I am quite frustrated with the keyboard on this phone and it makes texting difficult for me... I am coming from an iphone so maybe that may be the case since I may be used to their keyboard....but all I want is a keyboard like the current htc hd2 keyboard just without the arrows on it ....I find myself pressing the arrows alot on accident or pressing the wrong keys and I believe it is because the keypad is moved in a weird way to accommodate the space of the arrow keys...
I have tried the resco keypad and it is a bit small, but the main thing is that it does not work properly in landscape (it displays a portrait kepad in landscape) and the same is with the "FingerKeyB" (which has some decent theme options btw which I like)... and then there is the EzInput keypad which looked perfect for me but when I installed it, and then rebooted and tried to open sms, the portion of the screen where the sms would be is completely black and when I turn it to landscape the whole phone except the bottom bar turns black...
any help will be very appreciate, Please help me out.. this keyboard is getting the best of me...
have you tried swype? I believe its the best keyboard. i have attached the installation cab. you may also want to look at lesscro's theme for swype keyboard, Im using it its really nice, check out this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653256
Thanks, I have tried swipe and did not really like it....
I wish the EzInput keypad would work because that seems like the most ideal for my request....
any other suggestions? ...maybe I will have to ask the creator of EzInput to fix it up for the HD2, or maybe I will have to take it on myself ?....
any ideas?
There are versions of ez input without arrows. I am not home before saturday night but if I forget give me a pm and I can send the link....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536215
try here..
that is the thread I got eZinput from, but I am having problems with it on my HD2....it seems as though it is already without arrows, from the screen shots (and that is why I liked it, because looking at the screen shots I can imagine using it would be a lot more suiting to me than the standard keyboard)....

No, not the one on dutty's site!
I am looking for the one he uses in his roms, he doesn't have a cab of it.
You can tell it's the newer one because the word suggsetion/letter choose bar is thinner and its black, compared to the cab version he has which is a thicker light grey bar. It's version and build is version 1 build 29567.
I don't think the cab collection thread has the most up to date either, that zip file i a whole bunch of mess up.
Thanks
Looking for this too. All the touch keyboard/keypad cabs mess up my typing while using the full keyboard (might be a fix for this, I haven't really looked), but the version dutty uses in his roms works flawlessly.
Ha, weird.
For me it's opposite. The keyboard in his roms is the newest build, but it conflicts with the hardware keyboard and you can't use function keys unless you are using a Tilt and use the fix which seems to work for Tilt users but not for TyTN II users.
I install his cab version (older build) from his FTP and then I can atleast use the hardware keyboard + function keys AND the touch keyboard when I please, but I want the black word suggestion/letter suggestion bar that is in the latest build and not the old grey thicker bar in his older build.
Must find cab.
That is weird... I think my problem is a little bit different though.
I've got the Att Tilt and the Touch soft keypad works beautifully (any version) but when I switch to the hardward keyboard, I still get spelling/word suggestions from the soft keyboard... which highlights select letters while I'm typing, essentially forcing me to type over them. The end result is just garbled.
The only dutty ROM I've tried so far is v4, and it's worked great, hard and soft keyboard.
I tried the fix too, but it didn't make a difference. I think it has more to do with the keys being mapped incorrectly?

yes we do have slightly different problems. I don't really know how to solve any of it 100%.
All i know, is for me on tytn II, if i have a dutty rom with the touch keypad in it, I can't use the function keys correctly. So that was my biggest problem. Installing his older ftp cab keyboard "overtop" of his built in rom one solved that particular problem. I don't get the word/letter suggestion from xt9.
For tilt users so far i've heard was to install the disablext9 cab fix soft reset then uninstall it, that doesnt work for me, and not for you i guess either.. so ih ave no idea really.
I wonder if it has anythign to do with the xt9 settings and the normal keyboard settings.. i wonder if somethign is conflicting or something.. no i dea.. lol
Hey fellow XDA-ers.
I hope that in this thread we can unite in finding a solution for the annoying t9 input mehod, without breaking the hardware keyboard.
What's the problem:
I want to get rid of the annoying black t9 input and autocomplete bar, and use the standard WM6.1 version.
What anoys me the most is when you type an address for sending text, you start by typing first name of for instance friends who share a first name, but have different last names, , as soon as you hit space for the lastname, the person with the first name that's on top of the list gets selected..ARG
I also hate the lag it introduces.
So getting rid of the black ezinput part of the keyboard.
This can be done by replacing the eT9 values in your registry at the layout to COMP (et9IME replace by compIME and so on) and this works for soft keyboard.
However, this "fix" breaks some stuff in your hardware keyboard (the SYM key for instance stops working, also you cannot get the euro sign or the pund sign by pressing fn E or fn W)
I of course want the best of both worlds, and especially miss the sym button for getting a "\" whilst typing in shortcuts
So, I have tried so much, but haven't found a solution yet.
Does anybody know how to get this "best of both worlds" option?
Does opening up the on-screen keyboard and hitting the T9 --> ABC switch help?
nope
It doesn't use autocomplete then when typing text, but you still get the black bar at the bottom whilst entering an address, and the space-issue (filling in word after space) is introduced.
I just want the behaviour as when eT9 replaced by comp (ei. you get a couple of suggestion in your screen in light grey boxes, in stead of on bottom bar in black) but with FULL use of my hardware keyboard.
I want to do this without installing all kinds of secondary software that slows my device down, but want to solve it at the root.
Hope I am explaining the problem clearly
But thanks for the reply..
Maybe we can figure it out..
known problem
I've done the t9 compIME registry change and to me, is a must. That black bar was SO annoying and decreased effectiveness.
I have noticed the hardware keyboard does get screwy after doing this.
Using Da_G's roms, he has solved most of the problems in some of his earlier roms. I think the only problem I have currently is a non-working "cent" sign (FN+_). I'll test this again after I flash to his latest Rom.
I think he solves this by implementing SOME of the t9 files. I'll follow up with more accurate results.

If that's the case, making a cab, or posting the necesary files to replace would be ideal.
Does your SYM key work?
sounds like a very good start
I had this same annoying error
I managed to get it to go away by
sliding out the keyboard
whilst pressing the green FN button hit the spacebar.
This brings up a small menu, select
ABC and bingo, its sorted.

Tnx for your input Steve.
I allready have that set up, but as you will find, it does not get rid of the black bar during txt msgs to field input, if you know what I mean.
It also gives lag on the hardware keyboard input comapred to the comp ide input method, which I find anoying.
What I really want is just the old wm input and auto complete feature without breaking my keyboard.
but as said before, thanks for the input.
This way we can narrow it down and hopefully make the problem easier to understand.
Ta...
tried editing sym files
Tried editing and replacing the txt files in windows directory,
eT9.Raphael.0409.kmap.txt and eT9DeadKeys.txt and renamint the et9 to comp, no luck.
Anybody any suggestions?

I did that and the black bar is gone! No more annoying auto-capitalizing and duplicated words! Thanks a lot!
Not quite

It get's rid of the black bar whilst typing a text, however whilst typing an adress in the to field, you will notice that you still get a black bar and proposed name in the bottom of your screen.
This is actually eT9 still running, and slowing down your input, trust me on this
The "old" way, you'd get the proposed names next to your to field, in a light grey box, and you could scroll through them and use the space bar without getting it to autocomplete.
I normally type the first few letters of the persons name, and then use the left and right arrow keys to gp through the matching contacts. That does the trick for me
indeed

It does the trick and it is how I use it now.
It's just not the solution I am looking for.
I'm a bit wierd in that way, if I see it poping up, I know it's there and it just annoys me...
Don't you just love the way things were before
But thanks for the tip.
No luck here yet
I haven't had any luck yet, anybody else?
This issue is really starting to bug me
Any luck yet with removing the T9 Black bar? I am having this problem as well.
Me too!
i want the old way with the little grey box, it was so much better. It gave a number of people when you typed in a user name for sms and it also gave better autocomplete options.
Solve for all us
Try attached CAB guys from our famous Russian PDA professional. It's remove this bar completely.
yes it worked for me on Touch HD perfectly
Works

TY it completely rocks on Touch HD.
Does this just disable T9 on the hardware keyboard? AND, when entering a contact into sms or email you get the grey list like before?
What about T9 for soft keypad/boards? How does it function now?
I stumbled upon your thread while searching for "disable t9 hardware keyboard".
I have the same problem on my Kaiser... Installed ezinput keypad/board and now have that 'damn' black bar. I'm getting used to it like 'GaZ' but dont really like it...
<<<UPDATE: Only selected abc over t9. Black bar still there.>>>>
use different sip
im not sure if this help but wasnt this issue introduced with the diamond sip set? maybe using different sips might get rid of it. or maybe replacing the new eT9 and using the old wm6 t9 instead in wm6.1 roms. just a thought
I used to touch type on old candy bar and slide phones without having to look at the screen, by feeling the dialpad keys I knew what button I was on and using the T9 dictionary it was easy, I really miss this in new phones now.
I wanted to buy a dialpad phone with Android as a 2nd phone but there are none being made so I think they are going the way of the dodo.
There is no feesable way to touch type on new phones, qwerty keyboards have too many keys, haptic feedback is in its infancy, so I propose a full screen T9 keyboard for touch typing.
The whole display would be filled with 9 or 10 buttons representing 0-9 like a standard dialpad.
This wouldn't be the main input method, I think it would be good for it to activate by pressing the volume down button twice while in a text field and deactivate by doing the same thing. Hopefully it should be possible to touch type without haptic feedback when the whole screen is filled with only 9 buttons.
Let me know what you guys think.
why the full screen??? my htc hero has softkb with t9, fills half the screen. I never use qwerty. Works like a charm. you can get the htc_ime.apk and use that.
I havent heard of anyone being able to touch type on a touchscreen phone yet, ie writing an sms while driving without looking at their phone.
If it is literally filling the whole screen it may be possible on a 3.7" screen the buttons will be big, you are either pressing one of the corners, middle or sides.
If it is filling only half the screen it becomes a lot more difficult if not impossible.
I have issues with the use of the OEM on-screen keyboard of the HTC HD2. It registers the keys next to the ones I press if my finger even begins to slide a little when pressing the desired key.
I would like something much more stable than what it's equipped with. Does anybody know of a better keyboard for the HTC HD2?

Excellent! Thank you. That worked out just fine. It is better than the OEM KB. It also looks better. Is there a touchscreen sensitivity setting somewhere for the HD2, do you know?
EDIT -
Unfortunately the Fingerkeyb has a bug in landscape mode. Pressing the spacebar often brings up the menu because it is so close to the bottom of the screen.
EDIT 2-
Eh...I spoke too soon. The landscape mode doesn't work properly. I thought it was limited to the same size as the portrait mode because that's what shows up when pulling up the keyboard while in landscape mode. But after tapping the small arrow beside the KB selector, and then choosing Fingerkeyb, the landscape mode comes up. Which isn't all that appealing because it separates the keyboard at the middle, putting the directional arrows in the middle, rather than providing larger keys like the OEM keyboard does.
Hopefully the creator of this keyboard will will see these issues and deal with them. I guess I'll just stick to the OEM board for now...much less complex to pull up.
Me thinks this is wrong forum...
And I suggest Swype. It should be on the forums here somewhere.
Well...All is well. I had the 2.0 version installed and found the 2.1 version from a post speaking about it. Googling fingerkeyb brings up a link to the thread in xda with the 2.0 version. After specifically Googling fingerkeyb 2.1, I was able to get it.
2.1 resolves the issues I had and is much nicer too.
I just can't get over how things go wrong when I speak of something working well.
The letter "b/B" is dead in the fingerkeyb. Tapping it does nothing. It doesn't register.
I suppose it's just in the default skin, red/black. I loaded another skin, gray/black, and it now works. Also, the "b/B" works in the default skin if the option to "Show bar" for landscape mode is selected. The "b/B" works fine either way in the default skin in portrait mode.
as already mentioned, google for Swype mate, trust me you'll never use another keybord again
One of the cooked ROMS has a cab for swype within it. Not sure on the legalities of it as it was only released for the Tmobile HD2, but if someone confirms its ok I'll tell you which ROM to save you digging about.
Actually if you are happy with the keyboard and its just the sensitivity issue then take a look at this post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604831
I had majoy issues with the keyboard and pressing of buttons etc but this CAB worked a treat!
Moved as not software release.
This is driving me crazy, I cant figure out have to make the keyboard not take up the full screen. Anyoneknow?
what do you mean?? the whole screen is covered by the swype keboard when you put the phone in landscape or most of the screen is covered?
The keyboard takes up half the screen and the imput box takes up the other half. I want it like WinMo. Where it lets you type but the imput box doesn't zoom in
Well as far as I know the swype keyboard automatically takes up the whole screen while in landscape. Well mine does and it can be seen in youtube videos as well. I don't think there is a fix for this unless you want to contact the devs for swype.
Resurrecting an old thread, but I thought I'd mention that the rom Slimbean (3.0.0) (http://www.slimroms.net) has a toggle to disable full screen landscape keyboard. This fixes this issue for all keyboards, including SwiftKey & Swype.
