Ok so I got my TP2 and love it so far. I have an issue that I noticed when trying to put my songs back on.
I had a TP1 prior to my TP2 and before I sold the TP1 I used pim back up and activesync to get all my info off the phone so I can transfer it to the tp1. While using pimbackup, I was able to get all my messages and contact from the TP1. BUT, I used activesync to get some music and stuff off of it and when I tried to add the same music folder back onto the TP2, it said there was insufficient space. My TP2 has about 1/3 the programs that were on my TP1 but when I compare they have the same RAM and ROM memory? Why can't I put the same amount of music on my TP2? Is there something I have to do to make it work? Thanks for the help.
The OS could be taking up more space. Why not just buy a 4GB SD for like $10?
Im gonna end up getting a 4gb, but I dont want to have to lose my music everytime i take out my memory card to insert my GPS maps memory card. I put alot of songs on my TP1's internal memory. I just dont understand why this phone is supposed to be way better, but cant hold nearly as many songs as my tp1...
I didn't realize you were using a SD card for maps, because you are right it doesnt make much sense. How much music are you trying to put on (in terms of MB)?
Maybe you want to try SKtools auto clean to save some space too...clears up cached files and whatnot.

Last week I posted about memory storage v programme. After getting v confused about it i uninstalled some apps from the device and instead loaded them to memory card (was this right or wrong?). That left me with 12Mb of storage memory free, I figured that was fine and so left it at that.
This week my device reported critical memory space - storage memory down to 0.12Mb!!!
I have un installed several more apps which I like and use to get to 3.55Mb of storage memory available, but even this is dropping and I dont know why.
Q have I got a virus? How can I tell?
Q Can I tell what is taking up space in memory? If yes how? please dont direct me to the "find" large files as all it shows me is stuff on the storage card.
Q If I install programs to the storage card, do they still take up room in storage memory? If so what benefit do I get from installing to MC?
All help greatly appreciated
Pete
No such thing as a WM virus. Chances are a lot better IE cache ate it all. Try deleting cache files thru IE's menu.
You gain memory by installing to a memory card but if the card comes loose, pops out, you forget it, etc, you're suddenly without your apps. I don't install anything to the card and generally have no problem. You might want to do a search on how to put your IE cache onto the card, tho. That'll solve a lot more problems than installing apps there will.
Try TreeSize
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-treesize-v1-00-03.html
This allows you to check the memory in use on your device.
there are a few known wm virus's but never heard about anybody getting one
think they were just made to show it could be don
the market of mw phones / pda's is much too small still for virus's to find their way to devices
Hey when i first upgraded to WM6 everything went smooth and the time was am pm.. now its 24 hours and i dont know how to change it back.. i was reading it somewhere but i forgot where i read it and there are to much keywords for the search so how do u change the time..? o and also when i try syncing with my Windows media player and my Storage Card(as it says on WMP) it syncs about 11 songs from like 300 that im putting in and then just stops the number varies as it when it stops but it never seems to finish.. its a 2 GB card that i got for free from a friend, maybe its cheap? i dont know, any1 else having this problem?
-thx in advance
o and what is a "Radio"? and should i upgrade?
Changing Time, etc.
Here are some instructions (courtesy of mfrazzz) on how to change the setting for the display of time:
How to not have a 24hour Clock (or how to show AM/PM)
This works on all WM6 roms
Go to Start > Settings > System > Regional Settings
Make sure you have the correct Region selected
Click on the Time tab
Click on the drop down box for Time Style
Notice the little up and down arrows? This is a scrolling region in this dropdown. Click the up arrow a couple of times and you'll find h:mm:ss tt

Concerning your miniSD card...you may have to format your miniSD card using your PC and then put back all of your music back to your miniSD. I recently formatted my card after it started giving me problems and it seems to have improved the speed of accessing the data on the card.
Check out this thread so you can start your learning about radio roms:

As a side note...I seem to have noticed that the mfrazzz Cingular Radio Fix Cab2 enhances each variation of Radio Rom that I have tried. You can get the mfrazzz Cingular Radio Fix Cab2 here:

thx a bunch man
I had several 2GB miniSD cards, and they where all broken once to much data (more than 1GB) is stored on it. Now I just made two partitions on it (using WMStorage) and now my card still works after several months and with a lot of data.
The broken cards weren't cheap once (SanDisk), luckily I got 5 years waranty.
So my advice to anyone using large miniSD cards with this phone: make 2 partitions of 1GB on it...
search this forum for a full explanation on partitioning your card using WM5Storage
yea i think mine is broken because every time i put it in my phone it recognizes that the card is in and tells me if i want to format. i do and it says it did so successfully but it doesnt show up on my phone ..
You're better off either formatting it on your computer if you have a card reader. Also, only partition your card with WM5Storage if you continue to have problems loading more than a gig of data on a 2 gig card. Once you partition it that way, it's permanent and you can't unpartition it if you would want to in the future. I would try just formatting the card in FAT32 first and seeing if you still have problems adding data.
By the way, why do you sync music over to the card? All you have to do is copy it to the card using activesync explore. That should be way easier.
what do u mean? its the same thing. but loading it through Windows media player makes album art and everything appear on the phone so i like it =]
If album art is important to you, then by all means keep doing it that way. It doesn't seem to be working that well for you so I was just trying to help. I would still suggest trying to reformat the card in FAT32 first over partitioning the card out, but that's up to you. Another option would be a program called storagetools. You can get it here - http://www.softwinter.com/storagetools.html, and it's free for non commercial use and there a people on here that swear it's fixed problems like yours for them.
thx man its okay, i tried it today and i included the art and it came out.. so thx its much quicker too. Thx for the help guys =]
Hi all,
sorry if this has been posted already. looked around on google etc but to no avail.
i seem to be always running low on Storage space for installed programs on the internal memory. plenty left on storage card which is fine for installing games and other apps.
however for screen mods and themes etc i.e BSB tweaks, CHT etc. I always install on the phone memory, which is now running very low.
ive tried removing all cabs no longer in use or used rarley and still have little memory, plenty of spare memory under program but not in storage (on main memory)
so im looking for an alternative to the standard 'remove programs' function which will identify what cabs are installed to the internal memory and what is installed to memory card.
or alternativly a way or transfering some of the internal program storage over to the main storage.
this will save me having to do a hard re set to restore all storage space and re install cabs again etc.
im running standard WWE 1.48.405.2 Vodafone ROM, Radio 2.05.51.05_2 on WM6.5, HD2, any help is much appreciated, thanks, Batez
use pocket mechanic to transfer applications (which phone mechanic is able to transfer) from main memory to the storage card. This app is not free though but works a treat. Not sure if there are any free apps out there which can do something similar.
Thanks Mate

Thanks Adamjee, this looks like the app for me should do the trick, and with the other functions available i think its worth the cash, although i may keep searching for a free alternaitve first ill let you know if i find anything. now i know the sort of software im looking for will defo help me in my search. much appreciated Adam.

My new Samsung Galaxy S 4G has, to my understanding 1G ROM for system use, 512MB RAM for apps to run in, and an 8GB SD Card for storage.
I'm not understanding something about the setup though. The main question is I go to Task Manager, then RAM, and I usually am using about 250mb -- out of 323MB. 323mb?? Where the hell is the rest of my RAM?
Also when I install an app that can't install to the SD card for whatever reason, where the hell is it going? into my 512RAM? Into my ROM? When I click the Storage Tab, it says Internal Phone Storage 452MB/514MB. External SD Card 1.56GB/7.39GB.
So I'm assuming the ROM has a hidden section for the system, and leaves 514MB for phone apps.
I guess I'm mainly wondering why I only have 323MB to run things in. I have been having problems with it running slow, or randomly rebooting the main interface (then it re-reads the SD cards which takes a minute). This is with just a few apps open; say, Doubletwist playing a podcast and Navigator guiding me somewhere.
I did update to 2.3.6 when that came out and it actually made my phone quite a bit zippier. I've rooted, and I use Titanium Backup to get rid of a bunch of junk that Tmobile put on there. But there's still things running that I don't want taking RAM, but don't want to get rid of. QIK for example likes to have a service running, as does facebook. I like to use Qik sometimes facebook on occasion, and I just want to start the app those times, not have it running all the time. Telenav GPS has a service running all the time too. I'd like to use that app sometimes, but don't want it in my RAM until that time -- why the service? Oh and in Services (through Settings->Applications->Running Services it says at the bottom RAM 165MB used 101MB free. What RAM is this referring to anyway?
Please someone help me understand how RAM works on this thing. I'm totally new to Android, just came over from using an iphone for years so this is all new.
The main reason you see only 323MB of RAM is that the rest is dedicated to memory-mapped devices link the video card. That lovely screen needs backing memory.

TY for the answer i been wondering
I know I've seen a thread about this, but not in the last 50 posts or so.
Question: does anyone foresee ever being able to expand our storage? Even with a border line dirty hardware hack?
I had built in storage on my nexus s 4G, and it was a pain *sometimes*
But, I've had my One S for about 2 weeks, and already have to delete stuff on a regular basis.
This is mostly because I'm a flash whore, and sense nandroids are usually over 1GB. I'm running MIUI right now, but will probably switch back, as I really miss the cool camera features.
But basically, with a few nandroids, some pictures, and some podcasts, my card will be full.
Anyone have any non-obvious ideas? (If that's a real word).
Obvious ideas would be, delete stuff, use SDMaid to clear out unneeded crap, don't take pictures, etc.
Someone please give me hope
Nothing you can do about it except the just the usual stuff
1) Sync all your photos and backups with dropbox. Can be scheduled automatically.
2) Sync your whole music library with google play.
You can just delete all your music, photos and backup yet still have access to them anytime you want. I am not sure about nandroid. Do you really need more than one?
I was just about to make this thread lol. Surely there must be a way to adjust the partitioning somehow. Like I've got 1.7 GB free on /data which I don't really plan on using much of, so I could move 1.5 GB from there onto the /sdcard partition. Similarly can also move a chunk of the /system partition since that has 1.35 GB free...could probably move a gig from there too and that's an instant 2.5 GB extra space!
I know people have succeeded in repartitioning on certain other phones, so there must be a way on here too. I hope someone can figure it out. F**k cloud storage.

Not everyone has unlimited data plans, cloud syncing will destroy data allowances and eat the battery. And I like my music library on my device, what happens if I want to listen to music while on a train and have no signal? etc etc... an extra few gigs would be a lot more helpful than moving everything to space.
Then hook up your device via usb when you are home or sync with wifi instead..
I have all my nandroids and titanium backups on dropbox to save space on my phone.
I am on a data cap too. But theres nothing I can do about it. I just don't have space on my phone. This way its at least always with me wherever I go. And I just add/delete the recent stuff to my phone manually. Thats often not more than 500mb of songs.
The rest I just sync at home when I am on wifi. I don't need backups or photos on my phone at all. So if I need space I can delete them without worries. Its safely stored with dropbox.
Titanium and Nandroid backups aren't an issue. I haven't got any of those and when I do I can easily move those off. But what I want with me locally is my music and picture library. No way am I putting that on the cloud. I've just come from a 32 gig SD card with about 6000 songs, and I had about 16 gb free space still left lol. I had to convert all songs from 64kbit ogg to 40kbit HE-AACv2 just to get it to fit. And now with less than 300 mb free space I am deleting some songs.
But my point is, there are several gigs just wasted in the other partitions. It would be nice to make those user accessible.
So I hope someone can make a ROM/mod that readjusts the partition sizes when flashing.
True, but that's the sacrifice you make when buying a phone with a fixed storage of just 16 gb. But other then moving stuff to dropbox and removing them from your phone I don't think there are many options.. At least not until usb-host comes to our phones You could also buy an mp3 player for music (and a camera for pictures and a handheld console for gaming xD )

Lol then I might as well go back to my Nokia 3210 for a phone
I have no doubts that we will be able to repartition the storage in the near future.
But to be honest, even if we do we would only get like maybe 4GB more. Does this really make that much of a difference to you?
I mean compared to a 32GB microSD card this is pretty much no difference.
So far, I still have about 7GB free, so I am pretty fine how it is righ now.

Well, after compressing my music (the bulk of my SD card) to 32kbit, 4GB can fit another ~3500 songs. So it's a huge difference! With the 32 GB card I had plenty of empty space to dump movies, but every MB helps

Wow doesn't that music sound like garbage at such a low bit rate ? The only music I keep on my phone is .FLACs @ 980-1200kbs, or .mp3s @320kbs.

Well... the obvious problem is that the One S does not supply power through the micro USB port so anything you plug in will have to get power from somewhere else. Hence, regardless whether it works or not it would not be particularly useful as you need an additional power source for the USB device, like a car charger or a wall charger, which basically throws mobility out the window. Chances are that if you're near an additional power source, i.e. a wall charger, you're also near a computer so there's no point to use a USB memory stick when you have a few hundred gigs available on the HDD of your computer...
On a similar theme I've installed Sygic navigation software. Once you install the app you then download a country map (UK in my case). Map is about 350mb and also installs approx another 400mb which I think is a one off and will be part of the program. This is all installed to sdcard partition and no choice is given (that I noticed). As I've plenty of room on data partition I wondered if there is a way to move/force sygic folder there? I'm guessing as a minimum root would be required. I'm not pushed for space on sdcard but every mb counts on the One S
As I wrote in another thread, I think the best (but costly and slightly cumbersome) way for us to live with only 9.xxGB without using GBs of data per months will be to rely on portable wifi storage. Lookup for Kingston Wi-Drive and Seagate Satellite Wireless drives.
I've had to make hard choices about what I'm keeping on my phone. I also had a 32GB microSD with tons of music, movies, videos, pics, apps, backups, CoPilot Live maps...
No way it's fitting now. I've had to decide what really *needs* to be on my phone and ax the rest. Would love to see a hardware mod for replacing the stock memory flash with a 32GB microSD... just sayin.
