Got this from lifehacker, trying it out now. (2.1 only though)

It has some pretty ****ty reviews on the Market, so I will pass.
Wow
Looks pretty interesting OP! Let me know how it runs with the Hero and Sense UI and all. If you say it's a must have, I will jump on board.
I've been using it since last night. I like it, but it seems either I am a little slow, or it is. Definetly can't type with it as fast as I could the stock Sense QWERTY - maybe I'm odd...well there is no maybe about it, I am odd.
Edit:
I figured it out, I can't ever hit the space bar on the first try, it never seems to register unless I hit it 2 or 3 times.

funny most of the apps i run have gotten "****ty" reviews but they are great .
I tried it. I found it laggy by comparison to the android app. Turned off the vibrate and it was still laggy. Worse part for me was that I was already expecting each letter to be where it usually was, but in some case it made other keys larger and moved the other keys in to places where I kept misspelling words. I had to give it up.
anyone ever seen/tried Swiftkey? It seems pretty good with current AND next word predictions..kinda what TouchPal used to be for WinMo

Haven't tried ThickButtons yet but I've tried everything else and Swype is still my favorite input keyboard, by far.

Before switching to the Hero I carried an iPhone for a few years, so I'm plenty accustomed to onscreen keyboards.
After using Swype, though, I have to say it is an absolute must have. With the iPhone keyboard, I got to where I was just as fast as I have been on any smart phone hardware keyboard. But with Swype I'm nearly as fast as on my desktop keyboard.
I now consider it to be essential enough that I might even consider illegitimate channels if my current version expires and a legit channel isn't opened up.
Has anybody tried Smart Keyboard? Free version is good enough for me so far, and i like it better than any other keyboards i tried.
But I haven't tried Swype yet..
And what i really like about Smart Keyboard is that it has option to turn on foreign language keyboard, and since im using Russian keyboard sometimes it's a big plus for me to have that quick switch on a good keyboard instead of changing input method.
Anyone mind pointing me in the right direction for a copy of the swype app? google and forums search fail me.
I hate when people say a app sucks because they get one fc. like you only had it for 15mins and you already saying it sucks. When i read reviews i still like to see and use it for my self with out believing 100% of the review

i've heard that paid members on modaco have access to the beta swype wants input from "android power users". this is a rumor and don't quote me on that. i'm not trying to start trouble. i got an email a short time ago about it but i'm just fine using "swype lite" maybe someone could put that in the search bar or google....
Yeah, just tried two different swype beta sources and couldnt get it to work. Kept saying my trial period has ran out.

now the point of this is to make the conversation more....fluid. when im in the stock mode, picture 2, i just feel so disconnected from the conversation. i use google talk, i dubbed it GGM (Google Gmail Talk) just so it sounds as cool as BBM, and when im typing in landscape I cant even see what the other person wrote unless i exit the keyboard. again, this just takes me out of the whole experience. now some might say that the screen is too cramped with this option, others, like myself, say its not that bad and its probably worth it. and perhaps to satisfy both parties, maybe we can implement a double tap feature which will go back to stock mode. honestly, i have no clue if this is even possible but your inputs would be nice.
check out this thread: this guy actually did it but its kinda rough.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=672435
I like where you are going with this idea maybe you should pm the dev of the HTC IME mod
I type in portrait 99.999% of the time for this reason. I hate getting an IM/text from someone and not being able to see it without exiting the app.
I like what you did by not taking away from the kb size any, but from the HUGE area they give the text space. The text doesn't need that much room IMO. I hope this can be addressed and something better can from it.
I have to say, I dont like it....had it on my last device and it feels to tight, to small, I prefer to rotate my the device and enjoy the big field to type.
The only time I could really see myself needing to use the stock setup would when writing long responses in a forum. for example, before XDA had an app I would respond to threads using the standard view from the browser in landscape. this nicely moved all the other unnecessary stuff and made quoting someone very clean and easy.

I think landscape typing is horrendous on android..I'd love to see it fixed. I'm a landscape lover but usually I stick to portrait for the KB.

I wonder if this is really something within the actually keyboard. I thought it was a framework issue, granted tho, I don't know much about that subject. is there anyone out there willing to make this happen?
The easiest solution to this problem is to use Swype, which works better in portrait view, and still type fast.

I can't believe google decided that the keyboard and input box should take up the whole screen... sure hope somebody finds a way to do this! or at least make the text box slightly transparent or something
PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU TO MAKE THIS
i hate how the text box takes up the whole top of the screen i would like to see the last msg that was sent
i hate iphones 2 but they have some good ideas

I don't like the way the landscape keyboard takes up the whole screen and covers all the previous msgs/ content. I would love to see this solution implemented or a previous suggestion where the text input area was transparent.
maybe this will he seen by more devs if it was in the development section. is it in the right section?
I have emailed jonasl, hopefully he will email me back.

alright folk, i just had a lil chat with Chris Soyars (the dev who worked with cyanogen on stuff like the cool App2SD feature and who created NexusMod Live) and he says this is wayyyy to complicated. My predictions were correct, this is not something that is found within the HTC_IME or any other keyboard, its something within the framework. He admitted to me that he wouldnt even know where to start! Guess I got a lil over zealous with my request. He is really busy so he cant work on this but he said its all about finding the dev who is willing to put the time in.
with that said, i still think it can be done!! lol we just need the right person.
Hi,
I think you should read android-developers.blogspot.c0m/2009/04/updating-applications-for-on-screen Much of the problem lies not in the keyboard, but in how the applications interact with the keyboard.
Google's algorithm makes sense, but many applications don't specify their input mode, so the keyboards do the best they can.
Different combinations of Keyboards/Applications will yield different results. If you don't like what you have, tell the developer, or change keyboard and/or application.
Cheers!

This is a HUGE help! I think I understand this better. Its not necessarily a framework issue, its the keyboard itself and all the keyboards are roughly identical. So what happens, if i read this correctly, is the keyboard has a predefined algorithm that tells it there isnt enough space on screen to have both the keyboard and app showing. that is why it reverts to covering up the whole screen.
This is used when the IME is too large to reasonably share space with the underlying application. With the standard IMEs, you will only encounter this situation when the screen is in a landscape orientation, although other IMEs are free to use it whenever they desire. In this case the application window is left as-is, and the IME simply displays fullscreen on top of it, as shown here:
Click to collapse
So if we look at the IME and readjust what it considers to be too cramped of a space to display the full keyboard and part of the app on the same screen then it should work! what u guys think?
did some more digging. this is from HTC_CIME but it should be roughly the same idea:
keyboardBackground="@7F020074"
keyboardPadding="0,2,0,4"
functionKeyBackground="@7F020032"
commonKeyBackground="@7F020031"
pageKeyBackground="@7F02008A"
Click to collapse
could these be the settings responsible for letting the app appear in the background with the landscape keyboard over it? i dont know what they "@7F02..." mean, what do these values represent?

at least it's an effort away from the the standard qwerty design.
it surprises me that we are so hung up on a keyboard layout that was originally designed to slow the typist down.
no way!
i do not like this! i tried it and it's hard for no reason!
For something that is an almost revolutionary change, you figure they'd release a trial version...
Edit: I know you can do the 24 hr thing, but most people are gonna need more than 24 hrs to get used to this. I'd say a minimum of 2 week trial would be required to get acceptably proficient.
I'm with all of you on this .... i normally pick up stuff fairly quick and i'm having the hardest time getting to any letters outside of a, i, y, s, e, t you get my point. the tutorial is not helping me. i see what they say but i don't get it .... i'm keeping close eye on my 24hr window ..... this one may be a return ....
I returned it. There's no way I can determine whether or not I'll be able to figure this thing out in a week, let alone 24 hours.
It took me a bit to figure out how to do it.... To get the other letters you have to go out from the letter you want then move your finger either clockwise or counter clockwise 1-4 sides til you get the letter you want.
For example to get a U slide your finger right like you would for an O then circle around to the side with the
S then back to the center. For Z you would go out from the center then make a complete circle. If that makes sense I'm not to great at explaning things... Its really fast once you figure it out and get used to it
Edit: cleaned post up a bit and explained it better.
(yes I know my grammar sucks I'm still trying to get used to 8pen)
Just watching the video almost gave me an aneurysm.
thanks

Kind of like swiftkey but with more word suggestions. Swiftkey learns what you type though, if this is using the google scribe data I don't think it would have the same functionality.

Fantastic. Swifkey too. The future of typing.
More languages google, pleaseeeeee... (like greek for example, hahaha...)
again only english +2 other. Google and Microsoft never see rest of the word
No STT kills it for me.
Scrybe is a really interesting alpha release and will probably get much better.
At this time SwiftKey is way out in front for a number of basic reasons:
* Scrybe requries a constant, fast connection. SwiftKey works everywhere.
* SwiftKey allows multiple languages, even at the same time. Not Scrybe.
* SwiftKey learns your typing style with constantly better suggestions.
* SwiftKey often suggests the correct word before you even start typing it.
* Scrybe is slow even with a great internet connection. SwiftKey is fast.
* Scrybe admits that they are using Google Scribe, probably without a license.
Once SwiftKey learns your writting style over a couple of days, it is dramatically faster than Swype. But because SwiftKey finishes your words and even gives your upcoming words it cannot be used to break the texting speed records.
downloading .................... thanks
I've been using swiftkey since I still cant get swype and I love it. I tried using swype the other day and I failed. Ive had swift key predict whole sentences or even more than one sentence. I won't try scrybe until it proves its better then swiftkey.
Only thing I dislike about swiftkey is that it does save words you type often....which sucks
example (ex girlfriend) it still comes up with her name if I type just the first letter. hahah
Sorry to remain off-topic, but in SwiftKey, if you tap and hold a suggested word it gives you the option to remove it.
Your ex-girlfriend can be forgotten about!
This is getting out of hand. Swype is constantly popping this "this word has been hidden by blah blah blah previously entered into the dictionary" tip. i had that annoyance too with the word "ehart" (is that even a word lol) and "what".
What i did was type "ehart" letter by letter in the text message screen then selected all, and pressed the swype button. That process deletes the word from the Swype dictionary. Afterwards, there was no problems.

yep already thought of that, one problem tho... i also write in russian (but using english similar-sounding letters) and as you'd expect there are quite a few "gibberish" english words that got stored in swype dictionary, and also, i had cases where i use tech/street jargon that cause that "tip" to pop up too... so nah, spelling properly isnt really the solution

I was having the same annoying pop-up. Just for fun, I decided to check to see if Swype was completely up to date on my phone and apparently it was not. So I updated Swype and it seems like that annoying box has gone away now. I have not been typing a ton, though, so it is not fully tested. I may be the only one dumb enough to not try updating before... but if you haven't tried yet I recommend it.
Go to the Swype Installer app on your phone and see if it says there is a more recent update.
Hope that helps.

mine is 2.17.59.15552.t100, which I think is the latest.
I thought it was popping up because my finger kept hitting the i button for tips next to the Arrow you use to capitalize words, not because I was spelling things wrong. Mine does not pop up for spelling words wrong, I believe you guys are hitting the i by mistake like I do sometimes. But, it is annoying, and should be removed.
i have an unrooted evo but i dont have the swype installer
THANK GOD I'm not alone on this! The stock Sense keyboard -- and now that I've flashed CM, its keyboard -- work fine, but who doesn't type one-handed? Swype is still the best for it.
Anyway, REALLY hope this gets fixed.
There are a lot of posts here complaining about the beta, but...it's a beta. It's still in development. I was very vocal when the gear first came out without fleksy especially when they announced it with launch nearly 2 months before the release date. But it's here and I'm happy. here are some tips to make replying to sms easier.
1. Use the shortcut clock and put fleksy as one of the apps. One thing I love about the gear 2 is how easy it is to customize the interface by simply dragging and dropping from the watch.
2. If you have a group of lets say 5 or 10 people you text very frequently, simply put a "." in front of the contact name. When your watch syncs up, those contacts will be at the top eliminating the need to scroll through dozens (or in my case) hundreds of contacts) When you get notified of a txt, simply press the home button, click on fleksy on your shortcut watch face, select contacts at the top of the list and your all set. It's really very easy. I've attached the image to show you my setup. If anyone has any questions post away, I will be doing a video on youtube shortly.
Thank you for Fleksy for finally getting this out there. This app brings us a huge step closer to the smartwatch we all wanted!

Thank you for the tips/advice. Your suggestions are great and it works well to sort. My issue is that I thought Flesky would do autocorrects, especially with such a small keyboard to try and use, but mine does not. Does anyone know if this feature is coming?

The auto-correct feature works just fine on mine. It didn't work the first time I downloaded the application but after a delete and re-install it worked fine. You could try that.
Always worked on mine. You're right, it would be worthless if it didn't

Guess what? It does work, but I was typing one word tests at first and did not hit the space bar. You need to do this to have the autocorrect do its thing. Now when I type tsting, it corrects it to testing, or thrre to three. Thanks all.

Good point. I always have to hit the space bar after the last word, which is kind of weird
how i close off the autocorrect theme because i am from greece and i want to write greek with latin characters an the autocorrect make this thing impossible.
it may just be me or my phone, but it seems like after i send 1 or more messages with Flesky from my Gear neo, the "swipe" keyboard on my S5 stops working. I also lose my autocorrect feature unless i restart the phone (have not found another fix yet).
anyone else notice this? its almost like the S5 forgets it has Swype, and instead thinks its still using flesky.
I've setup my "Double Press" home button to open Fleksy. The "Double Press" command works from any screen on the Gear 2. After I read a text message I immediately "Double Press" and Fleksy appears showing my inbox.
