Xda Developers Palringo Group

Do we have one already? If not I've created xda-developers on Palringo so we can get together and discuss all things HTC.

Once you're in with your client of choice go to "Groups" and "Join a Group" then type in "xda-developers" to join and start chatting.
If you're on your mobile and don't have a good data tarif you might want to use wifi; photo-spam will ensue!

I installed Palringo but it will NOT uninstall properly, and now i receive an error each time I boot up my Hermes

I've never had the inclination to uninstall it, but that's a bit irritating.
I imagine the error is Palringo attempting to run at startup? In which case you can manually go into the start up items folder of your device and remove the shortcut.
The folder path is \Windows\StartUp

not been in here for ages, but hanging in the palringo groups is pretty good, what did I do before Palringo ?

dont use it but will check it out if its got anything to do wit my ppc.

PTT just seems to send a WAV. Can it not do proper PTT even Palringo to Palringo?

Palringo is the second most-used app on my phone (Opera Mini is #1). The recent update that adds the "chat" menu is a huge improvement, since I can actually have multiple IM windows open now. I don't like the fact that my connections are proxied through palringo servers, but it's still the best free IM app I've found.
BTW, even the JavaME version works on the Kaiser in JBED. Don't know why anyone with a Kaiser would want to use it, but it's still cool. I used the Samsung version.
I just joined the group, so I might bug some of you just to try out the PTT and other features I've never used before.

palringo wont stay open
ive been using palringo for a while now and i like it but recently its been acting odd. when i flash a new rom and i open palringo its all good. after it updates the software, palringo wont stay open. i open it and as fast as it opens, it closes.
anyone else?

is this really the main room? or is there a bigger one?

palringo is the best multi server IM App??? what do you guys think?

Divx Player, yahoo messenger & googletalk for Windows Mobile

1) I installed divX player 0.89 for windows mobile in my TC. But when i am playing a video it is saying error in audio.... Is there any where i can get some other player which can play divx video in TC.
2) When i trying to uninstall a program in TC using remove program functionality it is not removing the icon from programs folder. How to delete the icon.
3) Any where i can get google talk & yahoo messneger for TC, where ic an chat and talk.....?

Any idea abt the 3 rd one....

Also, I installed the video player mentioned in the link. When i played a video, video is fine, But there is no audio. It is saying Player:MPEG4 AAC Audio decoder not included! It was removed from the official install package becuase of intellectual property considerations.. Now what should i do?

One more qn. How to make default player as windows media player. Because, after i unistalled the pocketmedia, still all the copied to the phone is having icon as that of pocketmedia attached to it.. Anywhere completely to remove it..

I think the cheapest option is Mundu IM.

Not free but not very expensive either. And the license is not time-limited contrary to other similar products.

No, the very best option is to try Palringo, it's completly free, it has an autoupgrade option an can connect to any kind of messenger, from msn, to yahoo and google talk, ICQ, etc... without any ports restriction.

I think Fring is the better choice. In the wiki it talks about all the different Voip options and it says Fring is about the best. You can use it for Google, Yahoo, MSN and some others.

I tried Fring.. Everything is good except for onething.. There is quite some delay when i am talking / listening to other chatter. May be it works like that. I am having a touch cruise. Is that anything to do with that phone. I am a newbie so many things i am just learning...
Again i tried to install palringo. Everything went clean. I created an account in palringo. Tried to connect in my phone but it is trying to connect for a long time..... Please tell me is there anything more i need to do?

You might try JiveTalk from BeeJive.
It's in early developement (alpha) for PPC, but I use it on BlackBerry for a long time, and it's great. I use it (alpha) on PPC too, and I'm already satisfied...

For those of you having issues upgrading to the more stable and faster WM6.1 because of incompatibility to IM+ instant msging.... feel comfortable to flash now. Shapeservices just release an upgrade v4.55 that works great with 6.1.

there are no faq so I cant find out if QIP uses text, or internet. Anyone know?

This QiP thing only works with ICQ, so its useless

Also IM+ has a version that works with Lotus Sametime, which is what my company currently uses, so it's a product we're licensed for on a corporate level. QIP looks nice but doesn't cover everything.

Yes it does and working so well more than u expected. In addition, It has ICQ, google talk, hotmail... and 3 more i dont remember.
BTW, in my opinion IM+ is the best chat software for PPC. Ver 4.55 is compatible with WM6.1, I've been using it for a week with latest Dutty 6.1 rom.
I have its cab file, if you want me to share I will upload it.

I believe you have to purchase it, so don't share it. On the main website, there is a trial, so that'll be good enough.

Cab file would be great!

I'm using duttys rom, and have used a few duttys 6.1 roms. IM+ works fine with them all frmo my side.

He's talking about QIP, which is freeware for WM. I downloaded it, but have no clue how to add other accounts... thier website doesnt really help.

Palringo is cool, free and works on every 6.1 ROM I've tried.

They added the support for multiple conversations, now it has what I need.
It has a nicer interface then IM+ too, and you can send audio and pictures (itll upload to a palringo server where the receiver can click the link and see). It is really nice!

I like it.. the one downside is that I can not get it to initiate a data connection by itself. I have to open up opera mini, load a page, then palringo will connect using the connection opera opened.
It has become the messenger of choice for me on my PC, for the time being, works nicely through my corporate firewall.

fixed the connection problem..after last rom flash medianet proxy was turned on. turned it off and all was well.

Windows Live Messenger UK

Hi, i have searched the dream forum but have not found any conclusive answers to my specific problem. I know that T-Mobile do not allow MSN/ Windows Live Messenger in the UK and as such do not bundle the G1 with it. However it is bundled with the American G1 as far as I am aware and was wondering if there was a way for somebody to upload the application so that i could install it manually, an .apk maybe. I have tried all of the other messenger substitutes and have found them to be satisfactory but have individual downfalls. Since i have used the Windows Live application on the Xperia I have realised how good mobile MSN can be and would like the true experience if at all possible.

i guess the application is actually shipped with every build, but you will need a non-uk sim to activate it.

Please post the apk,worth a try

well i don't really know anything about the application itself since i've never had it, but is there a way to get the application from the phone and upload it or is there any source code that an application can be built with?

I would reccommend the program Hi MSN! from the Market. I used to use the "native" IM app, and have to say that I like Hi MSN! more. I am also a UK user

I've tried Hi MSN but i always get connection issues. Most of the time it does not connect at all and other time it disconnects whilst i am logged in without it telling me. I have also tried Meebo and few others but even when they work they do not give me all of the features i would like. The windows messenger on the Xperia is very much like the computer version and i would like something like that.

AFAIK, the bundled MSN messenger use text(!) to send and receive messages if you're not on wifi - unless you have an unlimited sms/text plan, you might be up for a nasty surprise.
I too use Hi MSN, and for me it works flawlessly.

er why not try meebo, it's on the market and a free download. It a very good msn, aim yahoo client. Been using it for a long long time no had any issues at all. i m also in UK

I had it on one build, it wouldn't sign in for me

My gripe with Meebo (as with Palringo et al) is that it's not an MSN (or Yahoo or aim) client - It's a Meebo client, and you connect to MSN/Yahoo/whetever thru their service. An added layer I'd rather be without.

Yes i agree with that but i also think that while Hi MSN is probably the best version out, it still lacks some features that are already available in mobile MSN applications.

IM program & emoticons in SMS

Two questions:
1. Looking for a IM program for the Diamond2, like IM+ all-in-one messenger or Fring... but one that's free, and is finger friendly. Also, fring doesn't work on the Diamond2, so that's a problem too.
2. Is there a way to use emoticons in SMS? They appear as textual letters now, and not as a graphic... this works well in most phones.

I'm using Palringo, but it saves your credentials on their servers, as well as message history. Privacy is not their strong side...
