Disappearing Favorite Contacts on Sprint WM 6.5 - Touch Pro2 CDMA

Since updating my Sprint HTC TP2 to WM 6.5 I've been randomly loosing one or more favorite entries off my contact list. I'll turn my phone off (not completely powered down), stick it in my pocket, pull it out later, turn on, hit contacts and see one or more empty boxes that once housed my Favorites. :-(
They are still in All People but it's a pain to always have to be adding them back.
Has anyone else seen this problem?

Yes, I am on a Verizon HTC TP2 and have the same issue ...............I think it is a SENSE issue.......

I think it's a google sync issue

I think this is a sync issue as well. I've noticed that once a contact is added as a favorite, it adds some code in the "note" section (which is not exactly the most elegant way to do this) that it seems to need in order to function properly. I am not happy about seeing this on the contacts on my computer, but if you mess with it at all, poof, it will be gone from the favorites page...

I see the HTC info on Favorites and Facebook in the notes section both on google contacts and my phone. I don't see why they seem to randomly disappear.

Since I never had the problem before going with WM 6.5 I don't see how it could be a Google Sync issue. I think it's probably a SENSE issue.
I'm currently looking at my Favorite contacts and 4 of the 9 are gone! I'm having to add back 2 to 3 a day. It's starting to get real annoying!
Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should run this down? I've talked to to the local Sprint Store........ I know, I know, but I am getting desperate.
Thanks.

I am in the same boat and it is literally driving me to the point that I want to just go back to 6.1... Any ideas?

I have no ideas. I can believe we are the only ones have issues.

I think it is a sync issue that is prevalent with the new ROMs version of Sense. I stopped using Google Sync and switched over to hosted Exchange, and the problem went away. I have friend that sees a very similar issue on her Android phone, so it isn't only occurring on WinMo.

"hosted Exchange", is this an alternative to Google Sync to sync my google stuff to my phone?

It happens to me often. It is usually the one in the top left position. In this case, my wife. It would be the one I call the most.. I don't use anything special except my very favorite NRG Rom w/ GTX. Maybe someone here can figure it out.

ActiveSync Problem

I am having a problem with ActiveSync on my phone an Orange M700 running the HTC P3600 ROM. It was working with no problems until a few weeks ago when it stopped syncing. I have tested the laptop with another PPC and ActiveSync notices it straight away.
I have installed ActiveSync 4.5 to no avail so I returned to 4.2 and still nothing. I deleted all partnerships in both the phone and the laptop and when I plugged it back in the Windows saw the device as there was a pop up bubble in the bottom right corner but ActiveSync never kicked in.
I have had a look at the ActiveSync settings in the M700 but everything looks fine to me.
I have also been having problems with my 3G connection not connecting and doing the regular syncs it normally does e.g. my personal mail every 5 mins, my yahoo mail every hour and the weather every 2 hours. The only thing that has changed in this time is that I installed Fring, I can't imagine its related but I uninstalled Fring just in case but still no luck.
Anyone got any ideas how to fix it as I have some new appointments (I'm not sure which ones) in my PDA which I want to get synced before messing around with hard resets etc.
Thanks
Did you delete any notifications of any kind, usually replog files? If YES, then you just deleted your notification to activate Active Sync on your computer. You can solve that easily by returning the file. READ this for the solution: http://www.cs.pitt.edu/~jmisurda/ppc/blog/index.php?entry=entry051203-201515

I don't think I did that but I tried the file anyway, still no joy. I think my phone is also vibrating when I plug it into the PC now, very strange.

Have you ever used Check Notifications? It is a free software to clear away JUNK notifications.
Link: http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/cn_overview.html
Sometimes, our PPC just creates duplicates of certain Notifications that can cause conflicts with some softwares. Maybe this is what is happening in your device. You can try and download Check Notifications, even though it says it is only compatible with WM 2003, I use it for my HTC Universal (WM5). Just go to Check Notifications settings and tick the 3 choices, run it and CLEAR those pesky bugs.

Right I ticked the three boxes and cleared the issues but still nothing
Normally I'd just hard reset but I am worried about losing appointments I've forgotten I have made since my last sync.

I don't know what else to suggest.
If you do decide to HARD RESET, take a look at this FREE BABKUP program for contacts and calendar events: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705&highlight=backup
I hate doing hard resets myself, that is why I have SPB Backup configured to do automatic backups everyday at 5AM.
Good Luck...

Thanks for your help.
I'm not sure how I am going to progress this. My major issue is that we use GroupWise at work with a third party app to allow the PocketPCs to sync with it. When you set it up it blanks the device before you can do anything, if I wait and import everything after this it usually can't cope with the levels of changes and kills the system on the server.
Oh joy, why wasn't someone looking at the "bigger picture" when we choose an e-mail system.....

Using Blackberry Connect on Fuze could be ...

I think there is a need for deeper discussion on Blackberry connect on Fuze. I have used BB for corporate emails for past 2 years and have thoroughly enjoyed the ease and reliability of BB for this purpose. When my contract was up for renewal, I decided to go with Fuze since it supports BB and has a much cooler look. And then the problems started.
Facts-
I am using the "unbloated" version of Fuze
I have attempted all performance and battery life updates available on xda
I have used this phone for over a month
I have BB Connect installed via sems.org and have BES plan for it
Problems-
Battery life - I am ready to return this phone for this sole reason. I am out of battery by mid-day (no exageration). I think BB connect has something to do with it since I have not seen as much frustration on the battery life as I would imagine with half a day of battery life.
Phone locking - sometimes the phone just locks up. I cannot do anything. I believe BB Connect has something to do with it since it is constantly syncing emails
BB functionality - there are certain functions that were easily doable in BB are not so easy or not feasible in Fuze. e.g. 'Reply to all' is 2 steps instead of one, search functionality is virtually non existant, email lookup on corporate directory is 2 to 3 steps.
I use my phone via my left hand (especially when I am driving, I know I am not supposed to do that but lets be real, we all do it). This makes it extremely difficult to hit the 'x' button on the top right hand corner and invariably causes 2 to 3 misses before getting it right.
Power button not functioning on occasssions. I have had instances where I cannot turn my screen off at all (needed to save battery life). I have to restart in those instances which is annoying if you want to make a quick phone call. This has happened to some other folks in my company as well.
I think would be beneficial to hear others experience and concerns and hence a new thread for BB Connect users for Fuze.
I had a similar battery issue until I flashed to the ROMeOS rom and flashed the .28 radio rom. Now I get 2 days use with push email (using exchange admittedly) enabled. This really does make a difference.
As for the close button, using something like AEButton you can set the back button to close and the home button to jump back to the today screen etc. This really does make the phone 1 hand friendly.
I have not used Blackberry connect before and so sadly cant help with the reply to all etc
I would seriously recommend flashing to one of the cooked ROMs of which in my experience the ROMeOS is a seriously stable, no nonsense and fast ROM. Make sure you do the radio as well and I think you will find yourself a happy punter!
Yours aye,
Angus
Few more issues
thx for the suggestion. i was trying to stay away from flashing my phone but if there is no other alternative, i might have to do that.
Couple of other BB related issues that i forgot earlier and would like suggestions on are-
I cannot install BB messenger on it. It gives an error on all browsers I tried i.e. Opera, Skyfire, IE, BB Browser
Earlier (in physical BB) if I filed my emails in folders or deleted them from BB, it did that on the server and thereby on the client/ laptop. But with Fuze, it does not do that or I have not configured it correctly.
any help is appreciated.
thanks
There is no blackberry messenger in blackberry connect.
Check your settings in the CMIME service, Synchronication tab when you click the Blackberry icon.
I am running BB Connect on the Fuze and do not seem to have your battery issues. It does not seem to drain any faster than it did before I installed BB Connect. I have run into both the phone locking issue and the power button issues you note. I have no solution, but can just confirm that I have had similar issues.
I have also found these three issues with BB Connect on the Fuze (I checked with my company's tech folks on 1 and 2, who say these can't be fixed, but I am not so sure):
1. I cannot open attachments that come through BB Connect in anything other than the BB Viewer. So I don't get the benefit of Word Mobile, etc... I also cannot save the attachment to the phone and then open in the right application. If I need to get to the attachment, I have to forward the e-mail to my Gmail account, and then I can open it in the right application, but that is a hassle.
2. I can't view html e-mails. Again, if I want to see them in html format I have to forward them to my Gmail account and view them there.
3. Sometimes the Blackberry e-mails just stop coming, even though the Gmail account is still working fine. If I soft reset, they start coming again. No explanation.
I wonder if others have these same issues, or if anyone has resolved them. By the way, I am still happy that I have the Fuze instead of a Blackberry.
I too am unable to download attachments.
I am able to see that the email has an attachment in the "inbox" window. When I open the email, there is no attachment to download or view.
attachments
I just posted on another thread, but it appears that this is a more appropriate thread (didn't search long enough...) Anyway, I just noticed this week about the email attachment problem. I was on travel and a buddy sent me some files that i wanted to save to by device (Fuze) but was unable. I also have a problem attaching files from my phone. any ideas or work arounds?

Help - My Backlight won't respond - Verizon Touch Pro2, Windows Mobile 6.5 official

I have the Verizon Touch Pro2 and recently upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5 using the official release.
I saw someone else have this problem (he posted a video of the issue) but I cannot find if he found a solution.
Normally, if you press the top button, the blacklight turns the device's backlight on or off. If off and you press the Power button, the device tells you "Backlight is off. Press button to turn on." and points to the top button with a little green arrow.
Well, something is wrong with mine. When the backlight is off, pressing the top button does nothing. The problem is intermittent and very frustrating.
Now the device is not locked/crashed because the power button will bring up the message. Also, if I call my phone, it comes up. If I txt my phone, it comes up. If I plug my phone into my computer via USB, it comes up. But pressing the top button doesnt make it come up.
I've flashed the phone 3 times to try to get rid of the problem. Originally the phone had the 6.1 stock Verizon ROM. I have not ever try to load a custom ROM on this phone. I have no special software installed on the phone. I am not using the Sense interface, I'm using the Windows Default.
Please help! & Thanks to all you gurus!
I've only noticed this problem when my device gets too hot, so try to keep it out of the sun/heat. I've been on Mighty Mike rom for the past week and have had no issues.
i dont think its the heat..

i have not noticed any heat issues. the problem has occurred both when the device was plugged in and not plugged in. in rooms with temperatures from 68° to 76° F and never in direct sunlight..
i think the problem has something to do with email.
i have it setup to check my yahoomail via imap. its downloading messages from years ago, even though its been setup to do only the past 30 days, how is this possible?
ive seen it say 2000+ new emails on the today screen, and dating back to 2003 the last time i was able to turn the backlight on via USB, the yahoomail account was in a perpetual disconnecting... sometimes erroring at being unable to synchronize at all..
also the error reporting service has told me that "tmail.exe" keeps crashing.. im assuming its crashing cause its getting overloaded with too many emails.. can any provide some input?
ive deleted the yahoomail account for now and will see if it happens again..
update
almost 24 hours later, no locking up. device is running smooth.
i fear that the issue is related to the email problem.
it downloading 2000+ emails must have been it.. im assuming
has anyone else had the backlight issue? and have you found it may be related to email?
im going to wait 2 more days and re-add the yahoomail account and see what happens.
That is very interesting. Have you tried using seven for your mail?

no ive never heard of it.. it looks like id have to join a beta to get it for my phone..
and although i enjoy the idea of using something that works i dont like just giving up on the whatever is wrong with the software.
and...
almost 48 hours later the phone has not at all locked up.. i fear the issue is directly related to whatever it was doing with my yahoomail account.
the settings were: imap yahoomail, html, 2kb, 30days, no attachments.. i think thats all thats relevant.. and it was downloading well over 2000 messages from as far back as 2003
im going to add the mail account back tonight to see what happens..

Since you mentioned it I was mulling it over...I really think you are onto something with that mail message, because the two times I did that I had a message waiting.
Seven should be free, I've posted the cab below.
Same thing with mine...
I've had the same thing happening with my TouchPro 2. I found a quasi-work around that helps limit the number of freezes, but it sure increases the number of pocket-dials I make. In the advanced section of the power settings deselect the "turn off backlight if device is not used for" box. Then decrease the "turn off device if not used for" box to 1 minute. I'm still getting really good battery life (lasts all day) and it's not a new battery.
I sure hope there's some sort of update or fix for this issue soon, because this is only a work-around.
Backlight issue on Verizon
I was having the same problem. I do not know if you have mobile email installed. I did. I removed it and so far so good. You will have to hold the back light button for about three seconds sometimes but it always works. No more soft resets. The only issue is that you have to contact Verizon and have them stop the text notifications from OZ Mail. The way Mobile E mail works is the third party software company sends a text which you never see because mobile email software gets it and uses it to give you the notification that you have new mail. Tech support had to create a trouble ticket in order to stop these text messages. Every time I got a email I would get a text from OZ mail with about 20 something alphanumeric numbers. SO far so good!
I had this problem with mine and it appeared to have something to do with my 3.5 audio jack... it was like it thought there was somthing plugged in there but there wasn't. as soon as i plugged in my headphones the screen came right on...
update - and semi-isolation
so after days of not having my yahoomail account configured, and my phone not locking up once, i added it back with the following settings:
imap, 7days, 2kb, no attachments. (the original issue occurred with similar settings, only 30day past messages and not 7)
it worked for a few days, then when i was leaving work today i took my phone out of my locker and noticed the backlight was on. an alarm had gone off.
then i looked at yahoomail and it said i had 2000+ new messages.. the first message dated from august 2008
i turned the backlight off. when i tried to turn it back on it worked. but later in the evening it did not. it hung like it was doing when i started this thread. and it was in the process of "downloading headers" for hours. upon clicking "send/receive" to make it disconnect, it sat on disconnect for a long time, without doing anything.
something is clearly wrong with yahoomail or perhaps simply the imap service
who should be contacted? someone at verizon?

i noticed my screen coming back on this evening when i got out of my car. i have bluetooth set up from my car deck to my phone for audio streaming and hands free.. it automatically connects when i turn the car on and disconnects when i turn the car off. upon disconnect the phone usually displays an error saying that the hands-free device has been disconnected.
it looks like the phone will respond when any kind of event happens (ie plug/unplug of headphones, phone call, txt message, alarm, etc..) so whatever the hell is wrong the phone is not actually crashed, just the backlight wont respond to the top button..
What your describing bis not new... nor is it limited the the TP2 or HTC phones. Commonly referred to as "failure to wake" or "sleep of death" (do ba search). Potentially effects all WinMo devices.
Frequently attributed to programs running in the background as the phone goes into sleep mode. By Programs, this could mean an active applicationyou initiated, a system program running invisibly in the background or an event that creats a notification while the phone was asleep.
Workaround is similar to what you've already tried: Extend the amount of time it takes for the device to go to sleep (+ve found 3 minutes sufficient, allowing for more time to multitask with multiple programs running).
Try not to put the phone to sleep with known programs running under the task manager.
Use Lumos to conserve battery life, since youre possibly keeping the device on for longer periods.
Keep availible RAM using a RAM cleaner and clean up duplicate notifications. I use MemMade for both.
This is a software issue and the circumstances are descibed in Microsoft's documentation for software developers. They test for programs that contribute,or create this problem before they go into the marketplace.
Sorry for the typos. In class banging out a hasty responce.
I've been having the same issue too, intermitantly maybe twice a month. I can't find any pattern.
I use Google Latitude, Batti, and I sync email every 30 minutes (Exchange to my univeristy, and IMAP to AOL) but I also have my computer set to download messages and erase messages after 2 days so I never have more than about 100 messages to sync.
WM 6.5 Verizon ROM (it came preloaded out of the box)
Sometimes, it locks up immediately after bootup (as a moment ago) sometimes it will run great for weeks before having problems. I can't find a pattern.

After Sprint WM 6.5 upgrade adding Facebook as "favorite contact" causes lockups
Upgraded my Sprint Touch Pro 2 to Windows Mobile 6.5 from 6.1 last week. Now when I add a linked Facebook contact to my "favorite contacts" tab the TouchFlo interface locks up. Only way to fix is to remove the contacts or not link them to Facebook.
Took me 2 times of applying the 6.5 firmware update before I was able to nail it down to linked Facebook contacts on the favorite contact tab. Now that I've figured this out I'm not using the favorite contacts feature any longer and my lockups have disappeared!
Anyone else have this problem? If so were you able to find a fix?
Tried calling Sprint on the issue but apparently the tech support guys are new to this phone also. They were going to call me back but never did. Guess I'll have to try again another day but in the meantime thought I'd hit up the XDA forum.

I am using the same Manila, but cooked ROM, and it seems to work just fine.

Well, I was sure I found an error. Still continues. If I add a contact NOT linked to Facebook no problem. If I add the contact AFTER linking to Facebook it starts to lock up.
I think I'll call Sprint back again. Confused...
When you first add contacts from FB, it does lock up for a min or two depending on how many contacts you have. But once it syncs all, it should be just fine.
If nothing works, try a Hard Reset, and start over again.

I added a new FB contact today and it locked up. I gave it about 15 minutes and then gave up since it was unusable. Did a soft reset and removed the FB contact. Now all is well.
I applied the firmware update twice. The first time I loaded everything and it was locking up. I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I then reloaded the firmware again and took things step-by-step until I figured out what was causing the problem.
So, with that said, I don't think a hard reset will work considering it was locking up right after the firmware upgrade.
sorry to semi-hijack this thread
does anyone know how to update the facebook integration password - i changed my password and now I can't upload photos through the HTC Sence and my contact's albums/status updates will not refresh

[Q] My Contact List Reset?!

Woke up today, went to my call history and noticed that it didn't list any names. Instead it had everyones phone number. When I clicked a number to dial, it showed their name. So I reset the phone, numbers still showed. I cleared the list, and dialed a new person. Everything back to normal.
Then, when trying to call someone later on today, I noticed something else. All the links that I had made (Live + Facebook contact) were unlinked.
Anyone have a clue why this happened, or has anyone else experienced it? I hate having to relink everyone again.
Glad to know I'm not the only one that had this happen
Went thru the same process of rebooting & pulled the battery
The call history just mysteriously lost all association to the names?
New calls are showing up ok
I'm guessing that some AT&T system reset is the culprit

+1 on this bit.
I've noticed that very occasionally those contacts whose name doesn't exactly match their Facebook accounts become unlinked and I have to re-link them. I have no idea why that happens and have never been able to attribute a cause.
Although not the same, I am having a problem with my contact pics on the People tile on the homescreen. It looks as though all the pics I added myself are showing up as blue squares , Facebook pics are showing up ok. When I go into my contact list all pics show up correctly.
This happened to me too once, I figured it was just a bug... That and the call history being delayed at times... Calls won't show up for a few minutes randomly... Had only happened about two or three times.
I had the same problem last night, too.
I guess that it is the problem came from Hotmail server. It was corrupt when syncing and then all my contacts were reset and sync again. It made Live contacts and linked-facebook contacts unlink...
Cmon MS, hotmail must be stable like rock or user will have this problem again
HAd same Problem
Just about a hour ago all my contacts unlinked and i als lost all my home screen contacts they just vannished from my home screen.
Did not encounter this issue but I do agree MS should improve the live mail service...
At least make contact editing as good as gmail...
i also encountered this waking up this morning.
Are any of you guys using Micro-SD cards? That could possibly be the cause of the problem
i am on a trophy, so yes, it's built into the phone with a micro SD. given the amount of people who all experienced this at about the same time, i would say it would be something to do with the server.

I have the phone over a month and not having this problem so far until yesterday... So I dont think it is the SD Card problem...
/I have a HD7
About 2 minutes after my first post I noticed that this exact problem had happened to me (my gf had called, and in the call history it simply listed her number and not her name). I remembered that last night while configuring my email settings, under my windows live account it said "not synced" or something like that. Naturally, I did a long press and hit "sync." When it synced, it must have for some reason set everything back to default. This was probably the cause of my problem; I agree it must be some sort of Hotmail/Windows Live sync issue.
Happened to me too, 4x already. My Samsung Focus Windows Live contact becomes unlinked with my previously linked facebook contacts everytime i will sync in hotmail tile. I am annoyed as I have to linked my facebook contact with windows live contacts everytime. Do you have any idea why is this so?
Could someone send this feedback to MS?... Cause my English is not good enough...
I'm on the Omnia 7, bought it especially not to have microSD problems. And seeing how it all happened in this past day, it's gotta be a Windows Live problem. Unless we all installed the same person
It's kinda freaky, Microsoft being in total control, they could just brick all our phones overnight while we sleep.
Throw my hat in the ring too...all contacts in calls list appear as phone number and all contacts/facebook links unlinked. Not too big of a deal but kinda weird.
Happened to me too over the weekend. HD7 with original SD card. Lost my contact tiles from my start screen, lost all links between contacts and facebook friends where the names weren't the same.
If this happens again I'm going to change all my contact names to match the facebook names so they match themselves up, because doing it manually is a pain.

I had exactly the same problem for the first time yesterday. Weird.
Add me to the list. Also emails I deleted on my Hotmail inbox are still showing up on the phone.
