okay i did the 4 step root. the easy root, i have the ota update. still on android 2.1, i have completed it, it showed me the new "quietly brilliant" screen and i have new apps now, no super user app though. so i tryed downloading apps that take a root, and it says "your app will be downloaded" it doesnt show it in the notification bar, i have to go back to the app. and then it just says downloading but never finishes, after i did the root i never flashed a custom rom or any of that, i didnt think i had to? any help? if i need to flash a rom can someone give a link to any, maby cm6? idk, but it wont let me download any aps. i also tried going to 4shared and it wouldnt download those either. you can email me if you like.
okay nvm, after i installed the rom "finisher" it fixed all my problems, IE wifi hotspot not working and no icon showing i had total root. all fixed now, one more quick question, i want to install the new 2.2 froyo leaked, not the ota one, will i lose my "free" wifi"" and also how do i need to go about doing that? steps? system reset, flash new RA_recovery. clear all cache and then flash the rom?

That's a rooted version of the official 2.2 update, so you will still be able to get wifi tether. Just follow the steps (ASSUMING YOU HAVE AN EVO, you never did specify but it's the only phone that had a 2.2 update recently that runs CM6 AFAIK). This assumes you already have a rooted phone with NAND unlocked already.
lol read my user name over there <---<---... lol yeah like i said i have the rom finisher, its on youtube, pretty BA... and i obvously have nand unlocked sense i have a different rom on my phone, right? lol
hey i dont have the new base band, and i know i need to download the wimax and the new radio after i put the rom on my phone, but which zip file do i use for my rom the V3? thats under the MIRROR folder? or the zipped one that is before the wimax and radio zips? (its the first zipped file under his instructions)

I'm wiping since that's standard protocol, but I'll defer to more informed users whether it's a requirement for this particular update.

If you are going from Fresh to Fresh, you should be OK without wiping. I'm going to try it without wiping. If it acts up, I'll just wipe and reflash. For me, it's not a big deal.
Edit: I was going to update this with the install notes, but tauzins beat me to it below.

"Install Notes: This update does not require a data wipe if you are on Fresh Evo 3.2. If you are coming from another rom then a wipe may be required. Always perform a nandroid backup before flashing. Updating to the new radio and PRI is highly recommended. You can do it before or after you flash the rom. The download is below."

That's only if you're going from Fresh 3.2 to 3.3. If you're going from a previous version of Fresh (previous to 3.2), you need to do a complete wipe.

Says directly in the blog to wipe.
So I just flashed the file. Working fine without wipe coming from fresh 3.2 with kings bfs#8 and carbon theme. Lost my theme but that seems to be it. Flashed radio update, got stuck, pulled battery, after a few minutes it rebooted wig new radio and PRI. Right on! Thanks bro, good work!

I am on Fresh 3.2.0.0. and I still havent been able to update to PRI 1.40, still stuck on 1.34...I was planning on flashing the 1.77 PRI...should I do that before or after I update to Fresh 3.2.0.1??
Also, if the PRI 1.77 is now flashable (< is that a real word!?) why isn't it, or why can't it just be baked into the 3.2.0.1. update??
Here's my mirror from my dropbox site for those of you getting slower speeds.. I'll remove it in a few hours

You are 100% correct; I should have stated that. I'm sure there are some people who never upgraded to 3.2 since it contained an HTC kernel that broke many of the rooted features many of us enjoy.
I wiped cache and delvik cache..... Coming from 3.2... All settings and widgets stayed only thing is I lost my vanilla lock screen and apps.. But just reflash those and your good to go

Speaking of which, is wireless tether working in 3.3.0.1?
Now my question.... How do I go from 3.3.0.0 to .1?

I wouldn't be able to tell you, as I'm still downloading and it's telling me 2 1/2 hours remain. However, if the rom has a stock HTC kernel, wireless tether won't work and you will have to flash another kernel.
A better question (IMO) is, if you flash 3.3.0.1 and then a custom kernel over the rom to be able to wireless tether and OC, will you still be able to benefit from the other updates from this OTA like the GPS reboot issue, calender issue, etc?

Wireless tether is working on 3.1.0.2, and the changelog indicates 3.3.0.1 has " Updated Wireless Tether to 2.0.5-pre-9". Did it not work on 3.2?

I believe this is because when flashing the radio, updating PRI, etc, that information is stored in different locations than the actual ROM environment that we play in.
Look for another thread in this forum with a combo ZIP file that updates the Radio, WIMAX, PRI, etc, all the the latest versions included in this newly released OTA. I flashed it, have the current versions of everything and its working great.
Good luck!
hi all,
Ok, I'm new to this stuff.
1. used the simple root and it worked great.
2. I then flashed CM7 and it worked great except market was not on it.
3. I downloaded and flashed gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip by mistake, not realizing I had to use another gapps.
4. After I flashed it, the cm7 and android setup screens kept cycling between each other.
5. I restored to clockworkmod (sp) and then deleted the gapps and tried to then flash cm7. It didn't cycle between cm7 and android setup, but the cm7 screens kept cycling and never got past that.
6. I thought perhaps it was just cm7 now, so I tried miui and it's doing the same thing. It's cycling between the gingerbread man and MIUI with the status bar and won't do anything else.
Very frustrated. what have I done and how do I fix it?
Thanks folks,
Brett
You could flash the stock ruu and start over.. or, wipe everything flash cm7 and then flash gapps.

I have a D2G and I used to run Froyo-based CM7, but since the Gingerbread version is further along in development I went back to Gingerbread by SBFing. So I'm on 4.5.608 and neither of the two times I tried to flash CM7 did it work. I had to SBF twice. The first time, I got the file from Rootzwiki, and the second time I got the "7.1 Stable" file from Rom Toolbox. I used the same Google Apps package on both attempts.
So my questions are:
1. Can a Google Apps package get you stuck at the boot logo?
2. If the problem is my file, where can I go to get a good one?

In order for a Gingerbread ROM to boot it needs the Gingerbread Kernel. Are you booting with a white Motorola logo or a red one?
If it's still white and you're trying to boot Gingerbread CM7 it may be worth it to try to grab the .608 Gingerbread kernel from the TBH hack and flash that in. I've attached it to this post just in case.

7.1 Stable is probably the “official” CM7 build 7.1.0, from the cyanogenmod site.
That one is for Froyo (i.e. can only be installed over 2.4.x stock firmware).
As for RootzWiki builds… did you wipe data prior to or after installing the ROM via CWM?

Red. The SBF file put me in this situation:
System version: 4.5.608.A956.Verizon.en.US
Android version: 2.3.3
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9-gb092e69w360842ca25rhe92 #2
Build number: 4.5.1_57_D2G-38

Yeah, the reason is didn't download the stable one first is because I thought as far as anyone had gotten was 7.0 nightlies. I'm just baffled right now as to why I can't get the Gingerbread CM7. I hate stock haha
Before I flash, I backup, reboot, factory reset, wipe data, cache, dalvik, and even battery stats. Then I install CM, then gapps package, then reboot.
Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it!
Could you specify the file names for both CM7 and gapps you're using?
And you're wrong about RW builds being 7.0; they use the current CM7 source tree, and the “stable 7.1.0” is basically one of old Froyo builds by revnumbers.
Actually, I got everything from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1297517.html
I used the latest version "update-cm-7.1.0-DROID2WE" and the "gapps-gb-20110828".
The second time I used the CM file from Rom Toolbox and the same Google Apps package. So if a bad gapps package can eff you over, that's probably it. I just don't want to waste my time and try again before I have some xda-genius opinions haha
This is the Froyo-only “official” build. It will never work with a Gingerbread kernel.
As for ROM Toolbox, I have no idea. The gapps package seems to be the right one, however.
Head to http://ez-netsolutions.com/synik4l/x13thangelx/D2G/cm/ for the latest build of CM7 for the D2G. x13thangelx is currently the lead developer working on this project.
Thanks a lot!!!!!! You're the best haha I'll let you know if it works.
Refer to this thread on RootzWiki for more information: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/3069-dev-threaddroid-2-global-cm7-with-gingerbread-leak-kernel/; note that the opening post hasn't been updated since forever, so you won't find the current build there.
And use this thread if you have any questions: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4922-cm7-for-droid2-global-users-thread/
Not necessary haha, but I got it and it's working and beautiful and every setting has been adjusted and I'm super happy again!=D You're my hero.
Heres what I have tried so far after installing the newest Viper which runs great.
- Flashing multiple times boot.img
- Flashing the JellyBean Extra wifi partitions
Tried re-installing Viper 2.1.0 full wipe then flash boot still no wifi. Just says error.
Fixed it :good:
Steps I did:
1. Fresh install of Viper 2.1.0
2. flashed using Viper Boot flash script
3. flashed the extra wifi partitions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2064868
4. Rebooted works now.
Just posting that for any other noobs like myself stumbling around.

Oscar,
Sorry I missed your post. I have been on iPhone since last Sept and was just browsing back thru XDA for old time sake. You are probably a pro on this stuff by now--
