card).
Then, after getting BigStorage, you need to open the folder on your Storage Card and start AUTORUN.EXE or START.EXE (depending on your version), thus simulating the process that happens after a Cold Boot with an existing Extended ROM.
1.Copy the Extended ROM files to My Devices
2.Rename folder name to Extended_ROM
3.Running AutoRun.exe file and waiting for reboot!
Install ExtROM File
Actually I have tried to make the copy of ExtROM files in Storage Card under folder name EXTROM and run "Autorun". But it was failed. I will try the suggestion again.
Thanks !

how extract roms/cabs from sd backup (romupdate.exe)

I used a romupdate.exe from http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BackupExistingRom and I dump it to my SD Memery Card (512MB). I get a 488MB raw file ... and i don`t know what to do next. I must have a extendend rom from backup or cabs from him.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=MagicianRomLayout
I dumped this rom with d2s ... what to do next to extract this ExtROM from dumped raw file ?
Please reply solution for this case.

if you have a working magician, then take a look in your windows directory for a file called "loadvdisk.exe" this will unhide your extended rom, then you can copy the required cab files to SD card.

Apps on storage card

Hi,
since I'm running REALLY LOW at internal storage I tinker with the idea of putting some apps to storage card. Thus I'm wondering what if I reflashed my Herald someday. Will I have to reinstall those apps as well or will I be able start them right from SD? What about the app's [email protected] Windows folder?!
Cheers
Hello
If you decide to do a hard reset, then you must reinstall all the programs in SD ..
Whenever you change ROM or you make a hard reset, you'll need to reinstall all CAB
It depends on whether the CAB installs files to different locations, and whether the CAB contains registry entries. Check your CAB file using MSCEINF to see if it copies files to the windows folder and if it has registry entries. Also check the [DefaultInstall] section of the .inf file for the entry 'SelfRegisterDll'. If your CAB file contains any of these things then you'll have to reinstall it after a hard reset.
A large percentage of CABs only contain a single file with no registry entrys and would not have to be reinstalled after a hard reset.

Hi J03M4N,
With your help (Thanks) there is a new version for MSCEInf (version 2.6) :
Contributions of version 2.6
• Backslash added in rebuilt Inf file, at item [SourceDisksNames], if specified folder has not one at the beginning.
• Due to a bug in new version of mshtml.dll in Internet Explorer 8 Beta for drawing a background image in ListView, I have taken away the background image in the Open Cab Dialog Box.
• There is now a new column in the tab "Folders", with real values written in the CAB without transformation of %CExx%.
Download links in my signature.
not all apps have to be reinstalled. even apps which require registry keys might write them when you run the app from the SD card without installing it.
but remember that not all apps can be installed on the SD card..
Which can't? Any specific ones?
Cheers
i can't name you all the apps which can't
some can, some can't.
for instance, you can't install iGO8 on your storage card...
just install the app on your device and choose Storage Card... (which doesn't always appear as an option)... you can check after installing if it installed on your card or not.
max, uninstall.
if you have installed to your storage card you can just put links to them in the windows\startmenu\ folder
theres an app for that

shrotcut creation

I have a little proble. I've mounted pim backup on my storage card, and it is a exe file, so i can run it only if I go on storage card and tap on it. is there a way to place it (or any other exe like it) in the application tab of m2d?
Yes there is!
Go to hklm/software/HTC/Manilla2D/Launcher
Then choose the one you want it to be in and put it the directory to that exe. It should work i think
thanx, i'll try it as soon as i can!
