GPS Software ~ Display OS Grid Data - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Guys,
I'm trying to locate software that allows me to view Ordinance Survey UK data either 6, 8 or 10 grid.
At the moment all I can find is GPS titles that show your position in Latitude & Longitude.
As I carry an OS Map with me whilst out walking it can be a pain checking your position from the Phone's Lat&Long position onto an OS Map.
Ideally it would be great if the software could either display both Lat&Long and OS Grid reference or convert Lat&Long to OS grid Reference numbers.
Any idea guys???

GPS Skinner will do this.
It's very flexible, I use it for sailing onto waypoints, but you have to write your own (text based) skin to customise it.
EDIT: From the GPS Skinner documentation:
#OSGB - This is a ten figure grid reference (e.g. NN 32269 32599) for the current position in terms of the Ordnance Survey Great Britain Grid.
#OSGB_SHORT - This is a six figure grid reference (e.g. NN 322 325) for the current position in terms of the Ordnance Survey Great Britain Grid.
#GRID_LOCATOR - This is the current position in terms of the Maidenhead Locator Grid.
#LATITUDE_DDD - This is the current latitude expressed as decimal degrees.
#LATITUDE_DMM - This is the current latitude expressed as degrees and decimal minutes.
#LATITUDE_DMS - This is the current latitude expressed as degrees, minutes and seconds.
#LONGITUDE_DDD - This is the current longitude expressed as decimal degrees.
#LONGITUDE_DMM - This is the current longitude expressed as degrees and decimal minutes.
#LONGITUDE_DMS - This is the current longitude expressed as degrees, minutes and seconds.

I tend to use Memory Map, have done for years.
as it's OSGB based it works a treat (and I carry LOTS of maps with me, without a piece of paper in sight)
there's also http://www.users.callnetuk.com/~shanks/GPSMap.html
but I haven't tested it with the HD2

Whilst I truly appreciate what you have shown here cozzykim, I simply do not have the time to first understand and then create the skins required to show me the OS Reference data.
Maybe it is something I could do much later when I have time....
For now, all I need is something that shows me either the OS position or a conversion from a Lat & Long into OS Grid.

Again I appreciate the information fards but I would first need to have MM loaded onto my PC, create maps and have another MM installed with maps on the phone.
The same roughly with GPSMap-OS.
Again it's overkill to my needs.
I found something but have not yet had time to check it out. It is OS GPS Converter.
Not entirely what I am seeking as it's not large font touchscreen friendly.
Again my thanks to you also fards.

Mapping software?

I am looking for software+maps (preferably UK OS maps) for cross-country walking. Viewranger would be ideal if it worked on WM. I see memory-map and ozi-explorer have been mentioned here. Any preferences or other recommendations?
My recommendation would be for Memory Map. I've tried it in the past, and was very impressed, and know keen walkers who rely on it. I liked being able to plan a route and 'preview' it, print maps and then program the GPS (I was using an external GPS with a different PDA then).
I don't know OziExplorer, but it looks as if it does similar things. There's an interesting comparison of the two if you do a search - basically it finds that Ozi has the better desktop version, but Memory Map is the better Pocket PC version.
Hope this helps.
I use Quo from Mapyx
I originally tried Memory Map & Anquet, these being the main rivals to each other. I found that the Anquet WM program has issues, so from the start that ruled them out, Memory Map was good, but the cost for the maps was a lot more than Quo, with Quo you can buy single map 'tiles' which I found suited my needs vs cost better.
When using the using the maps I found MM was complicated by having a massively complicated (IMO) licensing system, only thing that was a plus for MM was the WM program was smoother than Quo, in that Quo refreshes the map each time after you move it manually (fine when tracking via GPS), while MM is a live map (think the way Opera goes blocky when you move around a page and has to update.)
Thanks for the feedback both of you. For cheapness, I have installed Quo and bought the minimum number of map tiles. However, although they are loaded seamlessly on the PC, it seems that they have to be manually switched on the mobile. Also, I don't see how to directly copy the original map tiles from PC to mobile. Smaller versions seem to be created when 'export' is selected. I have contacted their support.
I use Ozi Explorer CE with topo map my country, long time (since 2006 on Mio701, now HTC Topaz) and for me is best, because OziExplorerCE have many, many navigation options. Map your country (UK) can found (googled) on the net... But spend your time i found what interest you:
GB Topo 1:50 000 calibrated and prepared for direct using in Ozi Explorer (Your signature say you have capacity memory card):

I agree that it isn't the clearest concept the way they get you to transfer the maps to the mobile. The way I work is to treat the map(s) of the country as a master map (I've got both 25k & 50k maps) then create an 'Area' of the part of the country I want to send to my mobile, in which res I want or both (25k & 50k).
For example I went to the Peak District earlier this year, so brought 25k & 50k maps of the area (25k for where I know I would go, with the 50k for the general location) then I marked out an 'Area', this 'Area' excluded some places that the maps I had brought covered, but that I knew I would not be visiting so reducing the file size of the maps to be transfered.
I actually find this way makes a lot of sense as you don't have to worry about transferring brought tiles, but can just transfer the area you need, even if that area crosses two brought tiles.
The only other thing, is when you've got two types of map (25k & 50k) they both need to be transfered individually, and then on the mobile loaded individually, also unlike the desktop application the mobile app won't zoom through the different maps, you need to load up either the 25k OR the 50k.
Overall I am still very happy with it, I think some of the issues with the mobile app are down to having to cater for the limited power of some mobile devices.
I'm happy to give any help I can.

Good to see that you are reporting wrong location to us, we will check that location out shortly. You probably didn't know this due to our lack of instruction in the app, but the app does have a feature where when you are at a location that isn't accurate, you can correct the location on your device.
The way to do it is. 1. Click on the detail of the location(Walgreen), 2 Click on the triangle sign(button). 3. The app will search for a GPS signal and when it lock in, press the fix button. That will send us the right coordinate for that particular location and it will also reflect in your device right away. No need to way for us to correct it. This will also help order people in your area out too .
Thank You for using YAH !

thanks a lot

I see flags, lot of flags on the map and list, what's wrong? I see some retailer graphic, but lot more flags now!!! Though when i click on flag it shows me a list of retailers and flag next to it. Not as intuitive as having icons. Can you get the retails logo back?
dumble_bee,
I had this same problem the first time I installed it yesterday. It was in the middle of loading the icons and then my data connection dropped. It left with a bunch of flags and restarting the app didn't help. I found a fix for this, by wiping the catch and data in the setting->management application. Once I did that all the icons came in.
f8andbethere,
Thanks for this pretty useful app. I now know there is a RiteAid store that is closer to the one I normally go to because of this. I will take it for a drive this weekend and will report back.

Did that, helped only partially! i can see bevmo yay! but I still see lot of flags i.e. AutoZone is a blue flag? and so are others...
heeellllppppp...do i have to reset the device to clean it up?
We know about the bug Carlos mentioned and will fix that in our next major release. The work around is what Carlos has described. Go the setting->manage application->you are here->clear cache and data.
dumble bee,
If you are only missing some icons then that is because we are a bit behind on icon creation as we were focus on pushing a lot of new data last week. We will fix it shortly.
You probably saw some local food places with just flags in your area. Those we will probably never fix unless they are very well known.
f8
dumble bee,
Pushed some icons last night. Give it a go and let us know if you still have issue. Autozone should be there now.
Enjoy,
F8
Took this out for a last minute shopping in San Francisco yesterday. Worked out pretty good. Data came in pretty quickly. The only problem was in the middle of downtown the GPS went in and out because of tall buildings. Other than that it worked great.
Carlos
Nice concept. Would be cool if it could also access one of those online coupon databases and show you coupons/sales/deals for stores around you.
SwiftLegend,
Thank you for your input. We are actually working on the exact feature you are requesting. It will probably be in beta in a few weeks.
Thanks,
F8
F8,
If you need someone to test the coupon/deal beta when it is ready let me know.
Carlos
This looks awesome. Giving it a try.
v1.5.0 tagging/sharing & social
Thanks for your support and suggestions guys. Just put out v1.5.0 yesterday. Check it out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22065667
This baby has social network integration for sharing deals, coupons etc. If you find a deal you can post it and it is visible to others (TagIt) using the app. You can also share a tag on social networks.

[FREE APP] ATV Trail Locator

Download: valevarkasystems.(com)/sites/android/atv/vvsatvtraillocator.apk
I just uploaded it to the Android Market, check it out: play.google.(com)/store/apps/details?id=com.valevarkasystems.atvtraillocator
I want the opinions of people out there that ride or walk the trails, or simply like using supportive apps.
Here's the deal. I got tired of riding the same trails around my area, but found it hard to locate other trails.
Because of this I developed an Android Application that allows you to find trails traversed by other riders or walkers.
I uploaded a videos to youtube: youtube.(com)/watch?v=Y_cj4x_6Z18
youtu.(be)/Wmk3cA2i2vI
This is directly from the description: "This app allows you to find popular off road trails where ATV, dirt bikes, mountain bikes, or walkers traverse.
You can broadcast your location so that other users of the app can see where the action is.
The application automatically records your traveled coordinates and publicizes them so that others can find traveled trails
visit VVS Sites for more information"
What do you all think? Would this help you out? (find popular trails, see where the action is)
If you see this exact post on other forums, it's because I want to get the word out.
Thanks,
New Features
I plan on adding new features such as trail information, pictures, and audio files.
This will allow for riders to post information about a trail such as dangers, difficulties, and conditions.

"QUOTE"
Perfect! Keep them private as in only phones with specified cell numbers, i.e. 240-555-6789, can view trails posted by a particular device.
So, say a person is recording a new trail. This person can then "send", which really approves, phones with certain numbers or people in his/her contact list.
If you were not approved by said [ ] person/phone, then even if you have the app, you cannot view the trail.
This would be the same as word-of-mouth, but more visual.

I have fixed all errors/crashes for the ATV app. You should download VERSION 4.0. Might take a while for Google to update the play store page, but you can download it right away from my website. The ATV app is now in the hundreds of downloads.

Version 5.0
VIDEO COMING SOON:
VVS website: http://www.valevarkasystems.com/sites/android/atv/vvsatvtraillocator.apk
Android Market: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.valevarkasystems.atvtraillocator
I'm still working on the backend scripting as of now. The reason I released the update even though the backend code isn't finished is because the templates for loading coordinates has changed, and without the update, previous versions will crash.
Update 5.0 includes 9 major additions to the trail application:
1.) Trail Tag - The trail tag adds more identification to the application as this allows you to slightly customize your trail marker so that if a few friends are looking for you, they can tap near-by map blips to see who is at that position, making identification easier. In order to use this feature, users must have an account with ValeVarkaSystems as the trail tag is the rider's username from the site, no longer the first and last name. The default trail tag is "Not Signed In".
2.) Link Pictures/Videos (2 features): Allows you to link already uploaded pictures from your account on Vale'-Varka Systems.com. You must have an account to link pictures or videos as, once again, the data is simply linked from what's already in your account. This was also programmed in this manner so that users can see their previous trail pictures and others as they are already listed in their account interface without having to use the ATV Trail Locator app.
3.) Trail Features, Ride Time, & Info (2 features): When this is activated, users will be take to Vale'-Varka Systems.com to see a list of pictures & videos, best ride time listings, and any trail features, such as, high water, closed, wild animals, unsafe, etc, so that riders on that trail can get an understanding of the safe or danger level of a given trail. This data can also be downloaded by simply tapping the trail markers on the map so that you don't actually have to be in that area to see data for that area as the "Trail Features, Ride Time, & Info" automatically uses your coordinates as the area.
4.) Personal Security/Time Delay: When activated, the user's time stamp is increased by 10 minutes. This is done so that user's can record trails without the worry of someone else tracking/stalking them the entire time. When recording trails and with the personal security option activated, your recorded trails will not show up in other user's phones for at least 10 minutes. This allows you to record a trail and then leave the area, with no one being able to track your movements.
5.) Satellite ON/OFF: This simply allows you to turn the GPS tracking on or off so that you can use the application without, once again, being tracked or have your position broadcasted.
6.) Account (Sign In/Out): This allows you to sign into your Vale'-Varka Systems account. This is needed in order to have a custom trail tag.
7.) Request No Ride Zone/Personal Spot: Some people want to ride with friends and know where they are, but they don't want their trail being publicized. This allows riders to send in request to have a "No ride zone" placed near their personal trails. Now, nothing shows the location of a personal trail more than an empty spot on the map. So, when approved, the "no ride zone's" blank area will be increased by a couple miles in each direction to mask the exact location of a personal trail.
Even more features are planned for the future to increase the efficiency and usefulness.

WiFi Triangulation
Currently working on the WiFi Triangulation. With this will come an animation denoting which phones are being used to triangulate your position; they will be surrounded by a ring, with you on the edge of that ring. As more phones triangulate your position, those rings will intersect at a common point, i.e. your location. As long as you are using WiFi to triangulate, you will see those rings from other phones.
Splash image - WiFi Triangulation
And yes, that is an icon of a plane! But, that represents, more or less, low speed, private pilots/single prop engines
Next thing you know I'm going to have a satellite icon, just kidding...
Awesome man I'm definitely going to try this out! The trails around my place are fun but it does get repetitive after a while.

[APP][3.0+][V4.0.0] LocationDetector(GPS)

Important: the application can work without Internet connection!
LocationDetector is full suite for travelers, fishermen and mushroom pickers! It is direct GPS Navigator to saved places.
Use navigation arrow to find the saved location you have forgot.
Use compass to get directions of North, West etc.
Send locations via sms, see all locations on map etc....
Now you can do all of these things with the only one application - LocationDetector !!!
In advanced version you have additional features like adding locations from google map or enter it numeric values, weather conditions etc.!
Also there is no advertisement in Advanced Location Detector!
Thanks for using it!

SCREENS:
Hey guys, you are welcome to put your comments here, we will appreciate it much!
If anyone has suggestions, it would be great, or at least if you say that this app is great
I'll test it out when I go on a hike next. I'll comment my thoughts after I do!
Edit: Okay after installing it and playing for a few minutes I have to say I do like the app. Just a few things I noticed, nothing bad. Just what I feel would make it well polished. No disrespect.
1; You could use a pin to signify my location instead of the android. Pin on a map. Classic.
2; Swiping between tabs would be amazing.
3; When you have a GPS fix and go to the Map tab, it would be nice if it automatically pans to your location. I know you can do this by clicking a location in Saved Locations tab and clicking show on map, but it would be nice for the app to do it automatically just so when you go to the map it shows the area around you if you're exploring new areas around you. Mine always starts over Africa and I have to move it back to NY, USA to get to my location.
Everything else is nice though. I like it. Indeed works offline with no connection. Good app.
RoyJ, Thanks a lot for your review!!!
1) Could be, but just for fun, and better distinguish I use this droid. Because, once you add a lot of locations you will lose your current location in case it will be the same pin (just colored in another way )
2) Yeah, thinking of it, probably will add it
3) You shouldn't choose location in list, you can just tap map tab.
There is option in menu on map tab(bind to me) - this option allow you be always in the center of map.
If fix is available - you will see green line at the top(it is red if GPS is not available). At this moment - just go to the map and bind map to you, it will move with you
Enjoy!
I'm always open to discuss and help if you need it.

Unfortunately no, you can't find your phone using Location Detector. I though about implementing such application, but it will be another story.
Location detector is being used for getting back to places you saved, or if you are want to reach some totally unknown places. So you just add it on the map, save to your list, and navigate to the necessary place.

I haven't used WU, but I can say that I am not experiencing this with Weather Company.

Yes, I thought I had selected the wrong provider previously, but re checking now, and back on Accuweather.
This is great. I have been using this since day one. Just purchased another subscription for second device. Keep up good work...
I like this weather app, but - there's a big commercial in it, so I can't see why it should be any different from the free version?
I'd buy this app if the price was reasonable, but paying a monthly fee for a weather app is pushing it, it's beautiful though.
Anyone have problems with the app constantly using gyroscope and accelerometer? I did search the main thread to find someone had the same problem but no solution was given.

Yeah, I reported on this in the original thread a while back. It's still happening for me on the XDA edition as well.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79967484&postcount=1978
I've done some digging around today and found out via logcat that the app is running a webview in the background. I've force stopped the webview and the sensor usage stops until it relaunches it again. Usually relaunching the app will also stop using the sensors. So far this seems to be a problem with Android 9 as I didn't have this on Android 8.
Code:
10-05 16:30:48.654 1121 1176 I ActivityManager: Start proc 27371:com.android.chrome:sandboxed_process0/u0i172 for webview_service mobi.lockdown.weather/org.chromium.content.app.SandboxedProcessService0
i have the issue with WU too, it always reverts to accuweather
Thanks for the update.
