I already got that working on my phone at the moment. Im running DarchLegend 4.2.2 and its not fully optimized. Video playback is not as crisp as it should be but I don't know how much better I can get it to run. Let me see if I can upload a youtube video of it in action.

yes please^^
i would so love a stable divx codec on my phone>.<

does youtube with hd work on the 2.1 builds? if so could we take the app and install it on a 1.5 rom with good results? i know youtube is broke atm until the 2.1 update that's why im asking. i just saw a complaint thread about youtube on android central.
it does work with 2.1 however my experience with all the 2.1 roms floatin around is the hd side of it only works with wifi. as far as usin it on 1.5 no go

so why wouldn't it work on 1.5? different kernel and such? i hate the fact a google app is broke you know!
can anybody upload the 2.1 youtube app and ill try it out? if it doesn't work it will be no different for me as right now it's a no go.
never mind i tried the 2.1 app and it doesn't work, i get a force close...such a shame.
it does work in 2.1.. with HD too...
sometimes (less than 10%) I cant play a vid.. but just select it again.. and it is fine...
I watched a vid in hd on 3g no problem... took a bit longer to load obviously but still worked like a charm... it's nice to have youtube back after losing it in 1.5

I sure hope so. The Hero doesn't have enough pixels to display HD. Any attempt at HD is just pure wasted bandwidth. The Hero barely has enough pixels to even display Youtube's 480p "High Quality".
FYI
The Youtube app does work great on DamageControl v1. Although by default it gets the low quality video. You have to go to the Menu and select Play High quality.
Obviosly its going to take longer to load the HQ video. And it does work over 3G.

the youtube app on 1.5 needs to be fixed...why can't a dev fix it on a custom rom? whats the issue anyways? seems stupid to have to wait until 2.1 for a fix.
@fixxer
well the devs can't really do much if they dont have the source code for the youtube app...
if memory serves me right, the youtube app isnt working because of a timeout issue, which is why it works everynow and then...you cant really change those type of settings easily without access to the source. its a problem with how the app was programmed.
also keep in mind the devs are hard @ work on more important things such as getting teh hardware to work 100%, and is something thats within relative easy grasp as opposed to modifying an application without source.
I totally agree. Youtube on 1.5 has been messed up since the November MR, which IMO is totally unacceptable. Haven said that, I hope you guys still using 1.5 don't have to wait much longer but I have to say it works great on 2.1
HQ is only available as default PRE November MR release (yea, before the MR you could set youtube to default to HQ always), and now on wifi.
You can tell a vid to go to HQ after you select the vid. Much slower, but works fine and is clear.

Possible Video Recording @720p?

I have a copy of the Evo camera files. Does anyone know how I'd go about porting it to the Desire like the N1 folks did with the Desire camera? Is it just a case of changing drivers?
720 encoding on the nexus one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698287
I'm pretty certain Evo has a different Camera. 8MP if I remember correctly, pretty certain you won't be able to port it across.

You can patch the sensor to 8mp.

First of all for this to work you have to assume the camera in the desire supports 720p recording. Then, if the cameras are anything alike, you could probably port the kernel bits, then the interface bits, then the camera itself. Looking at the apk alone isn't enough.
Had a go at this my self last night, the apk alone isnt enough and there is no kernal source yet for the Evo.
HTC have confirmed that the desire supports 720p capture, this was expected to be pushed in an update from HTC a few weeks after launch but same old same old.
would be a fantasic achievement, once the Evo kernal is up and all files available I will begin to research and attempt to port if possible.

Yes they have indeed. Read the press release they gave when desire was launched. Actually when it was first announced, they said its going to be a feature from the first place!

Eh, no they didn't. They said DivX alright but the 720P thing was just very lightly hinted at. In any case we're recording at 480 now and we get 15FPS, if we up that to 720P you should expect nothing more than a 5FPS slideshow

I defninatly get more than 15fps on 480p, over 20. But i did read that 720p was supported by the Snapdragon and also by the Desire's camera sensor
eh hem....
This was confirmed and laid out on the "pre launch" spec sheet I recieved at work.
720p capture is 100% possible and will come in a future update along with Divx playback.
the drivers/software were not finalised in time for launch.

And doesn't this more or less mean that unless we are content with waiting until 2074 for an official update, we have to get things done by ourselves?

My thoughts exactly.... In the words of LoxDev... HTC Sense only makes sense if you like waiting for updates.
The hardware support is there, we just need to get our heads down and try and port the correct drivers etc.

only thing i remember reading mentioning 720p wasn't official *shrug*
does anyone actually have a link to this statement from HTC saying we will get DivX decoding and and 720p recording/encoding?

It really doesn't matter if it was on an official statement from HTC because the Desire and N1 have the same CCD sensor, N1 now has 720p recording capabilities thanks to FroYo.
does someone can find camera drivers in kernel source code?

Flash Player update 3

Flash Player just updated.
Another step closer to Froyo.
And the build unit for this player "happens to be"...
10.1.72.7
I'm willing to speculate that 72.7 is a reference build towards FRF72-77.
=)
I still see the 72.4 version on my nexus. No version change yet.

No idea for you. But I just updated mine to 72.7 a little while ago.
Any noticeable changes?
UPDATE: Just got the update too. Trying it out now.
Yup, I'm downloading it now too.
Okay, the first thing I did was to check if the new flash can play some flash games (restaurant city) and it can!!!
The controls are not that good since the n1 has its issues with multitouch. i wonder if it will work with hulu...let me check...
Confirmed that hulu is still not working.

Just went on kongregate. Seems to be much smoother than the initial release for sure. And also faster, might be placebo though on the faster. But definitely smoother.
Anyone tried hulu?
PS EDIT: Oops. Guess hulu still not working. Bet they don't like us. Lol.
I didn't like the jerky scrolling and pinch to zoom i got from the previous releases. This one is making these things a lot better. Definitely getting closer to a final release. The video playback is better but i sill can't hit the buttons for full screen and volume, even when i'm zoomed in a lot.
A step in the right direction, but these steps seem to be too small. We still don't know if the new beta uses hardware acceleration or not.
UPDATE: I also noticed that the flash element only loads when you are watching that part of the website which is a good thing because it helps the general navigation. Maybe this is why i feel like i can scroll better.
UPDATE 2: Switching from portrait to landscape while watching a flash video is seamless now. This is what i'm talking about! +1 for Adobe!
anyone got a direct link for us droid 2.2 users?

Hellfire 1.8.. Media acceleration?

Since I cant ask in the thread directly... I thought Id make a thread.
It says media acceleration was added in the latest release, but I thought the official drivers were needed for this... and since LG hasnt released the drivers? How is this possible?
I only ask because im on hellfire 2.2 gingerbread and would like to make the jump over to the ICS since many of the issues are being sorted out.
Anyways if anybody can let me know, that would be great. Thanks
Chris
Oh! and one more thing.
If media acceleration has been successfully implemented... what about the domination release by Owain. Would that have it as well? That looks like a great release as well.

Media acceleration is like the video player and stuff, it works. This doesn't mean the camcorder works, it doesn't. The camera does work though. And yes, its in any ics rom you find here.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
The media acceleration is good for video playback, it's just that you can't record with the camera. (You still can take HD pictures.) You should be fine as long as you use your phone for RECORDING videos.

Bad recording quality on CM11?

Hello guys, how are you all?
After a long time using CM, I finally needed to use the video recording feature. But I got surprised when I recorded a video. The quality looks pretty bad with 720p, but looks good with 480p. I recorded two test videos, on 720p and 480p.
Here's a video on 720p:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvS2xPl2MHU
And here's another, on 480p:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSY4jNG6xkk
I recorded them at the same time, no changes in the background. I don't have any test video from the old Sammy ROM, maybe that's CM-only problem?

To be honest, I will be trying other ROMs later, too (CM 10.2/Sungsonic V-7).
