ok so i've followed through the thread you posted and i have now got to the point where i have edited a few images and used cfc gui to put the .png images back into the manila files. Now i need some advice on how to create the cab so that it can be easily installed and uninstalled, i really don't want to just replace the manila files.

Tip for creating cabs:
If you already have HDWall installed (e.g. to make transparent taskbars and softkeybars), you can use the built-in 'create cab' function to create your cabs - this saves installing an extra piece of software...
On the subject of tutorials, I can tell you from experience that creating your own 'digital' clocks is a lot easier than creating your own sliders.
The easiest way to go about creating a new digital clock is:
1. Take somebody else's clock cab (I've attached one of mine to this post)
2. Unzip it (Winzip will do it) to get the original files
3. Re-name the 'working' files back to their original 'manila names' (if you look inside the _setup.xml file, you can see the both the manila filename and the working filename e.g.
<characteristic type="1435ccbf_manila" translation="install">
<characteristic type="Extract">
<parm name="Source" value="FILE0001.001" />
means the file named FILE0001.001 should be re-named to 1435ccbf_manila etc. (note: the xxxxxx.999 file is not needed here!)
4. Once you have extracted and re-named all the manila files, you can use CFC_GUI to extract the PNG images for my clock to use as a guideline to making your own
5. Make your own PNG images
6. Use CFC_GUI again to insert your new images into the manila files
Note: My cab consists of 8 manila files:
4 files for the 4 sections of the clock (2 up and 2 down)
1 background for the clock (see attached screenshot)
1 file each for AM and PM
1 file with the numerals
If anyone is interested in seeing some of the other 'Glass Clocks' I made, you can find them all in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=650245
Have fun and good luck!

nice job mate, keep it up, my advice is to take a cab from the site, slider, clock or what ever you want to customize, extract it with wince cab manager (the best cab management software, in my opinion) and manila editor and photoshop can do right about everything to a image the important thig if you take part of some one elses work or inspire to ask permision and mention that you have inspired from that persons work
sorry for the confusion. the green clock and slider is what I,ve done, the lead clock is by dr ammar-jaguaralani.
Ok so I've modified the image files from a slider cab, converted back to QTC's and overwritten them back into the unzipped cab file.
How do I make it all back into a cab?
Got Quickcab.......select all the files from the left window but where to select to put them in the right window?

I thought that was where they always went, but last night I made my cab but when I installed it, nothing changed, tried 2 or 3 times too??
Please take a look at the screenshot below, is that correct? From there just go to "Create cab" right? Or am i missing something?
Thanks again for answering.

Did you extract your manila files from another .cab? (If so, have you maybe done it via winzip or something similar?)
The files you copied don't have the correct names... (manila files are always named "xxxx_manila")
If you give me all the files, I could make the .cab for you.
Otherwise, just PM me and we'll discuss this further

I assume they come in zip files. The M2DC (customizerz) should recognize it anyway. So just add theme and look for the zip file wherever its downloaded. Hope that helps

You can't just download the files you need M2DC first. Download the customizer, open it, use restore to back up your default theme and then use add, to add new themes.

rename .zip to .m2dct
Hi
If you get a .zip file with lots of pictures in then don't unzip it, simply rename the extension to .m2dct for example rename example.zip to example.m2dct If you're using Windows you may need to un-check "Hide extensions for known file types" in folder options.
You should then copy your .m2dct files to "\Storage Card\Program Files\M2DC" or "\Program Files\M2DC" depending on where you installed the Manila2D Customiser. You should now see the name and possibly a screen shot of the theme appear in the M2DC Theme tab.
Hope that helps

I haven't seen any alternative (that's why I ended up doing my own!).
If you want to make your own, you basically only have to replace the image in the file '0eea1f69_manila' in your windows folder.
To extract the image from the manila file, you will need something like CFC_GUI.
Then you modify the .png image you get (keeping the same size and positioning) using Photoshop or something.
Then you replace the original image in the manila file with your new one (again using CFC_GUI).
Finally, you need to copy your new '0eea1f69_manila' file back into your windows folder. There's a trick to this if you haven't done it before, so you may need help with this. Alternatively, you can create a .cab file consisting only of your new manila file and install it that way. I've added my .cab file (to change the image to the one in the screenshot above) to this post for your reference. This will definitely work with Manila version 2.5.1920 and probably with other versions too, but I don't know that for sure. Install as you would any .cab file. Uninstall using Settings/Remove Programs.
Good luck!
If you want, this is mine:

Very Basic Question
Up to now I have only "consumed" as a user, but I start to dig deeper...
Basic Question: The manila files contain only pictures (skins, buttons etc.)? There is no code in?
So if I modify one of the manilas, I just change the appearance of that specific part of the screen?
If anyone could confirm or explain the function of the manila files, would be great.

copy your manila files in a folder on your pc and scan the folder with this
http ://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=464984 (remove the space before the : to get the link to work) and it'll give you the name of the files and therefore their functionality

I'm trying to change the analogue clock on my HD2 but it won't change from the default clock (well sort of i've managed to change it from a square one to a round one), i've followed the instructions on moving the file into the device-windows folder.
but there's a file in there with the same name already and it doesn't replace the original file, if i try to delete the file 20F62884_manila it doesn't give me the option, the delete and rename options are not selectable, they are on the file i've pasted into the windows folder but not the original file, is it protected in any way ?
I'm using the file explorer that came with the Elegancia V8.0 Rom is this ok or do i need to use something else...
Many thanks...

Many manila fills are protect to overwrite, changing or deleting!
The easiest way is to use a cab file! It will overwrite and it give you the possibility to uninstall so you get back to the original one!
Ore maybe you can simply used a program called CfC GUI!! Perhaps the most simply way if it is fore personal used!
more explication ore where to find it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470798
The file explorer which is on your device will not overwrite protected files.
But, search for "Total Commander" for Windows Mobile - it´s not the "freshest" software, but free, and it *does* overwrite protected files.
To make it more finger friendly, just change to large icons view!
Or, after all, as the previous poster mentioned, use cab files - those will automatically install and overwrite files.
Cheers for the reply's i've used a cab and yep changed the clock, but most of the clocks i've really liked are not as cab's so will try the total commander now, again thanks for the help, much appreciated...
Buggar even with total commander it says unable to delete file
If you will I make a cab for you! Perhaps the easy's way!!

Np mate; We are here to help each other!!!
I found something in the forums, but oly cabbed dialers which eat almost 5MB storage, so I simply edited the dialer pics in windows folder.
Just copy them into windows folder and accept overwriting, you will gain 1 MB of free storage, thanks to lnando84 for images compression.
I still need to edit some files , but at the moment the dialer is as in images below
If my memory is correct sir, you can find the missing images in the phcanImages.dll file.
Hope this can helps you.
I don't know how to manage .dll files.
I red some tutorials but at this moment I have no time to make practice, if someone could kindly extract the images and post them here, I could edit them and repost to rebuild the .dll
you can use a app called "Resource Hacker" to extract the bmp-file from your dll. after editing this image, just import it using Resource Hacker and save your new file. after that you'll have to singn your new dll (just search xdadev for signing dll-files).
Here in attachment you can find your needed files.
And to be useful to you I have extract all .bmb files from the specific .dll file.
Hope this helps you.
thanks, lot of things inside.. I've just made a try with the button that was missing, it's difficult to identify the gray frame..
in the rar file there are 2 pics (both in bmp and png cause I don't know which is the better format) .
Bitmap_11/png11 is from phcanImages2.dll , Bitmap_12/png12 is from phcanImages.dll.
Need to rebuild the dll files and test if I'm on the right way
thanks to kurt-willems I made a test, edited images above are ok, just have a matter of file size.
Now I need to rebuild the dll files without increase their size
here the dll files I rebuilt, I need help to check them cause I'm not able to sign them.
if I replace the stock files with those unsigned I lose storage (seems the OS have memory of the original files somewhere) and have a weird displaying of dialer bottom bar.
EDIT: if you're going to test this post dll on the phone , make first a sistem backup cause, once installed , overwriting them with the stock one will not give you back free storage .

unforunately no, I firstly have to learn manage dll files to complete the black buttons, and the incoming call screen is quiet complicated for me.. i made an attempt some time ago: there are 2 or 3 bmp image that are overlayed to create that background, and there is the caller name text that has to be changed from black to white and I don't have any idea where it is
at this moment you can use files in post #1 and have black keyboard+back button as in image without sacrifice free storage.

No problem, I swapped out the 2 images you provided with the original one's from the dll's. I see what you mean about the storage because they did increase in size with just switching 1 image in each when there are about 20 bmps in each dll. Here are the one's i edited so u can see the difference.
