XDA? I'm not familiar.
LOL!
On topic, I saw this yesterday when the forums were down and found it interesting. Custom smileys ftw.

Have you been able to get it to work. I tried this morning with no success.
working perfectly for me. dont flash the zip. inside the zip, push HTC_IME.apk and Clicker.apk to /system/app/ and then place the ".htcime" file on the root of your sd. make sure to use the low res zip (the one I posted), not the hi res

correct. the hi res zip uses HUGE buttons and only half of the keyboard shows on the screen.

If you push them to system/app it overwites the old one. I also restarted my phone.vI could not get voice to work, but if you long press the microphone it takes you into settings.
Wow, this thing is hot! Also, it went completely under my radar. Thank you for this post, as I might have otherwise missed this for who knows how long.

That does nothing; I figured it out though, you'll need Android 1.6 or later for it to work.

Yeah... I know it's something simple. I'm trying to edit the .png files but 7zip won't update what I've done when I'm finished. Plus I'm a hell of a lot more confident in others here than I am myself. I can't just push the phone.apk from that theme, can I? That seems far too simple.
what rom are you running now? ill see what I can do.

Gumbo 1.5c Bare. I think that'll look really good with the DarkStar theme. I switched back to 1.5 just so I can use that theme. I love it!
Thanks, bro. I really appreciate it.
What would happen if I were to just push the phone.apk? It's just a bunch of .png & 9.png files...
I started to do the same thing awhile back but never quite finished. our dialer buttons were in htccontacts.apk if i remember right
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614830 might help someone.
they are actually in both if you just change contacts then it changes the main dialer but if you go to enter in numbers while in a call then it is still stock to it needs to be both.
ok here ya go the dark star dialer just flash like any other update.

not a problem I shouldnt have to tell to you to backup before flashing. let me know how it works.
Works like a charm! Can you explain what you did so I can start to figure this out for myself?
And post a screen shot as well.
Also -- will this work on Sense?
Oh, +1 for "knowing what you did". What files did you edit?
honestly I could have easly gone in PS and made them but there is an even easier was to do it.
1. downloaded the theme
2. unziped the theme file
3. unziped Phone.apk from theme
4. went into drawable folder.
5. used winrar to open (not unzip) stock Phone.apk and navigated to drawable folder.
6. selected dialer buttons in themes drawable folder
7. draged buttons into stock Phone.apk
repeat with HtcContacts.apk
ziped it all up signed it.
good to go.

Gotcha, and when you said to edit the stuff in the drawable folder -- I presume the actual files that were edited were in the drawable-480x320 folder and began with "phone_number_#_rest/press.png, right?"

It's fine -- I'm just trying to create a custom theme and sometimes don't know which files to actually edit, that's all. Do you know how to create a custom ROM at all -- or at least what all it entails? I know its a lot like creating a theme for the most part, but I'm not even sure where to begin the process.
Thanks for the how-to... That's going to help a whole lot!

no I havent gotten into actually cooking I honestly prefer to theme. I figure ill leave the cooking up to people smarter then me lol that have more time. that and I know that its a whole lot easier to cook if you run linux and I have no clue when it comes to linux.
im more than happy to help with anything theme wise though. Just let me know what you need.
This is the Dialer for 2.1 for anyone who has changed there density and hate the way the dialer look. This was just a quick workup to get the basics going.
STILL NEEDS WORK AND I PLAN ON RELEASING UPDATES
To make it compatible was a lot more then I expected and some things still need to be kinked out but this is much better then the stock one.
THIS HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED ON A FASCINATE (may work on other phones) AND I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT MAY COME OF THIS FILE.
Now here is the file
Dialer Download
Oh yeah, flash in CWM or ADB push the file to /system/app
Wow, this seems promissing!! I tried to install it on a Froyo Galaxy S. Unfortunately it is force closing. I looked at the log, and I got a "method not found error". So I think it is incompatible with Froyo.
Can you tell us what you did? Or better yet, can you do also a Froyo version.
BTW I think one has to backyup and delete the DialerTabActivity.odex file from the system directory for this to work.

This is a Deodexed version from the Fascinate (DJ05) and will probably will not work on FroYo.
Basically I took all of the absolute layout dimensions in the APK xml files and made the layout fluid (changing "150.0576DIP" to "fill_parent" or "content_wrap".

Anybody happen to know how to change the icon of the Dark Market? I have extracted the apk and placed my icon in replace of all the shopping carts pngs, replaced the edited apk with the one in /system/app. Tried to installed, but it failed and said "Application Not Installed". However when exit root explorer and open Dark Market the icon has not changed but the icon within the app has changed to my icon. Anybody know what I am doing wrong? Not signed correctly or what? Maybe there is an easier way to edit the apk?
UPDATED/Solved:To do... Extract the Vending.apk from /system/app place on sdcard by copying it not moving it. Open Vending.apk with 7zip: If you want all the internal icons changed as well replace "ic_menu_bag_market.png", "ic_menu_market_focused.png", "ic_menu_market_normal.png", and "ic_menu_market_pressed.png" within the "drawable-hdpi" folder with you icon of choice. Be sure to follow the dimensions of the image you are replacing. In this case they are all: 72x72. For changing the external icon that appears in your app drawer and on your home screen replace "ic_launcher_marketplace.png", and "ic_launcher_marketplace_apps.png" within the "mipmap-hdpi" folder. Make backup of Vending.apk within /system/app in case you messed something up. After replacing all those files push the apk back into /system/app overwriting the original Vending.apk (be sure you backed it up before doing this), exit root explorer or whatever app you happen to be using, and the app should of updated to the icons you changed them to.

Yo,
Old thread, but I just wanted to add my observations on this.
I did the exact same thing (as you edit on the OP) yesterday -even before I found your thread- and it did cause one or two glitches.
What I've noticed is that after modifying the markert icons (and 2 notification bar ones) of the new Market version I've found here, the Market would now display extra tabs which I couldn't see before.
I could see the "Top Paid apps", "Top Grossing" and 1 or 2 more similar tabs regarding paid apps. The thing is that I'm currently in China and those usually don't show up since they are somehow blocked here. Once I'd browse through those new tabs and scrolled down, they just became white pages. I've also tried updating an app and that worked fine and the modded notification icons also showed up properly. But I didn't like to get 3 or 4 blank pages like that and I've finally reverted to the original Market.
So yes, it works but modding Vending.apk without an official signature might modify its behavior/options so just be warned... I didn't check the logcats but seeing all that, makes me think that fooling around with the apk might create invisible problems that I don't really want to get just for a simple appearance change or two...
Here is a digitalclock(transparent and blue);
Replace old digital clock and copy digital clock app.in system/app (use Root explorer) and then reboot.
Its work for XXKPQ and your rom must be rooted and deoxeded.
