can anyone help me? I've been looking for a dictionary app for the hd2 and haven't had any luck! ino there is tons for the iphone so just woundering if there is any for this, thanks.
I am using "Langenscheidt Dictionary for Windows Mobile".
But I guess it's only available in german...
Install Microsoft Reader and then download the free Encarta Pocket Dictionary. I have used it for ages with other Windows Mobile devices. Actually can read various books with pocket Microsoft Reader. Ed
Edit.... Not sure Microsoft Reader will work with 6.5.... It appears the available app is for wm 6.1 maybe you could try it for us and report back. Regards
There are lots of dictionary apps for windows mobile.
Have a look at following links :

As a matter of fact I do think that there are lots of really good softs for windows mobile and they definitely can compete with Iphone ... and without the need to jailbreak or hack your own phone to be able to customize it a little bit !
But it is also a fact that it is more difficult to find the softs as there is no softaware catalog that could compete with the centralized AppStore : you have to search with google with a lots of keywords : Pocket PC, wm5, wm6, wm6.1, wm6.5, windows mobile and so on ...
<OFF TOPIC>
Yet the biggest enemy of Window Mobile in the ability to compete with Iphone is from my point of view ... Microsoft :
- With the aberrant conditions to entry MarketPlace for developers,
- And with their crappy windows phone 7 series that is maybe the biggest step backward in computer industry that I've ever seen,
they will totally kill Window Mobile and commit suicide to their mobile department !

Apart from "Encarta Pocket Dictionary" it is available the "Oxford English Dictionay" in .lit format for free some where in the net, and if you have a dictionary in .doc format (with hypertextual links) you can convert it to .lit format using the appropriate mirosoft word patch, all links will work in .lit too.

I remembered reading the MS was going to offer a new version of Office Mobile for WM6 that supported the new document formats for free this summer (summer has only a few weeks left). I can't find any info about this at MS's website, anyone hear more about this?

No clue, but DataViz beat them to the market with Documents To Go 3 for Windows Mobile (and DTG10 for Palm OS, DTG 3.1 for Symbian UIQ, and DTG2 for Symbian S80).
The last time I used DTG it did not support creation. Has that changed?

Office Mobile doesn't allow creation on Smartphones, but DTG (I only have version 2) supports document creation (PowerPoint, Spreadsheets and Word Docs)

Hi there,
Microsoft Office Mobile 6.1: Upgrade for Microsoft Office 2007 file formats - 29-11-2007, 09:56 PM
Microsoft have now released Office 6.1 upgrades for devices, at long last:
Microsoft Office 2007 introduced new Open XML-based file formats for Office applications. These new file formats reduce file size, improve security and reliability, and enhance integration with external sources.
To allow Windows Mobile users to work with Office documents created in the Open XML formats, Microsoft has developed an upgrade for Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, and PowerPoint Mobile applications. This upgrade to the Office Mobile applications allows viewing and editing of Word documents and Excel workbooks and viewing of PowerPoint slideshows created by using Microsoft Office 2007.
Other improvements include:
• Enhanced viewing experience for charts in Excel Mobile.
• Ability to view SmartArt in PowerPoint Mobile.
• Ability to view and extract files from compressed (.zip) folders.
Microsoft Office Mobile 6.1 Full Version to support Microsoft 2007 file formats
If your Windows Mobile device does not have a version of Microsoft Office Mobile prior to 6.1, you can purchase the full version of Microsoft Office Mobile.
The Office Mobile application suite includes Microsoft Office Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, and Microsoft Office PowerPoint® Mobile for Windows Mobile 6 powered devices, helping users manage and review documents. Microsoft Office Mobile includes support for rich reviewing and minor editing capabilities as well as support for rights-managed documents.
The primary user scenario enabled by Office Mobile is viewing e-mail attachments, performing minor edits, sharing document versions, and opening documents from an SD card or a SharePoint server. Office Mobile provides a high-fidelity document viewing experience, with capability to edit as well as fast performance in loading the first page of the document.
Note: This free upgrade works only for Windows Mobile powered devices that have an earlier version of Office Mobile. If your Windows Mobile powered device does not have Office Mobile applications, this upgrade will not work for you. You can purchase the full version of Office Mobile 6.1 online. For more information, click here -Microsoft Office Mobile: Word, Excel and PowerPoint - Windows Mobile.

Apparently this will only work on WM5 Pocket PC version and NOT the Smartphone version.
I wondered why MS was now selling Office Mobile - I guess this is so the older platform that doesn't support this upgrade can now spend some $$$ to do so?

Nope, it seems more like MS is offering it for the older platforms for free and yet charging money for it on WM6 Smartphone devices that did not ship with a version of office... WTF? This upgrade is very confusing and strange...

There should be an option to turn off the notificaition, under your personal settings.

Lots of free apps for every need.
Now here's a small installation guide so you don't leave comments on the site asking for help installing:
CAB files - Put directly on your device (or on your memory card) and find it in File Explorer then click on it.
TSK files - These are themes. They work just like CABs.
EXE files - Some will run from your computer (most of them) and others will run from your devices. The latter require no installation, there is just the executable and nothing else (generally).
Hi
I have an HTC Touch HD with Swedish Windows Mobile 6.1. I very much want to use the PIM program called Pocket Informant. But when I try to install it, I am told that my platform is not supported
Is there any way that I can still go ahead and install it? Or is there a great chance that it will not work, even if I should not be able to install it?
I am quite annoyed that I cannot easily replace my Swedish OS license and installation with an English one, but that's another discussion....
I guess my question merely is; Is there a tweak that can be carried out, to run English Windows Mobile programs on non-English installations? I don't know Windows Mobile that well, so I have no idea whether this would actually be possible.
On Windows based PC's, this works. So I thought it might be the same on Windows Mobile devices?
I've been using Pocket Informant (in my opinion the best PIM software never made for mobile devices) for ages
And this week end , moving apps from the official ROM to the last fxdjacentyfxd ROM, I visited the Pocket Informant web to see if it was a new release....and I've found a note saying that they have stopped development for Windows devices (even Windows 7!!):

As you may be aware, Alex recently announced end-of-life for Windows Mobile products. You can download them (and "buy them" at no charge from Mobihand), but here are keys you can use for PI and Journal Sync:
Pocket Informant 9 - Windows Mobile PPC (touchscreen) - Y3QAT-8A8QY-MMYU3-YUY2G-CMWSA
Pocket Informant 9 - Windows Mobile Smart Phone (no touchscreen) - AGKCD-A22CU-EQ6C5-AQWSG-S3Q8A
Journal Sync - 02-R10371866-298
Download links:
Pocket Informant http://download.pocketinformant.com/9/
Journal Sync: http://download.pock...or_PI_Setup.exe
Thanks,
Don
after that I've found a thread here:

It's a pity, and it's just another fact that proves that WM users we are a kind of "Jurassic Parc" of the mobile devices, far away from Iphones and Androids
The only good new is that you can install this app from the oficcial page for free. Test it! it's agreat program to organize your professional and leisure life (and now for free, that has been a " beau geste" from the owner, WEBis, to all the WM users for all these years toguether)
I don`t know I should be happy or I should cry.

SBSH Calendar (non-touch) never fixed for WM6.5
@Pere
Since everyone has stopped developing for WM Standard (non-touch), we are some kind of Jurassic Park, right.
I am a SBSH Calendar (Papyrus, non-touch) fan - but they never fixed the Calendar to work with WM6.5!
It's a shame but understandable.
