Please tell me How to add Buttons link and WinMo task Manager - General Questions and Answers

1.- First I wanna know how to add buttons to the Button manager... i mean Settings > Buttons > the box where the "button 1 (hold)" should be isn't there... just a "repeat Control" and "repeat Speed" slider... (note to readers, i'm using a spanish rom, i'm not sure if this is exactly what it says in the english rom but it should be similar).
1.5.- Also, i have another phone (the first one is a Motosurf and the second is a HTC Touch Viva) and it does have the box "assign app to button" (or something like that, read previous note), but it just displays one button, the "Send" key and it's mapped as "button 1 (hold)".
Is there a way to add more buttons? so i can add the volume up or volume down and the "end key" (hold) options???
2.- And the final and most importatn question is if there's a way to activate the windows default task manager on the motosurf, the one that looks like an arrow pointing downwards on the home screen... i know that some roms have it and some don't (i had that experience on the touch viva), but i want to know if there is a way to just activate it on the stock rom without flashing.
Thanks in advance for any help that you can give me, and sorry if my english is poor and for the lack of screenshots to explain myself better.

If you're a programmer you can probably change it.
If you want the software to change the buttons that you can't change, than you should buy AEVButton Plus. http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
Otherwise you can only change the buttons that the settings allows you to.

Has anyone come up with working solution for mapping hw keys?
I found this thread on Diamond, but no help:

I am using AEKMap to enable both latin/cyrillic input on my TP's hw keyboard. You may google it and give it a try.
There is no need for additional software, just follow this post and you'll get the answer. Worked for me.
Try AE Button Plus.
B.
I think you did not quite follow me here.
I dont mean to change layout of QWERTY, but hw-keys like "Back" and "Home" at front panel of TP.
This is becaus I find home and back quite useless and would much more prefer to have ALT+TAB (change program) and close program (REALLY close them, not leave running background as back seems to randomly do).

And that is EXACTLY what i also want to know....
The total lack of hardware-keys on this device is already disturbing enough, but being locked out of the option to remap any of them is truely horrid...
Anyone know of any reg-hacks maybe?
I've got Spb PocketPlus 4 installed btw, and it's got a button mapping function as well...
But when i go into the buttons map, some weird black icons appear with no name attached to it. Can anyone make anything of this? As you can see i've been able to map one thing only: the Spb close-button-contex-menu, which allows me to switch task KW-buttons only....
But this is not enough for me, i need ALT-TAB aswell and off course a VoiceCommand button.
And regrettably the Rapael doesn't have that many HW keys to start with...
I want also to use Home/Back buttons for different purposes, but I didn;t found a solution yet.
Gotten a step closer to what i really need over this weekend:
In the button dialogue (with extra generated buttons by Spb PP+4) there was only one other button that had a name...
So i tried this one and go figure: it seems to be the " <= " (or 'back') button. In the dialogue it's called the OK button. I've got it set to the close contaxt menu now, and mapped Voicecommand to long-pressed answer key...
So far, this setup is to my satisfaction, and after two months of use this phone finaly behaves completely the way i want it to...

AEBP will also *learn* any keys it doesn't have. So you could use the "Add Button" option, press your Home key, and away you go.
The way I have it set up, holding down the phone key will activate voice command (default behavior).
But remember, assigning commands to the Home or OK buttons (that "Back" button is actually an "OK" button) doesn't unmap what they normally do so you will always go home first and then it will perform <x>-function that you assign.
Personally, I don't like to program the Home or OK buttons because I find that they are "trickier" to press. What I mean is, if you tap the OK button near it's center or close to the left, it doesn't register a press. If you tap it sort of with the long part of your thumb (which is more natural when holding the device in one hand), it registers it. I've tried this with two TP's now and the button behaved the same way on both. Due to this, I find it unreliable to map anything to it.
In any case, as I mentioned earlier, the Volume buttons, Phone and End keys will be unmapped once you attach AEBP to them but the others will not.
Oh -- I forgot to mention, you can map the directional pad as well if that is your thing.

It does work, but it sends an OK command first.
I wrote a little utility for hard-coded buttons such as these for another Pocket PC I had (an ASUS P527) called "DoNothing.exe" but we can't apply that work-around here. What I would do is replace the EXEs of apps the hardware keys called with my DoNothing.exe, but in the case of the TP, we definitely don't want to replace START.EXE (which I believe to be the likely EXE (haven't tested this)).
If I find a way to map those buttons reliably, I will let you know, tk_Berlin. So far tho, I've been quite pleased with just using the four buttons I mentioned. The more I use this device and the more I ponder my decision to stay with TFL3D instead of the normal WM interface, the more I realize that I don't need half the add-ons I used to use prior to having TF3D. I am accustomed to very, very, very *heavily* customizing my device, but the setup I have now works great and I really haven't lost nething from my old WM world. In fact, prolly gained a few CPU cycles and memory to boot.
I don't miss the Today Screen at all!!! Now that I think about it, I never really looked at it.
Cya!

PTT remap/fix

Good Evening
I downloaded a PTT fix from http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/1054343-1.html & installed the .cab file. It created a button 5 option in my settings/buttons menu. However, when I set that option for camera instead of PTT...it still initializes the PTT vs the camera. I'm going to assume that the PTT is not button 5 on the fuze, hence why it won't work. Does anyone know which button that it might be, and how i could edit that file? or make my own work around?
Thanks
The PTT might be hard wired to the PTT hardware needed for ATT's push to talk, kinda silly really I don't see why they still push this I've yet to meet anyone on ATT who uses this feature, maybe one day ill run into a cunstruction worker who knows.

I'd love to see a solution to this too. I tried the Tilt registry hacks that let you re-map the PTT button but all that did was disable the button completely. (Which is still an improvement because at least now I don't have the PTT message come up every time I accidentally hit that button...)
Black93300ZX said:
CONFIRMED, this is how to keep that annoying PTT message from coming up on American Touch Pro's (Fuze maybe? whatever).
Keep in mind, you can't individually map this button with this method, that may come later.
Step 1: Registry editor, remove HKLM/Services/PTT
Step 2: Create a key in HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Keys called "40C2"
Step 3: Create a string within that key, titled Name with the value being "Button 6" or whatever
Step 4: Soft reset.
From this point on you can remove 40C2, but your PTT button will simply perform with a press what your send button performs with a hold (which can be remapped easily... Settings/Buttons/Button1(Hold)).

I were to remove that string after i install the .cab, would that disable PTT,and the settings menu take over?
I realize I can do a registry hack, but I was looking for something that A) would be easy to install/uninstall B) would add an easily accessible option to the settings on the phone.

Um that is the easiest way right now.
And it does as B). Just change what Button 1 (Hold) to whatever you want and that's what your PTT button will act as.
Alright, its Button 1...awesome. Now lets see if I can find that setting ;-)
In settings/personal/buttons
...there is only an option for button 5, and button 5(hold). 1-4 do not show up there. How would I go about editing button 1's action?
Thanks alot
I found a program called AE BUTTON PLUS, it allows you to map any hardware button on the device. The PTT button is not listed by default so you need to "add button" it will then ask you to press the hardware button you would like to map, after that it shows up on the list and you can map it... I have found that adjusting long press setting causes issues, but tap and double tap work fine. I have tap disabled since I always hit the key by accident, double tap is Torch. Working fine so far. I believe you can even map individual keys on the keyboard in the same way.
I tried to use AE Button Plus(registered it), and had no luck creating an action for the PTT button. So I followed the registry ediit intructions, again..with no avail.
My PTT is disabled, which as previously stated, is better than nothing.
I would like to clarify two things. Does 40C6, and 40C7 relate to PTT on all devices, or is this a phone by phone basis? 40C6 could be PTT on a tilt, but the touch may be 33D4. Noobish question, but I'm not sure how this stuff works.
Also you said its "Button 1". Again, does this refer to hardware button # 1. Or is this just a random name we give it so we know which one to edit in the buttons menu?
So if I use 40c6, and 40c7 for "Button 1", and "Button 1(hold)"...it should work?
...I also used Button 6 & Button 6 hold as in the Tilt instructions. Same function.
I appreciate the assistance gang!
any1 have any luck?

Long End Key remap

Hi. Suppose I just want to remap the long end key press button to something other than the HTC dafault. Do I need AEBPlus for that? I assume that would be a overkill for remapping just one button. The HTC interal app only allows to either display the quick list or make 4 other actions. I was wondering if I can change that to something else without using the AEBPlus app. I just wanted to run the comm manager rather than the htc options
Thanks
Don't get your hopes up about AE Button cause it don't work if your using touch gl. Apparently touch fl keeps regrabning the keys so sometimes they work snd sometimes they dont. I gave up. i think ot might work better with the hold button but like i said i got frustrated snd gaveup when thr suthor told mr there was nothing he could do..

Actually I don't need it working with the TouchFlo, as I don't use TF. I only want to remap the long end press button to the comm manager. Of course it would have been great to also map a long press on the Home button or the Back button but I think I read that's not possible even without TouchFlo ?
what no one answered ? wow i thought that's easy,a metter of registry or link change. quite disappointing.
I am also looking for a way to change the back button to run some other program...
How to assign a shortcut to EndKey, SendKey ....
Not tried myself on TP, but maybe it's useful:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356322
Create a shortcut in your windows directory called long_end.lnk
whatever the shortcut points to will run when you long press the end key.
There are a few of these hard press shortcuts
long_end.lnk
long_send.lnk
long_power.lnk
long_ptt.lnk
short_power.lnk
short_ptt.lnk
I can remap all the buttons except the Long End. Somehow the Long End button is mapped to the phone Lock. Where can I disable that and allow for my own?
Start, settings, system tab, long press end key
if you don't see what you want there ... we might have to figure out how to disable the long press htc software
I cooked my own rom and I didn't put in long press end key. I assumed it wouldn't have installed any reg settings for it, guess I'll have to check. Thanks!
For some reason if you don't add HTC Long End to the ROM, it will stick on one setting and can't be changed. Weird, but fixable. If you install HTC End Key (the cab is somewhere on here) it will override the previous setting and then you can either select your preference from within the program or create a custom link. Not sure about the second idea working, since I haven't tried it myself, but I've been able to override HTC End Key when it was installed on previous phones. You could also consider un-installing it after installing it if all else fails.

Yeah, I recooked the Long End Key Press in, but there isn't a custom selection part of it so that must be a different version of End Key software. It's ok not too important.

Just for those who wonder, AEButton can remap everything (single, double, triple, long presses) on all keys except two: Long Green and Long Red.
You either need to disable Long End Key software or find some other way to hard map these.
Using my HTC Touch Pro. I am still unablet to map the Long press End Key to something other than the limited options that the HTC Long Press End Key program settings offer.
I simply wish to map the long press end key to run a different program. I tried the suggestion offered on this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1783616#post1783616) but it doesn't work. I put a file called Long_End.lnk in the windows directory, soft reset the device and still it doesn't map to that. Only displays the HTC 'quick list'.
I am not running TF3D.
Anyhelp ? To map to any program I choose ?
Thanks
So no buddy managed to map the End button long press to some other program than the options that the HTC's prg in the settings allow ?
I want to remap the End key to open Phone Weaver Profiles which is much more useful than what the HTC Long End Pressapp offers.

That's not the full story ....
on ex: HTC HD
there are buttons:
"Green Key", -> mapping possible but without Long Press
"Home Key" -> nothing possible !!!
"Back Key" -> not really mapable (mapping possible, but always send to wanted mapping ~backspace and jump back to Homescreen and then the mapped button will execute - little bit strange ..)
Longpress also doesn't work
"Red Key", -> mapping possible but without Long Press
tried with aebutton also (last version)
some additional ideas ?

Fuze PTT button remapping problem

Before I start, I apologise if this has already been answered elsewhere, as I've spent about five hours trawling through threads looking, in vain, for a solution.
I have bought a new Fuze but the PTT button causes a problem with the aluminium case I bought for it. The problem is that the case is for a Touch Pro and the latch is right where the PTT button is (meaning the button is permanently depressed when the case is closed). It cannot be remapped in Settings/Buttons.
All I want to do is to be able to disable the button completely, or failing that make it an 'OK/Close' button. I have got rid of the PTT link but would greatly, greatly appreciate if someone could tell me what commands should be written in "short_PTT.lnk" and "long_PTT.lnk" to be able to do this. I've tried just leaving both blank but then the PTT button brings up an error message when pressed about not being able to find the shortcut.
Is there a way to achieve either of these solely using the registry, and without using third-party software?
Thanks for your time.
Here's full instructions on remapping your PTT button: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=598
To just disable it so it does nothing follow the steps at the beginning:
Using a registry editor delete HKLM\Services\PTT.
Next delete HKCU\Software\HTC\PTT.
Navigate back to the Windows directory and rename PTT to PTT2
Now create a new folder called PTT and set the properties as System and Read Only
If you follow all of those instructions and want to map it to close use this app and map it: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1249
Problem fixed
You're a great person, bugsykoosh. I had done the first part you suggested, but the second link - and use of a tiny program called Zap It - fixed it perfectly.
Thank you heaps.
Okay so what is the joke why does this work for EVERYONE, except me. I mean seriously. I followed the steps but nothing. I press the button and I get nothing at all except the noise that indicates the keypress was succesfull WHAT GIVES.

This is overkill. You don't need to mess around with the PTT directory. If you just stop the PTT service from running, nothing will look in the PTT directory and its contents don't matter.
Just change HKLM\Services\PTT\Dll to an empty string and soft reset. The button will be completely inert. You can then remap it using AEBP or the short_PTT/long_PTT shortcuts, if you choose, or just leave it inactive.
Today
WMM,
If you change as you suggested, it looks like the long and short still work. I've remapped and did all the steps, but it looks like yours may be a little easier/cleaner. I'm curious, and I've looked extensively to no answer, but if I want the short press to just send my Fuze back to "Today" (in TF3D), is there a way to do that? If I press Start the first option is Today and this does exactly what I want. There's no shortcut that I can locate anywhere (and I'm sure it's my ignorance/technical inability) and the next step is to make a copy of that shortcut and name it short_PTT which I can handle. Any suggestions?
So, it isn't possible to map the PTT button from the Settings - Buttons screen? Looks like the method linked to above, with the short_PTT and long_PTT shortcuts, won't allow me to map the PTT buttons to work as the left and right softkeys.
As far as I know (which isn't very far, sometimes), the only way to get the PTT button to execute "Home" or the left/right soft keys is to use AE Button Plus. There may be applications that do those things that you can download (I know there are for things like toggling wifi and bluetooth, killing the current application, etc.) -- these are really tiny utility applications that are specifically intended for mapping to a button -- but I don't know of ones that do those particular things. (AEBP is able to do all those things, as well as giving you four mappable events -- single, double, triple, and long press).
okay seriously here do the links need to have special settings or anything. I mean what attributes should they have. Nothing works!
For the life of me, I can't remap my PTT button.
On a short press, it activates the voice command system.
On a long press, it activates the camera.
This seems to be from flashing NATF's ROM.
Following instructions above, I have no HKLM\Services\PTT or HKCU\Software\HTC\PTT in my registry editor.
I did the short and long_PTT/link and PTT folder in Windows. The links work there, but doesn't change what happens when the button is pushed.
I have AEButton Plus, but can't get it to add the PTT as a button.
Any suggestions where I can find in the registry what is making my PTT button act as it is? I'd rather have it do nothing than what it is doing now.
Thanks,
Chris

Yes, I believe NATF did not add the PTT stuff from AT&T into his ROM; the instructions above are for the stock AT&T ROM. You'll have to ask NATF how to remap the PTT button using his ROM.

I'm not sure what you're talking about here. As I mentioned in my last posting just above this one, this probably only works in a ROM that supports PTT, like the stock AT&T ROM; if you're running something that doesn't support PTT, it would be a real surprise if "short_PTT" and "long_PTT" meant anything special, no? Assuming you are running the stock AT&T ROM, here's a step-by-step procedure for creating the short_PTT link to point to the Camera application using the built-in File Explorer.
1) Open File Explorer. If the drop-down box at the upper left says anything other than "My Device," tap the small down-arrow next to the label and then tap on "My Device."
2) Tap on "Windows" and wait a few seconds for the folder contents to appear.
3) Scroll down until you see "Camera" (the one that's 794K). Tap and hold that until the pop-up menu appears and then tap on "Copy".
4) Tap on "Menu" in the lower right, then "Edit", then "Paste Shortcut".
5) Scroll to the very bottom of the folder contents and you'll see "Shortcut to Camera" that was created. (The name may be truncated, depending on the size of the font and the screen orientation. Mine says, "Shortcut to Ca..." in portrait orientation. In any event, it will be the last thing in the folder contents.) Tap and hold on that until the pop-up menu appears and then tap "Rename". Then just type "short_PTT" to overwrite the existing name and hit return.
That's all you need to do. (If the application you want to run with the PTT button is in a different folder from \Windows, navigate there, tap-hold on the application executable, and select "Copy". Then navigate to \Windows and do steps 4 and 5 exactly as above.) This works exactly the same for the "long_PTT" shortcut.
If you do exactly that, does it not work? What happens if you tap the "short_PTT" shortcut in File Explorer? Does it start the camera?
Here is a link to a cab that will allow you to remap the PTT button: http://www.fuzemobility.com/ptt-remapping-revisited-application/

Can you post instructions as to how? I tried it already and the pulldown that shows you the available apps you can pick only shows PTT.
Best regards,
JD
So I followed the registry edit method, and created a file (not a folder) called PTT and things work great .... except ... when its on Airplane mode (Phone, Bluetooth and Data set to off) and I press the button (short or long) the PTT function kick off.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Anyway to change this behaviour?

Something's odd with your phone, then. Mine shows the full list of apps and options. I remapped PTT to VC without an issue.
Is it possible that you've got an application that's taking over the Buttons Control Panel? On mine, I had to remember to shut off SPB Pocket Plus's control over the buttons since it doesn't work with the Touch Pro line. When I first fired up the control panel, it listed no apps until I remembered that I had Pocket Plus running and turned of that feature.

Home offscreen button during typing

Is anybody else having this issue? I am coming from Galaxy S4, where the home button is actual physical button, so there I didn't have any issues, but with OPO, when typing, many times when I try to hit spacebar, it hits the top of the Home button. Before it comes up, I do not want to use on screen buttons, I like the size of the screen and don't want it up with software buttons.
I was wondering if anyone has/could write a script to set the buttons to
(Menu)
Short press - Menu
Long Press - Recent Aps
(Home)
Short press - Nothing
Long Press - Home
(Back)
Short Press - back
Long Press - nothing
Or of there is an app that would give me a bit more control over the buttons... or something that can help with this. This is absolutely the only issue I have with the OPO otherwise I love the phone.

Because i currently am running CM12 i can't give exact insturctions but it should be somewhere in settings -> buttons -> ? over there you should be able to give the buttons other values. It is something like menu button: recent apps switcher and if you press that you can change it to a few other things. If this doesn't fill your needs, ask a bit more around I know it is there, because i saw it once.

Yes it is there, but the option for "Home Short Press" is not there, that is hard coded. At least on the ROM I run (LiquidSmooth)
What I need to know is this:
Which key mapping is for Short Press Home, Long Press Home and Long Press Menu. I am within /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl to adjust the mapping manually, but can't seem to find the correct mapping for those 3.
*EDIT*
Ok, so found the key for Home and that is 172, but that disables both the short and long press...

Yeah, sadly, someone suggested to come here
If you have root try it with the Xposed Module "Xposed Additions".

Unfortunately can't install Xposed as it tells me that my device does not support it. Is there one specifically built for us?
I get this error :
Xposed is not (yet) compatible with Android SDK Version 21 or your processor architecture (armeabi-7va).
CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE: could not load library "libdvm.so" needed by "/data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/cache/app_process"; caused by library "libdvm.so" not found.

Thank you for the link, unfortunately still doesn't work. Same error. I think it is because the ROM I am using is LP and LP uses ART instead of Dalvik and XPosed doesn't work with that. Thank you though for the effort

Yes, ART is the problem.
So I came up with a solution for this issue.
The file in question to be working with is /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
Navigate to this file using a File Browser (Root Explorer is the one I use) that has access to Root and make sure you have R/W rights.
Edit the file above in a text editor > find line : "key 139 MENU" and change it to "key 139 HOME" > and then find line : "key 172 HOME" and change it to "key 172 MENU" > Reboot device for it to take effect after you save
Then, within Settings > Buttons, you can adjust (at least on the ROM I am on), the long and short press of the Menu button.
What comes out is: left button is HOME button, with short/long press actions, middle button is MENU with just long action (set short action to NONE), and right button is BACK button untouched.
This way if I am typing, and want to hit space bar, accidentally hitting the middle button will not bring me to the main screen. It will take a while to get used to it, but it does resolve my issue.
