Hi all,
I've been searching countless forums for a solution to my problem, and I was not able to find a solution.
I purchased a T-Mobile SDA(USA, aka: HTC Tornado) with the belief that I will be able to connect to my hiome WIFI.
I tried connecting with original rom(T-mo SW 1.9.19.16) and I was able to connect to my access point, and I aquired an IP address, and everything, but internet explorer and Opera Mini browser was not able to connect to the internet. IExplorer keeps on "locating" then times out.
I am able to connect to a HotSpot location through wifi and also my G (GPRS) indicator is always on.
My guess is that TCP/IP use is somehow blocked for anything but T-mobiles HotSpots, and otherwise it tries GPRS(I do not have data plan.)
What I mean is that they restrict me to connect to GPRS or Edge in general, unless there is a HotSpot operated by T-Mobile.
Anyways if someone has an idea, please help me out, since I've spent countless of hours(not quite countless, but more than 48 hours for sure) on this, with no luck.
Please, anything, idea, reg hack, I accept anything.
Thank you.
PS: Now I'm running an iMate sp5m rom (i-mate_SP5m_WWE_1.6.331.6.exe) and nothing changed....
I'm sure this has come up before (try searching) but make sure your internet explorer isn't set to use WAP Network only.
Thanks for your reply...really appreciate it.
I was on a trip in NYC and I had a variety of WIFI spots, and to my very surprise I was able to get online through WIFI.
It seems that I still needed the iMate Rom, but my problem is my home wifi network.
It's weird since I enter my key and I get an IP, yet the connection is still not the correct one.
My next step is to look for a list of access points which have issues with SDAs, and if mine passes I'll start changing settings on my access point and go from there.
Thanks again, and if someone has a link to the list, I would appreciate it if it will post it.
And also if someone knows how to get rid of the GPRS indicator....
Thanks

If you're on WiFi, you should not be getting the G indicator; in fact, change it to E as it should be if on an Edge network (Cingular); look for a RegEdit to do that.
Re: your home connection not working. Are you sure you are on YOUR WiFi network, not a neighbors somewhere? If you have not changed your WiFi name to something that makes sense to you, I suggest you do that to be sure you are trying to connect to YOUR network. I have neighbors that have not changed their LinkSys names to something else, and there is no way for me to tell if I'm on theirs or mine unless my name is something unique to me and that I know.
I have an 8525 but my IT guy at the office has an 8125/wizard. Anyway, he does not have the data plan through cingy so he is wondering if he can use wifi instead. If so, how do I set that up for him? Thanks

Your IT guy doesn't know how to turn on wifi?!?!
That's pretty bad. Anyhow, you just open up the COMM manager and turn on wifi. When it finds an AP, or whatever, it'll bring it up and you tap on it and it take you through the brief and easy setup process. That should do it.
P.S. Time to get a new IT guy
Yeah, lol we got that far but like with my 8525 it lets me choose during the mail set up how I want to retrieve my mail i.e. work, internet, ISP, Media net etc... Just wondering if there is something like this for the wizard. Thanks by the way.
I dont think there is a way to set up your email that way. Only if he connects manually to wifi and then retrieve. The email will not connect automatically thru wifi unless you just stay connected i believe. And yeah i second that motion on getting a new IT guy.
Hi,
Well, its not just turning on WiFi, its disabling GPRS so he doesn't get hit with big data charges. You can try this tweak: http://www.pocketpctweaks.com/pocketpc_tweaks/Disable_GPRS
Hopefully this will work for him.
BTW, things are pretty much the same on the Hermes as on the Wizard, it just depends on the rom you're running.
Good luck,
I recently received my Touch Pro, and transferred everything from my other phone over. I also copied the GPRS/EDGE settings (T-Mobile USA) present on the other phone, in an attempt to get internet without the Wi-Fi over. Unfortunately, for some reason, no matter how I set it (I looked up 3 different ways to do it online) it returns an error.
I thought it might be a radio band issue, so I flashed Hard SPL and the Cingular radio stack. Even more unfortunately, after doing so, it was impossible to turn on the Data Connection at all. I backtracked and located the problem as the Hard SPL, since when I flashed the radio stack back to stock, the problem was still present, and when I flashed Stock SPL back, everything went back to working fine.
Since I'm new to the scene, I wasn't really sure what was going on, so I don't really understand what the problem is.
Anyone have anything to say about either of those problems (constructive advice)?
Thanks in advance.
How about the T-Mobile Wireless Configurizationalator?
http://tmobileuspublic.wdsglobal.com/
thanks,
i've tried that, using several different windows mobile devices listed under the HTC menu, but each different configuration that they offer yields the same results.
I don't know where you're based in, but I just had that problem too here in downtown Chicago. I tried it with my Hermes, and it didn't work either. I called T-Mobile and they said something about a "global disruption" to their data network. Not sure what exactly that meant but it works here in the Gold Coast, about 15 minutes north of downtown.
oh, i see.
well i guess i'll give them a call tomorrow, and see if i can get it to work with their help. thanks for the info, now i'm kind of relieved it's not something broken on my end. haha.

Depending on what data plan you have ($5.99 T-Zones or $19.99 Total Internet) you may need to change your server and/or proxy settings. By default, the HTC Connection Wizard sets the "T-mobile Data" connection to wap.voicestream.com, so you may need to change that.
Log in to your my.t-mobile.com and check your services to see which one you're using. Then do a search here on XDA for your service (T-Zones or Total Internet) and you'll find the settings you need.
thanks. i looked all that up and it turns out that i was supposed to soft reset it after i set things up, which i did not know about, so i didn't do. i also found a cab file for the t-zone settings, which might have helped too. for some reason weather doesn't update with the edge network though, and i don't know why. any clue?
thanks again.
Is there anything that needs to be done for the Fuze to work with Rogers?
Can I simply put the Rogers simcard in and all will work fine?
Does it need to be unlocked, or flashed with a different ROM?
Is it better to wait until Rogers gets something very similar?
Any ideas what would be best to do?
Thanks in advance for your input/advice.

you need to unlock the phone first of course. you can find the relevant information on this forum if you search for it. You don't necessarily have to flash it, but you prob don't want all the AT&T bloatware.
As far as I know, Telus is going to be the only carrier with Touch Pro, so you're better off buying a Fuze from the states and "smuggle" it across border (or you can always pay the tax at border )
Unlocking the Fuze
SlingPlayer Mobile is installed on the Fuze...
However, despite the 3G symbol being there, "Cannot Connect" shows up.
It leads to Settings for Connections.
Rogers Wireless 3G settings...Is there a tutorial?
Is there a step-by-step tutorial on setting up the Fuze with Rogers Wireless so that SlingPlayer Mobile works with 3G, instead of getting "Cannot Connect"?
Thanks
not exactly but its really simple, first off, what have you done to your phone thus far? are you using a stock rom or custom rom? etc
I am also going to assume you have entered your slingbox info into the application.
I am using fuse on rogers network with NATF rom with Dara Plan, and nothing realy needed after i poped the sim in, it found anything there is to be found, and Ta-Da! It's working flawlessly so far.
What I did so far....
First of all, I have a stock ROM unlocked Fuze...I have a warranty on it for 1 year, so I really don't wanna mess with the ROM just yet.
1. I went Start, Settings, Connections Tab, Connections Icon, My ISP and Add a new modem connection.
2. Name: Rogers Wireless
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Next
Access... : internet.com
Next
User... : wapuser1
Password: wap
Domain: left it blank
Finish
Now SlingPlayer Mobile and Weather works.
However, Internet browsing, E-mail, Messages...all don't work
I found info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311426
but those cabs do not work properly with the FUZE.
There's other settings posted there too...trying to figure it out. No success so far.
If there can be one made specifically for the FUZE and Rogers Wireless, it would be sweet.
Anyway, any kind of help is very much appreciated. If anyone knows what to do specifically,
please advise or point to where the information is.
Thanks

Nice you found lurch's cab. install it anyways so you have mms working. I thought auto configuration was installed on the fuze by default, but it was a while ago. for internet you need to disable the proxy that is on the fuze (set up for AT&T users)
First on the overall end with the disable proxy cab
and then you need to do it in opera, since you clearly have made a decent attempt at using the search function, i will just attach the cabs here, let me know if it works

depending on how you unlocked the phone, you may have already lost the warranty. if that's the case, flash away~
oh...and even after you flash it, you can always reflash it back to stock rom
Progress...
OK...first, about the warranty, the place I bought it from unlocked it and said 7 day replacement, 1 year servicing. I've never used the HardSPL, etc...I think I want to wait before I go that way until after the year is up.
Progress report:
Good news! Installing only "Lurch3559-Rogers.cab" (and not the VPN one) plus the two posted earlier in this thread did the trick. Everything works.
Next, learning how "Microsoft Direct Push" and "hotmail" work, and if they can work together. I got my hotmail addy working, but I have to go in and "Send and Receive" to get it to show new e-mails. I want it to do that automatically. Then, to get "Messenger" (IM) working. It just keeps saying "Signing in..."
I want to thank all who have been helpful thus far. It's a sweet phone to play with. Thanks
did you ever have any luck with getting Messenger to work, and hotmail to be pushed? I just got my Fuze today but it didn't come with a USB, so theres no way to get the cab file to my phone . I also now have to wait to flash the ROM, boo lol
I've done my searching throughout this forum and can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. I'm familiar to a minor degree in coding but not that adept to the Android yet. The phone has been rooted.I was wondering what file if any I can delete or move in the phone that will prevent the phone from accessing data through the network. My kid has the phone and seems to forget to shut the data off and I'm getting charged like crazy for the surfing she thinks is through Wi-Fi.
Thanks In Advance, apologies if this has been answered already!
You suggest looking into Onavo or 3G Watchdog.

Thank-you for your reply. What I'm looking for is a way to disable the ability of the phone to cennect to the internet through the network. My kid uses the phone and is running up my data bill. I can easily tell where it's at through the providers web site. I just want it shut off completely so I it just can't connect anymore.
TIA
So you basically want it permanently disabled? You might be able to do that my changing the APN settings, but the easiest way would probably be to call the carrier and tell them to disable all mobile data on the account.

Actually, that was the first thing I tried, their suggestion as expected was to buy a data add-on. Wasn't very helpful. I'll take a look at the APN settings as you suggest and go from there.
Thank-you for your help!!
