I'm glad I'm not the only one! Evertime I read the title I want to scream "Of course it has video's you just fookin told us that! Aaarrrggghhhhh!" What can I say I have anger management issuse
But will say is good to see the updates, unlockr.com is my favourite site for rooting phones and always recommend people go there. Thanks for the updates.

As useful as this is, everything tells me that this has no place in the dev forum...
By the way, since there are different versions of the Dream/G1 internationally, I think it would be useful to note more clearly which version your guides are for.
For example: DREA210, DREA110, DREA100 variations
Sometimes there needs to be goldcard if the G1 instructions are followed for a different variant. Other than that this is useful stuff.

Honestly this is what I find with most guides out there, or video guides. I remember some guy on Android and Me was giving a lesson on how to update the G1/Dream radio, but forgets to mentions about the chances of bricking your phone and stuff with wrong combinations. Then what irked me most was what he said next, "Now you can flash whatever SPL you want." I'm pretty sure that's an invitation to a brick.

The WIKI Ideas/Suggestion Thread

Hi,
Next to making ROMs I want to try and work on the wiki some more to make it THE prophet information source on basic questions.
I made this thread for users to suggest stuff that they think should be covered.
This is NOT a thread for asking questions about your prophet.
Thanks
Hi Jester
Wiki forums has pros and cons. Reading 20 pages of mixed text is not by far the best way to learn anything, the main problem for me is to distingish good info from bad one.
The 'Expert Selection': For each thread I would like to see only what an expert/senior member has selected. This filter can be multiple and tematic; the same 'expert' can select only some posts an 'rename' the sub-thread; and of course the same thread could be filtered by two or more members.
This way i can have the same point of view of them, and this is important for me..
Hi Jester,
Thanks for the big support on the Prophet and releasing ROM versions!
In the Forums there are many questions about how to upgrade your (for example) Dutch ROM to a WWE, what to do, maybe this is also something to add to the Wiki.
The Wiki side sould be rich of information about how to upgrade the ROM, what are usefull programms, free or payed, where does ipl and SPL stand for, What are the latest versions.
Groet,
TheTeek
Hi Jesterz,
Thanks a ton for your ROMs and your efforts!
One of the most eagerly sought after info is ROM editing specifically for G4 roms (specially again for Prophet).
Can you help in consolidating the tools (along with usage tips) to modify ROMs to achieve the following:
1. Steps to upgrade only the OS to whichever ROM OS you want.
2. Steps to increase the pagepool to X [I understand the device runs faster on an increased pagepool], but I am not sure of the ideal size to be kept. I got some details from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283280&highlight=pagepool
4. Steps to remove MS Office, voice dial and other applications from the rom and add a few apps. Will also need help in adding few apps like resco explorer and some registry hacks into the ROM.
5. Steps to move some programs from programs to system (for e.g smsdeliveryfix)
Am sure others can also add to this request.
Thanks.
Hi Jesterz,
thanks for this thread, I beleve there are a lot of stupid questions because a lot of information in the wiki are too much generic and the people have fear to make some errors (IS NOT YOUR FAULT because the newbie are sometime very newbie).
My dream wiki is:
- more specific
- with new information
For example, if you check the main procedure to update the rom, there are some step not very clear:
1) ***
If it states: "Could not update itsutils.dll to the current version, maybe it is in use ?" Do the following :
Copy the cab's from the Utils folder in the Lokiwiz03a.zip file to your Prophet and execute them.
(There are two files : "Cert_SPCS.cab" and "EnableRapi.cab")
This is not clear. A lot of user wrote me in private asking if you need to do a soft reset (or no, or an hard reset) after that.
2) ***
Sometime after that the itsutils.dll error is still alive. What the people have to do?
3)***
In some rom, you don't have to unlock the cid... right? But this is not on the wiki.
4) ***
There are some question where there are not answer, like this one in the ROM DUMPT.
"if you want backup your own rom, you have to do the unlock cid procedure and update the rom with another one. But if you do that you lost your own rom!!! So, why there is a Dump rom procedure, if you can not do that with your original one?"
5) ***
I would lik see in the wiky a tread with the list of the BEST ROM and the update.
6) ***
There are some etc...
I think what would be a *very* good piece of info for newbies is what are all the tools you guys use (cert.cab, etc etc....) and what each does to some degree....
as a newb myself, I find it *very* daunting and very scary to see lots of stuff posted on the forums that say "How To: Copy fileA and fileB to device, run fileC.exe on computer, then execute fileD on device, then wait, and poof! you're done". I'd be nice to at least know that the heck each of the components are and the purpose (even if it's very technical) of each one.
Also, if it's possible, list off any interdependencies these tools have. There are too many "half-instructions" floating around and it's really difficult to determine whether the user needs to do anything before hand before following the instructions.
*lastely*, Can we get a guide that lists off all the pros and cons for each of the custom ROMs that are getting posted. It's a little tough for newbies to know what are all the pros and cons for each ROM. Yes, we know there are pros and cons and nothings perfect, but *what* are the bugs? and what are the features? At least that way we can decide for ourselves whether or not the ROM will work for us...
I'm only into day 2 of all of this so I apologize if what I'm suggesting sounds stupid.
Thanks
Hello all,
Jesterz, thanks you for your investisment in the forum.
Some suggestions about the wiki.
One of the main issues for upgrading a rom is to have a clear view of what is going on.
There are many threads discussing different roms.
It should be grateful to have one main page giving an overview of every live rom and a page for each rom where the author can put a link and also give the current status of his rom and known issues. So I join to Mr Yellow for this.
It should be something very basic, not as far as an Issue tracking page (ie http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MPA)
By now, whenever I want to update a rom, I have to read the entire post...
One solution can be, for each cooking rom version, adding a text file that describe everything to know.
Of course, a howto for cooking rom and useful mistakes can be also interesting.
cheers
Andre
Hi Guys - and yes, thanks for all the time & investment made here.
I'm a fairly new member, and one thing I think would benefit the WIKI is an idiots guide or introduction.
I found the the wiki a bit tricky in so much that it starts at a fairly high level and misses the basics
Whats an AKU and why might I prefer a new one ?
What extra features can I get with a new rom ?
Why might I need newer radio drivers ?
Stuff like that.
Also, a glossary would go down reall well.

I agree with the above......more of a beginner area with more explaination
Not an idiot guide but something more for the leaner who want to be experts like most here
Get to it
I think these are all great suggestions. The Prophet wiki is looking pretty sparse at the moment. So why doesn't everyone start editing it, rather than just talking about it?
Cheers,
uayeb
Hello
read it !
agree!
Shall i make a tutorial for changing the case? I know there is one already in another forum(modaco). But i want one on xda-developers?
the more the merrier!
I think possibly the most useful thing would be 'How to recover Prophet stuck in Bootloader'. I seem to telling people how to do it most days and sometimes more than once a day...
I'll happily write a 'How To' if required.

You know, that's what's awesome about the wiki... you *CAN* go ahead and write whatever you want. It only takes like 5-10 minutes to understand the syntax of wiki-code... create a new page, write your stuff down, and start formatting. Bam, you've created a wiki page that everyone can use. Announce to the fourm that you've done so and you're done!
Then you can start insulting newbies that complain about getting stuck in boot loader that they should search and read the wiki! It feels really good!

You don't upload anything. You can edit each page like it was a forum post. there's special syntax for lists, bullet points, headlines, links etc... but if you want to create a page, all you need is a title and that's it. Everything is done on the serverside.
The easiest way to start is to pick a page, click the edit button at the bottom, then add a new link to a page using the syntax [new page title]. when you save it, "new page title" becomes a link to a new page where you can create a new page and add more content there.
Give it a shot. Don't be afraid to break stuff.. you can always look back on old versions of the page and reverse any changes.

The Ultimate Guide for Choosing a WM6 ROM

This guide is designed to be read by *everyone* - but especially those who are new to ROM flashing\cooking
If you can't be bothered reading my entire post, at least look at the steps.
And if your *really* lazy - just jump to the bottom where I have a link - though I STRONGLY recommend AGAINST doing that...
*Can a Mod please sticky this*
Okay, so the guide:
1. Regsiter for Xda-Developers
Always a good thing...
2. (Part A) Lurk\Read the Xda-Developers forums for at least a month
What????
I know this may sound crazy, but it will benefit you. The purpose of this is so that you learn all the terminology, understand what each ROM does and become knowledgeable enough to be able to decide what to do if something goes wrong.
Make sure you read all the posts, and dig deep into the older threads from this section
2. (Part B) Read the Xda-Developers wiki
http://wiki.xda-developers.com
Read the entire HTC-Universal from start to end - even if you don't understand it
3. Learn some terminology
By now you should know:
What the Bootloader mode it, and how to get into it
How to 'unbrick' your Universal
How to flash you Universal if your PC is running VIsta
How to unlock the extended rom for your Universal
What the difference between a ROM and a Kitchen is
Who built the first Kitchen for the Universal
And, most important: How to use the search function
(btw - I will update this list as recommended - so keep an eye on it)
4. Read the Wiki (again)
Now that you know some terminology - read the wiki again.
If the wiki mostly makes sense - goto step 5
If the wiki still has some confusing terms goto step 2 (all parts)
5. Prioritise what you need
So, you've spent at least a month reading the forums - and you think your skilled enough to handle flashing your PDA and dealing with it bricking itself.
Now you need to decide which ROMs to try (and yes, that is a plural)
Decide which things you need the most (eg Wifi, MMS, Video Call, etc) and see which ROMs have these things
If you have a number of ROMs to try - goto step 6
If the only ROMs you have in your list are WM5 ones - install them!
6. Set aside a few weekends and test all the editions in your list
This is my main point: no one can tell you which is the best ROM - you just have to try them.
This is why we're Xda-Developers, not Xda-Users - the core of this community is playing and experimenting with our devices.
7. Report bugs to Xda-Bugs
Little do people realise that there is actually a Bug-tracker for the Xda-Developers at: http://xdabugs.vidmes.com
So, if you're smart - you'll take my advice and do the above steps
If you're not smart (but incredibly lazy) then use this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308461
Advice for (Senior) Members
When somebody creates a thread that is a n00b question, do the following:
Give them a link to a search (or just the search keywords)
DO NOT KEEP POSTING - Let the thread sink to where it belongs
Disclaimer: Please PM me all flames - leave the forum for praising me
Another great post
Well done m8, another great post from yourself!
It is a shame that the forum is becoming flooded with posts that have been answered so many times before.
Use the search people please!
Leo and I are working on a updated Rom, we should be able to release fairly soon. VC work has been put on the backburner for now so that we can get the Rom out as soon as possible.
Cheers,
Beast
So which ROM is the fastest, working Wifi, video call and least bugs????
LOL.. aside from a few typos, I love this guide.
nice post !
you should add in the poll : "this post should be sticked"
Please can yuo are to be helping me in what is teh actually best ROM I should be using on the HTC Apache I have been having from ebay though please?
TIA

Seeing as Midget has a computer now (I presume, since he did say he bought the parts), I thought I may as well resurrect this thread
After using the ROM for a while I have come across 1 problem: Outlook has no profile for MMS, nor anywhere I can set options for MMS
Is this just me or is this a problem?
Thanks

Need help upgrading my Tilt

I have had a Tilt on the at&t network since it came out and I love it. A gentleman came into my store a while back with a Tilt and had the Touch Flo Cube running on his Tilt. He told me to come to this website and that someone on here would be able to help me do the necassary upgrades. His phone also ran streaming videos off of youtube and other websites. I am very very interested in both of these applications and really would like to get them running on my Tilt safely. The only problem is that I am a complete phone upgrading Virgin and everywhere I seem to look there are warnings to not install software unless I know what I am doing. I am scared to do these updates by myself because A, I have never done them before, and B I have already broken one Tilt due to dropping it in the snow five days ago. I really don't want to have to replace another one if this goes wrong.
If someone could please take the time out of their day to help me with these upgrades, then I would be eternaly grateful! You can PM me to set up a time and or a way for us to easily communicate if you would like to do so. To anyone that does, I want to thank you in advance for your time and for your concern.
Thanks guys(and girls)
Jeremiah
Very easy to do those.
First back up all your data.
Second CID unlock your phone so you can flash any roms you want.(caution-CID unlock might lock your phone if it's sim unlocked)
Third choose the rom you want. There are lots of great roms and great chefs. You just have to flashed them see which roms and cook is compatible for you.
Fourth just restore back all your data.
Hope this helps. Everything is in wiki and stickies. Just spend some times before you mess up with your rom since if something goes wrong, you will brick your phone.
I can tell you that the very first thing you will be told by everyone here is read. Read the Wiki on this site for the Kaiser. Read the sticky threads in this forum. Read the threads on the apps and ROMs you want to install when you decide which ones you want. You want to probably spend at least three or four days...preferably a week or more...just gathering knowledge. If you take a little time and figure out what you want and read up on how to do it and what kind of problems you are likely to run into and how to fix them....well....upgrading is a simple thing.
Until the end of October, I had never done this either. But I read the site for about three weeks after getting my Tilt. At the end of that time I decided to take the plunge. I haven't hit a single snag that I couldn't easily and quickly fix. Why? I read a lot and by the time I got ready the vast majority of problems had been found and fixed.
So my advice is take some time and read about all the things you need to know: HardSPL, any sticky with Tilt or AT&T in the title, Radios (because any non-AT&T ROM needs a different radio**), Kaiser Wiki, and threads on the ROM you want and apps you want to install.
**Note: asking why you have no sound in ANY thread after flashing your Tilt will most likely result in scathing responses as it has been asked and answered about 2309478320984731209184837 times already.
You have to spend some time reading all the stickies, threads at the top of this page learning about how to do this stuff. It doesn't take long and it's pretty basic as people have written instructions very clearly on how to do these things, just for the simple fact that you don't need to be PM'ed on how to do this stuff, you just read.
I think you made this almost exact post in the modify/upgrading/unlocking section and received some responses.
But no, cube navigation does not give you iphone effect in web pages.
You need to search/google things such as Ftouchflo config, kona's cube, etc etc. Have to read all this stuff as you will then be able to absorb all of this information for when things come up that you need to fix/change.
Oh and I don't think he really needs to flash his rom if all he want's is cube navigation. Should just need to install ftouchflo config and a kona cube .cab
Thanks guys.
I did post a similar thread in the Upgrading section and they told me to post my thread here, so that is why I did it.
The main thing I am looking to do is to be able to run videos off youtube and various other sites. Does my Tilt need to be unlocked in order to do that? My Sim Card is not unlocked, so this should not hurt anything when unlocking the phone correct?
If you are using your data connection to browse the internet and want to look at videos, i hope you have a data plan that can handle it or have some sort of media package with at&t that i dont know much about.
If you just want to watch videos on a wireless home or work lan connection, then I think there should just be htc streaming media player on your device.. i don't know why it wouldn't be included. Maybe it's in this list of cabs
Or you can search/google "tcpmp and flashbundle" and install those. It is a media player.
But again, just search/browse. All questions have been asked before and answered, so it's best to look for them yourself so you gain a broader range of how things work, trust me, makes it a lot easier.

and no i dont think the lock status of your phone has anything to do with surfing the web and watching a video off of youtube through the core pocket media player and flash bundle.
Yes, I do have a Data Plan on my Tilt. I do know a little bit about phones I work for at&t so I should. They just don't teach us how to unlock devices and install 3rd party softwares onto the devices.
I will look through the lists and see what I can find. Thanks again.

Very informative and well put together.
Even though I've posting for sometime now, I am new to the Kaiser and somewhat lost in the processes of flashing a new Rom. I've read all of the tutorials and still my problem is not clear to me. I have no PC available to me at the moment and was wondering if I can use this method to first install hard spl and them fash a new rom using the sd method, found in this forum. Sorry for the dumb question but as of yet I've not found the answer.
thanks in advance.

No, do not attempt to perform HardSPL from an SD card. In fact don't attempt to do anything without a PC around.
Creating a new page on the wiki is as easy as creating a link on existing page and then clicking on that link and editing the content for the new page.
*edit* For a better explanation, see the wiki for help: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=AddingPages
As you've seen with your other threads, this thread too will be lost. Wiki entries are easy to find and able to be edited by all.
This thread should exist as the discussion thread for the wiki page for questions & comments, not the main text.
Great guide that really explains what spl is about, like you say should be on the Wiki.
Bengalih, perhaps you could add some info on CID unlocking - this also leads to confusion when reading the threads. Like once CID unlocked do you need hardspl? will flashing the wwe spl make the device CID locked again? Is there a diference between CID and Super CID unlock? What exactly does CID do? also once SIM unlocked does it ever get locked again - etc!
bengilih, unlike i, you must have more than a high school education, i have read all you threads, they are, IMHO, the most easy to understand and read.
i now know more now today than i did yesterday., you have taken what has already been posted and putting it in one place makes it so much easier for guys like me. all the people you give credit to do an incredible job, but sometimes i do not understand. you make it easy for the everyday "Joe" like me. thank you,

Ok thanks _Alex_ I will try to put this in the Wiki soon, along with my other threads.
To clarify, I just go to a page that I want to link ot my page, create a link to a Non-Existent page, and then click on that link and it will create the new page?
As I have explained in the past I use wikis for reference but have had an aversion to using them to post information (hey, I don't like other people messing up my hard work ). So I guess I don't know the basics there...
Also, is there a particular page that you feel I should begin the linkage to?

bengilih, unlike i, you must have more than a high school education, i have read all you threads, they are, IMHO, the most easy to understand and read.
i now know more now today than i did yesterday., you have taken what has already been posted and putting it in one place makes it so much easier for guys like me. all the people you give credit to do an incredible job, but sometimes i do not understand. you make it easy for the everyday "Joe" like me. thank you,
happy to be using bengilih's

Ok thanks _Alex_ I will try to put this in the Wiki soon, along with my other threads.
To clarify, I just go to a page that I want to link ot my page, create a link to a Non-Existent page, and then click on that link and it will create the new page?
As I have explained in the past I use wikis for reference but have had an aversion to using them to post information (hey, I don't like other people messing up my hard work ). So I guess I don't know the basics there...
Also, is there a particular page that you feel I should begin the linkage to?
thx again

You got the jist of it
The style and formatting isn't always straight forward, so just view the source of another wiki page (by clicking edit) and borrow the wiki code.

I utilize the wiki often. However, I do not believe n00bs or the sp00ns do. They at least use the search function, which is unfortunate because the search function does not direct searchers to the wiki.

I agree. I will keep all my posts where the are AND post them in the Wiki. Once they are in the Wiki I will update the posts to say to make sure to check the Wiki for the most up-to-date info, and provide the link.

I didn't expect this thread to be updated so quickly. I actually edited the original post to include:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=AddingPages
There are also links/backlinks to other wiki documentation pages should you have any formatting questions. As others have mentioned, most people find it easier to just edit an existing page and see what formatting was used there.

Most of the wiki pages remain un-vandalized, but on occasion, people put all sorts of junk up. Another good thing is, the wiki stores previous revisions (up to 2+ months worth or 30+ amount of edits, whatever is greater), so anything can be recovered, even your own misedits (which occur from time to time).

Create links on the main Kaiser page, as most things are linked there and then create Q/A links in the Kaiser FAQ, as we try to direct n00bs to search terms there first.
Hope this helps!
thank you
at least now iv an idea of what I was doing all this while

Please Help out a Newbie -

Hi guys im new to the forum and new to winmo. I recently purchased an HTC touch pro from verizon, and contrary to most reviews I like it so far. Anyway I need to do quite a few things, and dont know where to get started.
I need to:
- Update the phone (if i install a new ROM will this update the phone?) If not how/where do i get the updates?
- Install a new ROM - do i need to do this? what does it do which one and where?
- I need a youtube app - where/which?
- I would like any web browsers you think are better then opera 9.5 ( I heard Fennic was fast?)
- I also need step by step instructions to doing all of this please. sorry
PS: Do i need to install the software that comes with phone? if I do, or if I do any of the above, doese it waver the 30 day trial period?
Thanks for any help! sorry its so much!

First off - Why do you feel you have to install a new ROM - you say you are happy with the device. Are you saying this because many people here are flashing different ROM's to their devices so you think you should. You just got your device - you should really learn how to use it first and figure out what it can do for you. Afterwards if you feel you want to flash a new ROM, than the ROM you choose is based on your needs. Follow the advice already given to you and start reading (LOTS) If you don't you might kill your device before really getting to enjoy it.
Opera is a good browser, I have used it - but I am now using skyfire. I just find it quicker. Haven't used Fennic so can't say how it compares
Youtube app - You can watch Youtube using Skyfire - but there are several Youtube apps available throughout these forums. If you do a simple search with Keywod "youtube" you should be able to find some rather easily. I don't use any though because I can watch them though Skyfire.
You probably won't find anyone giving you step by step instructions for unlocking, flashing and installing apps etc... you have already been pointed to where you need to go to learn this for yourself so do some reading. If you have questions after having done some reading about something specific, then ask and people will help but not many people will hold your hand through this.
If you try returning your device within the 30 days with a custom (non official) ROM - you might have some troubles. You will have to reflash your stock ROM back to your device and lock it again I think.
I don't know what you mean - Do I have to install software that comes with the phone. There are many apps available in this forum which you can easily install (many are in .cab format for easy installation. Some in .exe format requiring installation from your computer to your device though activesinc and some are just (place on your device and run it) Take into consideration which version of WM you have on your device (some are specific to WM 6 some to 6.1 and some to 5. Also take into consideration your screan. VGA or WVGA or QVGA etc.. as running an app with resolution different than your device and it will not display properly. If you install an app and it does not work properly or you just don't like it - go to settings - System - Remove programs and uninstall the app that way (works only for cabs or exe's installed) The others you just navigate to where you placed the app and delete it. You cannot delete applications hard coded into your ROM (from what I have read)
There is much to learn in these forums and it is up to you to do some reading and learning and figure out for yourself what it is you really want on your device. As you can see from my signature - I am still running my stock WM 6 ROM.
If I sound like I am being harsh I appologize; however, I must point you to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/faq.php
These are the rules and you need to read the rules - I notice that you created three seperate threads asking pretty much the same thing. This was the first thread started and was in the right section.
You created another one asking the exact same things after not having gotten the response you were looking for (bad move and a violation of the rules) and you created a third asking the same thing but not in quite as much detail (violation of the rules)
We are (most of us) are helpful community; however, you must do some work yourself to learn as much as you can and this will require lots and lots of reading. If you don't do the reading and learning for yourself (you just will never understand your device and what it is capable of and your next post will be titled
"Help - I bricked my device" - You don't want this and neither do we. Read and if you need clarification (because it is a lot to learn and can be confusing) then ask questions about your specific uncertainties. We will be glad to help (except I can't help with flashing ROM's because I havn't ever done it yet) lol
Good luck and enjoy your new device
thanks for all the help man, i should have done more research, the wiki is kinda confusing to me though and i wasnt sure of the different procedures to flashing etc. sorry. One question though, I was looking at downloading a pack of apps from bwone.com called the bowman pack pro, i cant really find much info on it, besides the apps it contains and therefor am unsure of how to install it.

I checked out the website you mentioned and checked out hte Bowman pack pro - Sorry that I really can't tell you much about it or the apps included; however, if it is completely free - give it a shot - it is probably a cab install which is easy enough to install and uninstall. If it is not free or only trial version then use the search function under your name up top to try to find prorams which are equivelant but free on this site. You really should be able to find most things you need through this site. I don't want to discredit the website you mentioned. I have never seen it before so I will leave that at that. I know this site and there is much available for everyone here.
You want cool music players seach S2P or Mortplayer or TCPMP or the new Nitrogen player (all free) or core player (pay) all are really good in my opinion.
TCPMP also plays videos really well (as does core player but Core Player has other codecs I think) There is a special version of TCPMP to run on your device I believe - Use search above.
Check out development and hacking section of this forum for all your application needs. Apps do not have to be designed specifically for your device as I have already mentioned above.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=260
This is link to Development and hacking section where you will find most of the apps and ROMS developed for all devices - Remember ROMS are device specific - Apps are not device specific in general - Check out apps that interest you and read the developers description and program details - It should tell you everything you need to know. Read also throughout the thread to see what others say about the program - How it runs on their devices, bugs found, fixes etc....
Like already said before - There is a lot of reading to do - This is a reading forum but it will allow you to enjoy your device to the max.....
Good luck.
